- well, the lovely dog was returned to a hunt Kennels in Maesteg near Bridgend. The man I saw ( who I briefly know, incidentally, as he was going to do some decking for me) knew the people who own the hunt kennels and he returned her.As I said earlier, I could absolutely kick myself as I should have saved this lovely girl from returning to a life of hunting.I rang the dog warden in the morning as, at the time, I had no idea she was a welsh fox hound; I thought she was a large bearded collie. I had her with my dogs overnight, washed her down, gave her a good dinner, and she slept in the my bedroom with my 3 collies.I went to see the man on Friday morning and begged him to give me the mobile number of the hunt kennels so that I could ask them to let me buy her from them.He point blank refused (needless to say, he won't be doing any decking for me this spring).I also have asked someone else who is familiar with this hunt and he tells me they will not part with a dog.
I feel particularly bad as I lost one of my lovely collies Maggie in the exact walk 2 years ago. people are telling me that I couldn't have domesticated her....she would have ruined the house....she would have run off hunting when out walking ( but I would have kept her on the lead)....all rubbish.I wish I had kept this dog and given her a chance of a better life......and I know you can't save them all. I have never had dealings with these 'fight the ban' hunt people, who I think are not good people at all. I have considered speaking to the police but what can they do......
I just feel so bad at the moment and just wish to god I had kept hold of this dog...... - 2014-01-18 11:21 Goldenfrodo

- Yes ......good advice thanks. Still trying to pursue things this weekend.
If they will part with the dog I would like to rehome her with mine as I really think she is a docile dog.
Not giving up just yet....... - 2014-01-17 21:30 fionap58
- .... sounds like a welsh foxhound? Could you go to the hunt kennels and see if the dog has been returned to it's owners and at least check that it's OK to put your mind at rest.

- No it transpired that it was a hound from a nearby hunt
It must have got lost when out yesterday and I found her at about 7pm........really kicking myself tonight that I didn't keep hold of her. The man who I bumped into this morning told me that 3 had gone missing on the mountain from the same pack yesterday. It wasn't chipped so whoever claimed to own her could not have proved it. It did very much have the appearance of a bearded rough type collie.
The man has rang his mate and told him I would consider giving him a cash incentive to part with her but I doubt they will now. As I said......kicking myself tonight - 2014-01-16 18:10 Tri's Mum

- Whilst walking the dogs this morning, including the one I found last night, a man I vaguely know came up to me and told me he knew who the dog belonged to. He rang his mate who said he would turn up and collect the dog, It is apparently a hound which belongs to a hunt in the Maesteg area. Like a stupid fool, I didn't think anything of it and the dog has been returned to the owner. However, it was not chipped so they cannot prove ownership. I really wish I had kept the dog this morning as I would likely have kept her myself or re homed her through work. I have been to see the man whom I vaguely know and asked him to ring the man to ask if I can rehome the dog but they are saying no.I have even offered them a cash payment for her as I really fell for the dog.
Do I have any right to go to the police about this? as I said I could really have kicked myself because I had already informed the dog warden in Neath port Talbot this morning..... - 2014-01-16 08:10 Sarah

- I found this poor little girl whilst out walking my 3 tonight. She had no collar on, is very thin and seemed to have been out in the rain for a long time. She looks like a hound/ bearded rough collie type. She has a lovely temperament and has been no trouble at all with my 3 in the house tonight. She does not however seem to have any understanding of commands like sit or stand. She was confused by the stairs indoors and I wonder whether this dog has lived in a house before....I may be wrong. A very pretty dog....her teeth are excellent; age about 3 or 4 at a rough guess.
