Oh no, how sad. I'll never forget that day we went looking for her Clare. My husband was none too pleased about his car coming home looking like it had been rallying. He couldn't get the dirt off it for days, but it was so worth it, otherwise we might never have found out about Donna living on the landfill site. Run free at the bridge darling Donna, and thank you to Ray for bringing her in from the cold and showing her the love she so deserved xx

Sadly I have to tell any the followers of the lovely Donna (Miss ex Calvert Landfill) that in this past month she was PTS due to an on-going serious illness. It was thought that she might have been suffering from leukaemia and was never going to recover. I am sure you will all join me in thanking Ray D for trapping and eventually she was found a loving home where she enjoyed the trappings of a lovely life, better food and constant love and respect shown to her and not forgetting a lovely sofa to sit on. RIP Donna x
Ellie
What a wonderful ending to what started out to be a sad story. I was also hoping that Ray would keep the lovely Donna as she clearly adores him. Well done to all concerned in what was quite an ongoing saga and to the wonderful Ray who has clearly worked so hard to catch her and win her over. I read Rays updates of Donna on the Holly Trees site and what an amazing story, it brought me to tears. Ray you are a star! Love to that lovely girl Donna and please give her a cuddle from me XXXXX

What a fantastic ending, so glad she is obviously with someone she adores & who adores her.

So glad that Donna has a safe, comfortable home with the wonderful Ray. Ray caught a feral lurcher who had been living rough for about a year. After 3 months I couldn't catch her though she would even take food from my hand. Ray came along with his young daughter, Emma. On the second attempt they caught her. I named her Emma after Ray's daughter and she is living happily with me and my other dogs - and runs free and always comes back. Ray rocks!

Wonderful, wonderful news. Donna - Thank you for adopting Ray!! Couldn't be better! Have a long and very happy life gorgeous!!!xx

Wonderful news. So pleased she has found her forever home with Ray. He does a fantastic job with animals. I had to phone once, as he is not too far from where I live, and found a very helpful, and friendly voice on the other end, and was given some very good advice for somethning. Stay safe now girlie:-)xxx
Steph
What wonderful news! I am so pleased that she is staying with Ray, bless her. Thank you all so much for your help and support with her and to Ray for doing a fantastic job. I sometimes think about what could have happened to her if I hadn't found this fantastic site and great community - her life could have been so very different. Xxx

Donna obviously knew what she was doing when she allowed Ray to catch her!

If you google Holly Trees Ray Dedicoat you can read his March newsletter and you will see how he trapped Donna and in addition also other animals and wildlife that he helps. Last edited: 2013-06-13 19:39:36 by ClaireC

I was praying that Ray would keep Donna as she knows him so well now. A new home might have been a bit much for her considering she was 'in love' with her saviour. God bless you Donna. xxx

Hi All, just to let you know that Donna has now officially adopted Ray as her new dad as she decided that his sofa is so much better than anything else she has ever known! A happy ending for ex-Miss Landfill 2013. xx
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
I've been wondering about her too - really hope she gets a forever home soon where she'll be spoiled rotten x
Timmy's Mummy
Thanks Claire xx
ClaireC
Hi Timmy's Mummy, I don't think she has. Ray telephoned me a little while ago and she has had numerous tests done at the vets to see why she wasn't gaining weight then. Nothing came back and is now starting to gain weight. He said he wouldn't let her go anywhere until he is completely happy with her physical state. If I hear anything more I will post on here.xLast edited: 2013-06-12 18:11:17 by ClaireC
Timmy's Mummy
I have been wondering if Donna has found a forever home yet?
Ellie
Ah Bless her! She'll definitely have to go to someone with a great big comfy settee!
Algernon TrustLisaP
Glad to hear she is doing well :)
ClaireC
Hi All, quick update from Ray as he phoned me today on a personal matter, but Donna is doing really well. Only now beginning to put some weight on at long last after numerous tests at the vet and all have come back as normal. She is a great escape artist and always heads for settee in the Staff lounge! She certainly knows where she is comfy and best off! Wonderful news. xx
Ellie
So pleased that Donna is doing well. I would have had her myself but I don't think that my three JRT's would have been very happy about it. I do so hope that this lovely dog finds a very good home, she so deserves it. I went on to Rays site to have a sneaky peek and it's absolutely amazing. Reading about the wonderful work that Ray and his wife does brought me to tears yet again! Where animals are concerned it doesn't take too much to set me off! His site is well worth a look and I will most definitely be making a donation and buying some Xmas cards early!!! Well done to you Ray.You are a STAR!!
Shereen
Steph,Donna is approx 7-8 years old
Steph
Thank you Barney and Ozzies Mum and Merlinsmum. I still think of my last GSD Rommel who we lost 10 years ago, he'd suffered with epilepsy during his ten year life span, but thankfully we managed to control it for a few years so he had a great life. You can never replace them, but you can always love again.

My son had mentioned "Donna" to me just before Xmas, I assumed that she was a local farm dog but wish I had reported her sooner. Glad she is safe and well now , I'm sure she will make someone a lovely pet. Does anyone have any idea of her age, cos she looked like an older lady in her photo?
Merlinsmum
So, so, very sorry to here about your beloved Ruby, nestling now in angel wings. I am in awe of your dedication and capacity for love. I am not the owner of the Merlin that is missing, thankfully, my gorgeous boy magic Merlin is here with me safe and sound in S. Yorkshire x x x
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
My hubbie and I rode through Calvert on our motorbike this afternoon. Couldn't help thinking about all those months poor "Donna" was living on the landfill site in the freezing cold weather. Thanks to you posting your siting on here Steph, she is now safe and warm. Hope she finds her forever home soon xx
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
I haven't logged on to "Donna's" page for a while, so have only just read about your sad news Steph. I am so very sorry to hear about Ruby. I am only just starting to get over losing Ozzie, my rottie boy, just over a year ago, so I know just how you must be feeling right now. Sending you and your Barney a big hug from me and mine xxxx.
Steph
Hope no one minds but I've just removed my phone number from the above info as I'm x directory x
Steph
I know Claire, I have already been looking at the rescue sites! Won't get another though while we have Barney, he isn't good with other dogs but had a lovely relationship with Ruby, there was never a cross word between them. X
ClaireC
We've all been there and say "never again" and then somewhere along life's way another dog will tug at your heart and look at you and the eyes will say "can I come and live with you please?" and we open the door and let them in! xx Last edited: 2013-04-07 20:26:19 by ClaireC
Steph
So pleased that Donna is doing well and ready for rehoming, such wonderful news and I'm so glad that I reported her on this wonderful site with all you caring people.

For info, both my Ruby and her mate Barney (who is still with us) are both rescue dogs, but not from here. Ruby came from Chiltern Dog Rescue Society, through my friend who's family is involved with the business. She was found somewhere in Wales, and had been rehomed briefly once before we got her at about 9 months old. She was the nicest, sweetest natured dog and was such a well behaved girl right to the end. Barney came from Longwick RSPCA about 6 weeks after we got Ruby, he was about 6 months and had been found wandering by the motorway. We will always rescue in the future, it has been so rewarding despite the inevitable sadness at the end.
mathers22
Thanks Claire. I also hope this lovely girl soon gets a loving home xx
ClaireC
Hi Mathers Ruby was a rescue dog I believe but I don't think from D.lost was the impression I got. I'm sure if Steph come back on she will clarify. x
ClaireC
That is really great news. Well done that man! My hope for Donna is that she will find her extra special forever loving home. Good luck dear girl and stay safe xxx

How wonderful that the lovely Donna is so much better.hope she so finds her forever home. Please keep us informed.

So very sorry to read your very sad news Steph. We all know what it is like to lose our much loved animals and at the time it is like the end of the world. We all have our happy memories and nobody can take those from us. RIP dear RubyxxxLast edited: 2013-04-04 10:07:54 by Ellie

Oh Steph I am so very sorry to read your devastating news. As you have said that Ruby returned to you so much love and affection that you gave her through your kindness of giving her a home. Through your tears the happy memories will shine through strong. All our dogs, when its time for them to go, leave a pawprint of happiness in our hearts. Now Ruby is free from pain and at rest. Give Barney lots of hugs. xxLast edited: 2013-04-05 19:40:36 by ClaireC

Im so sorry Steph xxx
Steph
Since I last posted I have lost my lovely Ruby to Hemangiosarcoma, spleen cancer. She suddenly became very poorly on Monday evening, we took her to the emergency vet who despite giving excellent care and treatment was unable to save her. Ruby died from internal bleeding due to rupturing of a tumour. We are devastated and my other dog, Barney is lost without his soulmate. I would urge anyone to rehome a rescue dog, for despite the sadness at the end of their lives, they give endless joy. At the moment I feel as though I could never go through this again, but I know I will always have a dog in my life. X
ClaireC
Hi Steph, I'm sure once there is more news of this girl's progress Doglost will let us all know especially if she is to be rehomed at some stage.xx
Steph
Thanks Claire. I expect there will also be some work to be done with her too, as in building up her confidence etc. It can take a while. I know when we rescued our Ruby, there was a beautiful black female GSD in the rescue centre who had been running wild for a while. She was almost panic stricken by human presence and the staff worked with her for a long time, before they were happy to re home her with very experienced GSD owners. X
ClaireC
As far as I am aware she is doing OK and has calmed down. I would think that any dog would have reacted in that way especially as they have been a stray for so long and always trying to safeguard their food supply such as it was! I wouldn't think to worry yourselves re rehoming her at this stage. I'm sure she still has to be "built" up a little more so i don't think there is a rush at this time. xx
Steph
Just wondering if there is any more news on how she's getting on? Has there been any sign of her being vicious at all? I'm hoping that this was just down to her being lost and scared.
Carol
I do hope this dear dog finds a loving home, please keep us updated as cant stop thinking about her. Poor love am worried she may go back to the travellers :-(
Ellie
Must have been something you said Claire:) lol
ClaireC
No idea why I have been pinked out!
Angel
Just because this dog is believed to have been abandoned by travellers, doesn’t mean they were the rightful/original owners, as is too often the case. Whatever happens next, let’s hope she gets lots of love which she obviously has been missing for some time. x
Ellie
I'm sure you're right Claire. I just suddenly had a horrible thought that those nasties would come back and try to claim her.I'm sure that they are the last people that this poor dog would want to see!

Ellie
I'm not so sure that tracing her owners would be such a good idea C.J. After all they were believed to have been 'travellers', who apparently scarpered and left her to fend for herself. To add to that they clearly haven't put a lot of time or effort into finding her and getting her back, so in my opinion I think we had best forget about them !Last edited: 2013-03-27 16:34:46 by Ellie

Great outcome for this girl thanks to the experience of Ray. What would be really great is if we could find a match and trace her owners.

Pass me the tissues! What fabulous news!! I have been following this story for several weeks now. Well done to Ray & Claire for all your hard work and to Steph for posting it on here in the first place as well as everybody else who had been involved. I agree with some of the other comments, we are like one big soppy dog loving family on here.....it is so nice to know that you are all there. Look forward to hearing further news of this poor girl and hope she gets herself a warm and loving forever home very soon xx WELL DONE ONCE AGAIN EVERYBODY xx
mathers22
I would be grumpy if I was lost, cold and starving hungry. Agree people see a GSD and automatically think it is viscious xx
Steph
She looks gorgeous, lovely dark eyes and muzzle. Older than I initially thought though. Bless her. My son was told by the other guys on the landfill not to approach her as she was vicious. Trouble is people often assume GSDs are vicious because they are large dogs and are used by the police and security services. She was obviously terrified though. Hope she soon finds a permanent home. I do believe that she has been named Donna. She seems to have landed on her paws and although not shown on here there is a lovely photo of her snoozing on a settee! Bless x

Wonderful to see this lovely girl & know that things will only get better for her now :)
LindaT
This lady is beautiful, she does look very thin and her eyes are a bit wary but she looks very calm and I hope that she will soon be in a Forever Home if her previous home isn`t located.... someone is going to be very lucky indeed to have her in their life:-) Just goes to show what patience and teamwork can do, well done, I hope Woody and Teddy are soon in the warm and safe too.
islandgirl
Have to say she does look a bit like
Woody.
islandgirl
Perhaps she seemed agressive at the landfill because she was hungry, cold and weak. They were obviously as kind as they could be at the landfill but any dog will seem aggressive if its been living rough for some time - to someone it doesnt really know.
mathers22
Bless her she's so thin what a good thing she was rescued when she was it could have been a different story. I bet she comes on in leaps and bounds now she's got warmth and love. Well done xx

Poor baby - so glad she's inside now - a little world weary.....an older lady perhaps..? x

Ah! She looks gorgeous although thin. She seems quite docile too. I was concerned that she might have been a bit 'wild' and aggressive but there doesn't seem any signs of that in the photo. Bless her, she's probably so happy to be in the warm with some nice food in her tummy!
Lynne
Awww, you can see how thin she is from the back. Fantastic that she's fed and warm now though :-)
Shereen
Photos added of this lovely girl.....Ive added the second picture to show the markings on her back.
Ellie
Has Miss Landfill 2013 got a propper name yet? I think that perhaps Ray should name her. Something apropriate and pretty! I think she deserves it!
ClaireC
Hi B & O Mum, don't mind but need a definite sighting or known whereabouts of Woody and of course, if they need an extra pair of hands would be delighted to go out and help and if I've got a car back. I think they've gone to Japan and having a long holiday to get the part!!!!
DogLostAngus
we have moved this record back to found as she has now been captured, - she may still have an owner out there
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Any more cross country rallying planned for us Claire - searching for Woody this time?? Don't think my husband will be so eager to lend me his car next time though :)))

What a brilliant outcome, so good to know this girl is safe and warm, well done to all who have made this happen. I too have been wondering about all the dogs out in the cold, feel guilty going to bed some nights knowing that out there, somewhere, are dogs who are lost or have no one who cares ... but thank God there are some happy stories and good folk who are dedicated to their welfare. What a lovely few days it's been and what a relief that this girl is warm and safe. It's reduced me to tears!

Merlinsmum if you are the owner of missing but sighted Merlin in Wales then I think Ray was talking about you to me today. Good luck xx
ClaireC
Hi Steph I think Chiltern Dog Rescue is just up the road from me in Aston Hills towards Chesham I think they moved into a former kennels which were awful and that is being polite! I boarded my 2 former dogs one day only and when I got them out I thought never ever again and never did! I believe it has changed from those days as it is now a rescue and a few friends have had dogs from there. Last edited: 2013-03-25 08:04:28 by ClaireC
Merlinsmum
I am full of admiration for the incredible networking of all involed in this and all the other missing and vulnerable babies on here. I'm so relieved this baby girl is safe now.
Steph
Thank you both! I look forward to seeing her picture. Barney 'n' Ozzies mum, I too have a Barney and a Ruby as well, Barney is a pedigree GSD and Ruby is a Collie/GSD cross. Both were rescue dogs and were about 6 months old at the time, they are now about 10 years old. Barney was found near the M40 at Stokenchurch and taken to the RSPCA at Longwick, no one claimed him so we were the fortunate new mum and dad! Ruby was my Welsh Hill farmer :), found in Wales and we rescued her from Chiltern Dog Rescue, which used to be at the Lee and I believe has now moved to Chesham. My friends family are very heavily involved with CDRS, so that's how we knew about her.

I love my two to bits and feel so sad for all these people who have lost their pets. I would be devastated if I lost mine.

Thank you for all the updates! I will definitely be sticking around xx
Deb4gsd
Absolutely brilliant news, so happy for her and that she's now in the warm and being cared for, bless her! as mum to 4 GSD's this girlie was on my mind xx well done all :)

Photo will be along soon. As they say "watch this space". x

Hi Steph. We are all like one big family on here! Some of us have been helpers for years, but still get all emotional when something like this happens :) I am so grateful that you took the time to post the sighting on here. If you hadn't done that, this poor girl would most definetely still be out there in the cold! I too have previously owned a GSD, so this case particularly pulled on my heart strings. I hope you will stay on as a helper? I agree if would be wonderful to see a photo of her if possible x
Steph
That is such wonderful news and I must offer my gratitude to all of you who have been working so hard to save her. I don't know any of you, nor have I met you but what a wonderful team of people you are. Would it have been Ray who left an answer phone message for me one day a couple of weeks ago? I am just so happy she is safe and will hopefully now lead a lovely life with someone. Is it possible that you could post a picture of her because all I saw was this poor thin dog running into the hedge. As a GSD owner for many years I would love to meet her, but I don't suppose this is possible. I was so worried she would be run over by the tip vehicles, or farm machinery. Thank you all again. What a fantastic network of people you all are xxLast edited: 2013-03-24 20:25:41 by Steph

Oh bless her! Thanks so much for the update Claire. As you say - one less to worry about tonight. Hope this girlie finds a forever home if she can't be reunited with her owners x
ClaireC
She has been following Ray around so far today and sitting on the settee in the staff offices next to him! She's not chipped. Does have a swollen lip but was going to have an injection for it. Lots of black on her back and chest area but tan on the legs and very grey under her chin - who wouldn't be living up at Calvert! Very clean in the kennels and is now probably sleeping on her duvet with a heatlamp on again! Bet she can't believe the luxury and attention she is getting as it was thought she was deaf at one stage, but no, as she stands and stares at everyone! Will let you know any more progress when we are updated. One less to worry about tonight!Last edited: 2013-03-24 19:39:17 by ClaireC

This Girl is safely sleeping under a heat lamp out of that horrible cold!....RAY THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!.....we will update page a bit more tomorrow but right now this girl needs some TLC and Rest.
Algernon TrustLisaP
Claire, would you be able to confirm that this dog is still wearing a collar please, we've had possible sightings of Woody in Bicester today, no collar so dont think it is this one but wanted to check :)
ClaireC
Hi Ellie I know they do scan and when found stolen are removed. Seen and know it happens locally. Re emaciated condition I know it is gut wrenching to say the least to see them handed back as "they are not bad enough" at that particular time. What do you do apart from grit your teeth and saying to yourself "next time""next time".
Ellie
If the RSPCA go into these travellers sites then I would hope that they actually scan the dogs that they have just incase they are stolen! It's unbelievable isn't it that they are actually signing these poor dogs over to them !?!
ClaireC
Unfortunately some do have their dogs chips, not sure if I'm correct in saying that RSPCA staff when they go in on sites "chip" the dogs to them. I've found 3 dogs, 2 very recently and in an emaciated state and because they were chipped had to be handed back to them argggggggh!
Ellie
Do the 'travellers' have their dogs chipped Claire? I don't know, but I would doubt it! They don't care about their dogs that much! Let's hope this poor girl gets a nice forever home!
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Such a shame it's not Teddy or Roxy. Hopefully we will soon been reading that she's been caught and her ordeal is finally over x
ClaireC
I agree Steph but sincerely hope she's not chipped to the travelling community because it is thought she was left behind when they moved on!!!!
Steph
So sad that she isn't either of the two missing dogs, but really good news that she may soon be safe. A big thank you to all of you involved in this. I had been really worried about her out there in the cold and snow. I hope that maybe she is microchipped and can be returned to her owners.
ClaireC
This dog has been sighted by trapper late last night on private land. He has confirmed that it is female but is definitely not Teddy (nor Roxy)as colourings are wrong.I will of course send an email to Teddy's owner Sam. The dog is gaining in confidence especially as special prepared food is being left for her and hopefully it will only be a matter of time before she is caught. I will update further when I have any more info. xLast edited: 2013-03-22 09:54:06 by ClaireC

Good work Claire, hope it all works out :)
ClaireC
Nothing to report as yet apart from all the signs are heading to a positive outcome. Will update when I have more news for you all.
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Great news! Let's hope it's not too long now before this girlie is caught x
ClaireC
Hi folks, we may have been off the "air" but things have/are still going on! A trap is now in place as from today. This trap is placed away from the public area as the dog is sighted more on private land now. I will keep you posted when I hear something positive. Thank you xLast edited: 2013-03-14 13:15:18 by ClaireC
ClaireC
Thanks for info. So many Lurcher type dogs are around at the moment because we've got so many travellers! Lisa K don't think its the same dog as the Calvert stray I'm told by staff at landfill that def GSD. If anyone sees the ?Lurcher perhaps you might be able to see a few more features and then we could put on here as Found(Sighted only) even better if someone can get a photograph of either dog! etc. TVMLast edited: 2013-03-09 12:40:06 by ClaireC
Steph
Preston Bissett isn't a million miles either from Steeple Claydon or Calvert. I know the dog I saw at The rear of the landfill was definitely a GSD but could it be that in the dusk that someone could mistake the shape and colour of the dog for a lurcher?? The one I saw was very thin and a small build, which apart from the pink collar, also convinced me it was female.
Algernon TrustLisaP
Hi Claire, we had this info on the Woody facebook page, Woody wasn't wearing a collar, although of course he may be now, but I also noticed that Deanne mentioned the dog she saw was more lurcher type & that was quite close so wanted to share it with you - here is the info we received "I have seen what appeared to be a stray dog this evening in Preston Bissett. It appeared to be some kind of lurcher type cross but I can't be 100% sure. I couldn't really see specific colours as it was dark but it definitely had dark and light patches. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Woody but I didn't get a very good look. It did have a large distinctive collar. Does this sound like it could be the same dog?"
ClaireC
Hi Alison do you want to give me a call on either (Home)613835 or mob: 07887652916 ? Thanks
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Claire - is it ok to go and have a look around at the weekend, or would you rather I didn't because of the trap?
ClaireC
The Trapper and Landfill Site staff are now in communication with each other. Hopefully the dog will be seen again. Will keep you all posted.
ClaireC

Thank you LisaK
Algernon TrustLisaP
Hi Claire, I will ask on Woodys page if anyone has seen it & let you know :)
ClaireC
Sadly, this dog has not been sighted at the Landfill for over a week. If any of you, when out and about, sight it can you please post here and exactly where the sighting was. If you have a mobile phone with you it may just be possible to take a photo of it which would be really helpful. Thank you.Last edited: 2013-03-07 11:25:58 by ClaireC

Sorry LisaK cracking up - it must be this awful virus! Thank you.
Algernon TrustLisaP
Hi Claire, Deanne has added her info on this page shortly after my comment :)
ClaireC
Hi All, still waiting on news of trap and trapper to contact me then I will know way forward. Lisa K I haven't got any info as yet.
Steph
Is there any further news on the dog? Has anyone managed to get a glimpse of her at all? I drove along the Edgcott to Quainton road earlier today but saw no sign.
Steph
Hi Deanne, the dog I saw at Edgcott was most definitely a GSD, it was very thin though, sounds like there is another dog running free in the area then. Last edited: 2013-03-03 22:04:57 by Steph
Deanne
Hi, sorry haven't used this site before but saw very thin black and tan dog in field next to Redlands Close Steeple Claydon at 11:30am. Very timid. Couldn't see a collar. But more lurcher shape than GSD ?Don't know if it's the same dog. Hope this is the right place to post? :0)
Algernon TrustLisaP
Hi Claire, have had a message on Woodys facebook page that there has been a sighting at lunch time today, have sent link to this page or asked for info to pass to you :)

Claire Weston Turville is coordinating events with the search for this girl, to try avoid too many people visiting site and possibly scaring the GSD away from a safe area if you wish to help with the trap watch please email admin@doglost.co.uk put ATT Claire WT 49243 in the header and she can then contact helpers with a plan
Steph
No, not saying untrainable but would take a lot of working with I should think. I think a dog will revert to the wild quite quickly if not found. I always think though that in the right hands a dog can be retrained.
Ellie
It would be wonderful if it is Teddy because I'm sure that Sam would be able to get her back to the way she was even if it might take some time.
ClaireC
I would have thought possible but would have to be in the right hands to do this! It took me 18 months to gain the trust of a discarded Lurcher many years ago but I have to say he wasn't "vicious" as this one has been described as!
Ellie
Hi Steph
Are you saying that this dog won't be able to be retrained?
Steph
I've just read through the info about the other dog at Mursley, I reckon it is the same dog but I feel 100% that this is a female dog. I know she is thin, but the overall build I.e. body height and length, bone structure etc all points to being female. If it is the Mursley dog then she has been wild for a long time and will be accustomed to her lifestyle now. Very sad.
Ellie
Why anyone would want to put a pink collar on a male dog is quite beyond me. Funny people!
Ellie
Hi Clair
What we have to remember is that Teddy was stolen (most likely) by 'caravanners' in the first place. So they are quite likely to just leave her stranded as they would any other dog if they had to move on in a hurry!
ClaireC
Please have a look at Dog Id (Found)41598
It is thought that this might be the same dog which has been left behind by "caravanners"!
ClaireC
Travellers also like the colour of pink believe me I've got enough "pink" dogs up here and most of them are male strangely enough!!!!
LindaT
Someone at some time has placed this pink collar on the dog so I wonder if there are pups she had an unplanned mating and got kicked out... would it be possible to contact vets in a reasonable radius to see if they have a GS registered who was known to them and wore a pink collar, and hasn`t been seen for a while? Just a thought that keeps going through my mind :-)
Ellie
Hi Barney'n'ozzies mum
It's just that this barking and yapping has been mentioned a few times. Yapping seems to be associated with small or young dogs which is what got me wondering. Also it could be what is making her aggressive, although that could just be that she has become feral. Would anyone have noticed if she had been lactating as in her nipples being prominent like bitches have when they are feeding their young? It's got me a bit confused now!
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
You've got me wondering now Ellie! If this dog does indeed have pups, maybe that is why she is being "aggressive" towards anyone who tries to get near her. Hopefully some more sightings will start coming in and then we'll know for sure.
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Oh right! Do you think it could be coming from the kennels nearby that Claire mentioned?
Ellie
Hi Barney'n'Ozzies mum
I mentioned the puppies because there seems to be other dogs yapping and barking. I know that Teddy's a girl but she has been spayed !! LOLLast edited: 2013-02-28 19:35:29 by Ellie
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Hi Ellie. Why do you think there may be puppies? Teddy is a girl by the way.
Ellie
I hate to say this but is it poss that this dog has a puppy or two? If this is so then it obviously wouldn't be Teddy!
CJ
Claire,

No this was alongside the landfill itself and truck turning, then across the other side to the train line and trees, will have a walk up on Friday.
ClaireC
Don't forget that there is a chap who has kennels and who breeds dogs and you would hear his dogs yapping & barking from that area as he too is near landfill!
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Thanks for the update CJ. Good to know that she/he is still around. It's quite windy tonight, so maybe she/he sensed you were close by and took off?
CJ
Hi all,
Took a good walk up the track about an hr ago, yapping/barking was heard just over on the landfill then appeared to move over across to the fields and stopped, I hung around a bit where I have seen animals track across before in an opening in the fencing but nothing....will try again on Friday when I am working at home.
Steph
I agree Claire, she has been around or a while and managed to keep away from humans so is probably terrified. In the field just up past the old farmyard is a pond which is quite accessible so she can probably get water from there. I surprised I've not seen her before as I've walked my dogs in those fields for years. I'm a bit concerned about going up here now though as my dogs would chase her if they saw her, plus one of mine doesn't get on with other dogs so wouldn't want to antagonise the situation.
ClaireC
Hi Steph, I look at that old farm and whistled a few times around it just to hear/see if anything moved. You are quite right there are rather a lot of good hiding places. Bit reluctant to walk along the old railway because I don't want the dog becoming even more frightened and moving on at this stage if this is a possibility of where it is living. Very much dependent on the chap at the landfill at the moment. Softly softly is my recommendation.
Steph
Just to add that when I saw this dog it was mid afternoon, and it was on the little road that runs from Edgcott to Quainton but literally just past the old farmyard at the top of the hill going out of Edgcott. I have had GSDs for years now, males and females and I would swear that this is a female dog. Much more finally boned and generally smaller than any of the males I have known. She also had quite a lot of tan in her coat, quite light tan from what I could see, but with the black saddle. She appeared to be mid coat rather than short or long coated and had a long tail. Definitely a pedigree! As she was heading towards the bushes I couldn't see her muzzle, but as stated earlier unless it is a white GSD, it will almost certainly have a darker muzzle. I drove back to Edgcott along the same road tonight at dusk, but didn't see any sign of her. There are several farms in the location an lots of fields with hiding places, sadly she could be anywhere in there. Last edited: 2013-02-27 20:08:58 by Steph
Ellie
Hi Deb4GSD
I've just looked through all the GSD sites and you're absolutely right! They've all got black masks/muzzles! I really ought to pay more attention! I think that perhaps it's because Teddy's black seems to cut short at her eyes with a little blob above and some of the others black goes right over their head! Oh well, you live and learn :)
I certainly agree with you about this poor dog, I shall be thinking of her all the time now until she's safe and warm and loved once again!
Deb4gsd
Hi Ellie, didn't mean to put a dampener on things, but as I say, most GSD's will/should have the black muzzle/mask! but let's hope it is Teddy, but even if not, this poor dog needs helping, and hopefully will be caught soon!

Hi Deb4gsd. Thanks for that. As I said I'm no expert on GSD's but I just know that everytime a GSD has been found I check it out for Teddy but it seems that most of them never had the black muzzle so they were easy to disregard as Teddy! Oh well, you've disappointed me a little as I thought that Teddy's lovely black muzzle was a good indication that it was her, but never mind, nothing has really changed so there is still a good chance that it is!
Deb4gsd
have been following this thread about this poor dog and so hoping he/she can be caught and brought back to a loving home, but especially hoping this is Teddy, that would be fantastic! Ellie, you mentioned about the black muzzle being unusual, sadly it's not unusual, this is how a GSD should look, with the black muzzle/mask, it's more unusual for a GSD to NOT have a black muzzle! All of my GSD's have very black muzzles/masks!
ClaireC
Hi Ladies just remember nobody knows the sex of this dog yet as I pointed out to Sam this morning! I'm sure everybody would say that no matter what gender this dog is it certainly needs to be caught. I do think the chap will take a greater interest as well now. He may gain the dog's trust a bit quicker as the dog has seen him on occasions. Who knows but we can hope in the interim. xx

Hi all,

Will take a walk with the camera early evening and report back any findings. Will see what food I can find to take her fancy....If I see her and can get a pic too I will do.
Ellie
Hi Barney'n'Ozzie's mum. What a shame ! I feel that everyday this poor dog is out in the cold and wet it's another horrible day for her and not good for her health. I once read a story and saw the youtube video of a lion that was reared by hand and at a year old was reintroduced to the wilds. A year later the man that reared it went back to see how he was getting on and the lion recognised him straight away and started jumping up and licking him! Not something I would personally relish but it brought a tear to my eye.So I had hoped that this would be the case with 'Teddy'!!Last edited: 2013-02-27 11:15:53 by Ellie
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Hi Ellie. Unfortunately, when dogs turn feral (which happens very quickly) they don't seem to recognise their owner straight away. I've been a helper on here for a few years now and have read this many times. On some occasions the dog has walked right by the owner and shown no recognition whatsoever! It's really a matter of gaining her trust, which could take ages, scenting, setting up a feeding station, etc. I'll be much happier once the trap is in position, but it could be weeks before she ventures anywhere near it. Sounds really hopeful about the black muzzle though doesn't it :)
Ellie
Oh wow! This is so getting my hopes up that it is Teddy! I think it might be quite unusual for a black muzzle although I'm not a GSD expert! I'm wondering that if Sam was to go there and hang around (sorry Sam I know you're a very busy lady) I'm sure she would recognise her and go to her straight away. If this is not poss then scenting is the way forward. Whatever happens Good Luck with it and fingers X.

Sam has just phoned the chap at the landfill. She will report back later. Thank you everyone.Last edited: 2013-02-27 09:29:00 by ClaireC

Also will add that there is a plan to get this dog caught but probably not until after this weekend when hopefully a trap will become available.

Hi all, it is 05.30 hrs am that this dog has been seen at the landfill! I have left various messages for Sam (Teddy's mum)to phone me and I have also given her the phone number of the chap at the landfill.
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Just a thought CJ, if you see her could you try throwing some food her way, but not actually making eye contact, to try and start gaining her trust. I think we are going to have to take this really slowly as she's been out for so long, but if she associates you with the food, hopefully this will be a start in the right direction. Perhaps Sam could get up there do do some scenting too?
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Thank you SO much CJ!! I got a tingle up my spine when I read your comment about the muzzle! I so want this to be Teddy, but at the same time really scared to get my hopes up!! Hope Sam is reading these posts xx
CJ
Hi all, I will try and take a walk up there early one evening....I am going to guess that if the guys at the landfill see her at 5.00/5.30 she must leave the site and move into the woods and nearer the train line/bridal path - I have ever only seen her at evening/night and never during the day - the bridal path gets a lot of dog walkers/walker/horses so she may stear clear?

Barney's mum - I have to say she certainly looks very similar - it's the muzzle which stands out - but very thin and wet, but yes, a possibility - I have been posting all the info there too.
There are a lot of badgers/foxes about so every possibility.
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Hi CJ and ZX9girl. Great that we now have you both on board and that you're quite local. If you can get photos of this girl that would be brilliant! We know she's normally seen early am, but not sure about pm. CJ, can you please take a look at Teddy's page (35377) and let us know if there's any chance it could be her? This poor dog needs to be helped either way. Wonder what all the barking is about? Do you think she could be trapped? Maybe she's warning off other animals from her food source - badgers or something?
ZX9girl
Can I get a full post code please of sighting and reg 5.30 see if known I not far from there. And will try to get there before 5.30 to see if I can get some snaps. Will be out weekend looking for Fagen who is missing as well all be it in a dif area. Now is that 0530 am or PM ???

Hi all followers. We have been out but sadly didn't see this dog. We made enquiries at Calvert landfill and it would appear that the dog "lives" there with a usual sighting at around 05.30 am on a fairly regular basis by a worker. (I have his name & contact details). It is said that nobody can get near enough to this dog to even find out gender as it appears is "vicious" now. I'm not sure their interpretation of the word. I will speak with other Admin coords to seek the best solution. I have left a message for Sam, owner of missing GSD Teddy to give me a call. Hope to post something on site soon as to way forward. Thank you Barney & Ozzies Mum, it was nice to meet you today and I might see you at the Car Wash after our rallying adventure!

I've been looking at the google earth maps - the old disused rail line that runs through Mursley / Swanbourne ends up at Calvert area so she could easily and safely have traversed this route on her own from where she was seen last year, she also would be likely to show 'agression' if anyone came too close after that long fending for herself - we could try a trap once we can decide on a spot to place it - although I am going to be unable to monitor it or help until after crufts - it could be a long one as if she is feeding at the tip - enticing her away from ready made scavenging will be very hard so possibly one person close by to start feeding one location say just before bed may give us a head start before attempting a trap
Steph
Having read all the info about the dog at Mursley, it sounds very much like the one I saw yesterday. Also, the one I saw has been around the Calvert area since before xmas so the timings tie in too. Mursley isn't too far from Calvert either, as the crow flies. I still feel that this dog was a loved pet as she was wearing a collar and a pink one too, so sounds like someone loved her enough to buy her a pretty collar. I hope she soon gets caught, its pretty dangerous round the landfill and local roads with heavy traffic.
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
For anyone that's interested, I believe the Mursley dog was spotted on 26th July 2012 and Teddy went missing on 12th December 2011.
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Angus - any chance of a trap being set up for this poor dog?

The Mursley dog was longer ago than I thought - but from the description pink collar & emaciated sounds like it could well be the same dog http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=41598

Unfortunately I think it's a bit too far away to be Roxy, Mishybird. I tend to agree with Angus that this is the girlie seen near Mursley back in October. Makes more sense if you look at the area on a map - but of course we never rule anything out x
Mishybird
could it not be Roxy. http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=48676

Hi Shereen, yes I've seen Teddys page, there is a possibility it is her. In her photo she does look to be a bigger build and quite fluffy tho, but if shes been running wild for a year of course that can change. If I see her again I will post back here, but otherwise I am almost sure she is living near the landfill or scavenging from local farms etc
Shereen
Steph,Thanks,....have you seen Teddy's page??....do you think maybe it could be her?.....who ever this dog is we should somehow be able to help here...DW wont normally come out unless dog is secured so normal really...but we should be able to help...see if you can get a picture and update page of sightings etc and we should be able to build up a picture of this dogs travels.
Steph
Also I contacted the AVDC dog warden who said they will only come out if I've secured the if as they cannot go searching for it.
Steph
The only info I have is that I saw the dog as I was driving into Edgcott from the Quainton Road. She was what I would call a Black and Tan but with black only on her back. Was mid coat rather than short coated, quite thin and wearing what appeared to be a pink collar which I suppose could have been red originally. My son works for Calvert landfill and believes the dog is living on there. He has been told not to approach her as she is vicious. I will see if he has seen her again and can maybe get a pic of her. She has been around since before xmas as far as I know so is probably the same dog as sighted below. She ran off into the bushes/fields towards the landfill. I would have tried to get her but had my two GSDs in the car, one if which doesn't get on with other dogs.Last edited: 2013-02-25 17:23:00 by Steph

Been diverted here from a FB page if it is of any help,
Over the last few months have seen a German Shepherd very similar to this, looking very malnourished and a "light" coloured collar.

October 2012 Approx 11/12PM - Seen on the main road near the Calvert/Chardon crossroads, running straight down the road away from Calvert towards Gawcott, slowed as thought was a dear. As I went past it stopped, reversed back and it ran into fields near reservoir.

Dec 2012 - again 11PM seen on the same road but run straight out in front of me across the road

Dec 2012 - Approx 6PM Brackley Lane into Calvert, daughters shouted that they saw a dog outside, looked at and looked remarkably like the same dog running off to bridal way alongside railway line.

Jan/Feb 2012 - the 1st day we had snow this year !! Approx 5PM, walked down the bridalway towards railway line to take photo's in fresh snow - noticed dog prints which was wierd as no foot prints, approx 1/2 mile down following tracks came across same dog again staring down - kept going away from me looking over it's shoulder before eventually diving off to the right towards the landfill.

I hope this is of use to someone and brings you closer to tracking down.

What time of day did you see her Steph, and what direction was she heading in? Wondered if she might head for the landfill site near Calvert scavenging for food? Last edited: 2013-02-27 17:36:17 by Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum

If its Aylesbury / Buckingham should come under the aylesbury vale warden & holding kennels work with us by alerting any possible matches - not sure on Bicester but holding kennels for that area check site and alert us of any possible matches on intake Last edited: 2013-02-25 13:00:20 by Angus

I wonder if this is the same one sighted in Mursley back in October time - she (?) was also wearing a pink collar - moved on when three vans were moved on by the council

Steph - do you think this could be Teddy 35377. I think her collar may be red, but it could have faded?
