Excellent advice, Debs. x

Good to see this clever lady is back home. I also agree with the others on leaving your dog tied up alone, it is no longer a safe option to do so. May I suggest if you want Ela to have run without worry if running off you can buy a training lead (not retractable) which are about 40 foot long. There a bit like a horses lunge line. I used this with one of my foster dogs who eventually learnt recall well on this lead. Stay safe now Ela x

Phew! I am so very pleased! Well done Ela! Sadly, in this day and age, we can no longer trust everyone to leave our dogs alone outside shops, or anywhere else for that matter, so DogLost advises all owners never to leave a dog unattended anywhere. It is not worth the risk. Very sad state of affairs that it has come to this, but too many dogs get walked off with for unsavoury reasons. Also, it will stop kids from scaring her if someone is always with her. Ela probably only ran away because the post was chasing her! Enough to scare anyone, dog or person! However, we have all been there when dogs decide to run off after something or to explore, despite our calls to come back. If she is in a strange place, she can get lost easily, so stick to the same route in the same park, but vary your times a bit for safety reasons. It may be you need to work on "recall" with treats> When she listens to you and returns give a tiny bit of a treat; just basic training ideas, or maybe she just needs to bond more with you so she trusts your judgement. If she's young, they do tend to explore the boundaries, just like kids do, but if she gets a good hour's walk/run at least once a day and you give her treats every time she comes back when called, it will help. At some point you will give treats every other time she returns, making it less, so she never knows when she's going to get one, but ensures she still returns. It may be a good idea to attend a local training class, but make sure its a good one. There are some not so good trainers out there. I have no idea whether you have trained Ela or not so I have no wish to sound patronising if you have - I am just trying to answer your question :-) Often dogs run off because they don't get the exercise they need, and if they get a couple of good walks every day, it can very often fix the problem anyway. However, if she should go again (hopefully not) please do not worry about registering her again on here. We are always here to help and we have all been there at some point. Don't feel embarrassed. Good luck and kisses to Ela. xxx

Great news she is home safely, I do agree that the way things are now we sadly cannot leave our precious dogs tied up outside shops anymore as there are scum bags around that will seize the opportunity not caring about the heartache they cause. Stay safe now beautiful girl x

So pleased Ela is home safely. In answer to your question below I would say never leave her tied outside a shop there are some nasty people just waiting for owners to do this then they take them to do what they want albeit train them for fighting or use them as bait for fighting. Good luck and so pleased she has returned safely this time xx

Hello everyone Ela is back, again. She strolled in midnight last night not a care in the world not a blemish in sight. Tiny bit skinny but she could afford to lose a bit! Thank you for all your efforts and if anyone has any suggestions about how to stop her playing her new favourite let-me-run-off-and-scare-everyone game (other than keep her on a leash) I would love to hear from you. Thanks. X

Okay, Mollychops has explained why poor Ela must have kept running. Being a bit dim at that moment, I never thought of this. If Ela was scared by kids and tried to get away and pulled the post that she was tied to, out of the ground, she then would have had the post chasing her down the street - hence she kept running away from the post too! And now she has got herself lost courtesy of a post! Poor girl. Owners, please get those posters up do NOT rely on chip alone. You need the public to keep alerting you. Have all the places mentioned below been notified? Come on on girl. x

poor dog going missing TWICE in one month! hopefully she is reunited safely again and remains safe

Hopefully she's come back to the shops as there will be food strewn around and the smell of food from the cafes and pubs may bring her back in where she can be seen. The fact that she was at King's Head Hill means this may be part of her triangle. She will probably go back to Tesco and Kings H H, so make sure you poster heavily in those areas and in between and out further. Where is home? Chingford or Clapham? She will try and get back to where you were before you tied her up. Did you drive there? Where was the car parked? Did you walk there? Where did you walk from? These are all points to poster and check. She might hide out in the bushes at the church. She needs water, snow may help for now and keep her in that area. The police station is right there, top of the hill, so hopefully the police will watch for her - make sure they all know. Notify the reservoir people too and hopefully she won't chase the sheep. With any luck she'll stay at the top of the hill. You found her before, you can do it again! x

Hi guys. She was missing last month and we were reunited but she has run off again. There was a possible siting on kings head hill in north chingford but couldn't find her when we went to look. Police, kennels and councils have been notified. I'm so sorry to report her missing again. I'm really sorry. A group of children crowded her and she got spooked and bolted down the road. Thank you all again for your efforts and kind words.

Sent email with advice. Someone must know what happened to this girl, dragging a post behind her! Cover the High Street in posters - ask all the shops to display one. Check with all the taxi cabs. Can you get this in the paper - they may well run it as she was dragging a post. What happened? How did she run - was she spooked by something? Also, check with the train station and the pubs. Poster the forest and speak to the man on the hot dog stall - he will help keep a look out and display a poster. He has reunited dogs before. Speak to the bus drivers, the church, and the historic site people, speak to the local riding stables - they too have helped find dogs in the forest. Everyone needs to know, okay? Let's find this girl. x
