- How very sad that when STAR had someone who truly cared and tried so very hard to help him that the unthinkable should happen. Lozza you went above and beyond to help this lad after so many years alone and one day you will meet up again and this time he will run to you and say thank you.
RIP Star and bless you Lozza for caring. - 2013-07-11 14:07 Moocher

- Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

- i rang back this morning an it was deff a border collie, i explained how i had been trying so hard to catch him and the bond i felt i had with star, i am so gratefull for everybody on here for the amound of support and love shown i cant thank u all enough x i am allowed to have star burried in my own garden he is getting dropped off here between 1 and 2 by 2 lovely council men who understand i need him close to me. xxx
- 2013-07-09 08:11 Nora
- Lozza, I hope you are ok, I cried my self to sleep last night, and I did not even know him like you did.
Perhaps Springermad might be right, perhaps if it is not too hard for you, you could ring the council back and ask if he was a border collie, i also thinks he looks like he has a bit of springer spaniel in him, and if he was wearing the same collar, or you could give Doglost the number to ring for you, if that is ok with Doglost, this also might give you some closure if it was star, you seem to be a very kind and sensitive soul and i wonder if you will forever looking and just hoping it wasn't star.
It is possible may have been another B&W dog around, either roaming or just got out, it is not a uncommon colour.Last edited: 2013-07-09 09:29:28 by Nora - 2013-07-09 06:46 SpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
- Lozza - Did they actually say it was a border collie? Or just a black and white dog? I think they need to give you a bit more info, as you cannot be 100 percent this is star just from that description? Hope you are ok x
- 2013-07-09 02:47 Carol
- I have been thinking if star was knocked down on Friday that was the 5th u last saw him on the 1st so where was he from the 1st to the 5th I have a feeling this may not be star that was in the RTA keep looking for him incase xxxxx

- was extreemly weird last night tho me and my partner walked my dog gena in the park at about 10 and we seen a brown terrier dog roaming the park on its own a female so mabe shes in heat and hes hiding close by, the dog had a collar and tag so she must of escaped, she neither would cum near us and ran off xxx
- 2013-07-07 15:05 lozza
- thanks for the possitive comments :) x well when i moved in here nora he was very very thin, but then seemed to have put on a little, ive asked around here and no body seems to have seen him either, but you are right he knows shildon well, i was thinking mabe someone else has been feeding him or yeah its more likely hes found girl doggie in heat lol, xxx
- 2013-07-07 10:57 Nora
- Lozza, how skinny is he?
- 2013-07-07 10:55 Nora
- He has been around for over 4 yrs now and knows the area very well, and as he has stayed in the same area all this time he is probably still about, there could be a few reasons you haven't seen him, he could have a neglectful owner that is keeping him in (so he does need a nice mum) or as suggested, there could be a bitch on heat that has distracted him, or someone else might be feeding him (perhaps he is a player lol)
Borders are very intelligent, he will remember you, I am sure you will see him again soon, so stay positive xx - 2013-07-06 22:57 Carol
- Awwwww Lozza he will come back I have every faith in him perhaps he has found a bitch on heat, cos my dog doesn't want to know us if there is a bitch on heat int the park ha ha , so don't worry just keep us up to date cos I am so worried about star as its hot now but they say a dog will always find water :-) xxxxxLast edited: 2013-07-06 22:59:37 by Carol

- I wish I was nearer to come and help.
Don't get to upset, try to stay positive, I am sure he is ok, when the weather picks up I am sure he will be out and about again.
when a decent meal has been so few and far between, and doesn't know when his next meal will be, his tummy food clock doesn't work too well, when we are used to regular meals at certain times, we always get start to get hungry shortly before, we have conditioned ourselves to, I expect he has lost this conditioning, but when the weather perks up, i expect he will start thinking "about that nice kind lady with the yummy food" - 2013-07-03 09:19 lozza
- im beside myself, ive not seen star and the food hasnt been touched again either, i was out most of the day yesterday looking for him and again thru the night, ive rang cat and dog shelters just incase he had been picked up but they havent picked up a collie recently. im using my phone to update on here and im at the track as i type but still no sign x
- 2013-07-03 09:01 Carol

- 2013-07-02 18:58 lozza
- yeah your right nora, he prob knows so many hidey places thatl keep him dry, xxx
- 2013-07-02 18:18 Nora
- Don't worry he has survived this long, they are very intellect and have good memories, I expect he will be back.
as the weather is a bit miserable, he may be curled up asleep somewhere dry, he has had a good meal, his stomach has probably shrunk, and he is not used to regular meals. - 2013-07-02 11:36 Timmy's Mummy
- Or even sausage xxx
- 2013-07-02 11:35 lozza
- good idea timmys mummy i will do that thank you xxx
- 2013-07-02 11:29 Timmy's Mummy
- I expect the food he has had will have filled him up for a few days. Maybe he has worms and needs worming. Next time you are throwing him treats throw bits of 'wormer' dipped in pate. I have to do this for my BC, if I mix them in his food he only licks them clean and puts them on the floor next to his bowl!
- 2013-07-02 10:12 lozza
- i have been really worried, the food hasnt been touched and i didnt see him this morning either, ive been walking the streets asking people if theyd seen him, the weathers not very good so its got me more worried, im going to have another walk around the whole of my area to see if i can spot him xxx

- 2013-07-01 18:33 Julie B
- Lozza you are an Angel and Star - well ..... you go together just perfect. I have been watching this thread unfold and after you didn't see him yesterday I was also concerned. He obviously feels safe around you - and all the time you are feeding him he will stay around. The way he is starting to bond with you makes me feel he will gain your trust completely very soon. I haven't posted until now - but I look forward to seeing your posts on a daily basis and look forward to the day of seeing a pic of him curled up indoors, which I think will be very soon. xxx
- 2013-07-01 18:10 Tobys Mum
- This is wonderful news, what an angel you are Lozza. I wonder if he would use a shallow box placed nearby to sleep in with an old towel/piece of clothing in it, with your scent on it. Is there any where with a bit of cover that you could leave it, somewhere safe & dry but far enough away not to undo the trust you have already gained. If he sleeps on it for several nights that may build up more trust too :-). Well done & thank you for all you are doing xxLast edited: 2013-07-01 22:23:00 by Tobys Mum

- got woken up at 3am by noises coming from the back, i was amazed to see he had eating the food and was playing with the empty bowl, i sat for 45 mins talking quietly so he would get used to my voice, i was chucking treats for him, only a low brick wall stood inbetween us, i am so proud of him for staying close for that long, and watching him play with the food bowl put a smile on my face xxx

- 2013-06-30 11:59 Nora
- That is very encouraging lozza, he is starting to trust you, and is coming nearer, BC's are incredibly intelligent (although I might be a bit biased lol) so I don't think it will be long, he is learning that you are kind and no threat to him, dogs can be very instinctive this way too, my dogs always Suss out the soppy dog lovers pretty quickly and take advantage lol

- Oooh Lozza sounds like he may have picked up on ur scent, wow if he has that would be amazing as you are probably the only one that has shown him kindness I can't wait for the next comment Lozza its on my mind all of the time good luck xxx

- Great to come home and see all the comments.
lozza you can print posters directly from this page, select 'View Poster' just above the comments. If he has been living rough for so long he is not in any immediate danger and is proving he can well look after himself until someone manages to take him in. Great that he is good with other dogs.
Keep up the great work lozza your patience will pay off eventually. x - 2013-06-29 23:08 Tobys Mum
- Donna is Reunited 49243. Have a look at her wonderful story Lozza.......just shows you what can happen with wonderful people like you, dedicated to catching these lovely furbabies. Good luck xx

- Lozza you are an angel, from all us dog lovers who are too far away to help - thank you. You have received lots of good advice and I am sure with time you will build up a bit of trust. I was following the thread of a German Shepherd that was straying for over a year on a rubbish tip. She was eventually caught with the help of a very special man called Ray. The dog was eventually called Donna and Ray adopted her too. This dog is meant for you xx

- Hopefully soon Iozza,
they are lovely dogs, he will probably make a wonderful pet despite his trauma, our BC girl suffers two years of appalling abuse before we rescued her 4 years ago, it took a bit of time and a lot of patience, but she is a love sponge, she is a sweet gentle dogLast edited: 2013-06-29 20:32:13 by Nora - 2013-06-29 18:59 lozza

- lozza you are doing a grand job and will gain his trust. If it is o.k. and the weather is fine I would just sit off somewhere reading a book so he gets used to you being in the area and sees you are no threat to him. Bet once he is in someones care he will be loving. My BC is very much retrieving mad and would fetch a ball on a rope or toy over food any day. We went to a doggy party and while the others were after the food she just wanted someone to through her ball/rope. Even turned chicken away which was offered to her by others as the party.
We are all rooting for you and look forward to seeing a picture of him with you.
Thanks a millions to everyone for showing your support. xxx - 2013-06-29 12:40 Nora
- Poor lad, as a border collie owner I know how intelligent and sensitive these dogs are, he is so lucky you came along, now he has a chance of a good life, his plight will touch many hearts, so I bet a lovely forever home will be found quickly.
Your patience will be rewarded x - 2013-06-29 10:35 Spindle
- Sounds like this is one clever collie. One of the dogs I have dealt with took 13 months to eventually catch. He too was desperate for canine company after some time. Take things slowly, food need to be put down same time every day. If a trap is planned it needs careful planning. If hes been out that long he will be extremely street wise. Good luck with getting him to safety.
- 2013-06-29 10:07 Carol
- Lozza I couldn't sleep last night either , keep up updated at least he will come for food so with a trap he will be caught keep us updated , it makes you want to cry xxxx
- 2013-06-29 09:16 lozza
- its hard to sleep at night as hes on my mind constantly, i just want him to be safe and to have the loving home he deserves x i look at my dog and think he shud have what mine has, a loving home and family, ive had my dog sinse i was 17, shes an old girl now, but i could never imagine her out on the street not even for a night, id die for my dog shes my baby my world, xxx
- 2013-06-29 09:02 lozza
- i seen him again this morning and this time i was armed with a bowl and a tin of dog food, he came closer 2 me but ran off once he ate, he needs a vet as he has a sore on his back end, ive rang neighbour hood warden and the police, the police are going to try again with a trap but they say hes smart, im touched at how many caring ppl there are out there, he has so many old scars on him 2, x
- 2013-06-29 06:30 Nora
- And well done and a big hug for caring enough to help him, it makes me angry that this has been going on for four years until you come along
- 2013-06-29 06:26 Nora
- Would a stray of four years be wearing a collar that appears to fit? especially if he has been a stray for that long and is so thin, mine can never keep a collar that long, they wear them out every couple of years, if it is the puppy, someone else has obviously had him for awhile.
Maybe he is allowed to stray, has a owner who is not bothered, but whatever the reason, this poor boy does need help, food is the way to go to get his trust, he may be frightened because of human abuse, so be careful he might nip, purely out of fear.
And it is still possible it could be Ben.
Good luck x - 2013-06-28 21:40 lozza
- thank you to all, i take pocket full of treats everytime i walk my dog just incase i can entice him to come to me, hes a gorgeous dog but so thin and scared x
