Walked this route again today, met a lady who I see often, asked her if she'd seen the dog. Apparently it went missing from Titchfield, about 3 miles away, on the day I'd spotted it, and one of the owner's sons found it on Saturday at the caravan park. It got spooked by a cow in a field, ran off and the owner couldn't find it - it had headed down fields and along the shoreline by the sound of it, but the lady was sure it had been reunited with it's family.
