What a lovely photo of Amber and her new dad, I'm in tears again now. You can see that she had finally found some love, it's such a shame that she wasn't allowed to go home with him.

A lovely photo of Amber with her new dad. Such a shame she couldn't go home with him :((((

EmmaLouise, can you email Admin info on that other poor dog - we have a few DDB's missing. Worth a try to check. If you mark it for my attention, it will come to me and we can have a look. Many thanks. x EVERYONE, do refresh or reload your browser to see the second image of finder and Amber. This is Amber's new Dad, even though she is now in heaven. x

Just seen the updated extra image............. what a shame little girl.....xx

I've only just seen this and haven't read through all the comments but very strange as a starved similar looking dogue de bordeaux type was brought into Bath cats and dogs home about the same time, has anyone heard about this?
Unknown
I have no faith in the RSPCA either. "Waste of space" Sorry to see this about this ,lovely girl, but at least she is safe now in the arms of Jesys, with her sibling. Night, night sweetheart, sleep tight. RIP+ God Blessx A~~~Candle~~~burns for you cherub. Liz Cox Dont worry there will be people meeting ALL the petsd at the bridge, when the time is right.

I am very sad to read this after such a positive beginning after her rescue. Run free little one and be free of all of the pain that you had to endure. RIP
bellawella
Aww so sad about this girl, she's at peace now in a better place.
Yes your all quite right there was no excuse for them not to of informed the people that found her after all they had rung quite regularly, no excuse for an organisation no matter how busy they are, they did tell them at one stage she would be up for re-homing so no excuse. Well done to all that helped out with this girl you did good. We all wanted to hear a different ending to this.
Thank you for keeping us updated about her Hazebella. RIP AMBER x
Unknown
Dogassist, where I put a another one became involved, this was a second Inspector ok ! I dont think any one is being funny about you asking a question and thankyou for you care. There were many details that could not be divulged being as there was an investigation going on, the reason I kept people up to date when I could was because I knew people had an interest in Amber, but sadly the system no matter how big or busy they are failed her, and due to reasons I'm not willing to currently share, I'm sure you will all hear the outcome and reasons of the failures, unless you were involved with Amber you would not know this...x Again I just thank everyone who has had care and concern for this girl and all I am comforted by as you all are is that this girl...Amber is at peace. xx
jobadger
All it would have taken was for someone from the local branch to have picked up the phone and let her prospective family (or rescue)know.......... I am in no way criticising you dogassist however I personally don't feel that 'large, busy organisation' is an excuse. Many of us work, search, rescue, foster amongst a myriad of other time-consuming responsibilities......it doesn't stop us considering and helping the people who assist and want to rehome lost souls.Last edited: 2013-03-29 20:32:04 by jobadger

The question to the rspca and their reply back is all on twitter's public timeline..you can read it yourself. I was one of the many people campaigning for this dog when it was listed and raising awareness like many others for it. So I haven't suddenly "become involved". As the rspca are responsive on twitter it seemed sensible to ask, publicly, as I am a person also interested in the outcome of this dog, what had happened in this case. I got a reply and have posted it here to be helpful and perhaps provide an answer. I'm sorry if you don't like the answer they gave if it differs to what a local rspca representative last reported, but I'm sure with so many people asking them about this dog they wouldn't have time or resource to keep everyone who'd made contact updated..they are stretched enough dealing with new daily incoming animals. From the answer they provided it seems the poor dog would have been no condition for rehoming once the hip problem was realised. I've no idea who runs the rspca-official twitter account but clearly they'd have had to have checked with the branch handling the dog to get the answer..,tweets don't automatically go to the right person in a UK wide organisation. I had hoped to help you all get an answer..that is all.
Unknown
I am surprised the main RSPCA had to go to the local branch for info, as numerous calls by different people were logged with them that night and the following day. The original RSPCA Inspector that we dealt with was very kind and helpful and kept the finders up to date until another one became involved.
jobadger
I think it would be as well for the RSPCA to remember it is an organisation supported by donations from the public. It forgets itself - tho' it never ceases to remind us thro' its television adverts and envelope requests thro' the door. I hope my girl never finds herself in their hands.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
I have to wonder why people are getting different answers to the same question? It is not what I have been advised either. Very sad state of affairs. At least so many people have shown concern over this precious girl. x
Unknown
very well put jobadger x
Unknown
There are some details we could not share due to RSPCA investigation that is on going, however the details that have been asked on twitter, the replies are different to what we have. x
jobadger
I cannot condone the way actions were taken - large organisation or not. Why did it take an enquiry from their 'superiors' (for want of a better word) to gain any information regarding Amber and her euthanasia? This is happening all the time with the RSPCA - they seem to consider that questions shouldn't be asked and why should their actions be queried........... I dread to think how many times this kind of thing has happened where small people have played God.
dogassist
Please don't forget the RSPCA is a huge organisation ..we asked the rspca_official account on twitter to see if they could find out what happened as so many people were following the story of this dog and were dismayed to hear the end result. They did this overnight, presumably asking the more local rspca branch for information, and came back to us today via twitter...so it was not the local rspca branch we went to for information.
dogassist
We asked the RSPCA yesterday to check why this dog had to be euthanised. they've responded, very kindly, today:" The dog was seen by a vet 3x, x-rayed, and examined further under anaesthetic. A hip problem was present which was expected t get much worse as she put on weight after the neglect she suffered"
Unknown
oh and very nice the RSPCA would now like to discuss and give more info (that dif to what they had), to some one else ! x

p.s that is no way sarcastic against you Dogassist, that is my anger towards RSPCA) xLast edited: 2013-03-28 17:55:21

dont get me wrong in all this my first thoughts are to Amber totally. I would not want her in any pain at all and neither would any one else. If it really was a case of it tooo much, then you have to do the right thing. But you also have to do the right thing with the ones who have kept in contact from the beginning. You have to remember THEY have been told as the days. weeks have gone buy of the progress, they were even phoned to say she could be adopted, then the next all changed could be a month and well you know the rest of the story. x

The very sad thing is that it wouldn't have taken money to save this girl - just someone to listen, someone to consider the circumstances and someone to say 'Yes - she can go home with you - that is the best thing for her.....'
Sadly no-one did.............

This is awful news.... Poor girl, let down in the end by the RSPCA - who should be saving animals. I gave up years ago donating to them, and the recent court case that they spent 300k to prosecute a hunt was shameful. Think how many animals could be saved with that, including this poor sweetheart. Shame on them. Run over the Bridge lovely girl and believe there is love in this world... x
DogLostClaire Gresty - Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - North West
How very very sad, RIP sweet angel xxxxx
SH
This makes me so very sad, when the beautiful girl had already been through living with such lo lifes only to be rescued but then the RSPCA put her to sleep when there was a wonderful person wanting to look after her. Surely there must be something that can be done about this. Run free now, there will be many dogs & people over the bridge who will give you the love you deserved xxx
SaffySP
I'm so disgusted and upset I really don't know what to say. I can't stop thinking about this poor dog.
galaxy
They seem to do this alot these days...mmmmm does it 'look better' for them in court if they are prosecuting I wonder? Happens alot with horses too who don't look at deaths door...I haven't given them a penny for years.
it will be interesting to see if pictures of this dog will be used in a campaign for funds, 'with sadly unable to save her'... comments!
Nickydog
What can I say that has not been said already? Who is asking the questions? This must be made a public issue.
R.I.P princess, you will know we all loved you and will fight for dogs like you.
June
I cringe when I hear a very needy dog is in the 'care' of RSPCA.. It appears they only care when the TV cameras are around. I am not alone in this opinion.. I have a friend who worked in their office..she had to leave as she couldn't bear to see what their money was spent on. I have persuaded many not to give to them but to smaller charities who do the real work.. RSPCA should be verbally 'bashed' and exposed. Poor Amber I'm so sorry and upset about what happened to you and your dear brother.
mallyboo
What the hell is going on at the RSPCA? Everytime I see any animals that have been rescued by them lately it seems they are pts, on the vets advice. My advice change the vet and PDQ too. Poor baby run free now, at least someone was willing to love you. Shame they were not given the chance xxxx
Liz Cox
Thank you Shereen, that was wonderful, now I know, caused me more tears!! I want to be a rescuer!
collieowner
I hope the truth comes out about why the RSPCA put this poor dog to sleep when there was a perfect home available.I for one will not give any more money to the RSPCA until they explain in the press the reason for this terrible decision. RIP Amber. xxx
Tigermouse
I'm in tears reading this - poor poor Amber, you never asked for any of this. Bad enough that you were treated so cruelly in the first place but to be let down by people from a so-called 'caring' organisation is just doubly cruel. You had a new forever home waiting for you with people who would love and care for you so why weren't you allowed to go? Who the hell made this decision to end your life, and why?? For many reasons I have nothing but contempt for the RSPCA, they are far from the caring organisation they profess to be.

RIP sweet Amber, run free at Rainbow Bridge with your brother and know that someone did love you xx
Jotyanne
I am so saddened by this, this girl had a family who were willing to rehome and care for her and once again the RSPCA have struck - they can call themselves an animal loving charity, what a farce! Time to call in the National press and expose them!

Just devastated to read this and very confused as to why this course of action was decided upon?? At least dear Amber is at the bridge safe and warm. I don't want to turn this into an RSPCA bashing session but I stopped donating years ago and had to ring them 4 weeks ago about some desperate horses. It took them 3 weeks to go out....they did nothing. If kind souls had offered Amber a loving home with all the medical care she needed then surely then for the powers that be this was a no brainer....Amber was cared for ....Desperately sad...God Bless darling Amber xxx
hoolibelle
Like everyone I am shocked and saddened regarding the outcome for poor Amber. Does anyone know the exact circumstances as to why she was put to sleep? I have had similar experiences with the RSPCA whereby they have been negligent and totaly uncaring. It is about time they answered the growing number of complaints re their poor practice. RIP Amber.
Shereen
Liz Cox....this may answer your question regarding the rescue dogs who go to RB.xxx

Why are the RSPCA so quick to put animals to sleep. This lovely girl had someone willing to rehome her and care for her, isn't that what the charity is supposed to be about? So sorry Amber that part of society has let you down once again. RIP sweetheart - run happy and free over the Bridge xxx
Liz Cox
Having read this post this morning, I am just so angry, and I feel so sick. Not being able to get rid of these feelings, I sat and read the Rainbow Bridge poem again! I have loads of animals waiting for me there, but then I had a horrible thought - What about these poor animals who have no-one to wait for. I just hope I can gather up as many as possible and take them with me as well. The Bridge has given me a lot of comfort over the years, and if anyone loses one of their precious pets I always tell them about it. I hope I can find this poor girl when I go there. XXX
jobadger
Failed yet again by a 'charitable' Society with only its own interests in mind. Who was responsible for the decision? Who was responsible for not letting the prospective adopters know of this decision........ afew questions yet again RSPCA...... Rest in Peace gorgeous girl - you're safe and secure now. Sleep tight - sweet dreams.......xx
SuzeeBee
Grrr --- am so angry about this, the RSPCA are very willing to put out TV programs like Animals 24/7 saying that they are there for any animals in need of help, but in reality this doesn't happen. I have no faith in them at all and would never give them my hard earned money. I hope at least there is a prosecution resulting from this. Poor dear Amber such a shame that you were not allowed the love of good people and the joy of a proper home. Run free sweet girl never to be hurt again xx.
DogLostMillypod (Chris) - Administrative Volunteer
I just hope the charity are as quick to prosecute the scum bags that caused this suffering of these two dogs in the first place.
Run free at Rainbow Bridge Amber with your brother :(

Such a sad and unnecessary outcome - I am so very sorry. Am I to understand that the male dog was also pts? Run free at the bridge with your brother, dear Amber. No-one can hurt you now xxxx

You know it a great comfort to read what other caring people put. I like you take every dog that comes our way good or bad with utter love and compassion as if it was our own that this was happening to. (ob not that we would have dogs in this state, but hope you know what I mean? ) I am just comforted that the sweet Amber is at peace and no more suffering and already playing with her brother who was waiting for her. This is not the place, but I assure you there is a lot more to this and it will come out and be noticed, not just for Amber but for all the other dogs/animals suffering this fate. god bless Amber sleep tight xxLast edited: 2013-03-27 00:34:43

You are right Debbie, the finders and helpers did not let her down. These were Hazebella's sad words that I copied over in my last post. These caring people trusted the Charity to take care of her, whilst they waited to rehome her. Sadly, it was not to be. But, as has been said, they saved her from a bad life at that time and she was then loved; that will stay with her in heaven. I fact, I wouldn't mind betting she is with her new family now, just from above. God bless you sweet Amber, always. x
debbie
RIP sweet girl, no one let her down kimmybear except the ones that thought to pts , I am so angry I can't describe grrrr.
You did all you could and more but some people aren't as dedicated to animals as others, and then that's where they shouldn't be in the job their in comes to mind. I am so sorry for you xxxx
Shereen
We were so hopeful for this poor baby so heartbreaking for a sweet girl who had an offer of a loving home...its like she was let down unnecessarily again But not by those who rescued and advised...but by those who seem to do it over and over again!...R.I.P Amber.xxx
MAZ
Why wasn't she allowed to be re-homed??? This is a heart-breaking case - poor dog ... RIP
mathers22
What a sad end to what everyone thought would be a second chance in a new home. Absolutely gutted this sort of ending tends to make me think that they are better away from "so called human beings" where they can't be hurt again xx
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
This is what has been posted on DogLost Herts FB. Very sad indeed.
"Words can't say how I feel at the devastating call I had today from my friend. You know that they have followed this girl from the start and abided by rules. They pleaded to give this girl a home and to give her what she needed medication etc so that she was not in a lonely kennel somewhere; they were told no! Every week have called, they called last week no replies...They have just called and been told she has been put to sleep last week! Where was the respect, the simple call to let them know. I feel I have personally let this dog down and my friends, you take them to get help, to get rescued you tell them do it by the books.............. she was not rescued in end was she?! (and I do know reasons as well why she put down). this is more about the lack of compassion.........totally devastated!"
DogLostMillypod (Chris) - Administrative Volunteer
Hi Hazebella, as Claire says thank you for letting us all know. So very sad at least she knew love and kindness in her final weeks.
Run free at Rainbow Bridge lovely girl:(

Hi Hazebella, thank you for letting us know this heartbreaking news. This is so awful for this poor dog. The person/s responsible should be "Dished out the same medicine". I feel like locking them up, and throwing the key away. So pleased the RSPCA is investigating, and hope it`s a good result for the dog, and not some lame excuse. Sending this girl absent healing, and gentle pats for her full recovery, and hope she finds loving new owners who will "Spoil her rotten". As for the previous/present owners, hope you never find peace.

Bless you sweetheart you didn't deserve to be treated so badly. Hope and pray that you make a full recovery and find a kind and loving home.

So so sad and sickening to see any dog that has been treated in this way. just wanted to say a big thankyou to Kimmybear helping me out as had comp problems and been bombarding her with text messages. It took us till 3 am to get this baby sorted. she is chipped but sold on and evidence of over breeding. approx 6 years old. the girl is known to rspca and investigation now being done and a male there will hopefully be removed as well. I have had lots of people saying they will help ...so wonderful also I contacted DDB rescue and they have been marvellous and stepped forward with rescue space. also lovely friends who found her also offered home. the one thing is she will now be safe and have a better future ahead. xx
