They may have staff inspecting that stretch of water who can keep their eyes peeled. Thinking of you, wish there was more we could do to help.

- one news year day I was walking my 2 spotted a goldie in the river being swept along with current. I ran down steps to bank along the way met a man with a ridgeback....asked him if it was his dog he said no.....anyway the dog was in trouble so the man stripped off dived in the fast flowing Thames....his dog followed....he got the goldie and passed him to the bank.....suddenly a hot sweaty crying owner turned up ....the dog had epilepsy and was carried away. Someone may have found him and be waiting for posters or looking out for an owner. If you were out walking so may others.

- I’ve found that it helps to print out an A4 sheet of paper cut into business-card size slips, each with brief details and your phone number on. Give them to all the local dog walkers, postmen etc. you meet. Then if someone has news when they’re out and about they don’t need to find a poster or log on to the site to contact you. I hope this lovely boy is home soon.

- Has anyone managed to get hold of the river bailiff? The fishermen should know who this is.
- 2013-10-26 20:01 Owl
- I would suggest that searchers pay special attention to the bends where you find a shallow area on one side, and to any sheltered areas backing on to those. If he has been washed ashore he may well have moved to a shelter such as woodland. Also look for any areas where he may have come out of the river and been unable to go much further because of fences, walls etc.
- 2013-10-26 18:52 K9 Search Dogs
- Hi I run a charity in Devon called k9 search dogs and we have bloodhounds trained exclusively to track lost missing dogs. I saw your dog was missing and would ask you to make a scent article so we can help track your dog. If you go to our charities website www.k9searchdog.org you will see how to prepare a scent article for us and how to contact us as soon as someone reports a sighting to you.

- Having done some research on this river - the good news is that it has many shallow parts - live web cam on various parts of the river confirms this:
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/120722.aspx?stationId=3231
The River Axe is a river in Dorset, Somerset and Devon, in the south-west of England. It rises near Beaminster in Dorset, flows west then south by Axminster and joins the English Channel at Axmouth near Seaton in Lyme Bay. During its 22-mile (35 km) course it is fed by various streams and by the tributary rivers Yarty and Coly.
It is a shallow, non-navigable river, although its mouth at Axmouth has some boating activity. The river Yarty also has escape points - surely if someone had seen Woody in the flow it would have been reported by now? So many fishermen along ths river.
Fingers crossed .Last edited: 2013-10-26 20:40:28 by Bo - 2013-10-26 15:47 lesleyjane
