Fluffylegs the other dog lived very close to where he was found, they have only had him 3 weeks and has got out of the garden a few times, he is a handful and they dont seem to know how to cope with him. - We have traced the dog found in Ashbourne with a lot of help from the local police and local people. it is not Chess and is back with its owner. So we are still looking.
- 2014-01-02 20:20 Unknown
- Hi have been trying to track down dog found in Ashbourne..checked with Animal Search..they directed me to their web site where 2 dogs found in last couple of days...one in stoke a ginger husky with cream markings, the other in Ashbourne was a black and white bitch...this just means that ANIMAL SEARCH UK has no record of a cocker being found...did you register with them Lesley??
- 2014-01-02 19:29 Unknown
- ANY NEWS???? SEEMS SUCH A LONG TIME TO HAVE TO WAIT ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE PUBLICITY ABOUT CHESS..WONDER WHY THEY DIDNT ASK YOU TO TRY AND IDENTIFY THE DOG...SO NEAR YET SO FAR....LESLEY HOPE ITS GOOD NEWS. WHATS THE INFORMATION SURROUNDING THE SITING AND 'CAPTURE'. WOULD THE WORD REWARD BRING THINGS TO LIGHT DO YOU THINK??
- 2014-01-02 11:52 lesley morgan
- no news yet on the dog found in Ashbourne, nobody knows who took it or where. The dog warden is trying to find out more.
Amanda I am sorry to hear about your loss, you are right the A53 is a nasty road, I am so careful on it but you cannot avoid the crazy guys every time. thank you for looking out for my boy. xx - 2014-01-01 16:13 Amanda Thompson

- There are reports of a cocker picked up in Ashbourne and meant to b taken to vets for scanning but there's been no word since. Hopefully Lesley will b able to update further soon
- 2013-12-28 21:33 Unknown
- Well done Lesley and hope you find some tough booties for your springer and hope recovery is going well. The scent may well help....Hope the weather is not too bad up there and there is still lots of interest in searches all around. The postering is key and especially farmers as sheep are in lamb now and also they go across their land on quad bikes, tractors etc so are covering a lot of land.
ALSO guidance to seachers to carry high value treats and spare lead and collar, poss slip lead to go easily over neck.
Would also suggest adding some details to poster advising of action if he is found..ie no loud shouting his name, no eye contact, bend down a few feet away gently, offer a treat and gain confidence... - 2013-12-28 12:02 lesley morgan
- thanks guys, we are getting the picture out to some of the farms a little further away today. My other dog may be allowed out next week so will be taking him along. thank you for your help

- Shared Chess on FB and twitter, hoping for some good news on your lovely boy very soon xx
- 2013-12-26 23:29 Unknown
- Well done...have you laid any scent trails?? USING STUFF LIKE DUST FROM YOUR HOOVER. I know its wet and windy and 3 weeks now so as you say he may have travelled.....I WONDER IF THERE IS A WAY IN WHICH YOU COULD GET A ...IS IT, THERMAL IMAGING, COMPANY OR SIMILAR, TO 'DONATE' A SORTIE IN THE DARK.
ALSO AS WE KNOW ON HERE, DOGS LOST MOVE IN TRIANGLES.
Have you got local radio stations doing regular 'Keep an eye out for Chess'.
Also have you done articles in local papers?
Do hope your other dog is recovering?
Come on Chess please be found sez Riley........ - 2013-12-24 00:35 lesley morgan
- Thank you so much Fluffylegs, we have widened the search now as he could have travelled some distance now. We are looking at some of the villages that are not far away across country, Longnor, Hollinsclough, Sheen, Brandside and Harpur Hill. Postal workers, milk and oil tanker drivers, walking clubs and off road motorbikers are looking for him. Holiday lets etc are displaying posters. Police, mountain rescue and ambulance are all aware. The other dog is still not able to go out to help with the search but familiar dogs are being walked in the area daily. we have a good idea of the direction he went now, a lot of hiding places but surprising that no sightings at all
- 2013-12-23 01:37 Unknown
- sorry not to see any updates on here from local folk postering. It would be really helpful if people could indicate where posters have been put, it really keeps awareness going on here and also as I know too well, postering does help find dogs so please let us know where these have been put in area. Am in touch with owner on Spring Thing site and she has had help from strangers but the news is STILL NO SITINGS OF CHESS. Ambulance and police feel he may have been injured by impact of accident.
It could be he has been taken in by a remote farmer or cottage owner......so info on where locals have put posters on here pleasae would be good. Thankies you!!! - 2013-12-21 14:24 Unknown
- Hi there have been following Chess on Spring Thing and have just posted a sugestion which has worked looking for other dogs..I know you have had folk searching, tracker dogs etc but have found that a one day event organized search works well using ideas from here and my brain and other folk who have done same.
You cld do this on Boxing Day. Get people to meet at a safe spot near where Chess went off, bring lunch and split people up into small groups and retunr after 2 hrs. Publicise and gave a name like CHEER UP FOR CHESS or CHANCE FOR CHESS and get posters and stickers, the bizzy card ones are good idea to hand out and maybe local printer or computer handy person can do these in colour with his pic.
Dont forget dogs become feral after 3 days and so your already nervous little man will poss be holed up somewhere coming out at dusk and dawn maybe.
I know you have made brilliant efforts already
but try also LONG DISTANCE LORRY COMPANIES IN HIGH SIDED VEHICLES, TESCO ETC SHOPPING DELIVERY FOLK, ALL LOCAL COTTAGE RENTAL COS LIKE SYKES WHO WILL HAVE FOLK STAYING OVER XMAS GET THEM TO PUT LEAFLEIN COTTAGES.
Animal feed companies, pet shops, paragliding clubs, any helicopter cos. The military poss on manoeuvres on foot or in vehicles.
Contact SYESSR on website;spaniel rescue based near sheffield who have rescue dogs homed around area and am sure people and dogs will be willing to join in an event or keep a look out or poster... they have a shop and Jo Dean is a big chokky cocker fan and will let them know myself but you cld also with more specialist local knowledge..
GOOD LUCK CHESS little man come home we want to see you in the Blue here...
Hope this helps all tried out methods xxfrom Riley - 2013-12-18 10:26 B30

He is a lovely dog but will be nervous with strangers and very frightened but not aggressive he will just run if pushed. he has amber eyes which really stand out. His name is Chess. the house door has been left open every night just in case. all farmers and postman/vets know about him.
- 2013-12-13 16:16 Greyghost
- Owner is now out of hospital and family and friends are doing everything possible to find Chess. There have been tracker dogs out and searching a new area today.
- 2013-12-12 11:45 Baggy Dog
- I’ve found that it helps to print out an A4 sheet of paper cut into business-card size slips, each with brief details and your phone number on. Give them to all the local dog walkers, postmen etc. you meet. Then if someone has news when they’re out and about they don’t need to find a poster or log on to the site to contact you. Even worth putting them through doors as it happened locally. Really hope Chester's home soon and that his Mum makes a speedy recovery.

- If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
- Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
- DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
