UPDATE message posted on my fb page today:

Our dog Joe was lost and found on here a month ago. We bought a Retrieva GPS dog collar. On Monday, a balloon flew over and he went mad barking and jumping as he always does. Despite being shut in the garden and I was around, he managed to get out and ran off. We were on his case within minutes. Had to remember how to use the collar which took us several minutes as this was the first time of active use. Longish story but the collar took us to his exact location, in a totally overgrown stream, that you couldn't see, only hear, and he was sort of down a culvert. No one walks or goes there. He seemed stuck. Very unlikely he'd be found. We heard the water move, then a slight whimper. My husband had to climb over a fence and get through all the brambles etc to pull him out. What a stupid dog, but what a fantastic piece of technology round his neck. It told us he set off at 16kph, then slowed to 2kph, then for about an hour, 0kph. We thought it wasn't working as he wasn't moving. It was going dark and he was sort of stuck there. Highly recommend.

We are so grateful to the moral and practical support given by doglost. This has the obvious knock on effect of great dog loving people giving us support. Can't express enough how grateful we are. We really thought that someone had taken him. I walked miles yesterday putting up posters but this vast area of wood and wild ground near us worried me. I thought that if he was there, no one would see him. I shouted for him so loudly yesterday at the exact spot he was found and my daughter and husband did the same the day before.
Not eaten properly for days but had a good BBQ tonight, very late, with sausages for Joe.

UPDATE from his mum: WE'VE FOUND JOE THE ROTTWEILER. HE WAS RIGHT WHERE I WALKED AND SHOUTED MY HEAD OFF YESTERDAY. LEFT A POSTER IN A FARM HOUSE AND THE FARMER FOUND HIM IN A WOOD BEHIND A FENCE, UNABLE TO GET OUT. MASSIVE AREA AND I COMMENTED THAT IF HE WAS IN THERE NO ONE WOULD FIND HIM. LET LIFE BEGIN AGAIN. There was one randomly walking round rochdale town centre exactly like this .... Sorry its a little vague but worth ringing rochdale rspca. It was on Sunday as it came into Aldi on Sandbrook park, and i grabbed the blue colour to take it back out! X

Owner's are doing a fantastic job in their search and have contacted a lot of people already and are putting laminated posters up. Joe's microchip is up to date, he did have a collar on with their telephone number on. He has gone missing from home, it is out of character for him to wander and not come back.

Have gone through some more things to do and will send info/advice email along with Scenting Instructions.

Owner is going to send more photo/s so can do a group photo and start sharing. Owner said a lot of people are already aware of him missing.

I've updated the details and added another contact number.

This looks like the comment on 'Dogs in Salford' re the found in Leigh as that is where Salford DW take their dogs. The date of the post is 10.07.13 so if missing date is correct for Joe found was before he went missing:
