Dean. You are right to be cautious about ;letting Baxter off his lead. I am a volunteer dog walker, and have seen (Not often) people walking their dog OFF ITS LEAD by busy roads, and railways. The only time I let the dog off tghe lead is in the local park (Gate closed) where it loves to play a game of "Fetch" (Owners permission) for a few minutes. Game over I walk the dog back to its home, lead attached. "CARS, VEHICLES, AND TRAINS AT SPEED CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR A DOG OFF ITS LEAD". PS Like children you have to be at least "One step ahnead"

Baxter is also featured on Inside Out BBC 1 East at 7.30pm.

Baxter's owners have done a little pre-record for BBC Northamptonshire that will be going out just before 8.30am Monday. I'll then be on to talk about dog theft.

I'm home everyone!! I was found running around Harrold Country Park about 2 hours ago after probably being dumped and was taken to Sharnbrook Vets where I was scanned! I am very very happy and thank you so much everyone for liking and sharing, the publicity got me too hot to handle and eventually home!
Also thanks to The Pet Detectives, Beds on Sunday and Northamptonshire Police. So many people have helped us over the last six weeks - it has restored our faith in human nature. Happy Christmas x thank you thank you thank you xLast edited: 2013-12-18 20:05:53 by Bo

The is no shooting on sundays so if they were shooting it would have to be pigeons or clays. Might be worth checking the local clay shooting clubs just incase they remember. Although highly likely pigeons.

https://www.facebook.com/findbaxter.8/posts/600918513301960 PLEASE SHARE: Another possible sighting yesterday near Junction 18 of the M1, heading down the footpath at the side of the motorway.

Described as a small springer spaniel which looked brown and cream but could've been red and cream because he was so filthy.

If you live around this area please please please keep an eye out for this dog, even if it isn't Baxter, he most likely has an owner searching for him too.

Springer sharon
Stay positive, heis out there I feel sure

Advertised in this weeks Countryman's Weekly magazine. I hope it brings some news.
Dean
Thank you for your posts. The Appledown Kennels is definitely not Baxter. I am ringing Cherwell Council first thing this morning. We have chased all possibly sightings, but none are likely to be Baxter. Last positive sighting was being put into the 4x4 at 12:30 on Saturday 9/11 on the A6 near Souldrop just outside of Rushden, Northamptonshire.

Baxter is still missing (I know his owners) and is still believed to be dumped or in the hands of thieves. No recent sightings. There is now a "find Baxter" FB page set up if people are willing to "like and share" x
Julesbarno
Any news on Baxter??? Do we still think he was dumped in Wellingborough or still in the hands of Thieves? I wonder if its a good idea to post a poster to any shop in Northants and surrounding counties that sells Shooting goods, Field Sports, Shooting ranges or Gun Clubs and ask them to display it for us?? Hoping Baxter is home safe and sound soon x
Gill
This has been shared on facebook between lots of dog loving people living in Northants - also Duston Dog Walkers have shared on facebook too - will put up poster in local pet suppliers Collins - although hoping one of the dogs below might turn out to be Baxter x

Is there any news on Baxter? Poor baby must feel so scared and confused with all that has gone down. All fingers and paws crossed here for a successful outcome xxx
The girls!
Have shared Baxter's page with Horsewatch - Northants and surrounding areas on Facebook in case anyone sees him or has any further info that could help.

Message from owner- Photo of Baxter shown to woman on horse who saw the spaniel dumped, she believes it was Baxter x
Nicky
There seems to be some confusion now as to whether the dog which was seen stopping the traffic was actually the brown and white lurcher. This dog was running round loose all of yesterday and as far as Im aware still is as nobody could get near him. I will check out the details again when I see the girl who witnessed the dog being abandoned. She is only a young girl but there was an older girl with her. Will speak to her and post later on. Everyone at the livery yard near to where the dog was seen have been informed and are all looking out round the fields for Baxter and the lurcher.
ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
Owners went over last night to have a look and it up some posters but no sign of any dogs.some friends will be out there looking this afternoon.x
digbysmum
What a worry. Do hope lovely Baxter is soon back home, safe and well xxx
The girls!
Could the black dog be Monty 59006? Same county
BBKM
Where is Baxter... Was he the dog on the road that stopped the traffic? Hope he is reunited soon and the Lurcher is caught safe too x
Nicky
forgot to mention that Wellingborough Dog Training club who train in one of the fields at Irthlingborough Rd were searching for a dog today. Not sure if this was the same event or whether they were trying to catch the loose lurcher. May be worth contacting them to check.
Nicky
Just found out that a black 4x4 type vehicle pulled over on the Irthlingborough Rd nr the Lawrence Leyland complex at around 10.40 to 11am today and dumped a couple of dogs. One was a black dog and the other a brown and white dog which looked like a spaniel. Apparently the vehicle drove off and the brown and white dog was running all round the field sniffing everything then ran out onto the road. This caused the traffic to come to a standstill on both sides of the road so a few people must have seen this happen. There was also a brown and white lurcher running around the same area today which I did see but nobody could catch this dog and as far as Im aware its still out there loose.
Unknown
We know the vehicle we are looking for. A dark, possibly green, Landrover type with a blacked out rear window. 1 bald middle age man and a ginger/blond man in his 20's. If anyone knows anyone fitting this description and with a vehicle such as the one described, please contact DogLost. They were seen heading in the Rushden direction from Souldrop direction at approx 12:30 yesterday. Fortunately there are average speed cameras along that stretch that record traffic flow.

Spoke to owner and given advice.
Nicky
I know one of the people from the shooting party who were helping to find Baxter yesterday. It was not any of them who took him from the man on the A6. Some of them were out last night looking for him and they were told by the chap at the Dog Centre that he handed him over to what he thought were the owners dressed in shooting gear who stopped and put him in the 4x4 and said he was their dog.
B30
At least he's safe. They may not be the same people and not aware of the owners number, maybe intending to have him scanned when everywhere opens on Monday but let's hope they get in touch soon.

LizQ, Baxter wasn't already on here when you registered him, the owner did it afterLast edited: 2013-11-10 05:32:52 by B30

Message from Sophie. Spoken to man at Bedfordshire Dog Centre on a6 and he caught Baxter, but a 4x4 pulled up and three men in shooting gear came out and asked if he was okay at 12:30pm and then took him. Hopefully these men were the shooting people we talked to and theyre looking after him, but we havent had a call from them. im praying these men havent stolen him and they are genuinely helping us Mum will ring the shooters she knows in the area. at least hes not stuck in the woods! x
