- Update on Sid
He has now had his surgery and is starting to wake up. He is on a high dose of very strong pain killers which he will be weaned off of over the weekend.
The surgery went well thanks to his specialist orthopaedic surgeon and they have been able to use pins, plates and implants to repair his leg with no need for an external fixator. This means that the repair is stronger, life long (no need to remove the pins, plates and other implants) and is well worth the extra cost. It also means that there is no delay to skin healing, no need for the leg to be put in a cast long term and needs much less management afterwards.
He will be x rayed again in 6 weeks to check that the leg is healing well and we will then start physiotherapy and hydro with him when the vet is happy.
Thanks to your donations and Andreas fundraising we have now raised £2288 which is fantastic and covers the majority of the bill so far. Thank you so much for your kindness, we really appreciate it and will keep you updated at all times. - 2013-11-14 20:56 Unknown

- Update on Sid. I have just spoken to Sids vets again who have shown his Xrays to a specialist vet. The outcome of that being that Sid will be moving to a specialist centre in Swindon this afternoon and having surgery done by an orthopaedic specialist. The current vets are negotiating with the specialist for us, but it looks like the cost of surgery could hit around £2500..
- 2013-11-14 07:52 Esther
- Good luck to Sid
- 2013-11-13 23:08 Mollychops
- That's good news Rachel .hoping all goes well with the surgery , keeping Sid in my thoughts for Friday
- 2013-11-13 17:20 rachelhayball
- Sid has had his Xrays today and we now know that he has a fracture to his radius and ulna (like Minnie!) There is some displacement and a few fragments of bone floating around, but the good news is that his wrist and knee are fine.
So, on Friday the vet will be operating on Sid and will be pinning it and fitting an external fixator. He will then we spending the weekend in the vets and will be coming into foster early next week if the vet is happy with his recovery. - 2013-11-13 13:37 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- Tx for update Rachel....Now nearing £2,000...Sid will be well looked after.....tx everyone....

- 2013-11-13 09:09 rachelhayball
- Morning from Sid/Flanders (finders name and vets name for our lovely lurcher).
X rays this morning and then we will know exactly what he is facing. Sid/Flanders is very comfy and happy in the vets and is on pain killers etc and is getting lots of cuddles from the vets and vet nurses throughout the day and night. The vets are being fantastic and are keeping us informed.
We are still appealing for his owner to come forward- someone must be looking for him? Even if you don't want him back please just get in touch and let us know. You do not need to give any personal details, just tell us a little about him and give us and the vet permission to take ownership- this will automatically happen on Sunday anyway, but it would be great for him if this could happen before. - 2013-11-12 22:41 Mollychops

- 2013-11-12 01:19 Carol
- I find it totally unbelievable that an animal has to wait 7 days for an owner to come forward , after all it's not the owner that's suffering absolutely disgusting xxx
- 2013-11-11 21:33 rachelhayball
- Thank you all. Over £500 raided for 'Sid' so far. He is having further x rays in the morning x
- 2013-11-11 21:03 Unknown
- Poor thing. Really hope this lad gets his operation one way or another. So pleased he is on painkillers, as I know how he feels having suffered a badly broken leg myself which needed major surgery, but I did`nt have to wait seven days. If no owner claims am willing to donate too. Than you Hounds First, you are stars. Keep us posted.

- Tx for update Rachel..and good to know there is a rescue on board...did give your number out esrlier to a lady that wanted to donate...did say she will have to donate through you or the vets...not through Doglost....
- 2013-11-11 17:52 rachelhayball
- Hi Bessamour- the vet has given initial treatment including pain relief, anti inflammatory and have bandaged the leg. However the leg is severly broken and needs major surgery. They cannot do this until the owner comes forward or until the 7 days is up, at wish time he will come under the rescues care.

- So glad that Hounds First are helping this boy out. How can it be that in this day and age he may have had to wait 7 days before receiving treatment? If this is the current law> Surely something needs changing to help animals found injured.Last edited: 2013-11-11 17:16:17 by scoobysue

- 2013-11-11 15:49 rachelhayball
- Hi Beezle- which area are you? I have phoned West Berks, Reading and Basingstoke and all said it wasn't their area. I need to speak to the dog warden who is responsible for this boy.
- 2013-11-11 15:13 Beezle
- Just a polite question but has the local Council been informed? (As we border Beech Hill and haven't been told about this poor boy.) Do hope he is doing well and thanks to the people who care.
