I saw a pale Saluki at the end of a walk today. It was jumping into the back of a Metro. The important bit is that this was at South Wigston. The place the dog was being walked was Crow Mill. That's about 8 miles north of Howard's home. I wasn't in a position to stop. *Really* I wasn't able to stop since the clutch cable on my car had snapped and I was limping home crashing through the gears. I'll poster that area. How many white Salukis are there?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is a white saluki x for sale in wembley, 3 year old dog, ive telephoned the chap, hes irish, he was advertising several older dogs, says its due to a house move, i said i would look at the dog the weekend and asked for his address, and he told me to drive to wembley and ring him again, and he would give me the address then. Hes advertising it as a suluki x lurcher?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Warwick - just read your post of 13/2/06 - it may be worth contacting Ramblers Association and any local rambling groups to make sure this public right of way is regularly used. Warn them to keep their dogs close at all times while on this *******'s land though.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It really wasn't high on my list of 'things to do' at the time. By the time it occured to me that the behaviour wasn't just threatening, but 'threatening' a few days had passed and I decided that leicestershire poice probably wouldn' put it high on their priority list. Just a thought Warwick, but have you reported that farmer to the Police for threatening you and your dog? It may also be worth reporting it to the local Council if people are being intimidated on a public right of way. It seems particularly suspicious that he wouldn't even look at the poster, especially as the last person to see Howie was farmer and there have been no sightings since. Thanks Warwick, you are a star. We think a farmer was the last person to see Howie and it was near sheep. I wonder! No sightings so things are not looking good.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How terrible of that man to behave in such a way. It sounds like you have your dog under complete control - shame he has such a problem controlling his temper. I don't think all of them are like that - I hope not for Howard's sake. Come home safely Howard! RxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wet and miserable day today but we headed down the canal from North Kilworth and added a couple of posters. No sightings. There are a lot of sheep in that area and it's lambing season. It appears that the area is peppered with little farms too. We were threatened by a farmer on a quad when our Old English went bounding over to say hello to him. She was ignoring the stock. I was told that she was out of control and if he saw her again he'd shoot her. I pointed out that she'd recalled immediately, ignored the stock and the stock weren't bothered by her presence. The quad was green and there was a shotgun in a cover strapped to the back. Considering my farming background I was struck by his attitude. He wouldn't even look at the poster and then told me to get off his land before he called the police. I was on a public footpath that was maintained to a minumum standard to avoid complaints. If there are many more farmers like that in the area then I fear for Howard's chances. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks warwick, it is good of you to poster. Salukis do get distracted when loose but more often than not make their way home IF they can. Still no sightings.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It added a few extra miles on to the drive to take Holly for her big weekend walk but I added a few extra posters on the canal at North Kilworth this afternoon and talked to a few other dog owners. On the return journey I took the narrow off the beaten track lanes travelling slowly. It made for perfect timing as my 2 year old daughter nodded off on the way home so she had a decent nap. I stuck a poster up in Blaby too. Are Saluki's known for going walkabout?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner was told to start at five miles then extend to ten but there may have been a slight delay in posting so Howie may have slipped the net, worrying that there have been no sightings by now. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is a five mile radius far enough for a Saluki ?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Warwick that is good of you. Owner was told to poster a five miles radius from area Howie went missing. Worrying that there has not been one sighting, a Saluki will try to make it's way home if it can. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Everywhere on the Welford side of that area seems to have been posetered by the owners. I'll take some plastic coated sheets on the way home this evening. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What a stunning dog Howard is! A friend of mine owns a saluki who often runs off during walks after squirrels etc. Her dog will usually return to the same area within a few hours. Really hope Howard is found soon - glad he's chipped and tagged! Worth putting posters up in and around where you last saw him!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
