Thanks everyone. Twiglet is now vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and insured and I have completed the relevant paperwork with SCDC. He is doing well with his training classes and recently did a Dock Dogs competition with my son. He is mischievous and scruffy and makes us laugh constantly. He has become part of the pack with our other dogs and they are all getting on fine. I will post a photo on here. His ears are now healed - we think he had a run-in with a badger or a fox, and his fur has grown back.

Thank you Tazana - it was lovely to meet you too. I met someone in the village on Saturday who said that they had tried to catch Twiglet at the other end of the village LAST SUMMER! They are pretty sure it is the same dog so I believe that he has been on his own for some time. He is going to be castrated and microchipped next week. He also starts dog training classes. Walking with our 2 labradors is giving him confidence. He is the most delightful scruffy black dog who is a welcome addition to our family. I am writing a blog about him http://twigletblackdog.blogspot.co.uk

Lovely to meet Twiglet yesterday at the Cambridge County Show - what a happy little chap and so friendly - glad to see he is in the best possible hands and loving his new life xx

We have called him Twiglet because he was found in the woods. He has now been vaccinated and starts dog training classes the week after next. He is living quite happily with my 2 labradors who are teaching him dog manners as he didn't have any! My children take him for walks and we love him. He is a cheeky chap but very clever. He has now learned to walk well on the lead, to sit and lie down. Today he stole a large tin of dog treats from the table and buried it in the garden -it's quite obvious how he managed to cope for so long on his own. Our vet thinks he has been lost for some time as she had had reports about him several weeks ago. We have completed the District Council paperwork with a view to keeping him.
