Thanks for the update on this tragic accident. As an aside, I have been looking at the various recovery breakdown company's policies ref transporting family pets after the breakdown of your vehicle and it seems that the norm is to leave the dogs in the broken down vehicle (unless its a guide dog or similar) and tow out of danger. One of the main reasons being dogs hairs and next customer (seriously?) and the one i agree with that being the danger of transferring animals from one vehicle to another.
Obviously the most important thing at the moment is that these ladies are ok and the injured dog fully recovers. I am however of the opinion that who ever abandoned these people on the side of the road (if that is true) should get some very bad publicity and make a very public apology. I for one would never use their services again if what reportedly happened is indeed true.
Well done to the police and all helpers involved in this totally avoidable tragedy.

an update on the lady hospitalised as a result of this crash is that she has a broken femur, collapsed lung and spinal fractures in 3 places. Both the ladies with her have deep shock and are also at hospital. One dog is very ill at the vets, but is holding on. Our thoughts remain with them all.

I've been out showing today and so pleased to get back in and to see that Darren had been captured - the show fraternity was shaken by the images coming through on our smart phones and so much sadness for the owners and the dogs lost to this tragedy - my thoughts very much with Lisa and Carrie
Caz
So pleased Darren has been found safe & well following this tragic accident, my thoughts go out to the 3 poor dogs that didn't make it along with the young lady now in hospital with a broken leg! This should NEVER have happened & along with the lorry driver the RAC should be bought to book, they can't be allowed to get away with this.

Thanks all. I think I was more surprised than anything when I spotted him as we all know how long it can normally take. Big cheer to the doglost network and groups like The Algernon Trust for all the sharing. Hopefully a small bit of relief for the owners in what has been a horrific day.

Please step forward, whoever you are, Anna - doglost helper - who is to be credited for finding Darren - he was in fields off the M40 between Avon Bassett and Farnborough. I am told, Anna, and I quote, that "it's thanks to Doglost that we managed to reunite them so quickly, Anna, a doglost helper was a star". So, whoever you are, thank you - from everyone at DL and of course from the owners and their friends - and Darren.
Clare

CONFIRMED! Darren found safe on the M40
CALEYKIZ
Just spoke to helper on phone who was sat watching him, lisa got there and has caught darren!!!!
Algernon TrustLisaP
It is being posted on facebook that Darren is found safely, is this confirmed please?
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Just spoken to an officer in TVP she knows area which has a lot of fields close to motorway. No one is allowed to go on the motorway but fields running adjacent would be a place a scared confused dog would head.
Suggested heading for nearest over bridge with binoculars to view area. if dog sighted and close to motorway then call 101 for police assistance.
Shereen
police chased him into undergrowth but had to go back to accident scene...no conformation on time though as yet.
Unknown
Darren apparently seen alive on the motorway
Unknown
Hope they are found soon. I come off at junction 11 to Banbury.
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Bearing in mind the last 'lost dog ' involved in an RTA was a multiple pile up and dog found by police and fireman in a car 3 behind the crash.
If crash scene is located will need permission to search on motorway but if possible would advise any areas close to crash

Latest info: some of the dogs ran nearly 3 miles south to junc 11 so people need to look around that area, and one of the dogs they caught was on the south bound side of the M40
