Thanks for the update Hilli. Sounds like she's in the right hands for this long recovery process and she deserves nothing less after all she's been through. - 2014-02-22 22:31 Hilli
- This lady is now called Caoimhe (pronounced ke va). She is a cheeky girl but very loving. She had her first hydrotherapy session of many today, which tired her out but will benefit her in the long term.

- Thanks again for the update and positive news - looking forward to hopefully seeing her when she's settled with her new family. X
- 2014-01-28 18:20 Hilli
- This young lady is still doing well but it will be a long healing process with her front leg. Only time will tell. She's not ready for her hydrotherapy treatment yet but when she is she will start that, which will hopefully also help her front leg.
She is putting her paw down more often now and she goes for very short walks (50 yards or so) just to practice putting it down properly and put some weight on it. I think it has improved.
Caoimhe is quite a lively little lady but also a real poppet. She also has a forever loving home to go to, which she will move to next weekend. - 2014-01-22 22:49 Patlucky
- I hope they do try everything before thinking about amputation .
Silly saying that as I know they are.
This dog deserves the best.
xx - 2014-01-22 09:44 Bo
- Thanks Hilli -

- This little lady is settling in to foster very well. She is eating properly now. Her front leg is still a concern but she still tries to use it, albeit not always very well. She is a sweetheart.

- Give this girls big hug from me.
The first day I saw her I thought she needs help.
Well done she is looking good - 2014-01-19 05:42 Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
- What a little sweetie, and one tough little cookie to have survived such appauling injuries and loss of her puppies. So pleased she has now gone into foster care, now that's progress.
- 2014-01-18 23:01 Bo
- Thanks Hilli - good to hear the vet is still hopeful she will keep all her legs and her appetite seems fine.
- 2014-01-18 22:24 Hilli
- Thank you all for your donations.
This young lady went into foster care today. She is still very weak and needs crate rest with a small, limited, amount of exercise as that is all she can cope with. Her front leg is not paralysed but she still knuckles and collapses on it. The vet is hoping amputation will not be necessary as she still tries to use it. She is eating and as I type this having a good sleep!
When she is a bit more recovered she will have some hydrotherapy to help build up her mobility. - 2014-01-18 09:36 duffs54
- What a gorgeous girl, missed this story somehow but just donated, hope she finds a lovely new home xxx

- Update: 14-Jan-2014 (Posted on behalf of Lyn, GSD Rescue West Essex)
This little lady is starting to eat a bit more food and today she had a very short venture out of her kennel to the outside world (-but she soon wanted back inside again!). Anyway, a positive move forward....
If her eating habits continue to stabilise then she will be able to be on antibiotic tablets etc. instead of injections.Last edited: 2014-01-14 17:55:23 by Hilli - 2014-01-12 22:28 Patlucky

- Hello and thank you all who have donated for this young lady.
There isn't really any 'new' news on this young lady except that she continues to hold her own and so things are still relatively positive at the moment. Funds so far have gone to pay towards the operation she initially required and for the strong antibiotics and pain killers that she is still on. Funds are also going towards her boarding and food.
Any updates that I have I will post as soon as I get them. It's going to be a long process to get her back to 'normal'.
Unfortunately I've not had the opportunity to get a clearer picture of her yet -but as soon as I do, I will post it, I promise.
Thank you all,
Hilli.Last edited: 2014-01-12 16:44:32 by Hilli - 2014-01-11 15:29 Bo

- It seems I posted under unknown .
Not sure how that happened.
Hope she is still holding her own poor girl. - 2014-01-09 23:38 Unknown
- Hilli thanks for the update.
She probably doesn't feel like eating if the liver count is up.
Once that starts coming down she will start feeling better.
I do pray this poor girl makes it.
Fingers crossed - 2014-01-09 22:05 Hilli
- Sorry for the late reply -I've only just got back from work:
This girl had a good night. She is eating but only a little but enough to ensure she is okay/safe with the strong antibiotic injections and painkillers that she is on.
She wagged her tail when Lyn visited her today and looked quite bright. - 2014-01-09 21:14 Bo

- Update: 08-Jan-2014 (Posted on behalf of Lyn, GSD Rescue West Essex)
Lyn has just transported this little lady from the vets to the kennels where she will have a quiet, isolated place to stay. The vet lives onsite so he can keep a close eye on her.
The vet says she is extremely lucky to be alive considering the turmoil she has been through.
We estimate her to be ~1 year old. She is a dark sable, short coat. She is not microchipped.
She survived the operation but has been put on very strong antibiotics as there was a lot of 'cleaning up' that had to be done inside her. Her liver enzymes are showing higher than normal results at the moment but that is not unexpected because her body is in a bit of toxic shock at the moment (hence the antibiotics). The vet will repeat the blood tests in about a weeks time. He expects the results to normalise with time.
She is a bit weaker on her legs today but that is because of the surgery she had yesterday. She is eating a little of what she fancies at the moment, which is chicken.
Her front leg will be reassessed in a few weeks and her pelvis left to heal naturally, as mentioned in earlier comment.
It will be a slow process but so far she is moving in the right direction.
Thank you for your support and donations. - 2014-01-08 03:25 Liz

- Posting an update on behalf of Lyn (German Shepherd Rescue West Essex):
Sadly this little girl was heavily pregnant but all the (many) puppies were dead and disintegrating in her body. Unfortunately her uterus had also ruptured. The vet is currently operating to clean her up inside. She has been under anaesthetic for a few hours. She is not out of the woods yet as there is always a risk of scepticaemia. However, she is holding up so far.
She has been x-rayed and her pelvis is not shattered, so she will not be operated on for this and it will be left to heal naturally. She will require pain relief medication and complete bed rest for the immediate future.
Her front leg is not paralysed but does have extensive nerve and muscle damage. There is a possibility that it will need to be removed but for now they are going to leave it as she is holding it on occasions and not 'dragging' it. They will leave it for a some weeks and then review again before making any such decision.
She may stay at the vets for a few days before being moved. I will post an update tomorrow.
Thank you for any donations. Everything will go towards the care and rehabilitation of this young girl. Last edited: 2014-01-07 18:15:54 by Hilli - 2014-01-07 12:35 Lorna

- Poor girl.
I will now add what I know about her.
Ok. I've just got off the phone to Lyn cook. She has spoken to the vets and there's a worrying report to give you:
So far, the 'tests' they have carried out have been inconclusive.
They think she is pregnant but that the puppies may be dead. They think she has broken her pelvis and this is obviously making the use of her back legs difficult. The front leg is paralysed but they think this could be just nerve damage. If not, there's talk of amputation.
Lyn is going to collect her tomorrow and take her into the care of West Essex GSD rescue. Tomorrow Lyn will take her to another vet who will scan her to see a) if she is pregnant and b) if the puppies are alive.
If the puppies are alive and over 5/6 weeks gestation, he will leave her to have her babies naturally and at full term. If they are dead inside her, he will operate to remove the poor little pups and Spey her at the same time.
To avoid more than one anaesthetic , he will x-ray to see what's going on with the pelvis and front leg. If the pelvis is broken, there's a good chance it will heal on its own. If it is shattered, he will have to go in surgically to try to repair it.
The x-ray on the front leg will reveal whether there's a break or if the paralysis is due to nerve damage. If its nerve damage, then the front leg will need to be amputated. That will depend on what they find with the pelvic examinations and x-ray.
Since being at the vet, I am told she had just been given pain relief , which is as far as the council will go towards costs. Any vet bills will be down to Lyn as West Essex GSD rescue.
There have been offers of financial help. If necessary (and we'll know after tomorrow), donations can be made via BIGGSD. Prople who prefer to donate directly to Lyn for her care can pay into her bank and I will get the details and post on here.
No doubt Lyn will post up once she has collected this little girl tomorrow - 2014-01-06 19:05 Angus

- So glad this dog is receiving some treatment.
I had not read all the posts sorry about that.
Is the photo you have too graphic to post.? - 2014-01-05 11:49 Angus
- she has received some treatment from the vets it is in one of my early updates - these are very good vets who often treat at their own cost in cases like this - there a lot more detail that I have been supplied with but at present we are looking for owners - I will have a new photo on Monday which I will post - I am currently holding the one vets sent went she was first admitted after the RTA
- 2014-01-05 11:19 Patlucky
- I know how you feel.
This dog was found on 30 December.
So have the vets given any treatment.
If not why not and how could they.
On the other hand we do not know.
One thing I do know is Pat at Mutts-in-Distress is doing all she can.
It is lovely that people are willing to give to help.
So please keep watching this space as we might need you.
Thanks

- 2014-01-05 09:35 Patlucky
- I posted this dog on BIGGSD site.
Please read as this is an answer from a dig rescue in the area.
Pat has said I could post it on here.
So below this line is copied and pasted Thanks.
Mutts in distress are aware of this dog as it's in our area.
If she was picked up within our boundary and remains unclaimed, then she will come to mutts in distress. If (as I think she may be) she was picked up in Epping forests area, then she will go to the RSPCA kennels in Waltham abbey via Lyn cook (west Essex Gsd rescue - Audlynton) on here.
Not sure yet who's responsibility this poor little mite will turn out to be. If its epping forests dog, I don't think they will pay for other than emergency treatment. Same if it is in our area. Harlow council usually only pay for emergency treatment.
If she is unclaimed, mutts in distress will the her if allowed but we already have a vet bill approaching £10,000 which we are paying off, plus if course any short fall in Sandys treatment will be net by mutts on distress, doing this poor girl comes to us, we would need an appeal to help with vets costs. But she would be safe, warm and welcome here.
Just depends who's 'stray' she turns out to be.
Patlucky, feel free to post my reply on dog lost. I see some on there have already offered help towards vet bill.
Love her she must be bewildered and in pain.
I'll ring the vets later to find out who's stray she is
Harlow (ours) or EFDC.
We had been notified as soon as she was taken to vet.
Hers hoping her mum finds her :fingers crossed:
