Went to meet Clover this afternoon, after she'd been to the vet (bit of an infected paw, but otherwise fine)... she wagged her tail in greeting, dear soul, and after a little while decided to have another snooze - not surprisingly ! Catherine thinks she's lost a little weight, she certainly has a good waist, but has been managing to fend for herself. I took a couple of photos of Clover before I left (wagging her tail again).. if they come out ok will send one to Catherine to upload the happy ending. Welcome home sweet Clover xx

Very happy to see this Catherine - now stay safe lovely Clover. She was clever to realise that she should try and find help with another dog lover.

Dear all my lovely and kind friends, Jayne, Shereen, Lynne, SANDY, Bryn & Maureen, Baileyhilldog, Paula Griffin's Mum, Philippa etc.

I am delighted to tell you all that thanks be to God and to all of you dear kind friends and numerous others, and the loving kindness also of total strangers, our darling Clover has been found.

Late last night just yards from where she turned up this morning,I gently tried to talk to Clover in a cajoling voice, and gently whistling. I couldn't do loud shouty calling as houses nearby, and was advised by DogLost not to do that anyway. I drove a little further by some horse fields at North Heath, Chieveley and tried again. We drove home again, feeling very sad.

This morning at 6.00am she was found by a kind householder sitting outside his front door, howling, wet, very very cold and clearly miserable. By the time the man called me she had been fed and was settled in a basket in his warm kitchen, with two friendly Cockers.

Again, my warmest and heartfelt thanks to all of you kind friends for your help, love and generosity of spirit.

I'll keep my eyes open for others' lost dogs in the meantime.

God Bless xxx Catherine B
Shereen
Catherine B you are doing so well spreading the word...don't forget to rest!..Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news for you.maybe re scenting that area again if you haven't done so already.X

Dear Lovely Kind Friends, Shereen, Lynne, SANDY, Bryn & Maureen, Baileyhilldog, Paula Griffin's Mum, Philippa.

I can't tell you how much your kind and encouraging comments cheer me on and keep me thinking positively. Today tried to follow up some rather sketchy vague reports of a couple of sightings of poss b/w springer in Chieveley. Spent the rest of the day in the usual area and driving round remote spots up by Bucklebury/Marlston. Called in at masses of village shops, schools, village halls, asked walkers, postman and knocked on doors and spoke to gamekeepers etc. I now feel that nearly all the locals are aware and are well informed, particularly by my family's and my continual presence in the area.

It is a very slow and painful wait for little drips of precious information. We continue to hope and pray.

Baileyhill Dog, you kindly asked about the tractor driver that I spoke to. He was called Philip Belcher and was so kind and sympathetic too. Goodnight all, and thank you all again, DEAR kind friends from the bottom of my heart.

Catherine B xx

Come on beautiful Clover, time to come home, wishing for your girl to be home with you soon, keeping fingers & paws crossed, will share on FB as I'm in the South East, SS5 area x

Really hope that you have Clover safe and sound before Friday but there is an agility competition at Newbury Showground this weekend (22/23/24 March) which may be worth visiting to do a bit of publicity if she is still missing.

Good Luck Catherine B I hope you get some more news today.

Dear Kind Friends and Followers of the Search for Clover

I have just heard that the dog mentioned below who has been running round Boxford etc. was seen in Chieveley on Saturday, and on Sunday morning. I am going to go and spend the day around Chieveley hoping that I might glimpse her. Any further updates, especially with dates and timings are most gratefully received. Thank you so much all kind Friends and Followers who are keeping Clover and us in your thoughts. Catherine B
Catherine B
Dear Bryn and Maureen, Baileyhilldog, Sandy and all, I cannot thank all of you helpers enough for all that you are doing, while we continue to hope and pray. This morning I revisited where Clover was last with my parents in law and saw food I left had not been touched. No sign of her. Drove with my kind mother in law in the snow to Great Shefford and Boxford to follow up possible sightings but again saw nothing. Very difficult to see a mostly white dog, with huge clumps of snow falling. Returned to site where she was originally lost at dusk and waited around, left fresh food and took Clover's mother with us who scented everywhere around. Are so hoping that over the coming days she may return to this spot. Thank you so much all lovely kind people, for your help, suggestions and kind thoughts.

Will continue searching more tomorrow and will contact Dog Wardens in wider areas than the Newbury one, also local riding stables.
SandyW
Spent about 4 hours in the area today, house-to-house - concentrating on those backing onto fields/more remote.. also anyone walking a dog/cycling, etc. Bumped into some police with a van who were helping an elderly gent, they said they will circulate with all the local officers. One man whose house I called at, right at the top of The Slade, was already aware and is going out for long walks just to look for Clover ! Also went to Brockhurst School, and hopefully they will make all the pupils aware to watch out and also display poster. Fingers crossed. Met with Catherine just before leaving, she had been placing food, etc in the woods. Just wondering if someone may have decided to take care of Clover over the weekend and will phone/report tomorrow morning - wouldn't that be fantastic. (I believe Catherine has contacted the DW, in fact I understand the gentleman called her back Friday 4pm, just to check. Asssume that was W.Berks.) Local residents/community group of The Slade has an email circulated to them about Clover... the lady who told me about it is going to reply to the email asking everyone to check sheds/barns, etc. Sandy

Catherine I cannot give you direct contact details for the posting on facebook as I picked it up from someone who forwarded it. I have however given them your number and asked them to contact you. Do you happen to know the name of tractor driver or what farm, he was on? I live in Great SHefford, know a lot of the local farmers and farm workers - in fact one of the farmers who farms adjoining Junction 14 of the M4 lost his own dog about a year ago, so he would have a lot of sympathy for you. I am working .5 mile from Junction 14 (Farols) tomorrow, so will keep an eye out. Thames Valley Police now have WPC dedicated to finding lost/stolen dogs - I spoke to her at Crufts - have you made contact with her?

I will keep an eye out for her when walking my own dog - let me know if you have any more sightings or her in or around Great Shefford.
Discovery
Catherine. I have logged Clover with the West Berks Dog Warden also the Reading dog warden and was suggested by them to log Clover to the RSPCA as well, this is done on line so I am also doing that for you. We are still keeping a watchful eye on the estate for you. Noticed the posters you were putting up on the trees etc at the weekend, We did a telephone number swap so will keep each other posted. Well done Catherine, you are doing all the right things and can imagine how wet you must have got bbq'ing in the rain! I have shared and tweeted again with msg re new possible sightings. One plus side of the snow is footprints! Bear in mind that most lost dogs tend to travel in a triangle, often going back to where they were lost, so may be worth keeping a note/pins on a map of possible sightings so you can see if Clover is doing this. No need to say keep at it .. I know you will. Good luck. Come on Clover .. show yourself and get home to mum!
BBKM
Do hope Clover is home safe very soon. Keep checking all used/unused sheds, stables, barns etc she may well make a den in one especially now it is snowing. Good luck, you are doing brilliant searching for your girl x

OF COURSE A REWARD IS OFFERED FOR THE FINDER OF LOVELY CLOVER, AND A DONATION TO DOGLOST! xxx
Catherine B
Dear Shereen, Sandy and all other lovely people, kind Facebook users etc. helping us in our desperate search for our beloved little Clover. I am gratefu l to you from the bottom of my heart.

I have received reports that on 15th March at about 3.30 a loose b/w springer was seen near Junction 14 of M4, in fields by a tractor driver, running wildly on it's own, near Great Shefford. On the morning of 16th March (Sat) she was seen at Boxford, (near Gt. Shefford) going down a footpath that leads to Bagnor.

Clover is unlikely to come to a man that she doesn't know, and would be far more trustful of a woman. She is a fairly nervous little dog, although very affectionate and gentle. She does however come from a very noisy, laughter filled household with all ages of teenagers and small boys coming in and out at all hours. Her character is much more assertive when outside on walks.

Last night my dear Mother in Law and I went up to where she first disappeared and left food for her, her blanket and a smelly old bit of family clothing in case she returned. We went back later, in darkness and barbequed sausgaes in pouring rain, talking all the while to try and cajole Clover nearer with delicious smells.

This morning at 6.30am I revisited the woodland area, off Tyler's Lane, Marlston, Newbury, but no animal had been near the 'safe haven' we had prepared. At 8.30 my mother in law and I set off for Great Shefford and Boxford areas along all the little back roads. A sudden thick fall of snow slightly hampered our progress and certainly our speed. We spoke to people and handed out posters and passed posters to village shops.

I feel greatly cheered and filled with renewed hope thanks to all you kind people with eyes and ears open. Thank you especially Shereen for your suggestions, and Clarkey and Sandy for all your walking and looking, all of you.

SandyW
Can you tell us the name of the person on FB so I can try to check it. Catherine has been to Boxford, but no luckLast edited: 2013-03-17 10:36:48 by SandyW

Seen on Facebook last night:- "Just seen a white and black springer in boxford on its own very wet and couldn't catch it" As the crow flies, Boxford is only 5 miles from Marlston

A long way from me but have shared on Fbk with friends in the areaand tweeted. Hv you registered Clover on the animal wardens site? They also list 'found' dogs and all the dog warden tel numbers .. suggest you let all in yr/surrounding areas know..if Clover is picked up by someone it's poss she could be taken to wardens in neighbouring area. Same goes for kennels/rescue centres. http://www.animalwardens.co.uk/lost-found-dogs-search/all-dog-warden-phone-numbers. Chances are that she is holed up during this wet weather so she may go back to where she was lost when it stops raining. Put lots of posters up everywhere and anywhere so you get sightings reported to you. Early mornings and dusk best time to call for her .. take some stinky food (sardines/tripe(freeflow not messy!) Maybe leave some of yr clothing (unwashed!)near to where she was lost so if she comes bk when you are not there she will stay close to it. Keep at it! Hope you find her very soon.
SandyW
went over to the area this afternoon with my 2 dogs (Irish Setters) and we walked across the fields to the woods behind where she was sighted in Tylers Lane. Calling, etc.. but no luck. The area is enormous, acres and acres. Happy to go again tomorrow, will ctc Catherine again and try the area where Clover actually disappeared. Catherine has covered the area well with posters, and we gave out smaller versions to anyone we saw with a dog, horse, walking, etc. Awful day/weather for her to be out there ... hope for better luck tomorrow.Last edited: 2013-03-16 19:50:36 by SandyW

Catherine it is well worth returning to the area when you can as I rather suspect that Clover is having an adventure and will return to the area that she was lost when she is tired and hungry especially if you have other dogs with you. I have been following the story on here of Penny a collie/spaniel cross who is leading her owner a merry dance and having a real adventure. I am sure that she will appear in due course, it's just being there at the right time. Poster well to let all the locals know she is missing. Good luck, hoping that she is home safe with you soon xx
wensmum
Have put her on facebook Lost and Found Spaniels, and will put her on Ragsie's twitter group - hope she is home very quickly
Lynne
Catherine, no problem, I'm just sorry the other dog wasn't Clover. It's awful for you and your family, but at least she wasn't stolen and you know the area she's in so I'm very sure she'll be home very soon. xoox

Email advice sent over to Clovers owners including Scenting instructions...
Catherine B
Thank you so much Lynne. But Clover was (thankfully) not stolen. She was on a walk with my parents in law, and a group of small boys from the Brockhurst school were on a woodland run with a Master, when the little dog took fright, (but not excessively so). Once the boys had passed by and petted the other 2 dogs, little Clover was no-where to be seen. Some people on a horse saw her up on the top of the field and my parents in law called and called frantically and she just ran off into the hedge. They could see her walking quite briskly inside the hedge then she disappeared off near and through some gardens by some houses. A little while later a man saw her walking up the road, (Tyler's Lane, Bucklebury). For 5 hours my poor parents in law walked and walked, calling and calling. Then I came over (they had presumed I had away that day, but my son was sick) with my son and we looked for a further 2 hours in dusk and then darkness. Yesterday morning we searched and called from 6am for another couple of hours, before I returned home (Bracknell area) to try and log onto this Website. Thank you so much dear Lynne for your suggestion. I called the Kennels at Havant this morning after seeing that post, to find it was a male liver and white spaniel that had been taken there. I continue to hope. Have a good week-end.
Lynne
Dog no. 49936 could be a possibilty but she would've needed help getting there. Do you know if she was stolen, rather than lost?
