Thanks for the update Claire. It is great to hear how these dogs get on, it is such a shame that we know so little of some of the others when they are not reunited. Have a great time in your new home Peg, so very well done to her wonderful helpers.

Excellent news. Have along, and happy life in your new home Peg:-)xxx

Posting to tell Peg's (as she is now known by) followers that this lovely girl will today go to a new home. Her new owner is Finnish and both her and husband have fallen in love with her as she has them. She has been to her new home on a few occasions, out for walks and drives in their car. She gets on very well with her new dog friend as well. What more could she want but a loving forever home. My grateful thanks to Ray for rescuing, rehabilitating and socialising her this past year. Good luck lovely lady and hope to visit you in your new home early next year. xx
ClaireC
This lovely girl goes from strength to strength. She now walks with the traffic (rather than "playing" with it) on a lead comfortably. She loves her socialiser to bits and gets so excited when she comes in. She travels nicely in a car and has free run at the bottom of the kennels and comes back when called. All going in the right direction for this girlie.xx
ClaireC
Latest update on this beautiful girl is that she now goes for walks down the road with her socialiser Jane pictured above. She has had a season and is now due to go and be spayed within a few weeks. As you say Susan what a difference and lovely to see her looking good and "chilled out" rather than frightened out of her wits. Will let everyone know how she continues to progress. Thank you for taking an interest in her xx
ClaireC
Will try and get another update soon. Thanks for following this lovely girl. xx
susan anderton
What a difference a few months and a bit of love makes. Well done to everybody involved, will continue to follow.

Claire. Thanks for that; I wont worry now. My synpoathy to Jane for the recent loss of her GSD too.
ClaireC
janiejewel1649 have no worries Jane who is socialising Rae, is an experienced GSD handler and owner who has recently lost her own GSD. Rae is still not ready to go anywhere at the moment though.xxLast edited: 2014-04-15 10:05:31 by ClaireC

Well done Ray, June, and everyone involved in Rae`s rehabiliation. You are all the "Tops" June, you must have a lot of patience, but I know it will be so rewarding for you, when she is ready to go to a new home. As Petra has already said, she would perhaps be better placed with an owner who has had experience with the breed. If only Rae could talk, and tell us about her "Past Life"? Sending ((((HUGS)))) to Rae. Keep us posted on her progress please.
ClaireC
Thank you DanielleT I played but a small part (albeit a cold one!) the praise goes to Ray and his team. Thought you would like the piccie I was just about to text you! x
DogLostDanielleT -Area Volunteer-,West London.
That new photo has just made my day! What an amazing difference! Sending a big thank you to Ray & his team, to June for all your patience, to Claire for sitting in her car for all that time and to everyone else involved in Rae's transformation xx
Clare
She is beautiful. Well done to June and Holytrees giving her another chance of a happy life. Hope she finds a loving home as soon as shes ready.

For the lovely Rae followers i can tell you all that she is now making great strides towards her rehabilitation and socialising. I do think she is now earning the nickname of Miss Artful Dodger who knows that she's on a lead and accepts and then the longer lead and accepts and then a flexi lead but apparently when there is no lead she is looking for an escape route! You would think by now that she's got a nice warm bed, food on tap, people to play with but still wants the old life back! However, she has just come into full season and will be spayed at some stage after . Maybe that will quieten her down! I will email into Admin a new photo of her with her socialiser who has worked her magic called June from Hollytrees who both clearly enjoy each other's company. Who knows they may both decide that they cannot live without each other! Fingers crossed please. http://www.raydedicoat.com/gallery.html
ClaireC
Update on the beautiful Rae. She has gained a lot more confidence and is being worked with on a daily basis with a lady dog trainer to help her even more socially. She enjoys this lady's company and responding very well to her but Rae is still very wary of total strangers. If you visit the website of Hollytrees Animal Rescue and view the "gallery" of photos, at the very end there is a young GSD female, this is not Rae but it is one that was trapped and caught having lived feral for 11 months. Miracles do happen up there and this young girl has now been rehomed and so will Rae when her time is right. I will keep updating. Thank you for still following her. xLast edited: 2014-03-26 16:40:28 by ClaireC

Short update on the beautiful Rae, she is now less wary of the kennel staff and comes out of her kennel onto the grassed area more now and watches what is going on around her. Very destructive in her kennel and not sure how many beds she has actually gone through even with the staff in attendance! Still very wary of strangers. Still going along at her pace. She has put weight on and I believe is now at the correct weight for her. Thank you for still following her progress. I will continue to update as to how she is getting along. xx
ClaireC
Hi i am in hosp at the moment but will try and update over the next few days. I doubt this lovel girl is rehomed at present time as she was still very wary of people and we were going along at her own pace. Will update when i know more x

Are there any more updates on this beautiful girl? Would like to think she's now settled into a happy home.

Just to let you all know that I have visited Rae today and she has put on weight. Sadly, the romance didn't last and young Bob found himself another woman to turn his charms on! He is now rehomed to one of Hollytrees Kennels socialisers and is off to a wonderful home. Rae did appear at the front of her kennel but wasn't too keen to remain for too long a time! She is still very timid and very wary of people and her rehab is taken at her pace at the moment. It may seem that she is taking a long time to become more confident but we will never know what traumas she had ever experienced in her earlier days! She is not nasty or malicious just very wary of people apart from the young kennel lad who she tends to be a lot easier with - its a male thing! Strangely enough, I took my husband with me today and she has never seen him before but she did come and sniff his hand, saw me and must have thought OMG not her again! She will get there but obviously it will take a bit of time. I hope to be able to get a new photo on here in the next couple of days, sadly again behind bars though, but at least she came down to the front for the photocall! xLast edited: 2014-01-16 19:37:54 by ClaireC
ClaireC
Short update on Rae. She now walks towards the staff and they have had a few tail wags. Very possessive of her food still. She goes out for a short walk but pulls to get back inside again - can't blame her! Romance still blossoming but lets him know who is the boss when food is introduced! Still trying to get a new photo but Ray is sooo busy catching other dogs as well! xx Last edited: 2014-01-07 20:07:28 by ClaireC

Hi Bo, I am hoping that when Rae is ready that they will both be rehomed together. It was never planned this way it just sort of happened that they were both around at the same time! Maybe it was meant to be that way who knows! You can always phone Hollytrees on 01564 823244 re a donation if you so wish. Thank you.

I do hope to come back to you all early in the New Year with another update. Happy New Year to all of Rae's followers. xx

Thank you so much for the updates on Rae. Keep us posted in the New Year please.

Wishing Rae, and everyone on here "A Very Happy New Year", and all the best for 2014.

So pleased to see that Rae continues to do well - she is lovely xxx

Claire
Thanks very much for the updates on Rae. Will she stay with this pup she's bonding with or is it a rehab process. Im interested that's all as I'm not a dog behaviour expert and am intrigued to the methods used to help these dogs adapt to domestic home life. Is any more money needed for her care?
ClaireC
Just a very quick update to say that Rae has now had her second jab. She doesn't tend to stay at the back of her kennel sleeping quarters too long and comes to the front when someone comes in. No real tail wags at the moment and still eating for England. She has now begun to "fill out" and is looking a lot better. She is very possessive of her food though! She is still keen on the romance with puppy Bob and likewise he with her. It is hoped in the New Year to get a more up to date photo which strangely enough I was just asking for before I read your post Danielle. So pleased that these two are safely in the warm (and me!).

Merry Christmas to Rae's followers and will update again in the New Year xx
DogLostDanielleT -Area Volunteer-,West London.
Just want to say Merry Christmas to all involved in catching Rae, would love to see a happier photo of her when you can xx
Mollie & Will's Mum
Great to hear how Rae is progressing. I can't imagine what she must have been through. Keep the updates coming when you have a minute lol x
ClaireC
Latest upedate on Rae is that she is still freezes with uncertainty but does love to stick her nose under the kennel to Puppy Bob. They do go out for short walks with each other and so the romance is still very much on!
ClaireC
On behalf of Doglost we would like to say thank you to Michael (Postie - Wing)and his wife for your very kind donation which may be used towards purchasing Halo Scanners. These are used to check over the body of animals to see if they have a microchip. Merry Christmas x

Hi i would love to offer a Foster place or forever home i have a shepherd + and she would love some company and Im experienced with shepherds
ClaireC
Update as of today's date: She has now been vet checked - the vet went into see her as she was afraid to go out! She has been given a clean bill of health and had first part of vaccination. She has fallen in love with the puppy Bob as indeed he has with he! As he is so confident I'm sure it is good news for her and he will help her to adjust as she now spends most of the time with her nose underneath the door at the front of the kennel to where he is. This is good news as it means she is no longer wanting to hide herself away at the back of the kennel. Further updates when I receive. All good so far xxLast edited: 2013-12-13 19:55:56 by ClaireC
ClaireC
Update from Ray: She does walk towards him when he has the slip lead and allows him to put it on. Still freezes at times. She doesn't appears to be fazed by other dogs around, and she may have the company of a small very confident puppy at times that I have also given to Ray as a friend and he will teach her its not such a bad world really! They both must serve their "quarantine" for a few more days though. She still eats her food with one eye on the plate and the other nervously looking around. She'll get there. Not vet checked at the moment.
ClaireC
Good evening, I've just had a call from Ray and she's allowed him to put a strap on and with very gentle tugs she will follow. She is now not snapping and no sign of malice just bewilderment. She is wanting to hide behind her bed in the kennel and therefore this has now been removed as she now needs to start a little bit of interaction. Definitely no chip on body anywhere. It is hoped that she will be vet checked in the next few days. She is eating for England though and needs to put on a lot of weight as she is very underweight - bit like me now!

Will update when I know more.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Yes the Ray is a gem! as indeed every one helping are gems....well done!
Ellie
well done team Rae! It certainly was the same Ray that caught Donna. He's a real gem!
ClaireC
Barney & Ozzie - you are correct. Not quite as cold though this time!
ClaireC
Short update on Rae: I am told she is eating well but obviously still bewildered by it all though! She has been checked for a chip but nothing has been found. Will give a further update over the next few days when more is known on her condition.

I am sure that she must be enjoying a better bed and food at specified times other than living rough and not knowing when she was going to get some proper food.xx

WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.CLAIRE NEIL AND RAY who have spent much time catching this Lady. EXCELLANT RESULT!!
It would be great if a chip was found as well. Just shows how experience and patience are the best way to trap a dog.

Claire, if someone wants to email them to me I'm happy to deliver updates to the lady who deals with what's on in wing. She only lives at the bottom of my road!
ClaireC
Having had a long night this dog was safely contained on private land by just about the best person with an indepth knowledge of handling dogs and their behaviour. My very grateful thanks to Neil Smith (local dog trainer - Wing) and for Ray "burning much rubber down the motorway" this morning. Between 3 of us she was then put into a cage, much to her disgust I have to add, and put up a pretty good resistance! However, she is now safe and when she is ready to be handled she will be checked for a chip to see if she has an owner. In the interim she has been given the name of RAE. I am so very grateful for the people who have telephoned me, even in the wee small hours, alerting me to this dogs whereabouts and the area(s) she has been visiting. She will now receive the veterinary treatment that she needs, as we know she was hit by a car from people who thought they could simply "round her up", probably with the best intentions but even I've learnt this just doesn't happen to be the best way forward. I have informed Wing Police who I know will be absolutely delighted that they do not have this girl playing with the traffic unlike last night! I do hope to update Wing residents thro' the Whats on in Wing when I know who best to contact. I will display some notices in some prominent places ie allotments, pubs informing people she has now been safely caught. If anybody wants to make donations to either Ray or Doglost knowing they will be happily received for the continued care of any animal. Ray's details: Hollytrees Kennels, Packhorse Lane, Hollywood, Birmingham, B47 5DH. Once again my very grateful thanks to Neil and Ray. Memo to all Dogowners in Wing: Please can you keep your dogs on a tight lead as I'm very tired!!!!!!!!! xxLast edited: 2013-12-10 13:52:00 by ClaireC

APOLOGIES - I have been at work all day - she has been seen near the trap oday so hopefully it will not be too long now - I understand that there is a post somewhere on facebook page with people trying to organise going out to catch her - please if anyone sees the post can they please remind the posters that last time his was attempted she got chased into the road and struck by a car - next time she may not survive .... I believe we are gaining her trust slowly - she seems to be staying safe on the road when left to her own devices just hope that this continues until she is ready to go in the trap

Just back in - we have seen the dog today which is good news - it is injured but getting about - we also had reports of a RTA dog on this section of road - we have covered this area on foot and in vehicles with fogs and main beam on & police are investigating this report for us too as we can find no sign of a dog along the whole section from Wing back to the bypass - traps are baited and assigned helpers checking the area

How do! I was in wing today & went for a mooch about but sadly nothing to report
