Following a request from Vicki for advice from a well respected behaviourist - we contacted a friend-Paul Daly from Canine coaching http://www.caninecoaching.co.uk/ - someone i trust 100% and he very kindly moved all of his appointments just for us and made his way down to Vicki and Waynes this afternoon.within only a few minutes her had worked his magic and Mowgli is now sat comfortably in the warm INSIDE Vicki's home. We at doglost would like to thank you all for your support and ideas over the last couple of weeks with emotions running very high- all with one aim in mind- to get this lovely lad safe and dry inside- it has been a slow but very necessary process guided by Rachel with superb advice which was spot on.Now that he is inside there is a lot of work still to be done- Paul has offered Vicki and Wayne advice and support in the coming weeks. Can't wait to see a photo of this lovely lad- i think we all lost our hearts to him xxx (photo now added - please refresh)Last edited: 2014-01-06 21:24:36 by ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland

Thank you for the update Vicki and Wayne. Hoping all goes well and he's indoors soon.
ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
Update as emailed from Vicki. Please bear with us- we know that everyone wants constant news of his progress but it is very time consuming and we are concentrating on Mowgli himself as top priority.

This update outlines the actions and progess made in last 24hrs after capture of Mowgli in our secure garden on Sunday 5 January.

We have sat in the garden for parts of the night and to this morning to work on his trust, We have monitored him for any obvious medical concerns (as instructed by Vet) and also monitored his behaviour in relation to escaping. We have also left downstairs open did he decide to seek solice in our home. Please note that this activity is also now recorded.

We have had the RSPCA visit who have given their approval of our current situation and how we are working forward along with ensuring Mowgli was ok. One instruction from the RSPCA was to add a shleter to the corner where his safe zone is. This is to be done within a few days as instructed by the RSPCA and they also said that to leave this till today to not disturb him whilst he was acclimatising last night. We have the shelter being set up ready and built outside the garden to then introduce later with minimal disturbance.

Mowgli has been up and down throughout the night to the shed to grab food in there, as well as the food we are offereing. Mowgli got up this morning and sniffed around and a stretch. He has been eating well.

We have been able to get 2.5m near him and will continue on this today. We are in touch with a very experienced behavourist who is giving advice this afternoon. The vet is fully informed and we are workin on getting him into the house today with then a check up to follow.

Can we please ask that no well meaning neighbours leave access to any food so that Mowgli has to go to his owners property when hungry.
vab
Hi All - Please can I ask for this be shared within SO50 postcode and local areas for the meantime. Thank you xx
rachelhayball
Hi, Vicky has been following DL scenting instructions, as well as having a feeding station in the garden shed which he is visiting. Sadly we have unable to get hold of the trap yet due to an emergency within the trap owners family, but it should be with us in a few days.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Thoughts. How about feeding him a bit less in "bowl" and laying a trail which would eventually get to back door. At some stage you'd have to suffer the cold and leave door open and continue trail indoors. Would scenting in the garden help as well? Just thinking a failed trap (my greyhound wouldn't go into a trap) would spook him even more, when he has come this far. If he's visiting the shed perhaps some alteration to door might be the answer. Need an innovative practical man.!!!! A few drops of Bach Rescue Remedy on the food might also take some of the fear away, cured my girl of firework phobia when I first got her. Come on Mowgli give in .Last edited: 2014-01-01 11:40:58 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer

Is this lovely boy home yet??

Any news?
maxine
oh gosh crossing my fingers and toes
rachelhayball
Please be aware, Vicki is the legal owner of Mowgli.
rachelhayball
Vicki has just seen Mowgli only 15 metres away from her house.
rachelhayball
Mowgli's owner is sure that Mowgli is visiting and feeding from her garden shed every night which is where the trap will be placed. We have sent Vicki a night camera so she can be sure that it is Mowgli.
rachelhayball
Thank you Ratel. I will make sure that someone gets in touch with you x
Lin-D
The person in charge of the dog pound in Southampton may have a large trap, or know of someone who has.

Ratel
I have a very old fox trap which I used to use for extremely difficult feral cats, the measurements are 4.5 feet long, 1.5 high and 1.5 wide. It is in total disrepair (currently a tree has fallen on it!) but I will happily donate it to Doglost for the good of all. Be warned, it WILL require renovation. So anxious about the beautiful Mowgli.
maxine
has shereen lennox lloyd any ideas? we borrowed before from dog warden...pls put appeal out for a trap, i know someone will come forward, can the owner pls put an appeal on her wall or someone on mine pls doglost?
rachelhayball
We are currently trying to source a large trap. Sadly none of the dog traps are big enough.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Mowgli is still taking his food from owner's property but still keeping away from all humans. At least with the knowledge that everyone is leaving him to settle in the area he has no reason to move away. Thank you to all who are supporting his owners who are working so hard to gain his trust.
maxine
any news please i cant see anything guys??

k9shaz
Can't stop thinking about this poor boy out in this horrible weather. If only he knew that everyone wanted to help him and not hurt him.
Rachel - Bucks volunteer
I have posted again in the hope my friends will keep reposting and the Doglost team are able to secure him asap. Stay safe Mowgli.
k9shaz
I tweeted Mowgli's poster and a local reporter from the Daily Echo has contacted me. She might phone the number on the poster but if not, could the owner or someone involved in the search call Emma Streatfield on 02380 424501.

Twitter is fantastic for this sort of thing. People have been retweeting the poster all over the area. The Hampshire Police, Eastleigh Borough Council and Mike Thornton the MP have RT'd the poster to all their followers.

I'm not in the area so I can't physically search but I'm doing my bit from afar and hoping he'll be found safe.Last edited: 2013-12-23 15:04:06 by k9shaz

Hello, we still need Mowgli's details sharing as we need locals to be aware of him and call in sightings if they spot him.

However we would ask that people do not go and actively search for him due to how nervous he is and ask that if locals see him when out and about on their normal daily routines that they call 07872311431 straight away.

His owners are currently following our guidelines and advice and are currently trying to gain his trust and get him into a feeding routine in a certain area so we can use a trap
pixies peeps
Just wanted to check whether this should be shared any more as there is a post on vets get scanning which asks us not to share details.(Am not wishing to know more than this)

Poor dog really hope he is ok and soon back in a loving home. Good luck everyone xx

Poor boy must be so frightened and obviously wary of people. It is good that he is going to the food stations and hopefully it wont be too long before he is caught safe and well and back in the comfort of a loving home. x
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Any missing dog is traumatised..and hungry and needs help...and will hide away and respond to food but will be wary of too many people approaching...and probably nervous...so any sightings please call the mobile number...and do not alarm him...
Wendy McComb
S4sugar - he is not unsocialised at all. He is with new owners, doesn't know the area and is nervous. Mowgli has now been sighted 3 times today and is returning to the food stations set up for him, with neighbours overlooking the scrubland he has settled in watching out for him. As for your comment about not the dog for Uk homes, that eliminates anyone with a mountain type dog, retired greyhound, beagle, guard type dog etc etc etc....... Mowgli has a wonderful home awaiting him with experienced dog ownersLast edited: 2013-12-22 20:33:27 by Wendy McComb
S4sugar
If the dog is so unsocialised why has he been transported? Just to let anyone thinking of searching know what they are looking for please look here - http://www.caucasianovcharka.ru/ - and do not approach. Have the police been informed unless the area has an out of hours dog warden? Not a type of dog for most UK homes.
k9shaz
Where was he sighted?
poshbird
Hi all having recently been involved in an indentical search for a dog with a identical background to mowgli,i cant emphasise enough how although its so tempting to approach on each sighting ,the trap will give the best chance of catching him, unfortunately our search was thwarted by people thinking they could catch our little romanian dog ..please please leave it to the guys with the experience ...good luck with your search x
rachelhayball
Right guys. Mowgli has been sighted but is scared and is running when people approach. Please can the searchers advise the public to phone in sightings straight away but not approach him. This is going to be a game of who gives in first, and it wont be you guys. Looking at getting a trap into the area. Vicki is setting up feeding stations which will be always in the same place at the same times. Please do not set up any more without speaking to Vicki first.

Hi all. Firstly thank you all for such tremendous love support and understanding in this awful situation. For anyone wishing to help we will be meeting at 8.30am location so50 7pd. Last edited: 2013-12-21 22:29:42 by ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland

As ESSJ has listed this dog I have emailed the person listing the dog missing on FB, via the FB messaging service. I would suggest at this stage people do not approach the dog as we do not know how nervous it wil be and it may bolt away again.

I have asked the owner/carer to post some more information on here or to let me know so I can post.

please please come home safe
