Amazing story-how lucky was that! You have a watertight case now for theft and fraud too. The man who took Dusty will do it all over again and soon -it is so easy and they almost never get caught. The police can now get all the evidence from the person who bought her, plus the computer/seller's ID from the Gumtree ad,check CCTV from the time she was stolen at the shops and nick him! His photo in the paper for dog theft will alert everyone -and might lead to some more dogs being recovered....
I love the new photo- you really did so much work to get Dusty back-and she's now safe home, back where she belongs. Well done you -and your fella for spotting her...nice one!

UPDATE from Claire posted on her fb page:

yes we were going to dogs home and my fella spotted a young guy walking with her another dog and a kiddie. we just stopped and i shouted her she wasnt on a lead.. she came running over...i had to check her markings a few times as i couldnt believe it at all !!! had 30 odd posters in the car to put up.. he was really nice i gave him a poster. His mum had bought her off gumtree last week.. we exchanged numbers and i rang them when we got home. his mum was to upset/angry to talk to me (not angry at me).

There is a dog currently at Leigh Cats and Dogs Home that is very similar to Dusty and is definitely worth checking out. If you go to this page

http://leighdogsandcatshome.co.uk/straydogphotos.html

Play through the strays and its reference Wigan 517.

Will alert clairandco to the photos, fingers crossed.

I just looked on facebook.www.facebook.com/ivor.lostadog & couldn't find anything about Dusty sadly. I bet he's still somewhere in South Manchester-have you tried putting up posters in Chorlton, too? The RSPCA shop would probably let you put a poster up for her.
claireandco
thankyou all. i do have facebook where do i look ?
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thanks, I've had a look and don't think the markings quite match. Dusty has a tan strip that comes down the centre of her head whereas the found just has the broad white markings, if this makes sense. Also the found has a few too many spots at the side of its nose to be Dusty :(

clairenadco, do you have access to Facebook to have a look?
winniepig
This may sound odd but a lady has just posted a photo of a dog like this found in Eccleshill 59 minutes away by car. It has been posted to by own facebook wall post so if anyone can check it please feel free to look and see if it matches Dusty
I am Sheza Lost Dog Jayne Head office may be able to do this please.

Sorry to hear about this - poster everywhere -good photo- have put on our ckcs forums. Hope she is reuinted soon.

You need to plaster Merseybank with posters too- Facebook is good, but not everyone is on Facebook, esp.lots of older people & children-who really do notice everything that's going on. Put posters on every single street on the estate. If the camera was the wrong way there might be CCTV from inside the shop too. Get onto the police to see what they are actually doing-there are a few families on the estate who might be more liable than others to do this-have they checked them out? Facebook is good but posters are the absolute gold standard for getting your dog back-that and keeping in touch with the dogs home in case she's dumped then found. The local n'er -do wells need to fell really uncomfortable & know they are under intense scrutiny to get this dog back, otherwise they will just ride it out. Keep your lovely dog in the local spotlight to make sure everyone is talking about her, till you get Dusty back. There's a lot of dog lovers in and around who are rooting for you-fingers crossed for her safe return very very soon.Last edited: 2013-08-12 20:12:08 by doggo

thankyou.have reported to police. cctv camera was facing the wrong way. have some posters up and facebook is plastered with info about her.

Sorry to say this has happened before on Merseybank.Report it to the police as theft. Go to all the shops-some have CCTV,see if you can get a good description/details. Plaster the place with posters and ask everybody you see if they saw him with the dog, which way he went and who with. Make sure to ask children-they really notice much more than adults- and on Merseybank there's a good chance he is either local or has very local connections.Find out if the dog was taken into/tied up outside a house, when and for how long, and if was she taken from there and by who.You need to find out who did it fast. He will try to sell the dog on-check free ads (Gumtree vivastreet, preloved etc.)Plaster all round Merseybank -esp shops, plus Co-op & MacDonalds on Princess Rd, too, lampposts too.. Plaster Barlow Moor estate too, including the shops on Hardy Lane, and Nell Lane too, as well as round Chorlton park & the water park & the local pubs especially in Chorlton -do Tillie's first on Barlow Moor Rd (opposite the cemetery), put a poster in Etchells newsagents by the arch ,then start with the Royal Oak,then Wetherspoons, then the rest. Poster MacDonald's and Tesco's too on Barlow Moor Rd. Make Dusty too hot to handle but act fast. Fingers very much crossed for Dusty's safe return very soon.
