Although it does look probable that Charlie has passed away his owner is still awaiting confirmation which will be given when the body is recovered.

The following statement today.
*** STATEMENT FROM CAROL ***

I have received news today from the Police that as soon as ground conditions allow, Charlie's body will be exhumed and returned to me. This may take several days, so I would ask everybody to please be patient a bit longer before I can confirm that Charlie is finally home. I have also received his collar and confirm it is Charlie's.
Carrie
Statement issued yesterday by Carol, Charlie's owner.

I have received notification from the island coordinator of Country Watch that a man has come forward to say that he found Charlie dead on Stenbury Down two days after he went missing.
He said that he gave Charlie a burial and produced his collar, which is being sent to me.
The man requested Country Watch to keep his identity anonymous. I have no further information.
I hope Charlie’s friends will understand that I have requested his body in order to make a formal identification and will let everybody know the result when it’s available.

Looks like someone knows the owner of that GSD x. No recent sightings of Charlie to report, but it is believed he's still sticking to the same sorts of areas he's been sighted in. Freedom, if you're on the Island, the searching is being co-ordinated on Faecbook through the Lost Pets IOW page and Charlie's own facebook page.

You must all be frantic. There have been sightings a while ago and he seems to be taking the same run - if you need any further help do please contact us, we are happy to sit out in the areas and see if we can catch him.

New sighting of Charlie today - Sunday 29th December – 10-11am – by pheasant pens between Lessland Farm and Moor Farm.
Carrie
4th December, a definite positive sighting of Charlie at Lake Farm Rookley at around 3pm. He responded to his name and even sniffed the hand of the lady who saw him, but she was unable to get hold of him. Described as bedraggled, but in good health.
5th December, another sighting on Bagwich Lane heading towards Godshill at 5pm.

My rescue dog went missing for 9 days in May this year. She was sighted for two days when she first went missing then nothing for four days when she was sighted again. Someone who knows about missing dogs told me to put some of my urine in a lemonade bottle (water it down if you like)and if he is not far from home make a scent trail all the way back. If it is too far away sprinkle some of the owners urine in the garage where the food has been taken and this will keep the dog in the area. My dog was going in a triangle so I scented the same triangle back to home and she was slowly getting nearer. Then she was sighted on a footpath about 800yds away on a Saturday afternoon. We ran up there and missed her by a couple of mins. I was told that although I could not see her she could probably see us so I was advised to go back to where she was last seen and scent all the way home. I did this at 9.00pm that night and we left her bed out with the back door and side gate open. My husband woke up at 5.00am to get a drink of water and she was wandering around the back garden. You can imagine how we felt. She was ok except a cut on her paw and a bit thin and lots of ticks (we think she was hiding in hedgerows). She is a Greek rescue dog and we were worried as she was and is very nervous of people and would only come back to us. The other advice we were given even if the owner sees the dog don't call them just sit down and pretend to look at something on the ground and not directly at them as calling spooks the dog. I know the urine scenting is not nice but it worked for me. Posters work. I put up lots and it was surprising how many people read them. Also I was astounded how many people helped me look for her and how kind the people at Doglost were who kept up my morale. We walked miles and time seemed to stand still for those 9 days. I am sure Charlie will be found or come home. We holiday on the IOW every year with our dogs so we know how kind the local people are. Its good he is being sighted so you can narrow down the area. Best wishes
Carrie
One of the ladies who is searching for Charlie lives on Bathingbourne Lane and has part of his blanket. Something is eating the food she's putting out in her garage, enquiries being made about feasibility of getting CCTV set up. Yesterday there were two sightings of Charlie about an hour apart on Whitepit Lane in Newport. Those searching have got smelly food and are being very careful not to scare him more than he already is.
freedom
Good news that Charlie is being sighted. He is running scared and it is important that if he is sighted NOT to chase him. Sit down and see if he will come to you. Has any food been put out for him in the areas he has been sighted together with maybe a blanket of his and something from his owner. If he is running in a triangle it is easier to make food stations for him. You may all be doing this anyway but it all helps to keep track of him and to encourage him to you. Good luck everyone, Come on Charlie it's time for you to come home.

Carrie I will drop you a line with some ideas tomorrow
Carrie
Charlie has been sighted over this weekend (2nd / 3rd) in the Bathingbourne / Lessland Lane area.
Carrie
Charlie is neutered. Latest possible sighting has him running along the Whitwell Road on Saturday which is putting him close to where he went missing (and rules out him having been taken off the Island). People are still out searching for him and hopefully this afternoon the local paper will be doing a photoshoot of some of the searchers where he went missing, so fingers crossed there will be a feature on him when the paper is published on Friday.
Scoobster
Found dog appears to be Neutered (Wardens have said its possible his bits havent dropped) Dog quiet lively and hard to check
Scoobster
Its very unlikely to be Charlie (Due to distance) But dog found in Salford (Manchester) that looks very similar to Charlie . Wardens are currently just checking if the found is neutered (One way to rule it out as Charlie)

One of the people who was out searching today spoke to a gentleman in Ventnor today who says he saw Charlie on Ventnor Down on Friday. Hoping that's good news as it puts him between the area he went missing on Stenbury Down and his home in Shanklin.
Carrie
Charlie's owner says he is neutered. She also says that she often gets asked if he's a Kelpie because of his looks.
There's a big co-ordinated search going on today focusing out from Stenbury. Still no sightings in the last few days though and Charlie is scared of storms and out in the worst possible weather.

Alerts sent to helpers in PO30-41. Please let us know where else we can send the alerts!?
Carrie
The Dog Warden is aware and the area he might be in has been postered and the folks who are searching have visited a lot of properties. He's also had coverage on the local radio.
Carrie
It can't be seen on the main picture, but Charlie has a white blaze on his chest.Last edited: 2013-10-26 21:04:05 by Carrie

Possible sightings of Charlie are:
19th October at Kingston and also Chale towards Blackgang
22nd October at Niton Barns
23rd October running through Shorwell
24th October Atherfield at Ash Hill Farm.
Horseriders also reported an Alsation in Brighstone Forest. Charlie is smaller than a German Shepherd, but does have upright ears.
People have been out searching for him trying to cover the wide area of possible sightings, but he's a friendly dog, so we can't discount him having been picked up by someone. People will be out searching again tomorrow, but with no sightings in the last couple of days it's difficult to know where to start.
