Lovely ending. Thank you for posting the pic. xx

A happy ending to a very sad story, didn't realise that if your the owner of a dog that finds it way into a rescue centre you have to pay a fee for adopting your dog back again, bit like having your car clamped!

Nice to see 2 happy smiley faces xxxLast edited: 2013-03-25 07:48:23 by duffs54

My words earlier were not meant to be harsh or judgemental. All I was trying to say was I have been in a very difficult position with regards to the well being of my dogs and my financial difficulties. I didn't JUST go without a meal or petrol, if that was the case I would never have parted with my girls - there was an awful lot more than waiting for the next pay day. It was not a decision I made lightly and without alot of pain / heartache. I AM thrilled that this beautiful boy is home with his rightful owner and I am sure he is loved and cared for. Stay safe now, no more escaping x

brilliant result - so pleased Luther and his family have been reunited. Please, let's not judge: this site is about helping dogs and their owners stay together.

So very pleased this gorgeous boy is home safely. Whilst I regularly give to various organisations/funds/requests, there are times that I might find it difficult to get together a lump sum should Jess find herself in such a predicament. I would find it difficult the week before payday to come up with £90 - and kennel fees go up on a daily basis...... I have no problem with vet's fees - I do with people who judge. I have gone without myself for my animals - today's world is so unpredictable and I would certainly not consider rehoming just because I missed a meal or had no petrol. Luther - live long and prosper - and that goes for your owner too. I'm so pleased he's back with you - your lad looks in such good shape for a 'middle-aged' cutie - just look at that smile! xx

Well im really chuffed to see this boy home where he is loved...we all have times when we need a bit of help so thank you to all that helped!!....Also I dont think Luther looks at all skinny!......I think he looks good and has been with owner for 10 years!...he was described as even as young as 6 months so I think that says quite alot really...

Welcome home handsome.Xxx

Welcome home Luther so pleased you are safe xx

Welcome home Luther. I know from my own local vets that there is something in place for the needy people who do the right thing and take their pet to the vet even if unable to pay the full amount and each case is decided on the circumstances at the time. I hope that other practices follow something similar as I've never heard of any animal needing treatment being turned away. Also, the RSPCA I think can help out on those occasions. After all they go onto traveller sites and check dogs and those that require treatment I believe are treated and I do think the "owners" up there could afford to pay for treatment! Once again Welcome home Luther and stay safe and close and no more wandering off. xx

Welcome home Luther :-) xx

Hi, I must say I agree with you hello Janey. Our dogs do mean the world to us but if you cannot afford to collect from the kennels what will happen if he needs vet treatment etc. A few years ago I gave my two beautiful dogs away as I could not afford to keep them, it broke my heart but I knew it was the right decision for them, the lady who had them gave me updates every so often so I knew they were happy, loved & looked after. To the owner of Luther, we do not know your full circumstances and it is none of our business but if it really is a struggle financially would you be better finding him another forever home. I have dogs again now but didn't think about having another one until my circumstances allowed it. Sorry it does sound harsh, it is not meant to be I just thought it might help hearing from someone who loved their pets but knew the financial restraints were not in the dogs best interests. I am sure you will make the right decision and I wish you the very best of luck x

I think Luther can safely be moved into the blue now, I've spoken to his owner's sister and Leigh CDH and he was collected from there earlier this afternoon.

Tbh I'm surprised that Luther was initially described as looking like he needed a good meal, as whenever I've seen him he always looks well fed. I know it's easy to pass comments on any situation without knowing the details, suffice to say Luther's owner can afford to keep him, it's just that current circumstances (which I can't go into) mean that a lump sum of nearly ninety quid was far too much for him to find all at once.

Anyway, welcome home Luther, and no more wandering off if someone leaves the door open xx
hello janey
I would imagine the cost of pulling him is minimal to the cost he will be for another 10 years, I hope his "owner" can afford to keep this poor boy wether they love him or not.

I've just been reading updates on DL NW fb page. Helpers are offering to help towards the costs to get Luther out of Leigh, there is a photo of him on Leigh's website. His owner loves Luther very much and wants him back a.s.a.p.

Looks like he will hopefully be reunited soon. Thank you to everyone who is helping to get him back with his owner. x
Tigermouse
Has Luther been properly reunited though? Surely 'owner located' doesn't necessarily mean 'reunited'? His owner's sister is my young granddaughter's mum so I know the family quite well, I spoke to her at 1.45pm today just before I made my previous post, and what I've written is exactly what she told me. She asked me how much it would be for her brother to get Luther back and when I told her she said there was no way he could afford it - she did give me the details why but it would be breaking a confidence to post them here. If Luther has been properly reunited then I can only assume someone else has paid the fee, if not then he will no doubt be left at Leigh for rehoming.Last edited: 2013-03-23 23:51:04 by Tigermouse

email from finder to say owner located.
abigail
no surprise there then!
Tigermouse
Thanks for that Lady Owl, the dog is definitely Luther and belongs to the brother of a friend of mine. He escaped from the house when the door was left open by health visitors attending the owner's partner who is in a wheelchair, the owner was out at the time so didn't realise Luther was missing until he got home.

Luther has been taken to Leigh Cats & Dogs but may have to go up for rehoming as unfortunately his owner can't afford the fee to get him back.

Lady 0wl
Tigermouse - I spoke to the girl who found him earlier - was at the junction of Blackburn Road and Crompton Way.

I've seen a post on Bolton Destitute Animal shelter - that the may have traced the owner and dog is called Luther.
Tigermouse
I live near Blackburn Road, would be interested to know which part he was found. He looks similar to a dog owned by someone I know, it's a long shot but it could be a litter mate, it's hard to tell from the photo. Also just a brief point, Blackburn Road is in the BL1 area, not BL2.
ClaireC
"makeshift harness" suspect already as to who "owns" this poor boy. However at least he's safe at the moment xx

Ahhh he's lovely - shared on FB - hope his owners come forward for him xx
