- I was so very upset to hear this sad news last night. Thouhts are with the family. As others have said I know it dont make it any easier but some never know what happen to h poor dogs. Lots of lost dogs go to the railway line for dead rabbit etc. How kind of all who helped in the search for dear Murphy. Do anyone know how far from home he was found? God bless you dear Murphy and family and helpers x

I was there from 9-11pm .. I felt so sure you would be able to pick him up and half expected to see that he was home when I got in... Which railway line was he found on?? Again I'm so sorry that hes not home safely... You need to look after yourselves now and good luck with the new baby..

- I've added 'Possible sighting Tredegar' for anyone wanting posters to put up in that area. I'll also send alerts to NP22.

- A dog looking like Murphy has been spotted in Tredegar - Geraint (husband) has gone to look but if anyone is in the area - pls pls keep all eyes out.

- emma, speaking via email to sarah earlier she said you would put the details and picture of the dog lost in swansea on doglost. sarah has done a lot to find this dog and i have been having a little scout around too. i dont have a car now so it limits me. could really do with helpers in swansea to organise a search during both the day and evening. if the details go on doglost helpers will know through alerts and perhaps we can all get together. hope you get results with your search soon.
- 2013-02-25 09:34 beardies in need
- As I said last week after searching for missing beardies and now other breeds for many years if they are lost in the kind of area Murphy is they do tend to go to farms, talk to all farmers some are very good others not so good. Again look to see where a dog could be sleeping, if local grain farm look for grain in droppings, also rabbit bones and fur. Or this may already have been done by now with all the farms in the area. If you find where he could be then set the humane traps. But again its finding where he could be. Also when they are shut in anywhere they are not like the same dog. But you see the brain click back in after you have them safe. Never go out calling his name though. With the baby on the way I so hope you have some good friends and family to help be out on foot now. Also walking a bitch in season is a help if you know of one. Good luck for today.
- 2013-02-24 20:03 woodpop
- Thanks Nik, Geraint (husband) is writing you an email as I type this. Thanks so much Jayne. We have listenened to the message about 48 times - sounds like a teenager we think. Not sure what that means . . . Might go to the Police Station in Crickhowell tomorrow and see if they can help at all as Vodafone can't give me the number because of Data Protection but the Police could get it. May well be a hoax call tho . . .

- Hopefully they will ring HQ if they dont hear back from you as our number on the poster as well...bumping...will answer phones all evening...

- I just had a voicemail on my mobile whilst I was up a mountain looking for him, and out of reception, saying 'I've seen Murphy - call me back asap on this number' but of course, they don't leave a number and as I was out of reception - it's not come up on my phone. I just called Vodafone and they said they can't retrieve numbers even if they've left a voicemail ! Aaaarrrgh - this is all just so upsetting !
- 2013-02-24 11:22 Goldenfrodo
- Please keep looking out for Murphy.
Stay safe lovely boy until we can help you get back to your family xx - 2013-02-24 02:11 Ian
- Hi Woodpop. Penny was not sighted for exactly 4 weeks after her loss. since then she has appeared sporadically sometimes at intervals of over 3 weeks, and then several days in succession. In her case I believe she was held, mistreated, and then either released or more likely escaped. She seems to have rejected domestication domestication as a survival method and appears to be coping well. Many times as seen on her story I began to believe the worst, only to get news of her presence soon after. Ok, I haven't got her home yet but I've learned through this that there's no need to think the worst. I'd wager Murphy is doing ok, its early days.
- 2013-02-23 23:39 GSPs E&B
- Thank you for clearing that up for me.. I thought I had done something my end... And Emma it's my pleasure, lets hope hes home before the new baby arrives. :)
- 2013-02-23 23:20 Angus
- Sorry I misread your post GSPsEvie &Baylor, we only send alerts out for missing dogs not for sightings unless the dog has moved into a postocde not already covered -If you have an android phone - the android app would let you know there are new posts on the dogs that you are following
- 2013-02-23 22:24 woodpop
- Hi GSPsEvie &Baylor, thank you so much for looking for Murphy - we appreciate it so much. Sorry you didn't get the alert re the Govilon dog - but it was a red herring anyway. Murphy actually disappeared from Cwm Coed-y-Cerrig, in the dip between Gaer Mountain and Brynarw. We have been looking around Llanthony way and up on the Gaer ridge (the side nr Queens Head Pub). Will go up the other side of the Gaer ridge tomorrow. Thanks so much once again, Emma
- 2013-02-23 21:23 GSPs E&B
- No nothing in spam.. I have added DogLost to my contacts, because the first alert I received went to my spam, after adding it the next couple went to my inbox..
- 2013-02-23 20:55 Angus
- You should have had an alert - need to check your trash / spam folder or add site@doglost.co.uk to your list of safe contacts
- 2013-02-23 20:12 GSPs E&B
- Hi, I was just wondering how the alerts work?? Because I have been out looking everyday for Murphy and I can't understand how I didn't get an alert when a dog was spotted in Govilon, seeing as I live in the next village about 2 Miles away.. I wasn't going to mention it but it's been bothering me...??? The people in our area can be really lovely and if there is a stray dog it usually gets plenty of food.. The suggestion of speaking to local farmers was a good one, a dog we were looking for, we found in a lovely bed in a a warn barn... So keep thinking the best and picture Murphy in a lovely warm straw bed waiting to be found....
- 2013-02-23 20:08 Unknown
- dewillimas, not sure what you meant, but one of Murphy's owners was being interviewed about his work and managed to slip in a bit about Murphy at the end.
- 2013-02-23 19:18 Ian
- Hi Woodpop, pleased to say I have some positive news on Penny. With luck you should get a call from a lady called Rae about networking Murphy in a feature tomorrow. Good luck.
- 2013-02-23 12:33 woodpop
- By the way - Sarah has been in touch with me and has said that she is more than happy for someone to list the dog that she found but is going into hospital in the next couple of days so if someone else could start the listing that would be great and she's more than happy to have her email / number listed as the contact. I can send the pictures she took in the back of the car to admin for the listing.
- 2013-02-23 12:30 woodpop
- Hi everyone, thanks Ian - I really hope Penny comes back to you soon - it's just awful this waiting game, how long was it before you got your first sighting and d'you think someone somewhere is feeding / looking after her ? Geraint (my husband) mentioned Murphy on Radio 4 this morning and we've been putting yet more posters up (must have nearly 300 posters up in this area now). We are now on a mission to get Murphy's picture absolutely everywhere in case he's been stolen. We searched all around Llanthony / Capel y Ffin / Hay Bluff yesterday but still no sightings.

- Hi woodpop, chin up, its hard isnt it but my ongoing story beginning 24th November With Penny ID45799 shows that you can go weeks, get despondant think the worst and then bingo you have a sighting. I can see now that Penny has become quite adept at looking after herself, which makes her harder to recover but makes me believe she will survive until that time comes. It's early days, Murphy is most probably coping well and learning how to cope with this time better than you can imagine.
- 2013-02-23 10:29 pixies peeps
- I had also emailed her about having seperate listing and will update the post that Hope rescue kindly put on their facebook page.(Sorry cant help personally but live in sussex.)

- re the dog missing swansea end. dog is still missing, owner has done everything possible but is working on her own. are there any swansea helpers who could help her please?
- 2013-02-23 10:02 Unknown
- One of the owners was being interviewed on R4 this morning so I advised him to steer the conversation around to family life and slip in a mention of Murphy. He just about managed it althhough I'm not sure people would have got his website.

- If the other dog was picked up at Hirwaun thats quite a way from Abergavenny
and very near to Aberdare...and probably over 15miles away from Abergavenny ! - 2013-02-22 10:48 dewilliams42
- sounds like he could be a farm dog and not used to being in a confined space. going to be difficult to find the owner.
- 2013-02-22 10:20 woodpop
- No - I haven't seen any posters. Sarah picked him/her up nr Hirwaun which is quite far up the valleys. I'm pretty sure it's not Murphy - Sarah said he/she tore apart her kitchen and was really boisterous in there, that's absolutely totally unlike Murphy. We rescued him as a stray and he was incredibly timid (still is pretty timid - has a lovely sweet nature), but I've never in all the time seen him tear apart anything. He would much more likely cower in a corner in an unknown situation - even if he was starving, which he wasn't as he'd had a massive meal the day before.
- 2013-02-22 09:42 dewilliams42
- has anyone seen any missing posters around abergavenny for the dog sarah found if not murphy?
- 2013-02-21 13:48 woodpop
- Thank you all so much. It really helps having all this support. Sarah's email is misssarahandrews@aol.com and is fine for anyone to contact her re looking for the dog which may or may not be Murphy. In the meantime, we are continuing looking today - an ad came out in the Abergavenny Chronicle today and next week will be the Hereford Times. If anyone is in this area (NP7) he went missing on Gaer Mountain in the valley between the Gaer and Brynarw at a place called Cwm Coed-y-Cerrig. We have been up on the Llanthony Ridge several times - as that's the direction the bitch on heat was. Any help obviously hugely appreciated as it's really difficult for me to climb the hills/mountains as I'm enormous as about to have a baby in 2 weeks.
- 2013-02-21 08:52 4paws
- Hi woodpop, as beardies have just posted you will always hear the 'horror' stories but just focus on finding Murphy..he is out there somewhere or curled up in front of someones fire! There are a lot of people looking for him as
they go about their daily drives/walks to work etc and a lot of people cross posting to other sites, and checking lost & found sites.Dont give up and keep contacting wardens, pounds etc in both areas..and fingers crossed very soon he will be found xx - 2013-02-21 08:38 beardies in need
- Also if theres a bitch in season just walk her in the search but dont talk, use mobiles by texts so all out searching can contact each other.
- 2013-02-21 08:24 beardies in need
- Its very hard not to but please dont listen to horror stories just go all out to try and get him back, there was a beardie missing in Wales for a month last summer, we did a rota of helpers so search parties were out 24/7 untill we knew where she was then we backed off to keep her where seen then we did food stations etc then set the humane trap which she went in. I would say keep on at the pounds in both areas, keep up the posters, do local paper and radio. A big must is talk to farmers they do tend to go there to barns or outbuildings. Look for signs of where a dog could be sleeping, also poo with perhaps rabbit bones or fur in or grain. Local radio I have found very helpful ask for helpers but stress not to call dogs name he will just run even with the owner, take smelly treats or fish if hes seen put treats etc down and sit on ground or walk the other way. Hope theres sightings very soon x Last edited: 2013-02-21 08:31:04 by beardies in need

- hi woodpop, is there any way of contacting sarah-i live quite close to fairwood airport and would help search if there was someone who could pick me up? but i will have a walk around where i am incase hes come in my direction.
- 2013-02-20 20:44 woodpop
- I've just heard from Sarah, who picked up the dog from Abergavenny and she lives in SA2 7DP where it escaped from - Upper Killay. She says it's near the Airport on Fairwood Common. I'm fairly sure that this dog wasn't Murphy but can't be 100% sure. Sarah has contacted kennels and is putting posters up.
- 2013-02-20 20:38 woodpop
- Thanks 4paws. I'm all over the shop at the moment ! And I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant. I keep hearing horror stories about dogs being stolen by travelling communities to use as bait for fighting dogs . . . have you heard of that sort of thing going on ?
- 2013-02-20 16:40 4paws
- Woodpop..dont give up hope am sure he will be found soon, lots of people are looking for him and many are re-posting details to friends, family & contacts so everything crossed he will be found soon xx
- 2013-02-20 16:29 woodpop
- We've found another black/white fluffy dog in Govilon but it's not Murphy ! This is such an emotional rollercoaster . . .
- 2013-02-20 15:28 woodpop
- Hi 4paws, yes - all wardens / pounds and kennels have been contacted in the area. He may have been spotted in Govilon nr the village shop (NP7) can we alert any helpers in that area ? 3 people are out there looking now, but all help appreciated !
- 2013-02-20 15:16 woodpop
- I know full well that there are some owners who don't look after their dogs - we rescued Murphy 4 yrs ago. However, he is cherished in our household to the point of ridiculousness. He ran after a bitch on heat in the Black Mountains from my parents house, which is in a very rural setting. Absolutely everyone in the area has been notified and we have put about 500 posters up so far. Another dog, similar looking to Murphy, was taken from the roadside in Abergavenny to Swansea on Saturday night after the police said to Sarah (the rescuer) either release the dog back on to the road, or take it home. It then escaped from the Sarah. We don't think it was Murphy as the lady thought it was a bitch, it was taller than Murphy, and pretty thin. Murphy had a huge meal on Friday morning and as you can see from the photos - is not thin. We've just had a call and there is a possibility that he's been sighted nr Govilon - so we're going there now.
- 2013-02-20 15:03 4paws
- cross posted to lost found groups in Wales...no news yet. Has anyone telephoned
pound, wardens etc? - 2013-02-20 14:36 whichypoohs
- I'm going to be controversial here and suggest that there are some dog-owners who really don't look after their dogs quite well enough. You only have to see how many run around off=leash along the prom/cliffs/woods :( owners no-where to be seen?
- 2013-02-20 14:34 whichypoohs
- So is he from Swansea but was lost on a walk on the Beacons?
- 2013-02-20 10:10 beardies in need
- After looking at the pictures of the found dog I would say the head and leg markings are the same. Had Murphy been clipped? as the dog in the car is, and this make beadies look taller. If it was my dog missing I would go all out in the Swansea area asap to find this dog, poster like crazy and go to the pounds.
- 2013-02-20 09:49 dewilliams42
- has anyone from swansea rung greenfields kennels in morriston and llys nini as i think swansea pound uses them for strays. really only one person should ring as they are busy places and they might get annoyed if lots of people ring. i have asked a few people who live or pass through upper killay to keep a look out. any idea where in upper killay this lady lives as the dog may have gone over to fairwood common.
- 2013-02-20 09:18 Lisa

- I live in killay . I also know local vet. Will put posters up . I am unclear whether dog brought back to killay is Murphy but either way dog lost.i walk my dog in area all time. If i get news will post back
- 2013-02-19 19:41 dewilliams42
- thanks for putting me in the picture. so if not murphy someone is missing a dog and will have no idea it is in swansea. has anyone put up posters to say the dog has been found.
- 2013-02-19 19:11 woodpop
- Yes, she picked it up just outside Abergavenny, having swerved to avoid it, unfortunately, Sarah got no help when she contacted the Gwent police about what to do and was told to release it back where she found it (on the dual carriageway), she didn't get any answer on going to the police station either (it was in the evening), so she took the dog back to her house in Swansea from where it escaped early the next morning.
- 2013-02-19 19:00 dewilliams42
- i have asked a friend in upper killay to keep a look out and i will do the same in kittle. did this lady actually pick up this dog in abergavenny area as if not murphy will need to be returned to area found.
- 2013-02-19 18:36 woodpop
- Murphy's shoulders are about knee-height so I think probably smaller than a usual collie cross. He's crossed with a very small terrier. I have 2 x pictures that Sarah who picked up the dog from Abergavenny took of the dog in the back of her car. They're not very conclusive but the legs certainly look longer than Murphy's and the hair much shorter altho similar face. Very happy to forward if anyone wants to give me their email. Also I don't seem to be able to upload another picture of Murphy on this site but if you check http://www.facebook.com/elvis.mcplonkington you can see a couple of pics there altho he's bound to be looking a lot scruffier and less fluffy now !
- 2013-02-19 18:33 GSPs E&B
- We are still out looking in and around Abergavenny, but no one has seen Murphy... Sorry... We will keep looking just in case he's still around here and not in Swansea... Hope hes found and home very soon...
- 2013-02-19 14:44 pixies peeps
- To be honest , whether this dog that has now gone missing in Swansea is Murphy or not it is in an unknown area and needs to be found before anything bad happens to it. Hopefully it will be Murphy as it is very hard to see size from a photo and beardie Xs come in all sizes
- 2013-02-19 14:06 beardies in need
- Thanks 4Paws and Debs D I really do think the same dog as I would like to think not 2 beardies or beardie crosses lost at the same time ! And as no sightings near home I would think was him. poor dog.
- 2013-02-19 12:55 Debs D
- The poster does make a Collie Cross look smaller than it should be, it looks like he's sitting or laying but at a glance looks like he's standing. I think the finder may have thought that too when comparing.
Last edited: 2013-02-19 13:10:42 by Debs D - 2013-02-19 12:50 4paws
- Maybe one of the Swansea helpers could keep in touch with pounds &
take a copy of poster along with them to compare if any similar dogs
are taken in. Would have thought it very unlikely 2 dogs straying that
look very similar in same area in Abergavenny at same time also if this
lady picked up stray in Abergavenny? - 2013-02-19 12:35 beardies in need
- I wouldnt rule this dog out though I really wouldnt. Owner has said she cant get to Swansea to search or poster or check pounds as 2 hours away and have a baby and another on its way. What concern me if it was the dog theres no one there for him.Last edited: 2013-02-19 12:36:21 by beardies in need

- 2013-02-19 10:50 beardies in need
- Have been giving owner advice, as still no sightings all dog pounds should be rang daily and to say look very beardie. This need doing in both areas. And poster both areas like crazy. Ring councils and railways. If farms in areas beardies do tend to head for these and hide in barns and outbuildings. look to see if any signs of a dog sleeping in these areas. Dont call the dogs name. Last edited: 2013-02-19 10:51:20 by beardies in need

- If this was Murphy that was taken to Killay will alerts have to go out to different areas and different dog wardens alerted as it seems to be over 50 miles from the place he originally went missing.

- CALLING ALL SWANSEA BASED PEOPLE. There's a chance that Murphy was picked up by a lady from nr Swansea (Upper Killay) on Saturday but he has escaped from her garden this morning. PLEASE ANYONE IN THE AREA KEEP ALL EYES OUT. We are now absolutely frantic with worry.

- Hello, we have been out all day putting up posters and calling as many people as possible in the area but no luck so far. Murphy's an incredibly friendly dog and wears a collar with a tag with our mobile numbers but we've had no calls. We're desperate to be reunited with him, please post with any news at all. Thank you all so much.
