- Burtsmum thank you so so much... for saving my sanity. When you're in a total state of shock you don't know whether you saw what you saw or whether it was a dream and your information confirmed that what I witnessed was real and made me feel so much better and I had a bit of hope he'd be found alive.
As I said I'm pretty sure I know who did it, and then remembered seeing this pickup before in the summer parked up beside a field (it's not owned by my suspect, but probably a friend of his). so last week I popped in on a neighbour of this person, and asked him casually whether he'd seen it around - he immediately said, "yes - many times".
I asked him if it had ever been parked in the suspects drive, so he said he'd keep a look out and let me know. I didn't say anything about its connection to Monty.
To my great satisfaction, I saw a police car parked outside this person's property this afternoon. Hmmm. I reckon the police traced the pickup, it's owner grassed and now they're onto him. Good. We've been having minor problems with this individual and his family for years as have his neighbours. And, to my horror, have found out that the mother of this individual is a Parish Councillor - she uses her maiden name for her council duties.
Maybe things are going on behind the scenes and as my husband said, the apparent disinterest shown by the police over Monty's theft was so I didn't blow some other more serious investigation. Either that, or the families of parish councillors are the Untouchables.
Monty doing very well - we found his 'bally' (bouncy red ball) under a chest of drawers which had been missing for weeks... Great joy! He's got a good memory as he looked a bit bored so I asked him where it was and he went straight to the chest and scrabbled his paws - knew where it was but couldn't get it out. Such a clever dog.
Nanny Byron thank you too for your kindness and interest. The person(s) who stole him are probably too thick to know about Dog Lost, so It was a silly idea of mine ITFP - a touch of paranoia - but under the circumstances I hope you'll excuse it. The thieves have no idea how many people are on Monty's case which is great. I want them NAILED.
Monty sends you all his love and hopes other people and their dogs are reunited like he was. Dog Lost ROCKS!
PS Helen thanks for removing my full address. Donation sent, more to come next month - it's been expensive.

- Well done burtsmum for being vigilant and taking the time to report what you saw.
Think of the hundreds of thousands of truck drivers in the UK alone...if more of them were followers of doglost imagine all the 'eyes' and 'ears' we have out there.. :o) - 2014-02-02 23:09 burtsmum
- I cannot tell you how happy I am to see this post. I am the said truck driver!! Who I believe I saw Monty. I have been really busy all week doing long hours and had not checked. I spoke to them both at the start of the week giving words of support and encouragement. I cant wait to talk to them tomorrow. So so pleased. well done also Doglost you do an amazing job.x

- Iceni - I too have been following the Monty story, out of genuine interest. I am on the DogLost site everyday, yes it's an addiction now! I was hoping to see the reunited photo of Monty but for some reason it's not coming up on here. I am so pleased that he is back to normal, he looks adorable and it's understandable how you can be 'totally off your trolley' over him. Same as Abe babe, be assured, my intentions are honourable. Hugs for Monty.

- Dear Abe Babe, I do apologise... It just struck me as strange in view of the circumstances. Please follow away - it's nice to know nice people like you are concerned for his welfare.
He's completely back to normal now. Just as cheeky, lovable and mischievous as before. I'm totally off my trolley about this dog :-) but then aren't we all? Thank you for letting me know. xxx - 2014-01-30 07:37 Abe babe
- Iceni, I am one of Montys' followers. I continued to 'follow' because I was genuinely interested in the case and any further news. Fear not, my intentions are honorable. :o)

- Retract that "the police are taking the matter seriously". I had the phone put down on me by a Sgt Miller this morning when I asked when they were coming to take a statement. They'd phoned and promised to do so on Saturday, I waited in all day when I needed to look for my dog, but no one bothered to show up.
So it's all down to the rather infamous Frankham family of East Anglia, to whom one of the landladies of Newmarket is related. One of her relatives looked at the poster I'd left in her pub and said Monty's theft "made him VERY angry and he'd see about the matter..."
Actually, I can see his point: The Traveller/Gypsy community are always getting the blame for dog thefts and they may not be behind this at all.
I notice I still have 2 followers reading this page - despite the fact that Monty has been found - if you are the two people who took Monty and are following this to assess the investigation's progress, it appears the Frankhams are on your case, enjoy:
http://www.fenlandcitizen.co.uk/news/latest-news/man-denies-involvement-in-death-in-trial-of-west-norfolk-family-1-5796978
Furthermore, having come out of the shock and thinking more clearly, I have belatedly realised who they are as I recognised the driver who is a local, but, without the help of the police and their forensic lab, can't prove it. Next time (if there is a next time) they'll go too far and hopefully they'll be nailed for good. The slightest problem and I'm visiting that Newmarket landlady again.
Of course, if my two followers are just interested bystanders, I apologise and thank you for your interest... we're very impressed with everyone on Dog Lost.

- Helen - you are an ANGEL. I'd like to nominate you for a 'People's Dame' if that is still going. You've brought my family and other animals so much comfort and happiness again, after what was one of the worst experiences in my life.
Monty's going everywhere on a lead from now on, and won't be allowed in the garden at all without one, until it's fenced in or he's got this collar thing. Never Again!
Sure some of my dogs have strayed or gone off piste on a walk in the past for a couple of hours and it's been a worry (I've had 6 dogs during my lifetime) or died of natural causes/old age, but this time he'd been deliberately stolen which was just excruciating.
Another thing - I badly want some more Montys out there... if anyone has a suitable pedigree Border Terrier wife for him, please get in touch with me on this page. He's got a good pedigree and is KC registered and very affectionate temperament and not at all the usual 'terrier' snappy or yappy dog. His biggest ambition is to be a BIG dog - won't happen Mont, but dream on....

- You are all fantastic people - really good.
It was entirely down to Dog Lost we found him so quickly. He was in a Pound 27 miles away. They'd posted a photo of him to Dog Lost and Helen said "That's Monty!" so the pound got in touch at around 11am. they said they were actually closed on Sundays but would make an exception for Monty. We asked them to check his little pink mole on his tummy and there it was. So off we drove to get him.
The people who took him deliberately ripped off his collar ID tag so he couldn't be identified. Sick sick sick. Can't say much more apart from the police are on his case and so don't want to muck that up with more information.
He was really freaked out but once we put him in his car and it was all familiar again he was fine. He's had his dinner and some of our left over lunch and is fast asleep at my feet as I type this. Tired but happy little dog. What is so sweet is our other dog and cats are so relieved too. They were very subdued yesterday and day before. Something was wrong!
Microchip first thing tomorrow morning at vets - then I'm going to do a victory lap of Newmarket to thank all the kind people in the pubs and clubs with Monty and say they can take their posters down and FB & Twitter the good news.
I'm going to try this collar thing which stops them going beyond their garden and when I get some proper money will definitely dog proof the front garden - back is not so bad.
One tiny gripe - it's a strange country where the VICTIM of a crime has to pay £83 fine to recover their property... and btw, it has since come to light that the police are taking the matter quite seriously - they can't give too much info out while an inquiry is ongoing, so maybe we misunderstood their attitude at the time.
But who cares - tonight I'll be snuggling up to my little Mont beside me on my pillow - yes I know... not good discipline. But can't sleep properly without him there.
Lastly thank you all SOOOOO much. Your help and support really kept me going And what a fairytale ending!!!
:-) :-) :-)
PS a hefty donation to Dog Lost will be forthcoming once my pension arrives at the end of the month.Last edited: 2014-01-27 19:07:52 by Iceni - 2014-01-26 18:26 Nanni Byron

- Thank you all for all your kindness and help. Who knows? If we kick up a big enough fuss, they might just turn him loose. I've heard people steal and use ordinary dogs to train their attack fighting dogs... too horrible.
If they do let him go, I know Monty would approach a friendly person and the crucial thing is that little white star on his chest so even if you find a dead Monty it would give closure to me - I've never seen another BT with one - and he's a very unusual BT as his fur is smooth not hairy or fluffy and never needs stripping. He smells of hedgerows.
I have sent a note to Clare police of the A reg matter so thank you Abe Babe - the police seem to have trouble tracing vehicle which we have narrowed down to a Hilux Toyota pick-up with cover (look up on Google) in Royal Metallic Blue (a lorry driver saw it about, 1 1/2 hours earlier turning off A14 Newmarket exit for A11 east - heading Thetford, Brandon, Red Lodge. Exactly same description of car, driver + passenger). He even saw animals peeping out of back cab window and straw and mud like the one which took my dog.
Also Bunch - Please post that Cambridgeshire number - I would prefer an email so I can attach my pdf poster which I've distributed in Newmarket - crowded Saturday night clubs and pubs, young people, so just maybe... some nice girls immediately photo'd Poster and sent it on a FaceBook alert.
Tomorrow I will head for the big garage on the roundabout on A11 and put up posters there. The thieves obviously use that road and may even be locals in the Red Lodge area. I feel the CAR is the crucial thing here, please look out for it, it's unusual. REMEMBER THAT NP - A••• LUD - it's fairly high up and central on back of vehicle, not hanging below chassis. If you have a mobile phone photo it if parked or driving along if poss. I can enhance it here to show police.
Once again pray for Monty's safety and I'm trying to stay strong and proactive. I was amazed how kind people were in Newmarket - one lady in a betting shop made me a cup of tea and BP garage wouldn't take any money for a takeaway coffee. They put my poster right on the counter in a proper holder.
Here's hoping... And you've all been SO KIND. I've been receiving Dog Lost emails for a couple of years and always check up on every one of them.
Brilliant site.Last edited: 2014-01-26 02:32:26 by Iceni - 2014-01-25 17:47 Helen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge

- Try contacting Countryside Watch which is run by Camb police, they put out messages to mobile phones of members and can give details of vehicle, etc. if you want tel no let me know and I will post it.

- So sorry to see Monty is missing. I live in Hundon so not far away if I can do anything to help (thought currently dealing with poorly parents). If he has been stolen then I hope it might help to know that re your number plate info: A is used as the first character in all registrations issued by the three offices located in the vicinity of East Anglia;.. so that might improve your chances of locating this vehicle. I presume you've informed the police, and if this vehicle is from the region at least, then I would suggest very quickly contacting local radio and newspapers?
