- What a lovely update.Just s glad Barnaby came home safe and sound - typical Border to be swayed by his stomach.
- 2013-11-25 22:26 qdshayes
- It's hard to believe, but it's now 6 days since Barnaby came home and he's settling back in well. There's no denying that he was carrying a little extra weight when he went missing and we're grateful for that now because he lost nearly a stone in weight over the 30 days that he was lost in the wild. He's putting some weight back on now but it'll take a while before he builds the muscle back up that he's lost.
It's wonderful that we have him back and I'm so grateful for all the help and support we've had from all the wonderful people who have recognised the anguish we've been through and the plight of our little man. It really is because of the profile we created for Barnaby that he was recovered and I shall be eternally grateful to Jo Miller and his son Levi for taking the time and putting the effort into catching Barnaby last week and ensuring he was returned to us. He's always been a stomach-led animal and it was a bacon sandwich which finally got him down off the cliff.
I really want to thank everyone at Range Control on Lulworth Camp as well, they've put up with a lot from me and shown great patience when I've been on the phone for the umpteenth time reminding them that Barnaby's still missing and probably still on their patch. Lt Colonel Ken Davies was chuffed to bits to be able to reunite us with the now skinny little man and, being a Border Terrier owner himself understood the emotions we've been through.
The Doglost website is a great resource that I was unaware of before Sue Bland directed me here. I'm so grateful to her and all the other people who have put themselves out for Barnaby and us. In no particular order, thank you to Sharon, Janice, Ellie, Gina, Sue (Rolls), Billa and everyone else who has been following Barnaby's adventure.
We are going to have a small get together at the Weld Arms in East Lulworth on Wednesday evening (27th November) where the staff have been so kind and comforted us at the end of so many days when we've been out searching for Barnaby. If anyone would like to join us then please drop me a text, it would be lovely to be able to say thank you in person.
The end of an extraordinarily painful, but thankfully very happily resolved adventure for one lucky Border Terrier. Thank you all.Last edited: 2013-11-25 22:31:14 by qdshayes - 2013-11-20 09:35 KKelly

Good to see the Bournemouth Echo have run the appeal. Fingers crossed. - 2013-11-15 17:44 Lin-D
- I've just seen the appeal for Barnaby on the Bournemouth Echo website.

- Well done for clearing up the mystery but such a shame there is still no news of Barnaby. Bumping his page due to the Echo appeal.
- 2013-11-15 14:45 qdshayes
- I have now heard from the Police that the dog caught on Saturday evening last week was not Barnaby and that it was successfully reunited with its owner.
Which means that there are still no reported sightings of the little man since I last saw him on Whiteway Hill. Thank you Sue for reminding us that the Ranges are closed this weekend, I'd forgotten that. I have to say that I'd hoped he would be home by now. However, we're not giving up hope and the Dorset Echo have kindly put an appeal in the paper today for me. I don't know if the Bournemouth Echo have or not, but I'm hoping so. - 2013-11-15 12:14 SueB
- Just been told that the Lulworth Ranges are totally closed this weekend
- 2013-11-14 16:09 qdshayes
- Thank you Sue, that's just the job. It's great to keep the local area aware that we're still looking.

- All power to you for your investigations Q.
I Had an unexpected afternoon off from Creech as phones down so went along the route from Creech to Whiteway, (Had a chat with a Range Warden there) lulworth, past Lulworth Stables, Coombe Keynes, to Wool checking posters and renewing where required. on the ones that are ok I put 'Still Missing' across them.
I do hope the Echo and Countryman adverts do the trick. Fingers crossed.
Barnaby I know full well that Borders are rather stubborn little critters but enough is enough now, come on out and show yourself! - 2013-11-13 20:36 qdshayes
- I don't have any positive news to report I'm afraid. I'm grateful to the Dog Wardens for acknowledging and confirming that they haven't been informed of, or picked up the dog that was caught on Saturday evening. I have had extensive discussions with the police over the issue and we are still trying to establish which officer was involved and what happened to the dog after it was last seen in the back of his car.
Meanwhile, I have spoken to the Dorset Echo and Bournemouth Echo. The Dorset Echo have agreed to put an appeal in the paper for me and the Bournemouth Echo said they would see what they can do. I'm grateful for the advert in Countryman's Weekly, thank you Sue.
We're not giving up yet. Q - 2013-11-13 15:48 Springer sharon
- The mystery continues. Knowing how tenacious you are Quentin, if there is one person who will get to the bottom of it then its you. In the meantime grateful thanks to the dog warden for all your efforts and bringing some clarity to this distressing situation
- 2013-11-13 14:35 WDDC Dog Warden
- Hi All, I am just wanting to confirm that over the weekend the only call our OOH's team received regarding a stray dog was on Sunday 10th concerning a staffordshire bull terrier, found in Weymouth and later reunited with it's owner. We have received no information relating to a stray dog in the Monkton Hill Area, i have even phoned known repeat offenders in the area to check if any of their dogs went wandering on staurday night and returned home via the police or a member of the public. My colleagues and i are all aware of Barnaby and will obviously be in touch with Quentin or Dog Lost should information come to light xx
- 2013-11-13 09:10 B30
- Advertised in this weeks Countryman's Weekly magazine. I hope it brings some news.
- 2013-11-13 06:32 Inkie's Mum
- I am sure you have done all you can Q to try and find this dog picked up, must be so frustrating not actually knowing if it was Barnaby. Perhaps pestering the local police may bring results, if the policeman who picked him up has been off-duty and not logged what happened, he may come back on duty and get the information that you are trying to locate Barnaby or the dog if not just to rule it out
- 2013-11-12 23:51 Gnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
- Saddening and frustrating to hear the latest news .... I hope the authorities can come up with the evidence we need to determine where they took the dog they did pick up. Whatever the outcome we need to determine whether it wasn't B or not ......sorry Q, this must be so frustrating for you xx
- 2013-11-12 22:49 Poochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
- How difficult is it for the authorities to log a found dog? Surely all that is needed is a standard form similar to our description box, relevant details, where found, sex, breed, where dog taken and by who. Failing that, all dog wardens in the area have been given my contact details in the past, they can phone the details to me at any time or log them here, they are registered so could easily do this. As for the police, we all know they no longer take in strays but in this case the dog was at risk of causing an accident on a busy road. We have had help in the past but it seems to depend on the individual as to how prepared they are to record all the details and follow up what might have happened to the dog.
Would a call to Wessex FM bring more information? All this happened early on a busy evening with several witnesses. Wherever this dog went he needs a thorough full body scan as his own vet had trouble finding Barnaby's chip when he was last scanned. - 2013-11-12 18:31 qdshayes
- Ok, there's a mystery going on here. After a lot more digging, I have finally had it confirmed that NO dog was picked up from Dorchester Police Station on Saturday evening by the duty dog warden. The Staffordshire Terrier I had been informed it was is a different dog from the one caught on Saturday and was picked up on a different day, in a different place. No other dogs, that could be connected with the dog seen on Saturday evening, are reported as having been dealt with by the Warden.
It is currently a mystery what happened to the dog that was last seen on the back seat of a Police car on the A354 Monkton Hill, just outside Dorchester, at around 7.30pm on Saturday 9th Novemeber. The members of the public who helped catch it and put it there describe it as a terrier that, having seen pictures of Barnaby, could be him.
I have no idea if it is him of course and, frustratingly, no idea what happened to this dog after that. The Police have recorded the incident and are investigating it for me.
There have been no reported sightings of a Terrier on the loose in the area since then, that I am aware of.
As I say, I don't know whose dog I'm chasing here but I will do my best to find out what happened to it. Meanwhile, I will also keep up the search for Barnaby in the Purbeck area and am grateful to those who are still helping with that. Thank you so much. - 2013-11-12 11:29 qdshayes
- I'm aware from some of the messages I've received, that there are conflicting reports circulating about whether Barnaby has been found. Sadly, he hasn't and I would be very grateful if we can spread the word that he is still missing and that we very much are still looking for him.
Thank you. - 2013-11-12 11:01 qdshayes
- After a ridiculous amount of chasing of people, it appears that the dog which got picked up on Saturday was a Staffordshire Terrier and not Barnaby. Hopefully it's been reunited with its owner by now.
- 2013-11-12 08:14 Springer sharon
- Could feel the frustration in your voice when we spoke last night. Stay patient, stay positive. He's out there somewhere and no one will give up until he's found.
- 2013-11-12 08:06 Jessbenem
- How upsetting, to feel so close to a possible great outcome. Is it worth trying Margaret Green on way to Dorchester. I don't quite know how police/dog warden/ rescue centres work , don't know if they keep updated with lost dogs. Do hope something can be found out for definite.xx
- 2013-11-12 07:27 SueB
- what a confusing and very frustrating puzzle - I totally understand your reserve and why you are not getting to hyped up about the sighting. The disappointment on finding out the last time was a false alarm was horrid but hopefully Poochpal can help you get to the bottom of this ..................... I'm still keeping everything crossed and looking forward to the homecoming party. xx

- How frustrating for you. I will see what I can find out, I think it was the Weymouth & Portland out of hours service who would have collected the one from Dorchester station.
I have bumped Barnaby's page in the hope others may have more information. - 2013-11-11 20:37 EllieBT
- Hope you soon get this sorted out soon. Will check back in the morning and see if any help can be given.
- 2013-11-11 19:43 qdshayes
- I'm not sure of exactly what the story is here. I have a really helpful chap telling me that a dog, that could be Barnaby, was caught and last seen on the back seat of a police car on Saturday evening. The Police log says that two officers went to the scene of the reported sighting and looked but saw nothing so came away. Currently it's a mystery as to who the officer was who had the dog in the back of his car. However, the Police have told me that WDDC have confirmed that they did pick up a dog from Dorchester Police station on Saturday evening. But I've spoken to the Dog Warden today and they said they know nothing about it.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to do anything else now until everyone goes back to work in the morning.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up because if it was Barnaby, then I assume I would have been contacted by now as this dog apparently had a collar and tag on adn B is chipped so it would be easy enough to trace me which no one has. I'll update the the site when I have any news.
Thanks again for everyone's continued support. Quentin.Last edited: 2013-11-11 19:45:01 by qdshayes - 2013-11-11 18:37 Poochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
- qdshayes, please can you call the Dorset Echo office and Wessex FM again to have a fresh appeal following this sighting. It's such a shame that it was not reported until today. Where exactly was the sighting?
- 2013-11-11 13:31 SueB
- !!!!! any news?
I have phoned and emailed Barnaby's details and poster to Weymouth Vets that came up on Google.
Chewing my fingers to the knuckles praying for news Sue xxx - 2013-11-11 11:20 qdshayes
- I have had a call this morning saying that a Terrier type dog, apparently with a blue collar on, was seen running along the Dorchester to Weymouth relief road on Saturday evening at around 6.30pm. The police were called and attended but were unable to find the dog. The person who reported it has since been shown a picture of Barnaby and said that if he had to describe the dog it would be like the picture of Barnaby.
- 2013-11-10 20:23 qdshayes
- Hi Sharon. Yes, it's incredibly frustrating. Your continued help is very much appreciated though.
Refreshing posters could prove very valuable.
I'm going to look at placing some advertisements in the papers, to increase the number of those aware, but also to encourage anyone who might have him to get in touch. - 2013-11-10 19:02 Springer sharon
- It's so frustrating! I think it's an excellent idea to update the posters. Can go out on Tuesday morning. So sorry it's drawn a blank again
- 2013-11-10 18:54 qdshayes
- Thanks Sue. Qxx
- 2013-11-10 18:43 SueB
- I can tweek some to have a flash across them saying Still Missing. I am trying to keep a log of where I have put them all so I can take them down when B is found. I will do the Swanage vets and pet shops first. Take care Sue xx
- 2013-11-10 18:31 qdshayes
- Hi Sue, I haven't been as far as Swanage as yet. The two or three posters that I realised have gone were in more remote places and I've replaced the ones I think are most visible. My concern is that as time passes, people might think that the search is over and dismiss, or remove them. If we find B then I shall be going round taking them all down myself but for now I'd really like to keep them in front of as many people as possible.
- 2013-11-10 18:08 SueB
- Sorry to hear you had no luck in the undercliff area today Q. I have printed and laminated more posters so if you want me to replace any particular ones please just say. I was thinking that I should try and get some info out in the Swanage area but I am not sure if it has been done already.
- 2013-11-10 17:57 qdshayes
- Thank you Janice and thank you Lin. We've been back in the Kimmeridge, Creech, Tyneham, East Lulworth area today. Searched, as far as is possible, the undercliff area South of Tyneham where there are plenty of deer but no dog. Replaced a couple of posters but see that a couple of others have been pulled down so I do want to try to make sure they stay up for a while longer yet.
- 2013-11-10 16:45 Lin-D
- We've had another look around Corfe common this afternoon. There was no sign of Barnaby, but we'll keep looking in case he makes his way there.

- Was unable to join you this weekend and was hoping to find good news here........ Still preying for you Barnaby, show yourself x
- 2013-11-09 22:46 qdshayes
- I was out at first light looking over Whiteway Hill and Tyneham again this morning. No sign there I'm afraid. I'm still wondering whether he might be going back to where he was last seen but there's been no evidence of him there. So, it would be really good to keep his profile up in the area all around.
I replaced a few posters in the Tyneham area that were looking a bit water and wind damaged today. I really want to try to make sure that everyone knows that Barnaby's plight is a current one.
Still, tomorrow's another day. Qx - 2013-11-09 20:16 Springer sharon

- I'm afraid there was no sign of Barnaby on Corfe Common. We walked through the wood at Kingston yesterday, in case he was sheltering from the bad weather there, but couldn't see him anywhere.
- 2013-11-06 20:59 qdshayes
- Thank you Lin, I hope your walk on Corfe Common wasn't too wet and blustery. Your help and the help of all the other very kind volunteers who have put themselves out so much in the search for Barnaby is still very much appreciated.
No reported sightings of Barnaby today sadly, but no bad news received either, which suggests he's still out there somewhere.
Unfortunately, the road up to Whiteway hill was closed today. However, I had another look around the Lulworth to Creech area and saw lots of posters, but no B.
I am grateful for all the continued support in our quest and plead to all the kind people who have tried so hard to help find him to not give up. His brother Ripley is missing his mate and so are we. Q - 2013-11-05 16:42 Lin-D
- I'll have a good look around Corfe common tomorrow.

- Indeed, what a difference a day makes. Back to square one now I'm afraid. What that means is that, although there have been no sightings, it's very possible he's still in the area of East Lulworth and the Ranges. We've got the parts of the area which are available to the public pretty well covered, and the local residents have been very kind in putting Barnaby's picture up on Facebook etc.
So it seems now would be good time to widen the area of awareness. In the past we have done a lot of walking with him in the Corfe Castle/Kingston area and it's possible he might have found his way over there. I also think I should try to make sure Wareham is covered.
Any other suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

- What a difference a day makes - this time yesterday we were elated to think that we had a location to search - but it wasn't Barnaby's turn to have the break we all need to find him. BUT while I was out I talked to a lot of great people, home owners, workers, walkers & horse riders in that area and the local game keeper who are now aware that Barnaby is missing so if he should cross paths with any of them, wherever he/they are at the time, they will make the call that will get Barnaby home.
Quentin I am now wondering if it is worth looking and putting up posters towards Barnabys more usual walks area around Worth and towards Swanage? Q what do you think?
It has got to be Barnaby's turn to be found soon xxLast edited: 2013-11-05 07:51:55 by SueB - 2013-11-04 17:01 Christchurch Dog Warden

- Sorry to hear that the possible sighting of Barnaby at Hyde has been a red herring. I gather the owner of the dog spotted has contacted Q to let him know.
It has however heightened awareness in that area and is still possible he may be making his way home...

- I've been in touch with Wessex fm this morning and hopefully they will be putting out an appeal today as a result of the sighting yesterday. Q
- 2013-11-04 06:34 qdshayes
- If he's heading in a basically straight line then incredibly, that is towards home, but he has a long way to go and major roads to deal with. He's already crossed roads, the railway line and two rivers.
His current trajectory would take him through the Western side of Wareham Forest but as Sue says, that allows little opportunity for scavenging in bins and he's hungry now. The chap whose bins he was going through yesterday says that he was last seen heading towards other houses in the area and towards the forest, but it would be good to cover Bere Regis as well. Come on Barney. - 2013-11-04 00:55 SueB
- I intend to be out first thing Monday morning - will start looking at Golf Club then on through Hyde. I will take posters and a5 size to put in letter boxes.
From Hyde the most direct route of travel would be through the forest tracks but very few houses this route for scavenging in bins etc but will poster the entrances to the forest.
I will also visit Bartlets country store and garage at Bere Regis. If there is any more news while I am out and about my mobile is 07940 887667Last edited: 2013-11-04 01:01:16 by SueB - 2013-11-03 23:15 Gnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
- Just a thought everyone which I've run by Q.
It's very possible that B is making his way home, travelling North. Tried plotting a walking route from Tyneham to Blandford via Hyde and a large proportion of the route skirts the river Piddle / Trent.
Can we get email alerts out to helpers en route , particularly Bere Regis ?

- Thank you so much to Sue, Janice and Sharon for all their efforts over the weekend, it's amazing to have the help and support of such lovely people. I'm very excited about the sighting of a dog that is reckoned to be Barnaby in my last posting. The call came from a lady who lives in Bournemouth but had seen the posters. It just goes to show how worthwhile the posters are. Q.
- 2013-11-03 21:05 qdshayes
- I have had a report of a dog meeting Barnaby's description being seen at about 10 o'clock this morning (Sunday) in Hyde, which is just North Of the East Dorset Golf Club, between Bere Regis, Wool and Wareham. Sadly, the phone call came just as it was getting dark and, although I've been down there, I wasn't able to have a good search.
The lady who saw him has since seen photographs of Barnaby and reckons it's definitely him. If it is, the good news is that he appeared healthy and is approaching people. The downside is that we have no idea where he might have gone since rummaging through bins earlier this morning. If it is him, he's travelled quite a long way North (8 miles or so) from where he started two weeks ago.
I have got a couple of posters out in this area, one in the golf club, one in Bere Regis and a couple in Wool, but really I haven't covered the area of the sighting properly, or the area to the North if he's still heading that way.
Gavin, who lives next door to where Barney was seen, has put the poster on Facebook for me but any other help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. At least we now have somewhere to concentrate the search. Maddeningly, because I took time off last week to look for him, I'm really limited in what I can do over the next couple of days. If anyone has contacts in the area, could I ask them to spread the word as much as possible please? Thank you so much. Q - 2013-11-03 20:46 Gnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset

- All power to you Quentin and your family - me must not give up. As you say he could pop up anywhere. I have blitzed facebook with update info to keep him in the public eye - have sent the info to all my friends, a lot of people I don't know and, bless them, a lot a sharing the info on so the word is still spreading. I am pleased to Hear that B is like my Puzzle and more of an above ground hunting dog rather that going to ground. He can not stay out of sight forever, even if someone has picked him up or taken him in we will surely find out about it soon.
Has anyone been to ~Purbeck Shooting School yet on Worgret Road as there is also a flying club (Gliders) just opposite !! now there's a thought!Last edited: 2013-11-03 10:11:28 by SueB - 2013-11-02 20:34 qdshayes
- I'm so grateful for everyone's help in searching for Barney still. As time goes on it's harder to know where else to look or what else to do, but he's never been a dog to go down holes and, unless he's come to some harm, he's still out there somewhere, waiting to be found. I had to work this morning but we were out this afternoon looking again and will be out again tomorrow.
Although the area between West Lulworth, Tyneham and Kimmeridge has been well searched, he could still turn up there. But he could also be anywhere in the Purbeck area by now. So if you're out and about, or know anyone in the area, please do keep an eye out and pass the word around.
Again, thank you so much for your help, we'll be having a party to celebrate when he comes home. - 2013-11-02 13:41 Lin-D
- No sign of Barnaby in the Grange Arch area. My husband took his binoculars and looked all around from the top of the hill, but couldn't see him. I drove across towards Lullworth and then back to Wareham along Holme Lane, just in case Barnaby had made his way in that direction, but I'm afraid he wasn't there. Will keep looking for him.

- Back from The area now and sorry but not got any sightings to report. I met some of the range workers there and they are still looking out every time they are on the ranges, being dog owners themselves they are most concerned. Talked to lots of people including a walking group and have handed out flyers in case they see anything so they have the number to hand. Also called in to the stables at Grange house and made them aware that B is still out there. The range wardens were happy for me to plaster the place with posters ( I have promised I will remove them when he is found) At Tyneham I poked around all the buildings and the church which is left open but sorry to say no sign of the little man.

I have notified the Damory Veterinary Clinic because they are the vets that we use. Having said that, it's obviously the small animal side of the business that I've spoken to. I'll have another word with them. Thank you for the suggestion. - 2013-10-31 08:12 SueB
- New Day so new hope. Quentin have you been into Damory vets to tell them about Barnaby? I know they are a long way from the ranges but they have large animal vets who visit farms in the Lulworth, Kimmeridge and Swanage areas - They come to us at Creech Barrow! I will go along to Heathfields Vets at Winfrith before work today and make sure they know about Barnaby. Have my fingers crossed you will soon be calling me to tell me he has been found. xx

- Hi Sharon, thank you for your offer of help. It's really hard to know where to look now as the most likely area (the ranges) is inaccessible and the area outside of there is so vast. I am going out again tomorrow (Wednesday) to put up some more posters and have a look around the area of Burngate Wood and Bowling Green Wood near East Lulworth. I have nothing to go on, but given that there have been no sightings, I'm looking in the most local areas with cover that I can get access to.

- Following your posts, car problems preventing me from physical helping. Saw Springer Sharon asking when you're out searching next. I know Tyneham is only open at weekends now, and not 16/17 Nov. are roads open to other car parks in the vicinity during the week? ( MOD firing ranges for anyone helping who is not local )

- Hi Sue, thank you for your continued help. We don't often walk in the Tyneham or Whiteways area, although we have before. We have more often walked in the Purbeck's around KIngston, Swyre Head, Worth Matravers, Langton Matravers and Studland but they are on a different route from home. Home is Blandford and we usually go throught the Wareham Forest from Bere Regis down to Wareham and out to Corfe but to get to Tyneham we went through to Wool form Bere Regis. I have put a couple of posters up in Wool and in the shop in Bere Regis and I believe that there may be one or two in Wareham but this is an area that I could cover better.
- 2013-10-29 09:40 SueB
- Quentin, I have a couple of questions, do you often walk the dogs from Whiteway or Thynham and if so what route do you drive to get there? I know a Jack Russell who lives is London and belongs to a friend of mine that was always collected from the house by the dog walker and taken by car several miles to a park. One day he was spooked by a firework and ran off. the search of the area was extensive and he could not be found BUT he turned up at home several days later. When they asked people along the route the car would take they said they had seen him - he had retraced his car journey route home, even though he had never walked along it. I am happy to search the route as may times as pos if I know what it is. The local milk tanker drivers are keeping an eye open for him too. We WILL find him soon.

- Still no news of our little man I'm afraid. We covered the area between Kimmeridge and Lulworth yesterday and I'm now fairly convinced he's not currently in the area South of Bindon, Whiteway and Povington Hills. There have been no reported sightings and no evidence of any livestock disturbance which I might have expected by now if was he was in that area.
Given the weather we've been having, I suspect he will have been staying on low ground but other than that I have no idea where he might be.
I'm very grateful for the continued support of all the people who have been so kind and willing to help in the search for Barnaby, please keep it up, we miss our little man.

- Thank you so much to all those who joined in the search for my boy; it's heartening to feel the goodwill from all the willing volunteers in this group. Whatever the outcome with Barnaby, we shall be continuing with the doglost website so that we can hopefully help others in the agonising situation we're in right now.
Sadly, the area we're looking in for B is vast, and largely inaccessible to the public, due to the constraints of the fact that it's a tank firing range. I really am most grateful for the help and advice we've received so far. It's incredibly frustrating that we can't search the area where he's most likely to be but we have to face facts. I think that the most helpful thing that could be done now is to spread the word to as many people as possible in the areas adjacent to the ranges.
People are pretty aware in Lulworth now and I have put posters up in Wool. However, it's now 7 days since he went missing and if he pops up outside the ranges, it could be in any direction. So, I'd be very grateful if the message could be passed on to as many people and organisations that we have contact with.
I'm back down at the spot he went from today, leaving scent and watching out.
Thanks again. Q - 2013-10-26 21:45 Unknown

We will be going down to the area he went missing from tomorrow morning (Saturday 26th). I intended to make an early start but the gates onto the ranges aren't scheduled to be opened until 9am.
I suspect that Barnaby went off after the scent of a deer. We were walking in a westerly direction along the top of Whiteways Hill, having walked up from Tyneham village. He took off down the hill in a Northerly direction but we lost sight of him almost immediately in the gorse. I have no idea how far he went before he gave up the chase and realised he was lost, or what direction that will have been in. We searched the immediate vicinity for 6 hours until it was dark on that day and the Range Warden very kinidly took us round a good deal of the Ranges on the next day (Monday), but to no avail. The MOD and the Range Wardens have been very kind and helpful in keeping an eye out for him and I've been making a bit of a nuisance of myself in trying to keep him at the top of their minds. There have been no reported sightings of him so far.
It will be six days tomorrow since he disappeared and he could be anywhere by now. Because I have no idea what direction he might have gone in if he's travelled far, my intention tomorrow is to search the area on the ranges, that is accessible to the public, between Lulworth and Kimmeridge. I shall be starting from Lulworth at about 8 o'clock and going Eastwards.
If anyone is in the area and is prepared to help then I would be eternally grateful. If anyone has local knowledge and can think of other sensible places to look then please let me. I can be contacted on 07836 746747. The mobile signal in that area is a bit variable so please leace me a message or text em and I'll geet straight back to you once I have coverage.
Again, many thanks for your help.

- MOD have been very helpful - a ranger spent several hours on the ranges with Barnaby's owner scouring the area but no luck.

- Have spoken to the owner this morning who plans to come return with friends tomorrow (Saturday).
He tells me that he was walking from Tyneham up Whiteways Hill towards East Lulworth when Barnaby went missing. Is aware that some of the surrounding land is inaccessible being MOD testing area.
If anyone can assist please let us know - 2013-10-25 07:24 Gnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
- Have managed to pinpoint Whiteways Hill between Tyneham and East Lulworth on this map.
Is there any more info available ? Can anyone perhaps pinpoint from the attached map.
I'm not familiar with the area , was he lost near a road or was it on land. http://www.southwestcoastpath.com/walksdb/printable-walk/77/
