- Hi Tom, stay positive! A black cocker in that area in winter is going to be very hard to spot. She will probably be out hunting dawn and dusk and sleeping in the day. Can you get hold of an infra red night vision scope? I am afraid mine is in use here for another black dog in the dark, but it was a great help to the owners of a black working cocker who was living rough in Oxfordshire for several months. Her people would not have known she was taking the food, as it could have been foxes, until they started using the scope and saw her watching them from the bracken. I got mine on ebay. Look around as some are better than others. Also, can you surround the areas you are leaving food, clothing etc with some smoothed out sand, preferably damp, so you can see pawprints?

- We're going down there Saturday with Weimmy pup. Hopefully we'll spot her. Fingers crossed.
- 2013-11-15 13:27 Esther
- Lots of people in your area will be looking for her Tom. She may be moving round at night and as she is black she wont be so easy to see.

- hey all the trail for kiwi has gone cold, not been seen since tuesday when i last saw her. Im scared that she may be stuck, stolen or gone by now. I find it hard to believe that if someone has got her how they managed to catch her first i will never know. I have tried all the advice that people have given me but still no sign of her. The trap still hasnt seemed to work, whether we need to relocate it i dont know, any further advice and positivity would be greatly appreciated thanks
- 2013-11-14 08:01 Esther
- Hope she is home soon

- Good luck with the trap. Please make sure to check regularly once set and don't leave a supply of food outside of the trap.try scenting up to it how Owl has described. Please check all hedges/bushes you can in case her harness has snagged x

- latest update on kiwi! no sighting today, however me and a friend stayed the night there last night and cooked up a bbq, we were pretty sure this would lure her in, however did not have any luck all night and all day today! We have now resorted to using a trap, the trap is filled with sausages and sardines(as suggested) fingers crossed we head back tomorrow and she is there! I still believe she is up and around that area and cant have gone far, it is hard not to think of the worst but just hoping she is safe and well and returned home to us asap! thanks all for the advice

- Anyone know what she is like with other dogs? We will be walking in the areas this morning. Is she likely to approach our dogs?
- 2013-11-12 23:08 Florence's mum
- Oh I am sorry to hear this :( Have you got her back yet?
- 2013-11-12 10:38 Owl
- Just spoken with Tom and shared a few tips re scenting. Tom has seen Kiwi this morning, she seems to be going along the same route. Her bed has been left with some food, and they will have a fryup.
- 2013-11-12 10:28 Owl
- Hi Tom, so glad you are getting sightings. I would really go for a smelly barbecue with bacon & sausages, as well as having sardines to hand at all times. She will probably be catching small rodents and maybe rabbits, plenty of those round there, and perhaps washed up fish on the shore. Her instinct now will be to back away from anyone coming towards her, before checking who they are. So if you see her either sit as ESSJ says, or if you are standing walk slowly at right angles so she can get a good look at you, and don't make eye contact. Can you leave an unwashed item of your clothing by the watchtower?
- 2013-11-12 08:24 Esther
- Sardines are definitely top of the list with my spaniels as well. Good luck today
- 2013-11-12 08:00 Springer sharon
- Tom, can you get hold of a small dog crate? The metal variety. Put bedding in and some food. It will take a while but she may well be attracted to it and it could help her begin to feel more secure. Good luck. Wish I was nearer

- Tom is she going down at the same time? Try and establish her pattern and sit quietly and wait ( obviously the more time you can spend there the better chance of both her seeing you and vice versa), humming or singing so she gets a chance to recognise your voice. Take a slip lead and some smelly food she might be interested in(my spaniels will do anything for a sardine).a bbq on the beach when it's quiet may be a good idea to try and lure her down.stay seated where possible as it makes you look smaller and less threatening and let her come to you- no sudden movements.
