a last massive thanku to everyone for all the rodney love and all the rodney miles and to the doglost folk for creating such a superb resource. yesterday we drove back home early from mum's and rodders raced straight on to his red sofa. he seems his usual (oddball) self and actually shows no signs whatsoever of his intrepid adventure. wish i could say the same, it was a very stressful and sleep deprived experience, but at least with a happy ending, so very lucky...

thanx so much everyone for your messages. it's wonderful to be able to share the good news and i know lots of people have been rooting for rodney. cannot see anywhere how to change his photo right now, so will email to the doglost site folk and ask them to pls update tomorro. just going out for a short walk now with BOTH woofs (woopee) poster hunting. some have already been updated with the good news and others removed, but Rodney's days of Sunbury celebrity are happily over. if anyone sees any posters on their outings, would you please take them down? it's going to be great walking without scanning the horizon and calling, calling...

wow, what a day. a woman called on a mobile this morning to say something like "rodney... here....." but a bad signal meant i couldn't really hear what she was saying and we got cut off. when we did reconnect it turned out the caretaker of sunbury nursing home had found rodney scared and hiding in the corner of a kind of lean-to. racing over there i couldn't really let myself be sure rodney would still be there but he was, sitting bolt upright and OMG, he was ecstatic when he recognised me, bouncing and squealing with excitement and we hugged and hugged. when i let him out of the car back at mum's house he started squealing again and raced round into the garden. for the first hour he didn't stop squeaking and squealing and racing about, licking flo (who was as ever unimpressed) and there was general mayhem. i don't think any of us could quite believe it, but the bizarre thing is he looks really, really well and in fact hardly any different from before. he doesn't seem thinner, and once i'd brushed him, his coat is even still shiny, so he's obviously very resourceful. maybe some of the nursing home folk fed him, who knows? i must go back and say proper thanks and see what else i can find out about the missing 9 days, but today has been a blur and i'm sooo happy but super tired. this has been a really grim time but not without positives. everyone's fantastic support, time and encouragement, the out all hours scanning, searching and postering by the hole in the hedge gang and the uplifting hopefulness and concern from followers here, it would have been unbearable. rodney's a very quirky dog who finds it incredibly difficult to trust people. he's had a fine feast tonight, al fresco, which is a first, obviously what he's used to now! we've been cuddling loads and i'm so happy he's home...

I was so pleased to hear the news from Nikki this morning. See, your little timid boy is probably a lot tougher than you think, having survived in this heat. We shall be raising a celebratory glass or three to Rodney tonight. This news has made my day !!xx

rodney's been found and is back home!!!!!!
still has his lime green collar on and he's a bit dusty and pongy but otherwise he looks well. he hasn't wanted any food other than a few bonios. can't believe it, am so happy and relieved. will share photo and details soon. MASSIVE THANX to everyone x x

We were out last night from 8.30 until 10.00, drove slowly up Halliford road, walked round Halliford Park, drove down through Fordbridge Road to the small car park at the river, walked around there. Back into Halliford Road, panic stricken 3 point turn when I thought I spotted 'something too big to be a fox' cross the road from the horses field to what turned out to be the garages on Green Way but was foxes, drove into the cemetery and round and back again, top of Halliford Road u turned and drove back down - if he is not home this evening, will do similiar again unless you want us to do anything more specific.

Alex don't give up hope.....you need determination and posters and a group of people helping.....check out reunited Maria recently.....nearly 3weeks in a country she had just arrived in....pee at all the sightings....food and water at all sightings......corn flour around food to see if dogs or foxes are taking the food......poster from sightings and work your way outwards and quickly......in this weather dusk and dawn will be more active......good luck!

I don't know the area but have emailed some general instructions to Alex. Rodney was first listed as a south west dog so I noticed him and changed to south east and have been following his page. Alex, you are not to get disheartened, you have some good support, hope there is another sighting soon.

There's a pet shop in Station Rd, Hampton and a noticeboard at Sunbury Cross shopping centre where some posters could go up. I will put them up.

Sorry, didn't manage to do much yesterday but a couple of drive rounds. Will be going over again today though. Also just found out one of OH's golf buddies lives opposite Rodney's escape hatch. Will be talking to them as soon as he is back from golf. As DebbyM says please do not lose hope. It feels like a lifetime but check out the time span of some of the reunited dogs on here - he sure chose the right area to hide out in. We just need to be in the right place at the right time, it has to happen, sooner rather than later please Rodney !

big thanx reggie + scragtag for your support. left my car last night up at the stables secure in their yard but with the side door open and food and water inside so rodders could hop in the back as he loved to do. returned early this morning but no sign of rodders and the food and water were untouched. half expected a car full of a family of foxes or fox poo, but nuthin. in to the second week now and have to wonder whether he'll ever be found????

just spent an hour camped out by the hole in the hedge after traipsing round the horse fields/old golf course/cemetary and the fields at the back of squires. usual calling but as usual no rodney. will try a drive round when it gets darker/cooler but running out of ideas and energy and very fed up...:-(

no news whatsoever today unfortunately, but yesterday two different drivers spotted a dark coloured dog on Halliford Road at the same sort of time c12.30pm and were caring enough to phone. the area, description and way he behaved (ie wouldn't let himself be caught and then shot off) is Rodney to a tee, so pretty sure it was him. great news he's alive and healthy enough to be moving about quite speedily, but not such good news that he disappeared again as quickly as he appeared. we raced straight over there within 15mins of him being seen and covered a good radius of his last appearance/disappearance. yet looking, looking and calling, calling has achieved zip. rob leafletted all the houses which back on to the field he was seen disappearing into as most people weren't in and we also checked all the stables at vicarage farm, asked the building and cemetary guys and pretty much anyone and everyone around. nikki, sam and their greyhounds and i walked the fields by squires later that afternoon and nikki got a bizarre call from someone at the BP garage by kempton park who said a black dog had been running round the forecourt and in and out of the shop the previous day. we managed to speak to one of the guys who'd been working when it happened and after looking at a photo of rodders he said it was a much chunkier dog - maybe a rottweiler. that was a relief as if it had been rodney, he could have gone anywhere from there - hampton court flower show perhaps or back to wiltshire up the M3... in the evening about 8 of us (the hole in the hedge gang) did a strategic sweep of the entire area on foot and bike but no sign of the enfuriatingly elusive rodders. there was no wind and my calling carried all over (sorry neighbourhood). there were fireworks AGAIN at 10pm-ish, but come on rodney, there was plenty of time before then to pop up from wherever you're hiding and make everyone's day/week. felt very dejected by the end of the evening as this was the ideal opportunity to find him and put an end to this miserable and exhausting experience. everyone has been so empathetic and generous with their time and energy and all want a happy outcome. bridie and bob were out late and early on their bikes spinning round the area and i've been back several times to the hole in the hedge today where he was last seen and while the covers with flo, cleo and rodney's familiar scent have moved slightly from where i left them last night, there isn't a whiff of rodders. this is one week on now and today is super hot, but there is plenty of water in that area and lots of cool, shady and secluded places to bed down, so maybe he's ok-ish, apart from probably hungry. i will lurk round that spot later today and check the squires area again as i have a feeling that may be where he was coming from when he was seen yesterday. still hoping to be able to post some good news SOON...

There has been a possible sighting of Rodney earlier this afternoon in Halliford Road. A friend called to say she had seen someone trying to catch a black dog. The dog ran across the road from Squires Garden Centre in front of a car who managed to stop and try to aid in catching him. The terrified dog then ran into the large grazing field of Vicarage Stables closest to Squires (opposite side of road). Immediately contacted Alex who shot straight over there with more help close behind. We have been patrolling the area in surrounding the stables and back towards the old golf course. This has to be Rodney, how many terrified black dogs can be running around Halliford Road and it's the news we have desperately been hoping for. I have walked around mobile homes and park opposite the Bugle in case his path takes him back there. The feeling is that he is hanging around the Stables and Garden Centre area but anyone searching please do still keep eyes open anywhere you are driving/walking/cycling. Come on Rodney, show yourself again. It really is time to come home now !!

just checked back in with petlog who his chip is registered with. they emailed all the vets and rescue centres in a 30mile radius when i first registered him as missing last sunday and they've re-sent the email this morning. rob's off to more taxi firms this morning...

you've been fantastic caz (rodney on the radio!) and thanx so much julie and umneya for spreading the word in ashford. without everyone looking out for rodders i really don't think he'd have a chance, his fearful secretive ways won't help him get fed or find home. saw sam at dusk last night with his big boy greyhound (they've covered a lot of rodney miles and been brilliant). we were on bikes and he was walking on to sunbury island and we talked about how we've all managed to miss one another all week even though lots of rodney spotters have been checking the same areas. lots of young loved up couples were heading down to the river at that time too but no-one has seen rodney. we drove out to donkey meadow and the park opposite the bugle late last night, walked with flo, scanned with torches and called/listened but no rodney squeaks, then few slow circuits of the river road to walton, halliford road, upper halliford, cemetary etc again by car too but saw only foxes, foxes, foxes. finally left the car back in it's familiar spot by around 2am. we've been over and over what rodney would have done that night... i really feel he would have turned up halliford road (he's got a thing about turning right and he'd already done a few right turns to get that far) but by then he would have started to tire and be on the lookout for a safe spot to hide. there are houses set back on a slip road on the right, some with open covered areas adjacent to the house which would look very appealing to him, so i'm going to knock on a few doors there today. then there's the right turn down to the cemetary which is familiar territory but which we've checked countless times and the cemetary guys know all about him. the best place of all is vicarage farm stables (off to the right!). rodney likes horses, there are plenty of water buckets and dark covered areas, but we've been there numerous times and patrolled the whole perimeter calling. surely someone or their dogs would see/sense him there?? just whizzed out to give the bin collection guys a poster and rob visited a few taxi firms yesterday too, anyone who's out and about regularly may just spot him. feel exhausted and very sad. don't want to believe funny slinky rodney's gone and won't ever be found, that would be the worst scenario. he isn't like a 'normal' dog, so the usual rules don't really apply, but i'm hoping instinct will kick in and at least push him to search for water and food, not shrivel up in the bushes somewhere...

They are fab at milk depot, had also been over there. The postmen have been brill too, they also took posters at the sorting office for people calling in for undelivered parcels. Have contacted local radio station Radio Jackie to get an appeal aired as often as they are willing. Saw the back end of a lurcher that looked just like Rodney as I passed our local park in Grovelly Road, slammed on brakes and went into park, sadly not our Rodders but lots more posters handed out to very helpful dog walkers.

thanx loads to everyone for spreading the word and spending time searching. we got out to the milk depot today to ask milkmen to keep a look out on their rounds - they were really helpful, in fact everyone has been. also looked in at virgin active on the avenue to get details to members and staff. encountered more strimming guys and police on push bikes, but no-one's seen rodders. flo and i have just walked sunbury park with nikki and mark and their two gorgeous silvery hounds but not a whiff. not sure what to think now, just hoping for some news... come on rodney, enough's enough...

today's plan is to poster a wider area - shepperton and the edge of walton, just incase, even though the dog behaviourist seemed sure rodney wouldn't keep travelling aimlessly once the original firework threat had passed. have been out late and early, calling, and left the car for the past few nights where i last walked from with him and will continue to for the next few nights. am so grateful for everyone's efforts, vigilance and positive thinking - it really would be hopeless without you. have not had any calls so far, not even from a fruitloop, but who knows, there may be some news today??

kempton park race office were very helpful and have taken leaflets for their groundstaff and will keep lookout. there's a racemeet tonight but they said no planned fireworks - hurrah! sunbury golfcourse postered and spoke to grasscutting tractor driver at upper halliford park who will keep lookout. he's doing all the greenspaces in the area in the next few days, including cutting swathes through longer grass. we borrowed a friend's small boat this morning and scanned/called along riverbank from magpie to the creek. lots of good hiding places but no sign of rodders. fishermen haven't seen him, infact no-one's seen him since he first took off. he's either playing his shadowdog invisible trump card and keeping hidden, has been taken in by someone who's fallen for him and wants to hang on to him or ????. guess it's still early days but doesn't feel like it :-(

Bushy Parks Office contacted and poster emailed to them. Very helpful, they will inform Park workers and Police patrol and have all contact numbers. I have also left a message with the Horse Rangers that are from the Stables opposite Bushy Park and sent them an email with poster - explained that Rodney grew up with horses. Hopefully they will alert riders in the Park and now have all contact details.

We too did a foot patrol around lower Sunbury last night, just before fireworks started, covering Rivermead Island, zig sagging through to Halliford Road and then up by golf course. If there are any specific areas you feel need covering at any time just shout otherwise we will continue as we are with posters / searches etc. I believe it's Irish night at Kempton Racecourse tonight so probably be more fireworks at approx. 10pm :(

in spite of everyone's fantastic efforts, sadly still no sign of rodney :-( . after the vicarage farm folk said we could walk their fields yesterday, at dusk onwards we did just that (inc stable areas) and spent several hours on foot calling and calling in and around the old golf club site and upper halliford park. car was left overnight with water and one of his bed covers incase he returned to that familiar spot but there was no sign this morning that he'd been there. i have asked adam for advice this morning - a wiltshire dog behaviourist who has helped me with rodney in the past. he feels rodney would settle somewhere once the first threat had passed and hole up out of sight rather than keep moving or exploring widely, other than for water. fireworks again last night certainly won't be helping lure him out. we're going to poster round shepperton and walton today and check back in with the dog wardens etc just incase.

Just in with Nikki from slow circuit of Linear Park (Hawk Park) into Harfield Road towards River, Rivermead Island, St Marys Church Yard, Halliford Rd, Cemetry, Forge Lane Estate, Green Street and into Croyesdale Irish development (Alex car parked). Sam also about 10 minutes behind us around Rivermead Island area and Green Street (fireworks again tonight!!!) - no trace (plenty of foxes though!) :(

now have some superb maps thanx to nikki and realise just how wide a 5mile radius is. apparently most lost dogs stay within that. a really helpful horse owner got in touch this afternoon to say her dogs have been showing a lot of interest suddenly in particular bushes at vicarage farm so we did what we could to nosey into the brambles etc but sadly no sign or sound from rodders. will return there later this eve just incase as this is so close to where i was walking when rodney took off and it's an area he's very familiar with. milkmen are a great idea caz, thanx. this will be the 4th night rodney's been gone (including the night he disappeared) so he must be getting hungry. only hope he's found enough water. so many posters everywhere thanx to everyone's efforts but so far no real sign of the elusive, fearful rodney. am trying to stay positive and will be leaving my car overnight where we walked from just incase he goes back. a friend who lost her dog for 3 days in unfamiliar territory said they left her husband's shirt where he was last seen and that's how they eventually found him!

I think we may have accosted same strimmers !! Posters going up at all entrances at Bishop Duppas and along Russell Road. Have taken routes Rodney may use when driving around Sunbury and Halliford. I just had a sudden thought ... Milkmen ..... we need to get posters out to their depot as they are out and about so early may well catch a glimmer. Is Jobs Dairy the main depot where they all come from ?? I can get some posters there tomorrow or if anyone spots a Milk float if driving/riding around early enough be sure to pass them a poster.

huge thanx again everyone. we've been out this morning with flo and posters along the river in the other direction from walton. postered sunbury island, rivermead, the launch area with the small car park and the sports centre. have given posters to council guys too who are strimming and grass cutting all round the area today, including shepperton and bishop duppas etc, so hopefully they may spot him lurking somewhere. walked back through footpaths to french street etc and off this afternoon to check the green spaces between school walk and nursery road. have re-stocked with posters. will make more strategic sweep of area tonight when it gets dark - rodney's favourite time of day. tried the local paper, they weren't interested but suggested advertising next week!

More fireworks last night, so not good chance of spotting Rodney out and about. We were told he may have been seen on 'Sunbury Island' so we raced over with Flo and torches hoping to find him. Walked the perimeter calling but no Rodders, only foxes. Drove round again, French Street and the back roads, the river road to Walton, Halliford and the side roads, but no sign. Fantastic postering and help from everyone - you're all amazing. We'll be getting a map and trying to plan where next but it's such a lottery and impossible to tell if he'd stay put or wander further...

Posters placed Desborough Island Walton last night and roads around River Road and Hotel Felix Lane down by river covered by Sam dog walker. I have spoken with the regulars in Sunbury Park this morning all will be looking out for Rodney on their travels around area to dog walking locations.

Posters now done in The Avenue Shops (Raj's DIY, Hairdressers and Post Office), Posters also Sunbury Park entrances, Squires Garden Centre and 'Donkey Meadow' Halliford. Also at Grange Farm Halliford. Vicarage Farm Stables Halliford Road. Search made Woody area at side of Sunbury Park towards River Road and Walled Garden, also disused greenhouses Highfield Road and general Donkey Meadow area - no trace - worth return area visits. Spelthorne Council Park refuse collector spoken to and will pass word on. Dog walkers in general area Lower Sunbury spoken to and posters or contact numbers given out. We and others will be out later tonight in general area of London Irish Development and Linear Park towards French Street.

can't thank everyone who's trying to locate oddball rodney enough. dog wardens, police, battersea etc all informed and put poster in tesco sunbury and asked postman, cemetary, builders at golf course, dogwalkers etc to all keep a lookout. rodders is much more confident when it's dark so we'll be out again overnight, hopefully not waking up too many people by yelling "rodneeeeee". really hoping someone spots him soon...

I have placed posters with Cemetery staff, Homefield Road resident next door to paddock area at end of road, Cafe upper halliford, and Park Homes caretaker - they will all display and be able contact other local and residents.Rodney not yet seen. Local sight hound dog walker Sam contacted and he knows Rodney and is happy to help, we will supply him some posters. He will go out tonight with me when it is cooler with our own sighthounds and look in likely areas around Halliford and Lower Sunbury. Imber Park Kennels Charlton Village contacted and made aware - no sighting or info but will contact me if hears anything. Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare kennels in Hersham contacted and will contact me if any info forthcoming. Local dog walkers in Sunbury park to be alerted and posters in car parks to follow later this afternoon.

We were out again in the middle of the night in the car driving down every main and side road around the area he was last seen and ran from but no sign of Rodders. Have lost hope he will find his own way back to the house, so it really is up to someone spotting him from the posters now. Rodney is chipped and Petlog is aware he's missing. Thanx loads to Caz and everyone who's been out trying to spot him and been so supportive...

Still no sign of Rodney, have been searching Sunbury and Upper Halliford areas and parks that he may head to. Owner is going out again tonight as he is more likely to show himself when dark. Hopefully we will be able to get plenty of posters printed tomorrow and raise awareness throughout the neighbourhood. Just a sighting would help to know which area he is hanging around.

Do hope Rodney is found soon, If anyone in the area has any sighthounds might be an idea to walk them in the area as sighthounds like their own kind.

Have passed details to everyone I know in the area and they are doing the same. About to go searching. I know Rodney and he is a very nervous boy so may run if approached by strangers.
