So so pleased to see this. Welcome home Ben.

SO HAPPY AND RELIEVED TO CONFIRM THAT BEN IS SAFE AND WELL! :D

He was missing for 102 days and was found 50 miles away - he would have traveled many more miles along the way. I never gave up hope and would never have stopped looking for him, although I feared how long it could take to find him.

He is fine... after two days I still can't believe we found him. He has lost some weight but nothing a week or two of good food won't fix.

I want to say thank you to Bethany and Sam at Clifton Lodge vets in Billingham, who took Ben in and scanned his chip after he was found in an enclosed/fenced off area, yards away from the surgery.

I've posted some words of thanks on Facebook. THANK YOU to every single person who reported sightings, helped search, poster and spread the word about Ben - including everyone on DogLost who shared his page. I had a lot of help along the way, particularly in Sunderland.

A VERY special thank you to Jumanji... for all your support and advice. And to Bazil - for everything - I can never thank you enough. Thank you also to T for all your help. And to Jen... thank you. You are good people!

Ben is finally safe... if only he could speak of his adventures. He is a very special, gentle soul and he has captured many hearts in these last few months - if only he knew!

(I can't add a new photo so will email admin, who can hopefully help with that).

Come on Ben where are you . Could bens photo not be shared again on dogs lost and found sites so people will still know he's still missing and the more that see his photo the better because loads of people look at and share these from all over the country
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
There have been no recent sightings of Ben but there are people in the area of Sunderland where he was last sighted who will let us know if he is sighted in that area again and postering was done in and further afield around the area .

It may be that he has moved on again and if this is the case we have to hope people report sighting him.
Without recent new sightings I really feel his owner is doing all she can at present and am once again drawing the line on negative comments.

Dogs that come from abroad are quite resourceful.
It comes from living on the streets.
They get very street wise.
We had one lost in this area.
Stayed in a big field for weeks as people fed foxes.
I feel sorry for these dogs and any between owners.
They are in limbo really and in a strange place.
Plus they do not understand English.
I hope someone finds him soon.
Fingers crossed someone finds him.
Nikki
Surely ANYTHING is worth a try to try and find poor Ben I think a huge search and rescue would definitely be worth a try. Would Kate not consider this now as Ben has been missing quite some time now. Come on Ben show yourself.

Spent a few hours around Dalton Park area from about 5pm today. Went over there with my hubby and Maddie for a lovely walk over the hills. It would be pure luck to see Ben while out walking if he is still in this area. Hoping he is still around there and the good weather and lighter nights bring him out more. We sat in the car park near MacDonalds and watched for a while. Had a look about close to East Moor allotments with the torch but still no sign of Ben. We stayed until after 8pm and then had a slow drive home taking the route to pass where he has been sighted before, Seaton Lane and Gillas Lane in Houghton le Spring xLast edited: 2014-03-09 00:05:33 by BBKM

Re Ben's last possible sighting on Sunday 2nd March

I have contacted Security at Dalton Park and they have looked at the cctv footage for Sunday night. Visibility was poor due to the bad weather and it being dark, so they could not see the dog sighted by Amy near MacDonalds.

I have emailed Security a poster and they have my contact details. I have asked them to contact me at anytime if they see Ben or any dog looking lost or without an owner.

Kate went to the area tonight to search and put up posters. No sign of Ben :-(

Can Ben's page be bumped please?
BBKM
***POSSIBLE SIGHTING....DOG SEEN WAS SAID TO BE BEN***
The dog sighted was at Dalton Park car park, near MacDonalds on Sunday about 6.30pm...
Lynn and me went down to Dalton Park about 2hrs after Amy had seen this dog/Ben on Sunday night. We had a look about with torches and sat and watched for a few hours. Food was put down, sadly a cat came and ate it... Chased it a few times but it couldn't resist the smelly kippers..... Haha.... We have put a few posters up and Macdonalds have a couple of flyers. The allotments out the back of Daltlon Park, over the hills were dog/Ben run off too are ideal place for him to hang out. Kate his owner was going down there after work on Monday to put more posters up in Murton and surrounding areas.
BBKM
Been no reported sightings since Tues 18th Feb of A19 dog.... Kate has mentioned making enquiries about a Tracker dog... we will keep you updated with any news.

Hope you are going to show yourself soon Ben... and hope you haven't moved on again.
Remember Ben was not reported sighted for nearly 3 weeks as he travelled from Ebchester/Lanchester area over to Sunderland. It is possible he has moved on again.
Stay safe lovely boy xx

SIGHTING OF DOG BY ME... nearly certain it was BEN....
I was driving north bound on A19 and saw a dog crossing the Seaton Lane bridge over the A19 at approx. 3.15pm today.
I got to the area asap, took about 5/10 mins by the time I turned around. I searched the SR7 0LP for about 1 hour and could not find him. Anyone I asked had not seen the dog walking down Seaton Lane, the School Lollipop lady was there and saw no dog. I am assuming as he got across the bridge heading east towards Seaham/the coast. Please can we have new alert sent out to SR7. Will be back down later to have another look. Fingers crossed.

SIGHTING.... approx 7-7.30pm THURS 6th Feb..... Really old looking black dog walking round near VILLETTE ROAD and toward road at HENDON, seems terrified. No picture as im posting for a friend & she didn't take one..... The person who seen this dog has said it was Ben when she was shown his photo.

Villette Road area was searched last night.

Please can Ben's page be bumped for sightings x
duffs54
Come on big fella, loads of us following your mini adventure, time to show yourself again please and get back home to Katexxxx
Bev B
still got Ben in dogs I am following and still hoping he is reunited with Kate very soon-reading all the efforts that are being made to find him -as mentioned before unfortunately do not live in the area but will keep a watch on dogs lost site xxxx
BBKM
We obviously can't rule out any sightings when Kate, Ben's owner has not seen the dog that has been sighted.

There are many people who have seen the dog in the SUNDERLAND area who are certain this dog is Ben. We therefore concentrated on this area and will continue to do so.

The PRUDHOE sighting was reported by one person and there have been no more sightings of the dog seen at PRUDHOE, but that dog could also have gone to ground again.

The last SIGHTING of the SUNDERLAND dog who we really do think is BEN was SAT 1ST FEB between 3-4pm on HALL FARM ROAD on the grass verge at the roadside xLast edited: 2014-02-05 23:29:48 by BBKM

We are sorry that the millfield sighting wasn't Ben but pleased that Jake was reunited with his owner. We are still really positive that the numerous sightings in sunderland were Ben and are hoping that he is still in surrounding areas. The amount of people that had seen a dog that they thought was Ben in Sunderland was very encouraging and we are far from giving in. We will find him Kate :) xx
jen reay
Good that Jake home. Constantly watching this page for updates hoping he's been reunited with Kate. Perhaps it was Ben spotted at Prudhoe Hospital and concentrate round that area again. Always got my eyes open looking for him while I'm driving around.
BBKM
Gutted the dog seen today in SR4 area was not Ben... He was a Lab X called Jake and has now been reunited with his family which is great news.

Hope Ben is seen again soon and hopefully in the same area as his last reported sighting on SAT 1st FEB in HALL FARM ROAD AREA OF SUNDERLAND xLast edited: 2014-02-05 22:56:35 by BBKM

Just to update that there have been no more reported sightings of this dog/Ben since he was last seen on Sat afternoon. Kate was down there again last night. She and Lynn have done a leaflet drop around the area and Lynn is monitoring the feed station. Christine has been out again last night and today, searching and having a drive about. Brilliant work being done by many Facebook followers too, by sharing and emailing Ben's photo x

Lots of sightings from residents and dog walkers of this dog and after seeing a photo of Ben each person has said 'yes that is the dog' they have seen. Great team of people have spent the past 3 days searching and feeding Ben. Many hours both day and night they have been out. Last reported sighting was SAT 1ST FEB between 3-4pm on HALL FARM ROAD. Ben has been fed here by Lynne Burlace and her husband Billy who have been so close to Ben but unable to get close enough to gain his trust and get a hold of him. We have a feed station set and if Ben keeps returning we will then plan to set the trap. Fingers crossed. Lets keep up the great work Kate, Lynn and Billy Burlace, Christine Clark, Melisa Fleury, Jumanji, Trevor and myself. If Ben stays in this area I am sure we will catch him and get this lovely lad back home safe in his lovely new home xx

geordiecrossposter
NE43 TO SR3 takes you straight through heavy wooded area and countryside, Chopwell Woods and Beamish although you would need to cross the A1 at some point if he went as the crow flies, if you walked it using the road and not as the crow flies it takes 20.3 mi, 6 hours 47 mins, thats going past the metrocentre, crossing through chopwell and beamish it would be much quicker so a dog could easily cover that area in a straight line through wooded area or the other way is though Blaydon, Gateshead, Felling, Sunderland but they are less wooded and more populated

**POSSIBLE SIGHTING TODAY**

PRUDHOE, NE42 - Morning

A dog was seen (with no owner) near the Falcon pub/restaurant - it was following behind a man walking his partner's dog along the road entrance to Prudhoe Hospital. At the first boarded up house along the drive the dog ran off into the woods.

The person who saw the dog could not be certain it was Ben (when later shown a photo) but said the dog was the same colours.

Have started postering and left a poster at the local police station. Searching properly from daylight tomorrow.

It seems most likely that Ben has gone further afield now, so yes - emailing a wider area (taxi firms, etc) will start...

its an idea but if someone can poster or approach pubs wider afield to put posters in them, we did this and many cooperated, its a a place where many people gather, take times to do and needs manpower...can flyers be handed out in any town centres or bsu depots, train stations, we did this too? yes we used all local high schools to poster in too..just ideas, we also put in local hospital if any and police stations and emailed hundreds of local business', taxi firms are very very usefl and helpful, we did all this but had lots of help from afar to email, and send to business'...

would it be possible please to list all confirmed sightings here with dates, so people local to the area can use this valuable information? many might check in, be in the area and not be really aware of where Ben has been sighted?

Posters and flyering being done in a wider area, daily. Please keep sharing.

Sadly there's nothing new to go on - no more possible sightings in Ebchester or Lanchester (County Durham) - Ben may be a different area now. West of the last sightings is vast countryside and farmland.

Consett area Farm Watch are circulating Ben's details/photos (thank you to the person who suggested this). Now contacting police stations in other areas re Farm Watch.

Thanks its all calmed down now. Look how many dogs on death row we have saved this week. Thats what we are all about and what we can achieve my working together.
When we have comments to moderate we dont have time to help these dogs. So thank you to everyone for taking this on board.Last edited: 2014-01-21 19:19:42 by Gino

I totally support my local co-ordinators and long term experienced helpers and the fact this site is for helping dogs get back....All negative comments will be pinked and if persistently taking admin off the task of putting dogs on site by having to monitor comments ...those people responsible will be given a cooling off period...ie banned from site for a week...we don't want to loose any of you wonderful people who want to help...but in this case it has been deemed necessary that we all focus on Ben...tx everyone....we don't want to become like FB and would like to keep kick offs of our site..so have to implement these measures now.
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
More postering has been done this weekend and media coverage is being sought by Bens owner
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Ok,
the line is being drawn here on ANY negative comments with regards Bens owner or the reasons behind why they have chosen to no longer enlist the help of people via Facebook.
I could make a very long list of the build of events and things that have been said and done on Facebook and on this page leading up to their personal decision to do this.
PLEASE no more arguing , critisism, negative or personal comments of Bens owner or of anyone else for that matter as they only further illustrate the owners reason for making their present decision.
There are doglost helpers who are now choosing to email in advice, ideas and information rather than post on this page !
This page is for Ben and so from now on only positive, constructive and supportive comments please .
LET US DRAW THE LINE HERE ! Last edited: 2014-01-20 14:56:56 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

well bazil i did offer my services but they were refused by kate..we coordinated a huge rescue for a rommie and i have much experience in this and many ideas which i am afraid i have not been able to share with anyone...so yes, offended you might be, as i was as approached by doglost to help and then kate agreed and then changed her mind...have you handed out leaflets to everywhere, we targeted schools, shop and everywhere we could and much much more..we did ads in newspapers and also have cctv the lot, so yes i have much to offer in advice....no where here has it been detailed what has been done and we had volunteer helpers in great numbers...not meaning to sound offensive, just asking for the benefit of my advice to be listened to ...thanks
Kate

HAYDON BRIDGE SIGHTING - NOT BEN

Sighting in Haydon Bridge today was checked out straight away - we actually found that dog - unfortunately it was the same dog that had been at Langley Castle 30th December (it's apparently a local dog who roams the area).Last edited: 2014-01-18 15:44:46 by Kate

Kate has just taken a call... Ben possibly sighted at Haydon Bridge 20 mins ago. Lady tried to approach him but he run off. She is there now searching area. Sounds really positive. He could be making his way home.
Ben's Triangle could possibly be Home/ Stocksfield down to Lanchester then across to Haydon Bridge. If he has travelled via Edmondbyers, Slaley route this could be why he has not been sighted for a while. Or I could be completely wrong?
Please bump Ben's page x Come on Ben x Last edited: 2014-01-18 13:45:18 by BBKM

Maxine your comment offends me as an on the ground doglost helper. Can I ask what more you think we can do when there has not been a positive sighting of Ben since 3rd Jan? We continue to share his page, display his poster, check all FB lost found sighted pages and as many selling websites as possible. Many Durham and Northumberland Vets, Kennels, Pet shops, Bus companies, Taxi firms, Postmen, Binmen have all been made aware that Ben is LOST and all his sighted areas where searched and postered by Kate and her family. It is awful when sightings stop but it happens with many lost dogs. We are praying for a positive sighting of Ben so we can then go and target the area asap. You say 'a proper co ordinated rescue' might bring Ben back. Can I ask you where you think this search should take place?Last edited: 2014-01-18 00:49:40 by BBKM

personally i think fb can be a great tool if everyone can work together, the page is now secret, how can this help anyone? i dont know what really is going on, but if people would just work together and share information then ben would benefit..to be honest the posts here on doglost kate tell us nothing...nothing about who helps you search and what you do really...i have tried to help...i dont know who supports who, who does what, its a mess...you may search for ben kate, but you tell us nothing really, here we could organise many more people to help you, trusted people? do you even have bodies helping?? the rescue can offer all the advice in the world, as i can, and have offered to even do more than that, this wont bring ben back sadly, a proper co ordinated rescue might, and i belive that there have been no sightings for days, so clearly your strategy does now work very well...if the idea is to keep your thoughts secret, then its not much use posting here really ....
Kate
Thanks Bev - much appreciated.

Just to clarify again - I continue to search for Ben - nothing has changed - and the rescue continue to offer support and advice. Any new sightings will be posted here.

The timewasting needs to stop. Fb was being taken over and abused by people who were claiming to want to help but who were - and probably still are -posting nonsense, at best, and outright lies and attacking others, at worst. This has confirmed how damaging social networking can be in the wrong hands.

Anyone with a genuine interest in sharing useful information about finding Ben, and working together, will be able to follow and post here on Dog Lost. Thanks.
Bev B
I have had Bens details in my 'dogs I am following' -trying to match his details with dogs found-I do not live in his area so cannot search for him /I don't do facebook so cannot comment on anything that has been mentioned-I just pray he is found safe soon and is back with his owners.
Minigirl - Area Co-ordinator, West Yorkshire
I am not the co ordinator dealing directly with Ben or his owner, but I can say that a message regarding possible sightings was posted onto the Doglost North east facebook page. the message was not clear and I asked for clarification so that Ben's page could be updated and we have had no response.
I did not see the facebook page in question but had a few messages expressing concern that the focus was shifting away from being a useful resource for gathering information about Ben and working together as a TEAM to try to co ordinate the best way forward.
Please may I suggest that all comments here on in are both useful and practical and supportive.
Thank you all for your efforts so far and please let's keep working together with Ben in mind xxxLast edited: 2014-01-15 14:32:25 by Minigirl - Area Co-ordinator, West Yorkshire

I have been following this story from day one on facebook and I know the girls that were leading the searches for ben were doing an excellent job. All sightings were noted to a doglost coordinater therefore I would have thought they would have updated doglost. The facebook group has actually been closed and members deleted ( I believe it was the request of bens owner). I find this very upsetting reading the posts in here especially when they have worked so hard and even camped out in freezing temperatures to try and find him. Facebook is the number one place to share lost and found dogs as photos can be shared far and wide and very quickly. These people were genuine people.... im shocked!
maxine
the facebook group has gone secret now so we cant log in and follow anyway....would it be useful here to ask for volunteers to come forward here kate and perhaps you can see how they can help you locally search? at least here its genuine people not fb vigilantes who want glory..consider this please...more decent bodies?
Kate
Thanks Jen - I really appreciate that. I've not forgotten your advice.

I'm continuing to search Ebchester and Shotley Bridge. Any updates will be posted here.

Maxine - again, thank you for offering to help. (Just to be clear I've not personally said anyone is "barging in"). I've found out the hard way I need to be more cautious in accepting offers of help - as facebook proves.
(Have no choice but to step away from fb as it's doing too much harm).Last edited: 2014-01-14 21:38:35 by Kate

A comment has been made that 'they know where Ben is' ???? If they do know and are positive about his location then surely all info should have been posted on here and passed on to Ben's owner/family immediately.

I am absolutely appalled at the way the group members are turning on everyone and each other... it needs to be closed down asap. Shocking!Last edited: 2014-01-14 23:41:00 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

sorry to hear that fb page a nightmare. I cant find you on there. just to let you know that I am still keeping an eye open for Ben. I drive through Ebchester to Hedley every day but have not seen him. Keep strong xxx
maxine
the facebook page is horrible...kate has decided not to use this tool as its not good reading, she is right, i tried to help but i too have been accused of 'barging' in, i have dont this kind of coordinating before with success so know what i talk about, if people cannot be civil and work together without nastiness then i am afraid that the fb tool wont work at all...sorry kate, i tried and also tried to talk to you, yes i can be trusted but the group dont want my help...they are gunning for you...good luck here and good luck ben, maybe with more doglost helpers not fb ones you will have success..when we lost fetita, our group was wonderful and we worked as a team even though the distance people did all the emails and postering etc..the others nearer did legwork and we have alot of good advice from shereen lennox lloyd. we also collected good donations to help pay for adverts in the papers and cctv camera which is available todoglost any time to borrow ..
BBKM
You can pink my comment but I feel so annoyed at what I have been reading on some FB pages by what I see as glory seeking people that are saying untrue comments and being really nasty.... If any of you read this, take a step back and think why some info has not been posted on here. There have been no absolute positive sightings of Ben for well over a week now. If one of you think you seen him why did you not post that info on here or our doglost fb page immediately... why wait 3 days??? I hope we get a positive sighting so we can get on with finding Ben and getting him back safe in his new home.

Yes, Bardon Mill was a one-off sighting.

Nothing new to report...

Hi Bazil
Have had no sightings for Sunday 5th - Thursday 9th (today) - but sightings are usually coming in after the day seen.

Yesterday in Ebchester there were reports from locals of seeing a dog like Ben - most recent sighting was last Friday.

A sheltered area has been found with possible evidence of "something" making a bed there - I've not seen it in person yet.Last edited: 2014-01-09 19:59:42 by Kate

if you think he has been using a den then put your scent there Kate and keep checking it out

This is Bazil posting this again.... not sure why it is saying 'unknown' when I posted earlier.... is doglost website having problems?

Any news about Ben please. I was tagged in a post on FB about the use of a trap because a helper thinks they have found a sleeping den that Ben is using.... have we had more positive sightings?

Thanks Jen for that tip.

Have been no sightings after Saturday - 3 days not sighted. Lanchester and surrounding villages were checked out again today, thanks to my Dad.
jen reay
might be a good idea to leave your scent where seen in Lanchester and Ebchester. use an old tea towel and use stones to weigh it down so dioesnt blow away. if he finds your scent he is likely to stay in that area and therefore easier to find. plus it means that you have 2 places where you can keep checking to see if he is nearby

BBKM
Thanks for update, we can maybe organise a search if he is staying in this area. Fingers crossed for another sighting and that he is heading back North towards Ebchester x

TWO SIGHTINGS SAT 4th JAN

*Dog seen on Ragpath Lane in Lanchester (approx 11am)
(reported late Sunday night on Twitter)

*Dog seen in Quebec area of Lanchester (afternoon)
(reported Monday evening)
- Sighting is furthest south from home (Stocksfield)

I'm plotting a map of all possible sightings and continuing to poster and search areas where sightings have been (and surrounding areas).

Sightings are back and forth between Ebchester and Lanchester since 31st December.Last edited: 2014-01-07 00:26:39 by Kate

Bumping for a possible sighting of Ben yesterday beside the A694 between Shotley Bridge and Ebchester DH8 .
Please read Kate's post below x

UPDATE: Langley Castle sighting on 30th Dec was a local dog.

31th Dec: Possible sighting somewhere between Shotley Bridge and Ebchester (DH8), approx 2pm.
Dog seen was on the move beside the A694 - lots of woodland in that area and seems more likely that Ben has ended up there, coming from Stocksfield. Will continue searching for him in that area.Last edited: 2014-01-01 01:25:33 by Kate

We have had a photo of a dog similar to BEN sighted in Message from member of the public............
I spotted this dog on Bruntsfield links, Edinburgh this morning after watching the dog for 15 to 20 minutes I was aware that it didn't appear to have an owner with it. The dog did not look like a stray
and although I couldn't see an indentification disk it looked like the dogs collar might have had a plate on it. The dog would not let me approach it and was very aggressive to any other dogs approaching it. It was last seen heading in direction of Marchmont road.
I hope it is found by it's owner soon......can owner check link. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=651584338234593&id=195654177160947&substory_index=0
