Ann, if you search for the post codes in those areas, it will bring up all the ones that are listed on DogLost. Maybe there would be a pattern there? Police won't always provide a crime number because owner cannot prove dog was stolen; it also depends on the police person attending. Some are more understanding than others regarding dog theft/property theft. I have contacted owner again for update. Kinsally.

Is there any more news on this lovely boy? Saw no posters up along Royal Artillery Way where Blake had been picked up from, is it worth putting some along there in case the driver of the said silver van go's that way again & that Blake is missing & being looked for. Sorry have no printer but will be happy to assist if needed.Last edited: 2013-07-23 20:16:07 by Kinsally

Fern and C.J. - Really glad to hear that you may have the police's ears.
I advised our Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator about the possible problem with dog thefts, particularly in the Leigh-on-Sea/Chalkwell area and she raised it at a meeting. Apparently the police were unaware and felt it might be a case of rumour spreading rather than based on fact, so I was asked by the NWC to check if there were any facts to support the claim.
It may be a catch 22 ie people are not getting a crime number because they feel the police are not interested and the police dont feel there's a problem as there are no dog thefts logged.
I cant support any claims as (thank God) my little darlings haven't been targeted.
We need someone to co-ordinate people who have suffered a theft or felt threatened, with a contact in the police.
Maybe C.J. is the person for this. I'm happy to help if needed.

Thanks CJ. Alerting owners to this. x

owners need to get this information to police. have as much info as possible. Yes it started as a missing dog but was seen being picked up give info of van as much as you can. Given the chance to report as found which is LAW this has not been done this is now THEFT by FINDING.
What proof of sale as well ? police will need all this to act.

Just in case the van was out of area must also make sure not reported as 'found' but failing to give exact location as they know they would then have to return back to correct council area.
Also check a large radius on animal wardens just in case listed as found.

Claire, go all out with the posters - it the best investment! Make Blake too hot to handle. Also, as he was seen being picked up and has not been returned, call the local newspaper and tell them this is a story - they may well run it. Call local radio and tell them - you won't know if they'll help till you try. Keep going - you can do it! x (Fern/Jodie, is your dog on this site?)

Hi there, I am sorry to hear that your dog has been stolen. If you are interested, we are forming a group to have a meeting with police officers covering the south east to highlight the fact that dog theft in our area is a problem. My dog was stolen in April and it has been hard to get the support of the authorities. Please contact me at jodie.coller@ntlworld.com if you would like to be involved. Best wishes Jodie

Well at least we know that Blake is safe...In our experience people who stop traffic and risk themselves are usually fellow dog owners...being in a car they may be from outside the area and will hopefully be ringing the dog warden this morning...so do ring around surrounding dog warden areas.

There was a very similar dog found KINGSTHORPE this weekend - a long way from Essex but you never know Doglost 54662

Bumped due to sighting and in the hope that Blake had been handed in. Owner must call dog warden urgently.

Okay, well done! I am so hoping that this dog will be with the dog warden come tomorrow (Monday) as sometimes they do no work weekends. However, if not, then owner MUST call police and obtain a crime number because this will sadly mean the dog has been stolen. I have not heard from owner, so if anyone of us gets a reply, please post it on here. Thank you so much. Everything crossed for tomorrow morning. x
Kinsally
Could the owner contact the local papers & police with this information that Blake has been picked up but not reported as found & maybe being offered for sale? Fingers crossed they will do the right thing tomorrow & contact the dog warden. Posters are now vital as needs to be made 'To hot to handle' is there anyone putting them up? I am willing to help but have no printer. Sharing & circulating on twitter that Blake is now presumed stolen. Last edited: 2013-07-14 22:03:59 by Kinsally

Sorry to see that BLAKE is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (54632)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
