Hi everyone. Just a quick update. Dinky settled in her crate last night and only had a 15 minute howl and bark at 3am then slept through until 9am. She is such a sweet little girl. We have had her out for a walk (on long lead) up the fields with our Maddie. She has ate her food had water and is now snuggled up to my hubby on the sofa. Have exchanged texts with her owner, and I am sure Marg will come on and update later x
Yes Claire she had her red harness on, that helped us know it was definately her when we were watching from afar xLast edited: 2013-03-22 11:44:35 by BBKM

Dinky has been caught. Woo Woo! Team Dinky and her owners are so relieved and so happy. She walked into the trap at about 10.45pm Thurs night while Trevor and me were sitting watching. We are absolutely thrilled this sweet little girl is now safe. Her owners decided it would be best if Dinky stayed with me tonight as they did not have a crate. She is sound asleep and snug in her crate in my kitchen. Big thank you to all the residents of Pennyfine Road, Streetgate, Sunniside for allowing us to set the trap near there wheelie bins and helping us catch this girl by giving us vital information that was much needed. Special thank you to Keith at the end house who telephoned me on Monday night so we were able to get up there immediately and work out Dinky's route. I am sure marg will update you tomorrow and I will let you know how her first night has been xx
marg
Hi Team Dinky, I will be up their tonight for an hour after work, it is my late night. She must know when I am about cos she makes herself scarce!!! Will bring up her dried food. Feel we are getting near now - she is getting a bit blaise about things. Hope so! Many, many thanks to Team Dinky, can't do this with out you xxxxx

Hi everyone, Team Dinky update for all who are following her page. Dinky first appeared around 9.10pm last night in the same area. The area was quite active last night until 11pmish so she just passed by and went off into the woods. We think this maybe stopped her coming to the food station then. She headed to the Streetgate area or back into the fields. She then appeared again at 1.15am from Pennyfine Road and went straight to food station, she was there a while always being cautious and sometimes looking straight at us, she was approx 20ft away so we got a few more photos...it was freezing cold and frosty so after she had wandered off into the fields I looked for her pawprints to see where she had actually walked from. We are getting to know her routes.
I am heading up there soon just to check food station, then we will be back up there tonight.
Forgot to say when Marny and me watched her for a couple of hours in the fields on Tuesday, she walked right through a field of sheep and she showed no interest in them and they no interest in her, they must be used to her now.
It was nice to meet you Max and thank you for your kind words when we talked. I have sent another photo to Marg xLast edited: 2013-03-21 14:20:27 by BBKM

Nice to meet Marg today.....We watched Dinky for about 2hrs in the fields today, I curled up in the hedge and she came within 10ft of me, when I moved slightly she legged it about 500yrds out the field, straight up to Marny who was standing near her Campervan with Mackeral to put on the BBQ Dinky was within 5 feet of her but she jumped into a garden to bypass her. She is road savvy as she ran across the road when it was safe to. Disappeared through a fence and away, did not see her since then at 4.30pm but not long after her owner Marg had left us,(gutted you had gone Marg, again you missed your girl, she came from where you had been crouched down) Trevor, Marny and me shwere still watching for her, then at 9.51pm she came into view and ate a nice big plate of sausages, fish, gravy bones and Markies that we had put down for her..she also walked right upto Trevors van then wandered off....woo woo lots of progress xLast edited: 2013-03-20 01:06:38 by BBKM

Dinky was seen again tonight at about 9.40pm near the For Sale sign marg. Sorry too late to call or text you now. Trevor was there within 10mins. We followed her pawprints they came off Pennyfine Road, she stopped at a few wheelie bins/bin bags then went under the gate into the fields, turning right. We know where her pawprints stopped but we are to big to get in there. Walked the fields with torches but didn't see her. I am still sitting in car hoping she might come back this way, no sign of her yet. Stay warm and dry Dinky or better still walk to my car please x
marg
Thanks everybody. I will be back out tonight depending on the visibility and weather. Some one has contacted me to say she is worried about her hens, and I am worried about lambing time coming, but I don't think Dinky would take a lamb. There is no agression in Dinky at all. But, what will be, will be. Praying we get her back soon.Marg

Bumped for sighting. Great news and thank you so much for all the help on the ground bazil and trevor x
BBKM
Great news there has been another sighting of Dinky today by Trevor and myself. She came out of the woods after Trevor had been in searching while i spied all exits incase he disturbed her and ran out across the fields, as she has done previously. When Trevor got back to me we were standing chatting deciding our next move when we both saw her on the edge of the woods. Trevor went one way and me the other, hoping if she came across the field we would be able to corner her. Sadly because of the heavy snow falling, we really do think she thought 'stuff this' and went back into the dry warmer woods. I agree with Marg Dinky is a wise girl, only comes out on dry, warmer days and when the sun has been shining a little. Trevor will be back out again later if weather doesnt get much worse. Visibility became near impossible just as we left the area x
marg
Thanks to everyone who has been out searching in this awful weather. I get the feeling Dinky goes to ground in the wet and cold - she is anything but daft. Will go up to Pennyfine Road area after work at 7.30ish tomorrow. feel we will have to wait for someone to ring in with another sighting.Really appreciate all your continued efforts, don't put your lives on hold for Dinky, she could survive up there for months, I will keep walking the area and hoping.
BBKM
Sorry didn't get on here last night to update. Trevor was up there between 7-9pm searching and watching, but no sign of Dinky. I went up 11pm-1am and sat and watched the area where we think she is passing late at night but saw nothing, also had a slow drive around Sunniside/Streetgate area.Marny has been up a few mornings/daytime too looking and watching but she too has not sighted Dinky. I am heading up there soon to have another look about if anyone else is up there looking hope to bump into you. I drive a red Rav4 and will be parked either on Pennyfine Road or Sorella car park. Marg has been up there today and she will probably update later.
Come on Dinky show yourself x
marg
Hi, Was up ther at the end of the street looking into the field - no sighting, she was out and about at 5.45pm on Friday night, but went back into the wood. Where is the feeding station, was I standing in the right place, where the house is up for sale?
BBKM
Hi sorry I have not been able to update for a while, having problems with logging in to doglost through pop ups on the homepage...
Sandymal you can contact any of the numbers above in Dinky's info or on her poster.
I have spent most days and some nights with Marny and Trevor searching areas that Dinky has been sighted at. Last night after marg was told about Dinky being seen regulary on Pennyfine Road late at night, Trevor and I went up about 7pm and had a good search close to this area and also set up a feeding station. I then went back at 11pm to sit quietly to watch and wait, hoping Dinky would come that way and even go to the food. I was there until 1.30am. I did not see Dinky (gutted) but from 11.50pm lots of rabbits hung around or passed by. Dinky may be coming to this area for her supper lol. Marny was up there after 6am searching and checked the food that had not been touched. I have been unable to go up and look for her today.
We are trying to get a trap, will find out Saturday morning if we have one. Also if anyone is available to help on Sunday afternoon that would be great. We will confirm a time and meeting place Saturday evening. I am away most of tomorrow daytime but hoping to maybe get up there again late Saturday night to watch again. Fingers crossed Dinky is home very soon x

So pleased to hear that there have been more sightings of little Dinky, I can't believe how resourceful she's being, bless her. Sounds like she's got a 'patch' now - let me know what I can do to help. Keeping everything crossed that she's reunited with her owner x
marg
Hi, Did leaflet drop of houses facing the fields in Sunniside, loads of calls back, seen evenings between 11pm and 12pm, wouldn't come to person. She is looking well and is lively. Please let me know about search if it happens on Sunday, anm a carer but will try my hardest to be there. Thank you everybody.

Hi Bazil has requested could dinky be bumped up this is her request on her fb page .... thanks

Can someone bump Dinky ID 48996 please? She was sighted at about 11.30am on Tuesday morning. She was in a field near the stables, chasing a rabbit or some animal, she caught it and went back into Beggars/Ravensworth Woods to enjoy her feed. I (Bazil) and Marny spent hours in the woods searching and just sitting quietly watching and hoping to see her, but we didn't. We are trying to organise a search for Sunday afternoon after 2.30pm. Appreciate her bumped please.
marg
Hi All,
Dinky sighted 7 days ago catching rabbits in field behind Hillhead Farm above Sunniside. Clearly able to provide for herself. Thanks to Bazil again for all her sterling work. I have been up ther a few times but no more sightings. She is definatley in the top of those woods, and Ravensworth Wood. Thanks again
marg
Hi All,
Getting new posters out this week coming up, don't know if she is still in the area but will carry on. No sightings of Dinky for 8 days now, don't know where to look next. Sightings are great, but it's catching her that is proving difficult!!! I say "Goodnight Dinky, stay safe" every night when I close my eyes.

Oh Gosh this is so sad get the local radio and newspapers and TV involved, the power of facebook is amazing and postering we just got our dog back through this yesterday, lots of stubborn persistness get a facebook page up and will share it on my rescue site

Hi Bazil, Please convey my thanks to Trevor, in weather like this she will have gone to ground, she did the same in the snow 2 weeks ago. Am going up to put up some posters where people enter Washingwell Woods.
Thanks again to everyone.
BBKM
Sad the strayaid dog is not Dinky...this means she is out there somewhere. Getting lots of posters up will help make more people aware Dinky is missing. If you need help putting them up, let me know. Don't loose hope marg, lots of lost dogs stop being seen for a while, sometimes weeks then appear again. Waiting to hear from Trevor, he might be up there again tonight. We will keep looking x

Hi All, Thank you for still looking. Unfortunatley, the dog at Stray Aid is not Dinky, very like her, alas, not Dinks. Posters will be going up tomorrow and at the weekend in an extended area, don't feel there is any more I can do apart from keep walking in those areas. She hasn't been spotted for over 4 days now, she may have moved on. Admit, I am losing hope of ever catching her. Thanks again to everyone.
BBKM
Hi, good to read that you will go and have a look at the strayaid dog. Fingers crossed.
I have been up to Hedley Hall woods this morning for about 3 hours
searching. Because we are not getting many sightings, we only get one or two a week, it may be she is travelling between the two woods and going to different areas and if there are no posters, no one knows she is a lost dog. I have talked to lots of dog walkers today in Hedley woods, most of them walk there every day and none of them had seen her. Hedely Hall woods are definately more appealing to a Lurcher as there are many large open spaces with plenty of thick wooded areas to hide in and have a full view of everyone and everything. Lakes and river and lots of food, rabbits. I was also not only looking for Dinky but also for her red harness as she may have chewed that off if has hindered her in any way. When out and about please also look for her red harness.

I went to see Carol at Briar Dene Kennels on Ouzlaw Lane at the top of Kibblesworth, she is aware Dinky is missing, she now has my number in her mobile just incase she sees her when out walking the dogs. Come on Dinky please be seen so we can find your girl, stay safe x
marg
Good Morning everyone, have just rang Stray Aid and had her scanned again for a chip, none there. They say it is entirely possible for her to travel that far and also for the newly inserted chip not to have bedded in and have popped out. Will try to get down this week to see her, if she answers to her name that will be good, she is the same age as Dinky. Last sighting was on Sunday at 4pm, we must have walked right past her, we missed her by 5 mins, sleeping in a field before she bolted into the woods. She has been at Stray Aid since Tuesday, yes a lurcher could make it, but it is a bit of a stretch and where is her collar and harness? Will have a look, hope she recognises me, Many many thanks to everybody, I am so grateful to you all.
Rebecca
Morning guys, some of the staff had a good look at the pic of the Strayaid dog n thought it wasn't her as do I but agree it's definitely worth a look. The Centre is extremely busy with cruelty case work today (sorry to be vague but I can't stress how much strain we're under at the moment) but I think I could go along tomorrow. No more pics of her I'm afraid as she was very tricky to have her photo taken I remember, bless her. One of the staff thought that there had been a sighting on Monday? X
Minigirl - Area Co-ordinator, West Yorkshire
Thanks everyone.
I think it is definitely worth checking the found dog on Strayaid just to be 100% sure we can rule her out. I can ring them and request some more photos in the first instance..do we have any other photos of Dinky at all?
Blackhall is only around 20 miles away so would be do-able as basil says. Agree that the strayaid dog will probably need to be viewed in person.
Yes last reported possible sighting was Saturday afternoon.
Thanks again for all the local support- invaluable!
X
BBKM
Thanks for the 'Thank you' marg. Just want to say Trevor has been out again, covering lots of areas tonight for about 4 hours. No sign of Dinky.
I was going to ask where she was originally from, I don't think we should underestimate her...she is a lost dog who will try to get home and in this case her original home. If she has left the Sunniside area, then she could be absolutely anywhere by now.
I keep looking at the strayaid dog and personally think her facial hair colouring is different....it will take either her owner or a member of staff from the RSPCA who has spent months with this poor girl to check if it is or isn't her. I am not sure if owners drive but I am willing to take them to strayaid to view the dog x

Rebecca I think Dinky was last seen on Saturday or Sunday about 4pm in the woods, not 100% on that though x

Hi, thank you to bazil, trevor and marny and everybody who is helping to look for Dinky. I only hope she hasn't forgotten me, she has been away longer than we had her - she was settling in so well. That dog on Stray Aid looks remarkably like her - I will ring them in the morning and ask them to scan her again - Dinky is just newly chipped 3 weeks ago.I am trying not to get my hopes up because she is many miles away from where she was living rough, but it would be wonderful if it was my lil' Dinks. Thanks to everyone again, I am going out tomorrow again.

Has anyone checked out the Strayaid link posted by twinks below
http://www.strayaid.co.uk/view-details.php?id=356 This dog is very much alike and appears to have been found straying in the North East. Definately worth a look if only to discount her.
Maz
Hi been out looking in farm area today but never saw her. A big thank you to everyone searching for her. Please god she comes home. Maz xxx
Rebecca
Hi Kath, I've checked her records and original paperwork and Dinky is her real name from her original home. She came from east of Durham (Blackhall)so I guess that is very long way away from the area that she's been sighted. When is the last sighting of her does anybody know? x
marg
Hi, I'm Dinky's new auntie, are you all aware that Dinky is not our girls original name, she was only just starting to respond to it when she did a runner. would it be at all possible Rebecca, to contact neighbours where she was originally and try to find out her real name? kath

Last night Trevor and me went back up to the farm and woods. I chatted with Hill Head Farmer and he allowed me on his land in my 4 wheel (thank god coz i did get stuck in the mud a bit). I was allowed to sit with my headlights beamed across the field where Dinky had been seen sleeping, while Trevor and a few others went into the woods with torches to try and move Dinky out into the field. We were there a few hours and she did not appear.
Today I went back up and first went to the Ravensworth Estate again to speak to Farmer Snowden. He does not have livestock roaming, but was concerned for Hill Head farm livestock. He also said he would have a chat with the Gamekeeper and hopefully if they see Dinky they can try and catch her not shoot her. He and his wife were very nice and are dog lovers, they have had a rescue Lurcher themselves....
I then went into the woods, and this time went really deep into them, they are massive...I was in there for a few hours but saw nothing of Dinky. I must say where the Trees have been chopped down, there are lots of snug, very dry, warm areas for Dinky to sleep and rest in. I was hoping she may have been visible lying in a nice sunny area today. I wish I had taken a BBQ and sausages. If the weather is good again tomorrow, I plan to do this, just sit nice and quietly with lovely smelly sausages. I talked to Dinky's family last night and they are doing all they can to find their girl. Hope we don't have to wait long. I can't print any posters but if anyone has any i can help to put them up. Thank you to Marny again, she was up there this morning, out on horseback looking for Dinky x

Been out again for the past 4 hrs with Trevor and Marny. We have made a lot more people aware that Dinky is lost and being sighted in this area. Could do with lots of posters up in Sunniside, Streetgate and Lamesly Coach Road area. If she is sighted by someone, they can make that tel call asap.
We have searched a large area of the woods at the back of Hill Head Farm, particularly looking in all areas that could be a cozy den...lots of them but sadly Dinky not in any we looked in. Gamekeeper of Ravensworth Country Estate has been made aware of Dinky and several other farmers in the area and on the Estate. We need more details of all the sightings that we have had, if she was being watched yesterday, someone said this on FB but we need the location, time etc. Also has she still got her red harness on? Please if anyone can give this info can it be posted on doglost please and not just FB. Thank you, hopefully I will be back out again, later to have another look, stay safe Dinky, but be seen x Last edited: 2013-03-04 15:28:20 by BBKM

Thanks Riverlady.
Thanks bazil and Jill.
Have spoken to marg who had Dinky for the few days before she went missing. She is very grateful for all of your help.
She has added her numbers to dinky's doglost poster to make communicating about Dinky's sightings easier.
Is there anywhere a feeding station could be set up? marg isn't very familiar with the areas that Dinky is being sighted in.
thanks again and really hope there is news of her very soon

Yes Jill, she was last sighted further up the road at Hill Head Farm. Great if you can get out to help, lets hope we have her safe before tonight, fingers crossed x

I went up to the area after midnight spent a few hours sitting quietly watching and waiting, but no noise no sightings. Lots of sheep who were very settled. Spoke to the people who live next to Hill Head Farm and they were not aware of Dinky missing. Lovely people who are going to keep a lookout for her. Also chatted with the Milkman, who is a Lurcher owner, he has taken my mobile number and will be keeping a lookout for Dinky, He covers all of Sunniside and Lobley Hill area. I am going to head back up there asap and have a friend who has committed his day to trying to find/catch Dinky. He will get there as soon as he can. I will be in a red Rav 4.

Hi sorry I did not get out to look for Dinky today, I am so worried about her now. I have just looked on google earth to check where Hill Head Farm is. I know this area quite well, just not familiar with names. I will be going out to look anytime I can, because this is really serious. Can I ask if the RSPCA are helping you and the local Dog Warden. If not they should be. I will share this again on FB, hopefully we can get more people to help look for her x Stay safe Dinky xx

We are the owners of Dinky and we would like to thank everyone who has been looking for her. We go out after every sighting but she is always long gone. We are beside ourselves with worry. Be assured we are doing everything we can to find her, we only had her 5 days from the RSPCA, before she bolted from the house, she didn't want to come home, we will keep looking. Thanks again. Marg

Hi minigirl - no the dog on the site is smooth coated but it's difficult to see that Dinky is from her photo here. Thank you for checking.

I have been up to the sighting areas twice on Sunday, morning and late afternoon. We had a good search around. Saw nothing of Dinky. Spoke to a few people and made them aware Dinky is missing, and asked them to report any sightings asap. Think the area between Washingwell/Watergate woods and Hedley Woods/Tanfield should be postered. If anyone has some printed off I will be quite happy to put some up for you. Posters do really help. Saw lots of areas what could be cozy dens, dry and sheltered so do hope Dinky has a den somewhere to keep her warm. Please post any sightings on here asap so I can come and help. Stay safe Dinky x

Going up there Sunday morning to have a look about, does anyone roughly know where the stables are please?

Just found the stables on google earth xLast edited: 2013-02-24 00:47:21 by BBKM

There have been reports that Dinky is still around Washingwell woods and surrounding fields, fairly near the stables.
Have discussed setting up a feeding station in the area to try to encourage Dinky to stay in the area. Also discussed traps.
Dinky is extremely nervous and not familiar with the area.
If you see her please telephone info through to the RSPCA number or text info to 07779004747
Hoping to build up more sightings of this girl so that she can safely caught.
xx
Rebecca

Are you available on the above number for a chat later Rebecca? I'll give you a call if so then we can discuss the best way to report/ map sightings of Dinky.

Rebecca
Aw, hopefuly she'll be caught soon, she's so nervous it might be very difficult as she won't go up to people

My husband and I saw a dog like this at Hedley Woods near Tanfield/ Stanley yesterday afternoon. Our dog tried to playfully chase her but she ran before we got close to her. She was running through a field, for what it's worth she seemed happy. I've just shown my husband the photo, now he thinks about it he reckons the dog yesterday had a red harness on. If we could have got closer we would have, we thought it could have been the nearby farm's dog. Sorry I can't be of more help.

The no. is for RSPCA Felledge Animal Centre where Dinky was recently adopted from (I am the Deputy Manager) - I don't have the owners permission to put their number up I'm afraid but we are in regular contact with them trying to find this gorgeous dog

Rebecca is there a different number to make contact at all?
