It's Friday 7th June, Hello everyone and sorry I haven't posted here sooner. Fergal spent his first night fitfully, waking and crying but has improved a lot in these last two days. He is definitely a bit traumatised and panics if he can't see me, or strangers are about, but today he has perked up a bit and sat in the garden and had a good old howl (is that a territorial thing? he seemed to enjoy it). His leg is a lot better too with the antibiotics and cream. It has been a truly horrible ordeal, both of us are exhausted - but the relief is indescribable. I know how lucky we are. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Sue X

The farmer from Sanctuary Farm phoned me this morning around 8 to say he had found Fergal lying on the grass in a field above the wood just behind Stowe Barton. He was waiting for me with Fergal in his arms as I drove up. Maybe poochpal you were right and he made his way back to where he last saw me. Been there so many times with no sight or sound of him. I have taken him to vet, he is doing an x-ray and check and get him back on his meds. He did know me but was too limp to do anything. His leg is hurt. Thank you everyone so much, so many people have been out there looking. I will update when I get news from the vet. Ash, I think I know you and thank you and your mum for all your help and concern. Love to Everyong! It's a Good Day

I keep checking for news on here throughout each day and pleased to see that food and water are out for Fergal. My one concern is the shouting and calling, this is the natural thing to do but in the case of a lost and confused dog it can drive him away. Much better to just walk along chatting in a natural relaxed way. If he can hear you his curiosity may draw him closer. If seen DO NOT move. Drop down on your knees or sit looking away from him and quietly coax avoiding eye contact.
Did you take any more details from the collar? If there was a telephone number please can you telephone or email it to admin@doglost.co.uk it may belong to another missing dog. Good luck all who are helping, I wish I was close enough to join you.

I've just spoken to my mum who owns the animals in need shop in bude she has asked if someone can drop a poster down to her as we don't have a decent printer between us. She knows a lot of people who are animal lovers and who live or walk in that area.
It's the shop on the strand next to the carriers inn. She is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday and is already passing on the word x

HI
We walked the top route today with a spare lead calling all the way and saw nothing.
I did hear a howl though, it might have of been from another dog but we followed where the sound came from as far as my puppy and 3 children would walk but alas we found nothing. The food was still half there and loads of water. We did go off route a bit shouting and hunting. We did see a large thick collar but the address was gosport and a name newton. So put it at the side of the track.
We will use that walk a lot now till he is found I think as you never know.
Good luck x

Just don't remember. I will get back about facebook and twitter or try to follow/friend you Moogie. I really am a novice with them and did it in a panic. I was there about 2 hrs this morning and nothing. This afternoon the food at the top car park was down by about half, and all the water at the bottom car park gone. I have replenished both and going again with family later towards dusk.Last edited: 2013-06-04 19:34:33 by Fergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall

email sent to admin from a helper...
All quiet at the woods this morning - met one other lady who had seen the posters. Went off track in places calling his name, but had to rely on my dog finding Fergal as the greenery is very high. Water bowl still full at the top car park. from Linipoo

Can this be bumped please due to sightings
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Can anyone looking, and I know lots are, do that please? There are so many of them (streams). When he has had a fit he can lose memory for a day or two sometimes, he doesn't recognise me or anything familiar. I was out with a friend and her dog searching and he spent a lot of time tracking scent round the streams, way up into Stibb Wood and back. He is not usually a barker, but howls a lot. Have been hoping would hear it
DogLostOwl
The reason a dog may not respond to calls is not that he has gone truly feral, but is nervous and confused and his instincts will tell him to keep a low profile. A lost dog can go into this mode quite quickly. I would keep checking along all streams, watercourses and ponds, including those in the wood, as in this weather he is likely to stay close to water.
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
How long does it take for a dog to go feral and not respond to calls?
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Thank you all for your comments and kind words. I have been out so much not had time to sit at computer. Also now on facebook and twitter but not a clue how to use them, but will soon. A leaflet exercise this morning got a phone call tonight, which has confirmed one at the weekend, both for Saturday around 12.45. He was seen coming down the hill from top car park to the bottom one. I had been there scenting the track from 5am but left at 10 to start the posters and returned about 2pm, so missed him. My recall of the timeline is mixed up now but my daughter thinks this is about right. I have decided now to stay out of the woods calling him or enticing him back to them, as the picture of him frantically running around after my voice trying to catch up is haunting me now. I shall just go to the food stations. But at least I know he made it out of the woods. The lady described him as grey, its the mix of black and white, I was told this would happen as he grew and noticed it myself just recently. There is no response from him when i call now, the last time I heard him (I beleived) was Saturday morning. I don't really think he is still there, but perhaps he has just stopped responding as suggested by some people I have met. I left two food stations with clothing, the one at the top car park was all gone tonight, but that could be other dogs. The bottom one is being enjoyed by a magpie. Sorry I'm gabbling. Thanks everyone. SueLast edited: 2013-06-04 02:48:05 by Fergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall

I'm from bude and recently have started walking my northern Inuit puppy down by duckpool beach with my 3 children. I've shared on my facebook for you and will keep an eye out as we are hopefully going tomorrow for a walk there. Have you tried advertising on a facebook page called 'bude bargains'? When I lost my cat it was a lifesaver and that group and posters got her returned home.
Also I'm obviously concerned about the German Shepards that have been said to be walking around there. Has that been reported to the police?
I hope you find your baby. I will tell everyone I see. Good luck x

I would suggest looking in particular around streams and pools.

email from a kind helper looking for Fergal...

Hello

Sorry, I haven't found Fergal.

I just wondered if you could inform those looking for him with their
own dogs to be aware of some viscious dogs at the woods (with owners
who don't care).

I met the owner of Fergal about an hour after he went missing and I
did look for him. However, we met 2 out of control Belgian/German
Shepherds, one who attcked my 11 year old. I was on the floor with my
dogs and had the viscious dogs growling and barking at me and both my
dogs. The owner took the viscious one away by the collar but left me
fending the other dog off with a walking pole. The man is apparently
local although, I luckily haven't met him before. He is quite
distinctive. 5'5" with very long fair frizzy hair tied in a pony tail.
He drove a red estate. This was on the grass area by the bridge close
to a parking area (sorry roads don't have names)

2 weeks prior an elderly labrador was attacked by a German Shepherd.

I hopefully, will try and visit the woods this afternoon.

Apologies again that I haven't found Fergal.

Sorry to hear Fergal is missing, we live in Bradworthy so will keep our eyes open for him, have also posted on facebook. We lost our springer before christmas so we know how distressing it is, hope he is found soon

sorry to hear Fergals gone missing hope hes found soon, have given my partner posters to distribute at his work as he has drivers who deliver in and around the area.

I’ve found that it helps to print out an A4 sheet of paper cut into business-card size slips, each with brief details and your phone number on. Give them to all the local dog walkers, postmen etc. you meet. Then if someone has news when they’re out and about they don’t need to find a poster or log on to the site to contact you. Glad he's tagged and microchipped. My first dog was epileptic too so I'm hoping your boy is home very soon.

I hope he is found really soon bless him, too far away for me to help I am afraid, but praying for you x

Shared on our business facebook page (Cafe Bellinis, Bude based) and will display a poster for you, having an epileptic dog ourselves we can understand how worried you must be and hope Fergal will be found safe and well and be home soon.
