Still thinking of Fruin - he must be somewhere but I agree it must be very difficult to think what to do next - a lot of dogs who have been away for a long time have been reunited lately - I do hope Fruin is back with you soon Rx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Hannah for adding Fruin to your Forum. Hi Yvonne, I am not giving up hope, but wish I could think of something else I could do to try and find him. I have lots of impulses and resolutions in the middle of the night when I wake up and worry about him, but in the light of day feel that they would be useless. The local petshop have been great in putting up a notice and chatting with me about it. Anyway, I really hope you find Gringo too, I agree Fruin is too distinctive to hide forever. Keep in touch. Kind regards John P.S> There very few Patterdales around here, mostly Staff's.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Any news yet? don'y give up hope John- Gringo went missing in Feb & like you we have not heard a word-Gringo lived next to farm land & the lambing season had just started so intially we did think of the worst but the farmers had not even seen him-I believe we have not heard anything because someone has found him ( more likely stolen) & kept him- Gringo is not exactly a dog you can hide he is too distinct looking-- he will found try to believe the same about Fruin, hopefully she is with someone- are there lots of Patterdales around? xxxx YvonneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think that is the hardest part - the not knowing. I sympathise with all of you with missing dogs - it must be so difficult. There's still hope that he was found by someone and that the microchip will ultimately bring him back to you - I really hope so. I'm always thinking about him and really hope you get him back soon. Thanks Roz, I gave the lady a call, but she says that this one is not chipped, so it is probably not Fruin unless the chip is not working. I said she should keep in touch if an owner is not found. Went up to Hampstead again today, and looked about as ever; all the holes he could have gone down seem disused and full of leaves now, so no recent activity. Maybe he did die down there after all, killed by a badger protecting its winter burrow. Not sure if I will ever know. Cheers for the support John xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi all, I still have not heard any news of Fruin. I done a mail out of my poster to all Vets, Pet Shops and Rescue centres in the area, and have re-run my advertisement in Ham and High with and increased reward. I also had a wind up call today from some kids, who had seen my poster, they rung off pretty quickly after starting to giggle in mid sentence. Number witheld. Idiots. On a good note we have had a great weeks holiday in Cornwall with my other Patterdale Tryfan. So dog friendly down there. I can recommend The Mill House near Tintagel as a wonderful place to stay with the dog. All the best and thanks for your support. regards JohnLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes Candy it must be the most distressing feeling almost as though you're going mad and that they never existed - I think it's worse that the worst happening if you know what I mean because you are stuck in limbo. I do hope Fruin returns safely very soon. Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

John, so many people on this site who have lost dogs have that same feeling that their dogs have just vanished into thin air. It is so bewildering. Really hope you get good news on Fruin soon. Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm glad you've put an ad in John - it IS so perculiar how dogs just seem to vanish and I know it must be very distressing - I hope you hear some good news very soon. Come home safely Fruin! Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I have placed an Ad with Ham and High for this Friday. I have also followed Candy's advice and tried the tube down the hole and a few others in the area. Nothing I'm afraid. Patience, I know, but he has just dissapeared into thin air!. Sad, very sad. Thanks again all for you help. JohnLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You could try placing a plastic pipe or hose pipe down the hole a couple of feet and put the other end to your ear, you may be able to hear if a dog is stuck down there. I know it sounds a bit daft but we have done it before, it's amazing how much better you can hear especially if you block your other ear up. Just do it in daylight and be careful, angry badgers are not what you want coming out of the hole. Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

John, Have you been on to the Ham & High ? They aren't really a lost dog sort of paper, but it's worth a try.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Candy for your advice, took my other dog up on Thursday morning and spent three hours digging in and around the hole. With lead and belt extension, I think Tryfan went in about 8 or 10 feet, pulling back sand with him every time he came toward the entrance. He greally tried hard and I am very proud of him. Unfortunately, we heard nothing from inside the hole and Fruin did not reappear. Tryfan did smell a bit of Badger after he came out and today there was a definate badgery smell at the hole entrance (not Fox i think) So he may just have been after the Badger. Still we tried, and I think i have exausted this avenue now. I printed some more posters and have been giving them to people and putting them up in a wider area, and I am placing an ad in the paper next week. All i think I can do now is keep going back to the place I lost him and wait. Thank lori, I will give you a call. John Thanks Lori, i will give you a callLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Candy's advice sounds very good if you haven't already done this - but please don't let the other dog off the lead. Hope Fruin is back safely very soon. RxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My dog was stolen in N7 and I'm looking hard in North London. Perhaps we could co-ordinate on vets. I'm not sure if you think this would be any use to you, but my dog is bound to have to go to the vet soon, hence this focus. You could piggy back on my efforts if you like... take your other dog out to the badger hole and listen carefully for Fruin. Keep your other dog on a lead though as you don;t want him to go down. Maybe he is stuck down there. Worth trying. Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't give up hope it hasn't been THAT long in dog lost terms but I know it seems like an eternity to you. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this but keep postering and re-visiting the place where he went missing and I'm hoping you will have him back safely soon Rx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Fruin is still missing. I have put posters everywhere I can think of, and approach lots of dog walkers in the area and given them a poster. We have had no calls and no sightings, he has just dissapeared into thin air. Wondering now whether he met a nasty badger down the hole he was investigating with our other Patterdale Tryfan. We miss him terribly he was such a lively communicative dog, and made us laugh so much with his noises and expressions. He has been through a lot with me and I would do anything to have him back safe. This was alway my worst nightmare and I can't believe it has come true. thanks for all your messages of support. What a gorgeous boy! Dogs who go missing while out on a walk often return to where they last saw their owners. Please check the area regularly, he may well still be in the immediate vicinity! Stay safe Fruin until you get home!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm sure the owners will have looked down any rabbit holes in the area if there are any but thought I'd mention it just the same. Patterdales are so naughty when it comes to holes and very feisty when there are badgers down them. Hope Fruin is found soon. Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
