Sadly found dog 19847 is not our missing Fizz this time. Still looking for you Fizz xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have taken a mobile phone pic of found dog 19847 on my PC, and sent it via text to Fizz's dads mobile to be checked out. The pic of the found dog is not so distorted when saved to your pc and then opened up again. We cannot cross match with the photo of Fizz, as its a pic of her sister on the page, and not actualy Fizz. Owner says very similar though. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A helpful gentleman from Royston has called me back and has looked at this photo. The found whippet does resemble Fizz and is the right age, the doubt was concerning the picture and what seems to be a white front paw - but I have just seen that our pic is of Fizz's sister not Fizz herself so not identical. Royston Welfare is going to call owner. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I will put Fizz up on our web site www.rainrescue.co.uk in the hope that local people may read it and hopefully notice her. I do feel for you. As we have just had a chat - pop her up on dog pages - there are so many people who go on there - someone may notice her on there. Also, I would change her from being Central - to North - and highlight that she is in Sheffield or Rotherham boundary - not many people will know catcliffe or handsworth and associate them with there. Good luck and all fingers crossedLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Kev, I know this must be wearing you down by now, try to keep positive, easier said than done I Know! I was thinking maybe someone has found fizz and hasn't seen the publicity. If she has been found in the area she has possibly been spotted it might be worth contacting the press again. what about the Rotherham Advertiser? Give them a call and tell them you desperatly need their help, tell them about the sightings and all the searching. When you get through to the reception ask the girls if can speak to a reporter who has a dog as they are more likely to print a story about a dog. Sorry to keep going on Kev but I think the general public need a reminder. If there is anything I can do let me know. Shirley xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I assumed on the outside Kev. Oh dear, I hope it wasn't Fizz. I can't get hold of the finder now until tomorrow afternoon but if you want to ring Hilbrae Kennels where this dog was taken, their number is 01952 541254. I think the dog was taken there early last week. Telford is a very long way from Sheffield so hopefully it isn't Fizz. I'll check on here tomorrow pm before I ring the lady who found it. Hi Kev, the reason I asked was that a black dog was found in Telford a few days ago. Very thin and wearing a light brown coat with large check type pattern. She/he was taken to Hillbrae kennels in Shropshire and then treated at vets for 4 days but didn't make it unfortunately. The finder thought it might be a lurcher. I'm so glad it wasn't Fizz but if anyone knows of a missing dog fitting the description please let me know and I'll get more details. Chris Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone, spent 2 hours in the woods this morning, no sign of fizz. We did see the posters that kev and his family have put up. I printed some more posters off and took them with me today and gave them out to all the people we saw and asked them to keep an eye out. I also explained about this web site and suggested that they told their friends and family about it. I am wondering wether any of the houses that back onto the woods have seen anything, if fizz is in that area maybe she could have wondered into the gardens looking for food and shelter. It might be worth while posting some posters through the letter boxes. I wish we had found her, she needs to be back with her family. Shirley xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Those woods seem to be the place to keep looking. Whippets are stronger than you think and if it is her she is probabaly scavenging for food and surviving. You are doing the right think Kev just keep going back day after day, see if you can go at the same times as these other people saw the black dog. If you can muster up any helpers then spread the day out between you. Sorry Sheffield is a bit out of our area but we are with you in spirit.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My husband was walking our dog at Canklow Woods this afternoon and a black whippet with a white chest and red-coloured collar came running out of the woods down the track on West Bawtry Road (near Canklow MacDonalds roundabout). My husband tried to coax the dog over as he didn't want it running out onto dual carriageway and the dog started to come but then ran back up into the woods (the stretch of the woods near the row of houses that run from Canklow roundabout to the Swallow Hotel). Just got in from work and my husband has asked if Fizz has any white on her - this dog had no lead nor coat on. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You prob already know but scary as it is many dogs are re-homed after 7days-as Fizz has no chip/tag, it is vital you keep checking all the rescue centres/pounds in the local area and further affield. The first time Poppy was stolen she ended up in Battersea, which we thought too far away-only just found her in time. Send them all posters too-she was missed the first few times we asked.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How dreadful. Your poor father, and Fizz. With regard to the family calling a similar dog Fizz, I've had 2cases of very similar collies to my Poppy 10.10.05 being called Poppy. One def not her, the other I have hopes for. But Fizz more unusual name so even more likely. Maybe put out a poster nr where she was seen including-"are you or do you know anyone with a similar dog called....?"to help rule it out if it wasnt her or find her if is.Good luck!Jo.xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poor sweet Fizz, to be attacked by five dogs. My Dobe has been attacked twice by Labs, the owners weren't bothered at all. On the last occasion had to have stiches in his neck. Totally agree that if you can't control your dog, don't let it off the lead. Hope Fizz is safely home soonxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

poor thing-just caught up on some of the threads. it doesn't matter what breed of dog they are- if you can't control them don't let them off. My lab x has been attacked by two seperate boxers then about a month later 2 spaniels. None of them were in control. I really hope this youngster is ok & can be found. At least she's been spotted-that's usually a good sign.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have you tried ' senting' ... she might come to your smell - maybe go out very early in the morning to where she might be hiding... best of luck. Am thinking of your poor Father. I've just sent an E-mail to Big John on Hallam FM. Hopefully he might give Fizz, and the web site, a mention tomorrow.(Crossing fingers till they bleed!!!) We share the same surname so he's sure to spot it! Was she actually in Morrisons car park or just the general area? It's so close to the parkway. Hopefully the noise of the traffic would scare her the other way. There is a police dog handler who walks his dog on the field between the bridge and the roundabout. Have you tried Police Central Transport next to carcraft? If not I can nip in on my way home tomorrow. Let me know! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm wondering if she's hiding in the landfill compound where the coking plant used to be. It's ran by UK Coal. I've dealt with them in the past and they're quite helpfull. I'll try to find the number. Will make a point of travelling that way to work. I'm off early in the mornings so it'll be dark. Fingers crossed!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It says Fizz was wearing a collar and lead so maybe the name was on a name tag, if this was indeed Fizz with this man and children. If the dog was this colour and looked like a whippet then it is a possibility as this is not the most common colour, although there are quite a few around. Hope there is some positive news of Fizz very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Me and my hubby were walking our dog down the path at the side of the nature reserve that leads into the rother valley from sheffield road killamarsh and we notice a whippet type dog with a guy and 2 children, we put our dog on his lead as he gets excited round other dogs and as we were passing this dog the owner called it fizz, when I recieved the doglost email tonight it rang a bell straight away. We have contacted Fizz's family and I will get some posters put up in the area. I will take extra walks around the village, when i'm not at work and be on the look out. It may just be co-incidence but its worth the effort just in case.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

/continued......A person found guilty of an offence may face imprisonment or a fine, and the courts may disqualify the offender from having custody of a dog for any period. This legislation also applies: Under the Town Police Clauses Act of 1847 it is an offence for any person in any street: to let an unmuzzled ferocious dog be at large so that it obstructs or annoys the residents or passengers in the street or puts them in danger; or to set on or to urge any dog to attack, worry or put in fear any person or animal. A dog will not be at large while it is held on a lead. The word 'street' here is given an extended meaning to include any road, square, court, alley, thoroughfare or public passage. These acts also apply: Under the Dogs Act 1871, any person may make a complaint to a magistrates court that a dog is dangerous, or report the matter to the police. If the court is satisfied that a dog is dangerous and not kept under proper control, it may make an order for it to be controlled or destroyed. The Animals Act 1971 provides that the keeper of an animal is liable for any damage it causes, if he knows it was likely to cause such damage or injury unrestrained. Using the legislation Section 3(5) of the 1991 Act clarifies the application of the Dogs Act 1871. The strength of the 1871 Act is that as it is not part of the criminal law, it operates on a lower standard of proof and proceedings can be taken even when a criminal offence has not been committed. It provides a remedy in a wide range of circumstances for the destruction, or imposition of controls, on dangerous dogs. A particular advantage of the 1871 Act is the fact that it applies everywhere, even in and around a private house which is why it is particularly appropriate for action on behalf of people such as postmen and women who are regularly at risk from dogs in front gardens. Section 3(5)(b) of the 1991 Act enables a court to make an order under the 1871 Act that a dog is in future muzLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

American Bulldogs are not covered by the DDA as a banned breed. Pit bulls or pit bull types are. So is your own dog, regardless of it's breed, if it acts in a dangerous manner. If these dogs were out of control of the owner and caused damage, usually to a person (a person... not a dog) then they can be deemed dangerous dogs. You would also more than likely need a witness to confirm this and evidence of who all 5 dogs were and the owner/person in control/out of control of them. This is the relevant part of the DDA: If a dog is dangerously out of control in a public place - then the owner or the person in charge of the dog is guilty of an offence, or, if the dog while so out of control injures any person, an aggravated offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. In proceedings against a person who is the owner of a dog but at the material time was not in charge of it, it should be a defence for the accused to prove that the dog was at the material time in the charge of a person whom he reasonably believed to be a fit and proper person to be in charge of it. Section 10(2) of the 1991 Act defines a public place as meaning any street, road or other place to which the public have, or are permitted to have access. This is a wide definition of a public place and one which specifically includes the common parts of a building containing two or more dwellings. It is intended to cover, for instance, those parts of a block of flats where, although there may be a secure front entry door so that the interior of the flat is not a place to which the public has unrestricted access, nevertheless the common parts are, in all other respects, a public place. to be continued...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Do we know how injured this dog was? I would imagine that if she is hurt, she will lie low and try to make her way home. Owners need to check bushes, gardens, sheds, outbuildings. Flood the area with posters and make sure everyone knows about this girl. Time is of the essence here I think. If she is severely shocked, she needs to be found asap. Keeping everything crossed for this little girl. Concentrate on the search and once she is home and OK then tackle the situation re the dogs attacking her. Good luck xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well if you saw ours when they are playing there is no way you could call a whippet fragile but FIVE pitbulls would make any dog look fragile. Does Fizz's owner know who these dogs belong to? We once had a terrier walking on a lead when a GSD appeared from around the corner and set about her. We threatened to take the GSD's owners to court when we eventually found them, a policeman by the way, they paid up the day after they were issued with a County Court claim. I do hope the owners do not let this go unchallenged. Candy that was awful what happened to your dog. Hope that Fizz is hiding somewhere and is found very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

what a terrible thing to happen to her it is every owners worst nightmare to have their dog attacked but by 5 pit bulls it defies belief. I am a volunteer with rain rescue in rotherham and if we hear of her we will definately let you know - we are in close contact with all the local rescues in the yorkshire area so will find out if she has been handed in to any of them- please try mount pleasant kennels at hampole doncaster or marina kennels in huddersfield to see if she has been handed in there by a member of the public. Have you tried to see if the sheffield/rotherham star will do a piece or the record/advertiser the more people that know the better and it just may stop this idiot from letting these dangerous dogs off again.
