Looking at the Northern Greyhound page - the gorgeous Otis is still looking for a new home. As you say Maz - he's looking good :)

Update on Facebook from Northern Greyhound rescue - he's looking very good now! Lovely photos!

Otis has now been in our care six months. His original story follows.
This poor, young male brindle Lurcher was brought into the surgery this morning with multiple wounds to his chest and abdomen and a suspected fractured left hind leg. He was found collapsed in the snow in a field just off Old Pepper Lane in Standish and rushed to the vets by a kind member of the public. When we sedated him to x-ray his leg we were utterly disgusted to find that his entire body and both hind legs were absolutely covered in multiple shot wounds. As a consequence he also has a punctured lung and fractured tibia/fibula in his back left leg. We do not yet know what internal damage he has as he is not yet strong enough for a full anaesthetic. He is now on a drip to combat his dehydration and shock and he is receiving antibiotics and strong painkillers .We have immobilised his fractured leg in a Robert Jones Bandage and he feels a lot more comfortable. Northern Greyhound Rescue will cover the cost of his medical and future surgical care. If we do not find his owner, once he is out of the woods, he will be rehabilitated and cared for until he is strong enough to go to a new home. Otis's bloods and chest stabilised a few days later and as he comtinued to improve, we took him down to Fitzpatrick's in Surrey We wanted the operation to be a success and the care there is second to none.
After three lots of surgery, a lot of hospilisation as well as being cared for and rehabilitated by his fosterers, Otis is now looking for his new home.
We cannot thank Noel Fitzpatrick and all his team enough for the excellent care Otis has received and for enabling Otis to walk again. Noel went the extra mile for Otis on several occasions and saw us out of hours when we arrived late after travelling when there were concerns about the leg. Also his fosterers who have cared for him after all the ops ,are still working with him and have waited up when we've arrived back at ridiculous hours with Otis from down south!
Otis still has mental scars and they may never fully leave him. We do know he was shot at close range but we don't know what else happened to him and it's to be expected the psychological damage will take longer to heal, he is quite wary of strangers.
He is however, living with three other hounds without issue, is housetrained and is playful and is an affectionate sweet boy who deserves a chance of a forever home after what he has been through in the last six months.Last edited: 2013-10-02 20:56:01 by MAZ

OTIS what a beautiful name for a beautiful dog. Well done everyone for what they have done for him and are still doing. I also hate animal abusers with avengance - think they should all be castrated then they don't breed any more of the scumbags. Hope he's soon up and about and in a good home - sure he will be xx

What a beautiful boy, been thinking about him all day at work.

How can humans vary so much, people like us would take him in and love him, afford it or not. Would go without food ourselves.

Then there's scum. If they read this they would probably laugh and be proud.

so hope they will pay, sooner or later, in heaven or hell.

It's not goood to hate, but I hate them with a vengence.

Have copied and pasted this from Gilmore Vets

Gilmore Veterinary Surgery Update 4 u.... he has now been christened 'Otis' by NGR He is doing well, much more comfortable on his leg and managing to bear a small amount of weight on it. His skin wounds caused by the pellets are bruised but starting to heal and he is breathing a lot better. He is eating well and drinking well and has come off his drip today. His leg will be repaired once we are certain that he can cope with an anaesthetic. Thank you so much to all that have enquired about him and generously donated

So glad that there are some caring people in this world - like the man who found him and took him to the vets ... I've been following this story on fb and Horse Gossip. I pray he will make a full recovery in time - suspect a long road ahead but he's having the very best care and attention. XX
