Was unable to post on here but did speak to Cherrelle via texts. I am SO very pleased and happy. To all those who told Cherrelle it couldn't happen, to all those who disbelieved, this is your proof. Well done Cherrelle - you did it! Well done Shelagh - I cannot emphasise enough how a loving owner can be so distraught they are unable to function when their beloved pet gets lost and how much they need support and people like you. Welcome home sweet Rufus! Hope you are truly on the mend now sweetie. xxxLast edited: 2014-04-23 20:02:41 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Wow, this has made my day. Welcome home Rufus, I bet this is the best mothers day present yet! :)
Cherrelle
Rufus has been found!!!!!! He was handed in this morning buy a person who spotted him gave us a call and brought him to us. He's been taken to the local vet, and has been given a clean bill of health with the exception of an understandable runny tummy. He's lost a bit of weight and his mini superman muscle have gone but once he's settled after a week or two I'm sure we can work in getting his Heath and fitness back up to speed. He arrived at 11am, he's had food and water and has demanded some play time with his favourite squeaky toy. Just like a child he's fighting to go to sleep, I'm just waiting for the dinky bugger to get some shut eye.

Thank you to EVERYONE with all your help, loving thoughts and motivation to help me get this little boy home. I can't stop staring at him and I can't believe my eyes. Is been 7 weeks and 5days since Rufus decided to go on a big adventure. It's been 7weeks and 5days since my world stood still. I've just got my world back!!

Last but not least: One special Thankyou to SHELAGH SAVAGE. You have been there every single day for me. Without you I would have crumbled over the pressure a long time ago. I consider you a friend for life and if there was anything to gain from this who ordeal it would 100 times over be that I got to meet you! You've been a friend/mother/councillor/planner/chief brains/muscle and so much more... You realise your stuck with me for life right?!?!

Love you all, please keep shining brightly

To Rufus Hunters. I've been on a google trip round the roads in vicinity of Albany Road. What I have noticed is as you come out of Ordnance and turn left into Hertford just over the ? brook, the 1st parade of shops that you come to has 5 cafe/ takeaways/ restaurants in a parade of 11 shops before it reaches St. Stephens. At the back of those shops there is an access road for the shops which may also lead down to the ?brook (I can't see ) but a possible food source and heat from trunking. There is also another access road at the back of the shops from St Stephens to Albany Road. I realise Google map is well out of date and things have probably changed but if it's anything like our smalll town centres there are probably even more food places and coffee bars now. Hope you get some good news today, come on Rufus go over Albany park and sunbathe so somebody can see you.

FEMALE yorkie found N17 today ID 66746.
Shelagh
Actually virtually the whole area is a building site. Flats are being refurbished and built all over the area. I will pass onto Cherrelle. We have searched there but some places are inaccessible to humans
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
BRAINSTORMING, thinking about these cold/frosty nights and mornings, wonder if Rufus has found a source of heat. Somewhere where heating is running 24/7, a boiler room say at a school premises , swimming pool, old folks complex, anywhere that is brick built as bricks hold the heat. Are there any building sites in the sighting areas, could he be visiting any of those. Brain dead now. XXLast edited: 2014-03-28 07:30:48 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
BigGSDPatlucky
fingers crossed any news?
Shelagh
Cherrelle is aware of found female yorkie. Will pass other info about possible water source on to her now. Thanks
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
On "yorkieslostandfound" site a FEMALE yorkie was cross posted yesterday as being found in Enfield, but I couldn't back track to original post to see how old it was and by whom, perhaps some other clever person can !! Back to google map, not sure if this could possibly be a water supply. Between Connop road and Bell lane, (bottom LH area of Albany park then left ) there appears to be a small circular pond/paddling pool that lies between what looks like a school and a Sports complex on Hertford road. It could be some sort of round shelter not sure, could one of Rufus helpers take a look please. Come on Rufus stop mucking about!!!!
Shelagh
Rufus description is recorded at batter sea as well as chip. Also all others and local dog wardens and vets have description and photo. Every few weeks I e-mail them all just to let them know he still missing. There was another sighting of Rufus a few weeks ago at the top of Albany road. This was only relayed to Cherrelle today.I'm sure Cherrelle would appreciate your help if you can spare some time at weekend. I'm posting on her behalf as she doing stake out on possible food source
Ann
Not in any way said to worry you, but microchips aren't infallible. Keep checking with Battersea, or Wood Green, or wherever your local authority might take a stray.

I may be available Friday night/ Saturday morning if you think it would help.
BigGSDPatlucky
I have like many others been following Rufus story.
If he finds his way home would it be easy for him to get in the garden area or to a door.
I am so hoping he will be back soon.

Cherrelle
Yes microchip details are up to date.. I left shortly after the rambled post I sent last night. I've been out with Shelagh today. We're still trying to establish food sources /shelter and water. Naturally we've checked thoroughly under all the bushes. We were out till 4pm before heading back (too many school kids at the time) I've come back to a food source at 6pm I'm doing another early as it's due to rain from 2pm throughout the entire night. I will be here till it rains. Hopefully Rufus will show his face tonight xxLast edited: 2014-03-24 19:45:04 by Cherrelle

Don't come back to me BUT are Rufus chip details up to date? Went on a tour round Ordanance rd area last night( via google earth map ) and can see why you get the negative responses from the locals. Shame they don't do a live google earth. Don't suppose council have CCTV in the area.XX

I'd say go home, Rufus is in somewhere dry and probably curled up tight and asleep. My girl only went out for wees and was straight back in, no fox/cat watch tonight.
Chris63
Oh Cherrelle I have been following your story on Rufus and praying that he shows his little face. You are tremendous and are doing a fantastic job. Come on Rufus time to show yourself and go home. Keep you chin up Cherrelle. X
Cherrelle
I've been told it's meant to get to -3 tonight. I'm really worried as yorkies are terrible with cold weather. I've started the evening search at 6.30pm and still out. The rain has been on and off since 7.30pm. It's been hard to decide to stay out or not as it's either pouring down or suddenly stopping. I won't be doing the 3-8am tonight as it will be far too cold for him to move around... It's soo cold as we speak. I'm sitting next to a food source near Malvern road but I've just realised I've not seen any animals at all the past hour, which is unusual as I normally see a cat every 10 mins. Looks like it's to cold for them too, should I stay out or go home? It's stopped raining, but there's no cats/foxes in sight.
Shelagh
Just to add to past comments we are systematically eliminating roads around Rufus last sighting for regular food source. We have not identified one yet. The area as has been mentioned is a maze of alleyways and public footpaths. Also during last gales a lot of fencing has blown down leaving back gardens open. We have searched every bush hidey hole derelict house, under cars ,bin cupboards and everywhere else flyers and posters are still being given out and everyone we meet spoken too. We do not believe Rufus is based in ordinance road, but in one of many others near by. Cherrelle is working non stop to find Rufus and mainly is a one man band. I can only help her for a few hours at weekends and occasionally one afternoon weekdays. Her boyfriend is helping her when he can. If she had more people on board I'm sure we would have found Rufus by now, but the area is so big.Cherrelle will not stop searching for Rufus until she finds him,and I will support her all the way in her quest to find him. Hope that will be soon.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Ann I can only imagine what it must be like for Cherrelle who is obviously one of the committed searchers for their pet and thank you for helping her. Years ago I would have put my bike in my car and joined in as well, I can't walk far so am more of a liability, plus I gave my bike to the kids next door.Last edited: 2014-03-23 18:10:00 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Ann
I was out last Saturday with Cherrelle and have to add I've never seen anyone so dedicated to searching for her dog. Seriously concerned as to Cherrelles health, she's gone without sleep, utterly exhausted herself. If I could help every day I would. Fingers crossed for another sighting soon, sweetheart.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Any sheltered housing with gardens in your search area? I know residents aren't allowed animals but some residents are animal lovers and adopt stray cats, they provide outside shelter put food out and let them in if weather is bad, also feed birds and foxes, at least that's what happens in the complex behind my back garden. Also taken a poorly cat to vets. Shame about the locals but I'd guess they aren't dog friendly. I can see from the google map what you are up against with the cul de sacs cut throughs and maze of roads, it doesn't help him being so small, if I had a magic wand (instead of a broomstick) I'd turn him into a Great Dane ,bet he'd get sighted then. Well Rufus I've found loadsa new sites to look on for you while your Mum is out searching and I've also bought a pair of £1 glasses from the £ shop to make looking at maps easier. Good Luck Cherrellle hope you get another sighting soon, you deserve it. XXLast edited: 2014-03-23 18:09:01 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Cherrelle
It's mostly a residential area. There are chicken shops etc on ordanance road itself. They have all been made aware. There is loads of rubbish bins scattered all over the area which I check daily. It's hard to eliminate any of them as cats/foxes all have a go at the bins too
DogLostNina
In your posterings are there any pubs, bars, cafe's, food banks that have been done.
Cherrelle
No, we've not managed to pin point his food source, that's what we're looking for every day. There are just too many possibilities as there is a lot of trash in the area. The connecting footpaths make it difficult to figure out possible movements to help narrow down which food sources to focus on.
BigGSDPatlucky
He might be near and hiding.
Check under bushes etc.
Praying for his safe return
DogLostNina
In all this time have you managed to pin point anywhere that could be his food source
BigGSDPatlucky
Cherrelle I have been following your lovely dog Rufus.
Please please please do not give up.

We are all behind you and praying he will be found soon.

To Bernadette, I apologise truly form the bottom of my heart that I wasn’t able to respond to your 2 previous txts of the found yorkies. I feel you deserve an explanation: They both had been confirmed as not Rufus on previos posts if you were to scroll down, however this is not the reason for not responded to you, on both occasions you have contacted me when Im out searching. If you read previous posts, im also searching through out the night. Without giving me 24hours to respond to your last txt you sent a message today 20mins after setting home from a 3am-8am search. I quote “I have sent texts to you to look at a couple of yorkies. I have found three more, but as I have had no response, I will assume Rufus has been found and stop searching. Could you let doglost know he as been found” I really am trying to do my best, its demoralising knowing that you would withhold information because I failed to be on top of everything (no sarcasm, I really mean it) you know he’s still missing as we a all still communicating on doglost coming up with ideas. Ive been upto date with sightings and always mentioned what im doing to find him. If anyone else can relate to the message sent to me today I apologies to you also, as ive failed in showing my appreciation to each and every one of you. xxLast edited: 2014-03-22 22:04:50 by Cherrelle
Cherrelle
Ah a quick thank you for all the calls/suggestions and shout out for other found yorkies. I get calls on a regular basis as well as post on doglost with people trying to help. I am lucky that people like you guys exist as despite my motivation/hope being challenged, right now I am soooo exhausted/shattered/zombied its taking its toll. I know you all aware that I spend most of the day behind/buried in bushes (sounds so wrong) with twigs stuck in my hair and thorns tearing most of my clothes, that im not able to make a regular appearance on doglost. If im not searching im face down passed out, forgetting where I am/who I am/what day it is when a phone call wakes me up mid sleep. If I’ve not got back to you please give me another quick call. Im a one ‘man’ band searching/confirming pictures/chasing calls. Im so lucky I have people like shelagh and people like all of you helping me with the load of the internet side of things as you all know im really trying to do more than just my best to find Rufus. xx
Cherrelle
hi everyone, since wednesday night ive been doing the 3am-8am searches. also today shelagh came down to help me to try and connect some of the dots to all the allys interlinking the roads, we found a maze upon maze of quiet dark cut throughs.

me n my girl: to answer you question yes we take a look every day on the ordanance road end of albany park, as well as the other 2 connecting allys further down. from day 1 we have and continue to speak to everyone in our path, this includes dog owners, no one is left out. the dodgy kids/guys that move in packs are the ones i run up to first so they know my story and wont use him for bating. when i do my night rounds i drive/walk up EVERY connecting street to ordance road on a daily basis :) i thought the banner was a good idea, however due to the area and the residence it would fall in the 10% chance of anyone agreeing. shelagh and Jenny can confirm as they've witnessed first hand what the local people are like. its so difficut to get a flyer in their hand let alone a banner on their front lawn. if it was the other side of enfield (willow road) would have been a different story. xxx

thanks hazel for tweeting as i dont have an account and not sure how to use it. a big thanks to all the people whos posted sending love Rufus's way. xxx

Cherrelle, we never know for sure what has happened to our dogs until we actually do know. If we don't try, we certainly will not know. Those who are making you sad really have no idea, its not their fault, they just don't know what we know. DogLost has been doing this for over 10 years. We know for a fact that dogs get home! We cannot guarantee every dog will be found or in what condition, but many, many times if the owner keeps trying, things do come to light - quite often with the dog at the end of it. You only have to look at some of "reuniteds" to see a lot of what your family & friends may call miracles, just as they might when Rufus gets home! All you can do, is your best. Whilst you still get calls of sightings, you keep going. You will feel when its time to slow up, if it ever is, but its definitely not now. Just pace yourself and keep hope alive in your heart. One thing to remember, wherever Rufus is, he is your dog. Always. Nothing can ever take him from your heart or his from yours. Hang in there. Luv Kim x
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
excellant advise Nina as if in gardens at owners permission it cannot be taken down or maybe if house close to path in a front window facing out. Follow Kimmybear's advice and if more sightings plot them on a map to see where heading.
BigGSDPatlucky
Look in everyday.
Fingers crossed .
Love to see this dog reunited

Unable to help in the search, but please keep going - look at how long some other dogs are lost before being reunited. I can't imagine the hell you are going through but I know that if it were one of my chi's, I would move heaven and earth like you! We are all rooting for you,
Springer sharon
I can only offer verbal support but it comes from the heart........ Keep going Cherrelle. Don't give up, you are doing an amazing job and your little man will be found it's just a question of time. No one deserves a positive result more, just don't give up
DogLostNina
The idea below about asking people if you can put a board up in there front garden with a poster on it is a good one. My husband made me a board which is in the front garden for doglost posters and you would be amazed how many people look at it. Its been there for years and no coucil has given me any hassle

DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Me again. Have you been into Ordanance road end of Albany Park (with lead) and spoken to dog walkers who I think would be most helpful when it comes to keeping their eyes open for Rufus. If you keep calling him, you never know and some may help you search. Some may even live on Ordanance Road and let you put a poster up in their garden. You could even give them a slip of paper with your phone no. on, most of our dog walkers carry their mobs with them. Last edited: 2014-03-20 09:03:46 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer

There is a Yorkie cross gone missing in Leyton E10, female, just incase you get a call about a sighting that way. I admire your perseverence in your search and agree 100% with Jennys comments.(Every area needs a Jenny & co.) What you need is some dog loving residents in Ordanance Road that would allow you to put a poster up in their garden, council wouldn't pull them down. I wonder if Rufus is hanging around Ordanance Rd area thinking he is in Carterhatch Lane (both run West to EAST). When he was sighted 18/2 Blackhorse pub you said that was just round the corner from you, the latest sighting may be about same distance from Hertford Rd if you see what I mean and he is trying to find his way home. Anyway enough of my ramblings I'm going to see if I can find a site that offers any info about how lost dogs act, good luck for today XX Last edited: 2014-03-20 08:52:42 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer

The council public bin guys have been flyered (again) the resident bin collectors have also just turned up. I'm setting off home now as the bin trucks make a lot of noise and I'm guessing it will put Rufus into hiding?

There is a missing cat in the same area. I've noticed that more of Rufus posters has disappears and seem to be replaced?Last edited: 2014-03-20 06:41:32 by Cherrelle

There's never been anyone to help do the nights, my bf helps when he can can but does 12 hour shifts and my family gave up weeks ago. It's really hard to so an all night then do a full day as I still have to show my face so people know he's still missing. People around here are very quick to laugh/tell me he's dead/stolen and I'll never see him again etc. it weighs me down even though it's easy to say it shouldn't. I'm sorry to sound so negative in this post, it's hard to pretend all the time that I'm coping with it all when the truth is I was barely coping before he went missing. It's hard smiling at people handing out flyers when I just don't feel like smiling.

I started walking up and down ordnance 3:30am. There are a few people on way to work (builders etc) buy 99% have walked circles around me when trying to flyer them. I've just jumped back in my car to warm up. It just started to get bright around 15minutes ago. I'll start driving up and down. I won't put out water till next evening. It's bin/street cleaning day today and they removed all the water spot last time. I'll be here till 8am. And don't worry everyone, I'll keep looking till it kills me! Xx
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
I fully agree with everything you have said Kimmybear and water also needs to be left as it is now very dry in this area. Rufus is being very cagy but glad he is being seen despite the council taking the posters down. Cherrelle you cannot do anymore than you are - you deserve to get Rufus home.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Excellent news re sighting! So, you know he comes out early, so be out at first light whenever you can. He will pass that way again. Maybe, take it inturns to sit and watch that one area every single morning. Leave some food there if you can, maybe bushes? Safe area away from the road. It needs to be smelly so he'll find it, and watch. Do not chase. Remember he's been in the wild now, so it will take a while to recognise you. Don't worry about that, but you must NOT chase. he is in survival mode so will probably scarper. Slowly does it. Watch and wait. Do the scenting there too, but as said before, away from the road so he stays put away from the road. If there is no where away from the road, don't scent unless you can do a trail along a footpath to home or a safe place. You need to be clever with this as safety is paramount before scenting. Great news! x

Quick thanks for all the suggestions. Since day 1 we've searched under every bush in our path and left no stone unturned. We've put posters/door to door flyers/ shops, churches etc as well as face to face approaching. People see us there almost every day so the are aware were still looking. I thought the stickers on the posters were a good idea but the council are taking the posters down faster than we can get them up so I think stickers won't have anything to stick to at this rate. We have stopped every postman we bump into and hand them a flyer, most seem willing to keep an eye out. Xx
Cherrelle
I just got a call that Rufus had been spotted around 7am this morning on ordnance road across the road from the library! He was spotted by a 14 year old boy who's not familiar with the area. He was only able to call now as saw a flyer on the floor. Big thanks to enfield council for taking most of my posters Down to yet again delay reports.

I've been in the area most of the afternoon and having to reluctantly head back to charge phone and use the loo. The boy didn't see where he went after that but at least we know he's not crossed over the tracks.

I'll be doing the grave yard shift tonight hopefully I'll spot him, I'm hoping we'll get him before the wether turns this Friday,
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
I've also updated the poster to say "Rufus Still Missing" and also that "he has been seen in this area" as this will apply to wherever you put them and even if not, it will make people think and keep an eye out. Good thinking to all of you - there are some very good ideas below! I anyone can pop Rufus on any fb groups, I'm sure Cherrelle woul dappreciate that. x
BigGSDPatlucky
I hoped he would be found by now like most.
I feel for the owners must be so worried.
If the general direction is known where he went.
He could be hiding under bushes near to his home.
Just not sure how to get back.
Nice to leave a gate open.
They do sometimes manage to find their way back.
Fingers crossed here
Ann
Try www.streetlife.com - Enfield has 281 followers, Enfield Lock has 85 ... I get daily updates for my local area, varied stuff, recommend a cleaner, etc. It's like a local gossip site. Also, your local Royal Mail sorting office - ask if they could put a poster up in their tea room or loo's or similar. These guys are paid to walk the streets on a daily basis - they'd notice a new dog in someones house, or stray. Brainstorming here. Take care, Cherrelle, contact me if I can do any printing etc for you. Compose a nice letter to send with leaflets to local offices or schools asking for their help.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Brainstorming ideas needed. Small flyer put through doors in areas of Ordnance Road where Rufus has been sighted, asking people to help you by looking in their gardens (front and back) and sheds etc or corners where he could possibly be making home, explain he is size of small cat/smaller. Is he tripping security lights of a night. Have there been any morning sightings? Tug at their heart strings. Lots of people don't walk anywhere so may not have seen posters in detail. You could also ask if anybody has recently acquired a tiny yorkshire terrier that isn't a puppy as sightings have been in their area. Could he have returned to the Bullsmoor area if you haven't had any recent luck with scenting or sightings. Iknow lost greyhounds that I've followed on here mainly move around early mornings, late evenings and at night, does Rufus like being out of a night. Please try and take a break from "street walking", take a few drops of Bach Rescue Remedy and get off the treadmill for a few hours. I think Anns idea re. the stickers makes good sense. I've tried to find a local website for Enfield residents but didn't have any luck, but then I'm not a "lorra" good on this machine. Cherrelle - I've been thinking about Rufus a lot over the weekend. People I spoke to on Saturday while walking around had seen posters and I certainly saw lots of posters up. But I did get the comments "Oh, is he still missing"? May I suggest you print up some stickers with "Still Missing" and todays date on them, to go on existing posters? People could be under the impression that he's been found and ignore posters, or take them down. Or they might think this is a hopeless mission not realising that there has been a fairly recent sighting. I have lots of stickers at my office and would be willing to print and send to you.
Another thought - I did put a poster through a couple of letterboxes of the offices on the Estate I went to, and there is a big Leisure complex on that site with a notice board. It might be worth posting some of your little posters to these offices asking if they would be willing to have the posters up in their loo's .....
I think, at the moment, without a good recent sighting you really are working blind. Your efforts might be better spent in raising local awareness and waiting for a confirmed sighting rather than exhausting yourself walking the streets. I do feel for you - your love for your dog is very clear. xxxxLast edited: 2014-03-17 14:07:53 by Ann

Rufus searchers sorry you didn't have any luck yesterday. Did Jenny and dogs pick up any scent on their last visit.? From google earth map of Ordnance road area/Albany Park/ Bullsmoor Estate I can see why it's so hard to get any sightings, especially as "the boy" is so small. Has anybody done a map of sightings/ scenting pick ups and times seen, to try to plot his movements. Thank you to everybody that is supporting Cherrelle in her search.

HELP WANTED!!!!

we're looking for as many volunteers as possible to physically help search for Rufus this Saturday 14/3/14 around 12noon. We want to form a radius around the last sighting and work our way in searching every bush/street etc. we know we're close, like SUPER CLOSE. There just too many slip roads for us to cover alone.

If your available and want to help please send me a quick txt. We'll be meeting in Albany park where the steps are to cross over the rail at 12noon. If you can ask friends/ family to help the more the better.

Please kimmybear can you bump up Rufus post so people can be aware of the mass search Saturday xx

Thank you everyone for all your efforts, it's just a matter of time before we find him xx

Nice one Yvonne, were defo on the same page as we've already done that. The fish and chip shop you mentioned has Rufus poster in there :) were also aware of the alleys that connect Albany. Cherrelle and co. have you looked at a google map of Ordnance Road EN3? Take a breather and have a look it might give you some fresh ideas. You know all the sightings and times that you think are Rufus, you could plot them on the map and try and think like a dog. I know in the last 2 weeks he's been seen in Malvern and Ferndale and I think there is a fish shop in Ordanance road in that area, perhaps a source of food. Ask chippies to put a poster in their window for you. Are the local Church of St. Peter & Paul aware and also The Chesterfield School. If you look at Albany Park in far right hand corner I think there may be a green alley that runs at the back of the houses and between railway line that he could possibly use to get up to Enfield Lock Stn. I know it's only possibilities and it looks so easy on a map. I just wish I was local and could help.Last edited: 2014-03-13 13:21:45 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer

Sorry everyone for not being on here as much, I've been doing a lot of hours searching with Shelagh. The stake outs are catching up on me. Were a little worried and frustrated as we just don't know which direction to follow, this has been the first week of good weather and he could have travelled quite a distance, plus this place (ordanance road area) is like a maze.

As for Devon dog, defo not Rufus but thanks for bringing it to our attention. I've not had time to do a FB page for him, due to the hours I'm physically looking for him, but I also have no idea how to do one. Id love for someone to talk me through it.

Chris: Initially meant to be early this week but she is a super busy lady on high demand. I actually got in contact with jenny and Tiga today, she said they will be down soon :)

Lastly, I'm working on getting a halo scanner as I keep finishing dogs. Plus it eases my occasional paranoia that Someone has him, then I can whip it out and check!!

Early one for me tonight, already face down on bed.

Chris

Posters are pretty much everywhere around there and all of Enfield most people know Rufus is missing. Cherrelle has done an amazing job with keeping Rufus in limelight.we gave a lot of flyers to postmen meals.on.wheels delivery men etc.there have been a few sightings around malvern, and fern ale road, last week, but latest was Albany park on Thursday, this was a confirmed sighting.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Bumping up for sightings and food stake out. Well done Cherrelle. Well done on doing the right thing for your "found" dog too. Let's hope someone does the same for you & Rufus. Re fly posting. Councils can be awkward sometimes, but at the end of the day, you are not really fly posting because they will be removed once Rufus is found. Fly posting is where people have no intention of removing them & generally, refers to businesses looking for free advertising. If the council has a heart, missing pet posters should be fine. However, IF the council does contact you, you need to be aware that you may have to oblige. But, there are other ways of getting posters out there like you are already - in pet shops, in car windows, in taxis, in newsagents, on any privately owned land like schools (if they let you), parking areas, etc. But unless the council contacts you, there is no problem. You are doing fantastically well! x

Have post offices been postered?
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Has Rufus got his own facebook page? Are all Rufus sightings mentioned on this page? I've been trying to note his sightings and times and looking at them on a google map of Enfield. Do you think it was Rufus up in the Bullsmoor area, because if he was he could be heading or be up that way now. There appears to be 3 footpaths leading from Albany park across Turkey brook leading to Ordnance Road, have these been postered as I'd think it would be mainly dog walkers that used them. Rufus you're a little monkey, you've had your fun, now give yourself up.Last edited: 2014-03-10 21:10:36 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer

Someone seems to be taking them down in private places (Jollyes, numerous small pet stores and in private enfield business windows (some I put up) and when I asked the owners of all of them they said 'oh we know about that missing dog we have a poster... that's strange it's gone missing'
I've put any taken down back up and Jollyes let me put one up right at their entrance so most doggy people will see it. If you get any sightings give me a call or text and I'll come down :-)

I found a blue/champagne with white feet and chest. full male staff last night (3am ish) on Corner of Hadrians ride. He's wearing a black spike collar. I waited 40minutes before taking him home. I'm just posting him on all the relevant sites inc DogLost then will be heading down to medivet to hand him over.

Update: post is up for him, although pics are not going through properly

Hi everyone, primopetservice which vets have taken the posters down? I'll be calling them Monday morning for an explanation. Also the council have taken down around 85% of our posters. If it wasn't for Shelagh being around since the beginning you'd think all my efforts were a lie.
There is a huge rumour that enfield council is taking me to court for fly tipping. It's totally false (for now) please if the rumour comes your way to swiftly correct them. I've heard people are writing to the council complaining on my behalf, it's just drawing unnecessary attention to the hundred of posters (what's left of them) already out.

After a walk around with Shelagh today. I'm doing a stake out near a possible food source. I'll stay out for as long as possible but I'm freezing already. I need to save phone battery so won't be able to respond to posts till the morning.

Please everyone don't forget about Rufus, he's still missing and were continuing to do everything we can to get him back

We guessed as much from her relaxed attitude and pretending to put her coat on to go out and get him. Except we had almost run him over so he's in allot of danger. Tempted next time I catch him to attach a collar to him with a note 'next time I almost run your dog over im keeping him' lol

DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Cherrelle, I think you now have an angle to get a story in the papers - think about it - look at what you've gone through just trying to locate the dog warden. Especially as its the law to report a found dog, how can people do that if they don't even answer to the missing ones. Use it to your advantage. Also, whilst tracker dogs are good at picking up scents, DogLost cannot endorse this because it doesn't always work & DogLost doesn't want to give false hope. However, this is entirely down to owners whether they wish to do this. Anything is worth a try but do NOT give up on other ways either. Well done and keep at it! We never say never on DogLost. x
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Also, unclaimed dogs quite often go to "All Dogs Matter" from Waltham Forest - if from Enfield. x

Lets hope they scan the dogs properly too. I had to point out to the vet that she hadn't scanned lost dog Puhi properly last week as she'd just done uo and down his back- the correct method is a full body scan and she then found his chip on the side of his neck!
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Crazy isn't it, lost Enfield, pick up Waltham Forest, taken to Tottenham Hale which comes under Harringey. No wonder so many lost and found don't get re-united. None of which I don't think get posted anywhere, so could be open to anything!!! Have the Batterseas been informed.
Shelagh
There is a site there for overspill of dogs-that has been there a while.Waltham forest have got a new site within the last month. I spoke to dog enforcement team walthamforest and they have not picked up Rufus. He is chipped so if they do get him I'm sure they will contact Cherrelle. Haringey and all London boroughs have been notified that Rufus is missing

I've been ages trying to work your post out Shelagh(I'm hopeless on this machine). Tottenham Hale is in L B of Harringey. If you find a dog in L B Harringey you contact Neighbourhood Services Unit N17 9LN on 0208 489 1000. I googled PostCode and from map it looks as if it could be a council storage area as well, so perhaps that's where found dogs are kept. Have Harringey been contacted. Enfield council pay Waltham forest dog enforcement team to coll ext dogs from Enfield. They are then taken to an undisclosed site this used to be at back of goddards-but has recently been changed to somewhere in Tottenham hale. If a chip is read and details up to date they will return the dog but as for the rest!!!!!!. They have a high turn over of dogs pts.I have had a very bad experience with them myself ,although others find them OK. But if nothing to hide why is location secret
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
So who picks the found dogs up from the finder in Enfield, is it the Waltham Forest dog warden. I thought councils had to be more open with information. Does anybody know what Waltham Forest do with the dogs?
Shelagh
Enfield dog rescue do not deal with any strays
Cherrelle
Hi jenny totally agree. Me and Chris felt the same way last night but I guess we all wanted to be proven wrong and just have him home.

Today Shelagh and I went back to willow to have another look, then bombarded enfield council to speak to their warden who's NEVER responded to any emails or calls. Here's what we found.

1) Enfield council does not have their own dog warden
2) Sarndra carter is not a dog warden, she does something with animal welfare/cruelty (I forget)
3) stray dogs enfield number is 07815512833 for anyone who need a it. It's allegedly meant to connect to any warden on duty.. We've only known it to go to voicemail with no response
4) was told she's not allowed to tell us where the dogs get sent to but when we mentioned we already knew (Waltham Forest) she was then happy to say how good they are.

Come to think of it, it was nice that Sandra personally came down to talk to us (though we kinda demanded it) she was kind and polite, but come to think of it we didn't achieve much apart from creating more awareness buy showing our faces.

Also shelagh got a response from enfielddogrescue, they say they don't accept strays !? Hmm so where do they get their dogs from?
Chris63
Cherrelle keep going I am sure you will have Rufus home with you soon. I have heard how marvellous Jenny and her dogs are. Can't believe the council, surely you pay your council tax and you should be allowed to put posters up, is there a law against it? X
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
It would be good if we could clarify if this dog was actually picked up or attempted to be picked up. My gut feeling is that it is not Rufus as he would have had to cross the horrendous A10 although not impossible. In the meantime I think we should also continue to search where the other sightings have been and where Tiga and Yogi have tracked. Hehe Cherrelle, its just that Yogi works a bit quicker than Tiga who is very calm. Cherrelle you are doing an amazing job and cannot put in any more effort than you are. I have found a mobile number for Enfield dog warden and left a couple of messages about sighting of Rufus.if no luck we may have to use chief executive to get response. Also e-mail again Enfield rescue the emails are being accepted so maybe just slow in responding.
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
I met them at an event a couple years ago ill dig out my contacts for enfielddogrescue- think funding was cut for a local enfield dog rescue (a store that colelcted funds chose a different rescue instead)- might have been them.
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
You have to call the council like mentioned if you want a quicker response from dog warden-- she didn't get back to me for two weeks after my dog was attacked by a dog and its only when I called the reception 5 times in one morning that she reared her head to call me.
I'll ask whitewebbs cafe owner to put up a poster- private property and most local enfield dog owners and walkers go through there daily. I also have a friend who owns dogs that lives on parsonage road who I've text.
Not sure which lead is best- if two ladies picked up a yorkie I'll ask other walkers to keep an eye out foraanyone with a new yorkie. Meanwhile im off ordnance road tomorrow so I'll do a skim of the area after last sighting just in case its a different dog.
best of luck keep strong :-)

Hi kimmybear,

I've called plenty of times, my mum is on the case, even my aunt has called a few times and we still haven't heard from the warden. I'll do my best to get to the council tomorrow, it's just finding the time as the council had taken down around 85% of our posters. It's so disheartening. Doing door to do is consuming but as the council is working agains us it's the only way I can assure people are aware (apart from the local paper)

I will make an effort to go down.

Thanks kimmybear xx
Cherrelle
Quick thank you to Jenny, Tiga and Yogi. There is a lost of speculation as to the authenticity of Jenny's claims and confidence in her dogs with their ability to track other k9s. I can tell you, seeing is believing, they are amazing and you can see clearly when they are on a scent. Jenny fit as a fiddle can keep up as once the scent is caught her dogs are explosive and fixated, me on the other hand is straggling behind and being reminded that I need to hit the gym.

I would defend their corner all day everyday. Please spread the word.

And I'll steal a quote from Jenny "Dogs never lie"
With all the possible sightings, it's been a nightmare as not all of them could be feasible, it has left me feeling depressed as I've been so run down and worried if following a dead end lead. Tiga and Yogi have pointed me in the right direction to focus my efforts. Even my bf Chris was some what sceptical, and he walked away totally impressed tonight!

Thanks Jenny xx

If you need dog warden and no response, you may need owner to call the council and demand to speak to dog warden - they have a duty to help. They may be busy, but they should try to respond. You are doing a grand job out there and Cherrelle, look how many yorkies are cropping up! This proves your hard work is paying off - one of them has to be Rufus! Cherrelle, you could try walking into the council and ask them to get DW office on the phone for you. You do have a right to speak to them. x
Cherrelle
Smirdy, is it possible to give me a quick call tomorrow?

Ok long update:
Thanks primopetservice: we went back and flyered half of willow road.. There were posters already put up there.. It's a really long road and will finish the rest tomorrow.

1) small dog sighted 7pm 24/2/14 we wasn't informed untill 13 hours later as the lady had to find our add on gumtree
2) 25/2/14 we spent the whole day searching/posters/flyers/talking to people.
3) called Jenny and Tiga. They made a long last minute journey to help. Yogi (another member of the tracker family) picked up a strong scent which we followed.
4) during tracking Joanne Barnes called to inform of Facebook activity. (She's the best xx)
5) around 4-40pm today Sharon Turner witnessed a yorkie being secured by two ladies who appeared concerned he was alone. Spotting was at the end WILLOW ROAD near the round about off parsonage lane.
6) we all headed down there but too late. So knocked on doors to see if anyone saw the event. That was a dead end.
7) finished the night with posters/flyers door to door for half of willow road. I'll finish the rest tomorrow.

End report x

Just a thought, have you plotted Rufus sightings, and do they make any sense ie around parks or places where strong food smells come from (when he's hungry ). Do they form a pattern. Are there any dog tracking or working dog clubs fairly local, they might be prepared to help or know of someone that could. You must be feeling physically and mentally exhausted and my heart goes out to you and other owners in a similar situation.

Just seen a post on Fbk with this link .. may be worth checking as not too far away. I know Rufus is microchipped but sometimes they can be missed by the scanners or migrate. http://www.alfieslostdogs.com/bb/index.php/topic,39806.0.html

Yes, we need reward on the posters and it is. A genuine person would rarely ever claim a reward, but it does help to obtain info if any not so nice person knows something. Do you have the number of the Enfield council/person re allotment who made that awful remark? Pls let me have it. Thanks. Re Dog Warden - I wonder if there are more than one covering Enfield? Sometimes they have shifts. The one I know of checked DogLost for a collie as the chip wasn't showing and located owner! I will keep hoping we have some decent ones out there. x

Crufts Dog Show is held in NEC Birmingham from the 6 to 9th March 2014. Its the biggest dog show in the world. BBC usually covers all the days its on and Clare Balding a great dog lover usually presents it. She usuallt has time for live question and answers. Of course it goes without saying that I hope Rufus is home before it take place.

I'm in the area tonight- give me a text if you need a hand. Can't bring my dogs they're being so naughty today (neighbours cat keeps upsetting them lol) wouldn't want them scaring him off. I'm at Mayfield road so just a few mins away next to the park. Good luck tomorrow too! :-)
Ps yes enfield council don't give a monkeys about dogs- even the dog warden (the dog warden didn't know what a border collie or a labrador was... but she knew what a vicious Staffordshire Bull terrier was lol)Last edited: 2014-02-21 00:17:46 by Elite Dog Training

Could Rufus get into your back garden if he wanted to? Could you make a bed in your front garden with some food nearby? I don't understand people that see a loose dog and don't attempt to pick it up. Hope the allotment man gets blackfly on his carrots this year nasty old s**.
Chris63
Cherrelle so pleased you managed to get hold of Jenny and Tiga, I bet they will be successful in finding little Rufus. What a nasty person to suggest your little dog is dead, how dare they and yes you pay your council tax and are allowed to search areas owned by the council, bloody cheek of them. Good luck for tomorrow, waiting to hear good news. X
Cherrelle
Sorry Nina, all our posters and flyers have a reward offer when found. We've put posters everywhere done door to door flyers, bus stops, you name it. Every I other person I approach knows about Rufus, and the reward. Like you said it shouldn't really be needed but an Incentive really helps.

Please could you tell me more about Crufts, I've never heard of it

Overdue update: we found a few hiding spaces near the black horse pub. Whilst doing our usuall searching day and night we've made an extra effort to look after shops close which is around 1am then I'm back before dawn around 5.30-6am before dawn to look out for any movements.

As Shelagh has already mentioned we checked the park/cemetery yet again just to be sure. I tried calling enfield council to get into Green Street allotment. The site manager turned up, has a 30secons check and refused to let me on the grounds and have a thorough check, I was then accused of wasting his time as a dog missing for 2 weeks would be dead. I called the council back to report what had happened but the were totally un interested and dusted their hands.. I'll just have to invite myself in tomorrow morning.

Plus note. Jenny and Tiga are coming tomorrow! I'm so happy she has the time, I got a really good feeling that Tiga will find him.
Shelagh
Just back from searching for Rufus searched cemetery again neear to last sighting no luck.
DogLostNina
Cherrelle have you tried to get any teenagers on your side by offering them a reward if they find and bring Rufus home to you. I know you shoulnt have to do this but sometimes needs must. The other thing I was thinking and its a big one is that Crufts starts soon if you were able to give out posters to attendees and the media expecially Clare Balding who presents the TV coverage gets to hear, who knows what might happen!

Just had a look on google map of pub and it looks as if there might be a long narrow corridor(shrubby and hedgey) between the back of the houses in Frederick Crescent and the school grounds, which could be good place for a little dog to hide in. Could some body else have a look "pretty please" as I'm hopeless on this machine and don't want to waste Cherrelles time. Thanks

I do hope you find Rufus today, sit in the pub garden with an open tin of sardines on the floor, talk to yourself if you have to. And who knows what will happen !! think you have to plot definite sightings and post on here. This sighting sounds promising. Good luck.

I just ran home to call them as he looks IDENTICAL to Rufus.
Microchip number doesn't match plus that dog hasn't been neutered.

Good look out though Bo, many thanks xx

Update: I got home around 2am, there were no sightings. I walked a safe route from my house to the pub and retrace the same steps home. I reinforced my steps with scenting too.
Chris was out just before dawn for a couple of hours as it was quiet.
I've spoken to jenny and she might not be able to make it today (travelling from Maidstone Kent) and I was wondering if anyone with dogs could help today.

Just home having a quick bite then back out again. Xxx

Kimmybear... Just around the corner you say? ... Rufus had been spotted outside The Black Horse Pub on the Hertford road just around the corner from my house!
We got the call an hour ago but sighting was 1pm this afternoon. We've been searching!
I just got a call from Jenny & Tiga (k9 tracker) she has given some sound advice to walk a safe route to the pub and be mindful where I cross the streets as he will follow my scent. She's advised Everytime I walk I should always end up back home. So no more jumping back in the car.
I'm staying out tonight to have a look after shops close. Them back out again before daylight when it's quiet.

Jenny might be coming down some time during the week with Tiga to help up find him!

So close!!!

Cherrelle, the law states that a dog can be re-homed after serving 7 days in kennels but these are the dogs that are not micro chipped or where owner cannot be found! All decent kennels, rescues & dog wardens will scan any dog that comes their way. If no chip is found, they should scan again with a different scanner and that is what the Enfield DW did on two occasions that I know of and she reunited the dogs. She also checked this site for lost dogs. Despite the law saying 7 days, most dogs do not get re-homed for a while as first the pound, then the rescue and then quite often assessment before re-homing can take place. However, technically it is possible to re-home on the 8th day. Yes, finder can keep dog for 7 days and if no one claims dog, they can in theory become legal owner BUT this can vary. Often DW's make finder keep dog for longer without ownership or even make the dog serve a kennel week first - it all depends on council/DW policy within the laws. Kind people, would return dog to rightful owner even after a few weeks. The thing here is that in order for a finder to keep the dog, the DW first has to scan for a chip. If the DW does his/her job, then Rufus would be found by scanning so you shouldn't worry too much about any of that. The only problem I can see here, is possibly the Vets. Not all vets scan new client dogs. This is why it is very important to check in with the vets often. Make sure they have the poster on their wall. And ask them to scan every new dog that comes in. Many do, but some do not. See Bruce Forsyth's campaign "Vets get scanning". Now if a dog was re-homed somehow and never scanned e.g. by vets, once it was scanned and found to be registered to real owner, you could collect your dog or occasionally, owner may have to fight to re-claim ownership via courts. There are dog lawyers out there. As far as I'm also aware, you need to call Pet Log just once to register your dog as missing. This status will remain until you tell them he is home. This means if anyone tried to change his chip to their names, you should be contacted. Why don't you speak to PetLog to put your mind at rest on that? If you have any problems or issues, let us know. Let's hope you don't need any of that above information and that Rufus is just around the corner! xxx

My mate works in the chingford kennels behind goddards she'll keep me posted on any yorkies that come in and she can even get us in to see dogs :-)
Shelagh
Always trouble with them! You have no reason to think he in chingford but I can check them every couple days no problem
Cherrelle
Dog was a Black and Tan yorkie, he was found in upper Edmonton but brought back to their home in chingford. I received a call an hour ago that dog was handed into chingford vets and is microchipped. Original owners have been contacted and has already gone home!

Chingford vets very nice but worried about their procedures. I was told by Adam that if we don't contact petlog weekly In The search for Rufus, if Rufus is handed in and scanned and there's no log within a week of us contacting pet log they will let the new owners keep him! Try same guy also told me that if a stray is handed in and they have no room, they will let the finders hold onto him an after 7 days if no one comes forward they let the finders keep the stray. I've called other vets and checked with enfield council and they've all said that's totally wrong. I went back to Goddard chingford to question them I never really got a solid answer to anything and the guy kept changing his advice when I mention enfield council. I pray to got Rufus is not sent there. And I wonder if they should be reported?

Again staff there are very friendly and are not at all rude but their procedure frightens me as there is no clear answer as to what their rules are.Last edited: 2014-02-18 14:42:42 by Cherrelle

Searching has grounded to a halt as rain has come with vengeance. All my re scenting this noting no doubt has been washed away. Can't do door to door flyers as too soggy to pass through letter box. I think rain will only be for a few hours so plan is still to set out later when it stops

yep with the advice of Shelagh/Bo/Primopetservice ive already scented the area and were checking regulary. Weve not put food out, there are just too many foxes in the area and their huge!! ive been getting quite a few reports of cats going missing around there and locals all blame the foxes. i dont know if its a good idea to attract all the foxes to the area where rufus might be. thats why we posted that we stuck to scenting and item of clothing. if im wrong or you have another angle please let me know, id give up the world to get him back!

ive finally sent a message to K9 Tracker (Tiga) their mobile site doesnt work too well and ive had to force myself to sit down and get on my laptop. hopefully they weill have some time to help as i can imagine they are in high demand.

thanks Chris and primopetservice for yesterday. i had 2 hospital appointments between everything thats going on and the news i got yesterday it was very hard for me.

around 8pm last night we had a call that someone had found rufus. when we got there it was another dog. the wife is growing attached to the dog she found so ive sent a few txts last night encouraging them to hand him in to a local vet. im waiting today for them to send some pictures and details of where they took him so i can post here on doglost. as soon as i get the details, i will be calling the vet to double check. if nothing i will call the warden but really doubt it will come to that as they are good people and trust they will do the right thing.
Chris

Well done you fantastic people! Cherrelle, is there any safe area hidden in bushes next to this sighting - even a garden that could be left open very close? If you set up a food station - food & water bowls - suggest old plastic containers if left in the "wild" so it just looks like rubbish to stop being stolen, but weighted down with stones or something if windy - NOT in the bowl - as we don't want to choke anyone! At this secret hideaway I want you to scent outwards to the sighting areas (make sure its not across any roads or danger areas). Also leave something of yours for him to lie on, a bit like a den. It has to be away from traffic & people or it won't feel safe to Rufus. You will need to keep checking the bowls, day and night and put fresh food down daily. If eaten regularly you need to hide and see who is eating it. Sometimes its wildlife, sometimes a cat but sometimes its a dog. You need smelly food, sardines, warm garlic, tripe or garlic chicken. If this was Rufus, he will walk that way again. Read the info I sent you again. Dogs do a triangle - known fact - they keep doing it round and round. It could be miles or yards, but they keep doing it. If this was Rufus and he smells you, he is likely to hang around that area more. Also, if there is a constant food and water source, he will be back. And yes, good work with the door knocking and dog walkers - the more famous Rufus becomes, the hotter he is to handle. Well done everyone. xLast edited: 2014-02-17 20:43:10 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Been searching on and off today no sightings so far. Got some happy yappy dogs with me to get his attention if he's in the area. Seen a kid matching the description of one of the ones who had him cornered but he ran off down an alley playing before I could strike up a conversation.

Going to do a daytime search with one of my dogs who's good at flushing out anything hidden. I'll see if any locals know anything :-)

No luck yesterday. As the weather was nice and bright yesterday we spent the entire day/night out. I've spoken to many residents in the estate of the sighting and description of the kids seen. There were list of dog owners out and we approached everyone in sight. One owner has an Akita who picks up dog scents so I'm going to bump heads with the guy today and give him something if Rufus.

Chris has been out since 7am checking the 2 scented areas, he gave flyers to the waste collectors. He noticed that the bins in Sandringham way showed signs if an animal trying to get inside. Hopefully Rufus but we understand it could have been anything (fox)

Brilliant news. Now please be careful because Rufus may run scared if people chase. Crouch down, speak softly, thrown tidbits, cheese maybe. Even if Rufus runs DO NOT CHASE. Let him run because you're not going to catch him if he runs and chasing only makes him run out further. You are doing fantastic! Now we have sighting, you need to find a safe secure area at that location, for a food station and then stake outs. Where's your old PJ top, Cherelle? Your scenting may have helped if in this area. Do it again to keep him around there. Such fantastic news. Keep calm and go get your boy. You CAN do this! Come on Rufus. Nearly home, boy. x

Cherelle, well done with the scenting. Dogs have been known to follow scent on vehicles but you need to be aware of the roads. Once you have a sighting we can set up a food station and you can take this to the next level - but we need that sighting. Anything you do will help. How about a BBQ in that area late or early morning when no ones around? That's when dogs often come out and especially with those smells. However, you may also need food for the wildlife population who will also be there desperate for food. Lie low and watch for any movement. You must not call or shout as he won't know its you, so just watch and see. Then if you do see him, call VERY quietly to give him time to process who you are. Take it easy. Everything crossed for you & Rufus. xxx

I can join the search tomorrow if still no luck as I'm off work sick (might aswell be useful). Just a note: I got sprayed with DAP dog spray on my legs the other day as one of my dogs is in season (it stops dogs at work humping my legs lol) and I've had both dogs and cats obsessed with following me (even guide dogs... woops) maybe the combination will encourage him out? Even the shy dogs at work are bugging me and won't leave me alone!

I've just got home, there was no sign of him. On the way home I drove further out so see if I could spot him. Shelagh you know the area we searched yesterday. None of the street lights work in that whole area, it's pitch black!! If he's travelling at night (which I have a suspicion he is) he's not going to get spotted.

Super tired, bed for me. Xx
Cherrelle
Still no sign of him. I've put one of my PJ tops in the shelter and scented that area. I've scented the tyres of my car (was that a bad idea?) and have left the engine running past 4 hours. Boyfriend tired from 12 hour shift at work, slept through most of the stake out so sent him home (poor guy).

Just me now,

As Cherrelle said no Rufus but we are quite sure he is still on estate where he was sighted two days running. We have found a shelter put out for local cats with food and water we are hoping Rufus is using this as well.when he was sighted he looked in good condition, this leads me to believe he may have been taking the food.Cherrelle and family have done a tremendous job and have drummed up a lot of local support. Some people are looking on there own CCTV daily to see if he shows up. There are loads of posters and all locals no about him. Managed to recruit meals on wheels guy, car park attendant and couple local bobbies while there today. Sure they going to find him

Sorry Yvonne , last positive sighting was Bullsmore way 4days ago. We've already done all of your suggestions except "lostbox south east" which is a Brilliant idea, I will be sorting that out today.

Hi everyone, so far no sighting. Me and my dad were out early this morning putting up posters and handing out flyers. We were very lucky that Shelagh was kind enough to join us. We suspect Rufus is very close and may be circling the area so I'm going to combine Shelagh and Nina's idea by having a steak out tonight aided with scenting.

Just a quick Thankyou to Shelagh and Bo (Laura) as I know they've been acting on my behalf on the internet side of things which has helped greatly, as I'm out most of the day looking.

Dolly the little yorkie from Basildon has been found after 4 weeks missing, I bet her owner knows how you all must be feeling. It's a bright windy day here in Romford and I've noticed dogs love it, so hopefully you might get some news today. Yes he loves his squeaky toys. We bring them out with us for every search. Bullsmore way is close to the M25 so there's a lot of noise pollution in that area. The squeaky to can travel better than our voice near that area. Btw foxes seem to love the sound of squeaky toys too. I've had 2 sneak up on me through curiosity.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Looks like Rufus likes a toy, if he likes squeeky toys you could try taking squeekies with you and "squeek" as you walk and search, I wonder if that would draw him out !
Cherrelle
Thankyou everyone for the support. Apologies for not personally responding. I've been averaging 14hour day searches and the whole family Is very tired. I've been in close contact with Shelagh who's been keeping me upto date with internet actions.

Allotments: we checked that last week. The evening of the post my dad jumped the fence, we were out till something am in the morning. I was back 7am also jumped the dense and had a through look. I found nothing. Not even blood, I was there for hours. I think what the person heard was birds as a few times some birds chirping resembled whimpering. I also could not find anywhere Rufus could have entered the allotment.

We had a call last night for a sighting in bullsmore way. Rufus was sighted 2 days ago but last forgot to call till now. We were there most of last night and back again 7am. We've done door to do flyers, posters on most trees. Stopped people and obviously searching. We've not found him buy gut feeling says we're close. We've done 14 hours today so were starting fresh in the morning. Local residents are keeping an eye out for us and 1 has volunteered to search with us tomorrow.

Whilst searching we found a list terrier, which we handed into medivet. Shelagh kindly posted a picture on DogLost as I was still out searching. We left quite and impression in the vet so hopefully they will go and extra mile to aid in finding Rufus.

Thank you for all the support, together we will find Rufus!

Myself Cherrelle and family searched that area intensely and thousands of flyers have gone out. They now have a positive sighting in different area and are following it up. Keep everything crossed for them
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Did Cherrelle gain access to the allotments where the whimpering was heard? If it was Rufus and he'd managed to get in an allotment site would be a good place to hide, and he might not be able to get out. Are the allotments fairly nearby and do you walk him that way? I shouldn't think many people are visiting them at the moment as the ground is too waterlogged. Our allotments have a board with contact phone nos. on. There would be plenty of places for him to hide, like compost heaps covered with tarpaulins and sheds. Have you been to see the people that work at the nearby cemetries to make them aware as he could be hiding out there. Has he got a favourite area or walk, my greyhound girl would head for trees, shrubs and anywhere there's undergrowth to sniff around in. I hope you have a positive soon.Last edited: 2014-02-13 12:49:21 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer

DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Cherrelle, it is the law that finders & dog wardens try to reunite dogs within 7 days, so if someone has a dog like yours they must legally check its not Rufus. To do this they often ask specific questions to ensure the dog does really belong to the person trying to claim him. Now, if the only way both sides can be sure is to let owner see him, then they should assist. Quite often it is possible to see by the dog's reaction to the owner, but not always as some dogs are a bit traumatised. Chingford kennels are usually very good. I would suspect the reason they are saying its not Rufus is because he may not have a chip, or may be chipped to someone else whom they cannot as yet locate (maybe owners didn't change their address when they moved?). This is the only way they could know he is not Rufus. If you are concerned you must speak to the dog warden who has a duty to help you. I would always ask if dog has been scanned twice by different types of scanner (HALO seems the best). Its possible they know whose dog it is or they know its not Rufus for some other reason, but they should tell you exactly why it isn't him to put your mind at rest. I don't believe they would deliberately lie to a missing dog owner. It is in everyone's interests to get these dogs home. Let us know how you get on. If there is a problem, DogLost is happy to speak to dog warden or kennels if they want to go through us. x

Do we know which kennels in Chingford? If it is the one at the back of Goddards I too have a friends who work there. Please let me know asap and I will ring or go there myself
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
Why are they refusing to let you see him? If its chingford kennels I know a someonel who can get us in to see the dog. Have they even scanned the dog they have?
Cherrelle
Pros and cons of today. The weather is making is near impossible to search for him. I'm loosing the majority of my posters as the winds snatching it out of my hands. The good thing is Rufus won't be out in this weather and will be taking shelter so it's slowed him down giving us a better chance to catch up
Cherrelle
Thank you to everyone who is making such an amazing effort to help find my dog. We had news that Waltham Forest picked up a yorkie in chingford. They they ruled him out as they claim he's too big to be my dog. We asked I we could go down or send some pictures to we can confirm but they refuse to let us see him, not even a photo. I'm frustrated as what's big to one person is not to the other. Is their any way around this. They told my mum if we turned up they wouldn't let us check.

Any suggestions?

No luck tonight did all the housing estates and spoke to people I know well in the area. I used to live off st anns I know the neighbourhood kids well from my dogs I'll have a word with them and their parents tomorrow :-)
Shelagh
Just contacted Waltham forest warden and street services left info for Cherrelle regarding seven sisters d/w
Shelagh
I am just back from searching for Rufus sadly couldn't see him. Cherrelle and her family have done a great job postering the last sighted area.We done a thorough search of immediate area and gave out afew more posters. Someone else is doing night watch iI believe.I'm sure Cherrelle would appreciate you looking primo pet services-i understand Rufus is really friendly

The Seven Sisters dog warden needs to be alerted as do all dog wardens in surrounding areas. I also think the Highways departments and the local council road departments need to be contacted in each surrounding area. Remember they do not scan dogs on the road, so we need to keep reminding them Rufus is missing just in case they find him and don't know who to call. I'd start with Seven Sisters road people. Also, I would suggest posters for Seven Sisters areas where the public will see them and also in the sighting area if that is known. Whether sighting was Rufus or another yorkie, we need them all back safe and I so hope Rufus leads the way. Well done everyone; you are doing so good out there. Owner really needs our support. x
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
I'll be wearing relfectives walking a mini yorkie and possibly another dog tonight about 10pm so ill have a look :-)
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
Is he likely to come out to a quiet dog and owner? I'm up at kerswell close tonight with a dog I know the area well if it's worth me doing a check?
DogLostreggiemollieros
Will share on twitter.
kay1blonde
You have prob already done this but Harmsworth animal hospital is near there have you checked there? X
Chris
Hi Rufus was last seen at plevna crescent
The previous post was spelt incorrectly.
Shelagh
That is so great I no Cherrelle is grateful for any help. I am on my way now to search. The last place he was seen was plavney crescent, he was chased across seven sisters road. We will be searching around that area if anyone wants to join us. Cherrelles number is on above.

Message from a helper who is having problems logging in....

The helper is looking everyday in the parks and cemetary on her way to work as she walks along and she has also put some posters up in Crew Hill.
Shelagh
We are searching around seven sisters road Finsbury park/Tottenham area. That was his last sightingyesterday early afternoon
Joanne Barnes
Hi there , where abouts are you searching ? Am i right in saying that rufus has now been seen in seven sisters ? So is not in Enfield anymore ?Last edited: 2014-02-10 14:16:34 by Joanne Barnes
AlisonH
Added help needed to search. Hope it helps.
Shelagh
Yes that would be great because the area has to be worked in pairs for safety reasons
DogLostNina
Shelagh would it be an idea to ask HQ to change list to search helpers needed I am sure they have done this in the past for owners and dogs.
Shelagh
Can anybody help in search for Rufus.? Cherrelle is searching on her own now and it is a huge built up area. I will help her this evening along with her parents. If anyone is close by it would be great if you could help
Shelagh
Yes she has got the delivery girl to put flyers in the free paper there Enfield is flooded with posters. She now concentrating on search in Tottenham. Brent council have flagged rufua up as missing
DogLostNina
Have just googled Enfield and have seen loads of possible places to contact. ie Enfield Independt and Enfield Adveriser papers.I live 100's miles away and dont know the area but it might be worth looking at.
Shelagh
He ran across seven sisters road but he could have gone any direction after that
kay1blonde
what main road was he seen? my mum lives across from lychet way and I know she would go and look, she told me yesterday that when she walks her own dog she has been calling for rufus in the hope he comes to her. x
Shelagh
Unfortunately unless things have changed they do not know where he is he was sighted earlier on when the kids chased him across a main road and then nobody knows. I have suggested driving around last known area slowly hoping he will hear their car engine, but i,'my guessing that will be when gets quieter. If they get another sighting I will pass on info about scenting
DogLostNina
I am going to suggest the scenting methid of trying to get Rufus home.I suppose it really depends on when and where Rufus was when he encountered the kids. What you do is collect urine in a sprinkle bottle and sprinkle a trail from your home to where last seen and back again. Try and leave odd small itmes of clothes as well with your scent is on. I am sure if I have not described this method properly someone from admin will be able to help. Good luck.
Bo
I would offer the kids in that area a reward for the safe return of Rufus. May help them look rather than chase.
Shelagh
Have just spoken to Cherrelle. The sighting of Rufus was confirmed. Sadly some kids have chased across a main road and he has disappeared. The whole family are searching and' flooding that area with leaflets. They are in bits and so desperate to find him. Any tips
kay1blonde
ive been following this post since I heard the sad news , so so hope its the lead she's been praying for! I have everything crossed :)
Shelagh
They are following a lead now. Fingers crossed

Yes, Cherrelle is the owner. Suggested dog warden investigates to ensure correct owner reunited.
Shelagh
Yes there was a bit of confusion but it seems Rufus owner had asked finder to take dog to vet to scan for chip in meantime an owner had come forward and taken the dog. Cherrelle did know the dog was reunited but is trying to get in contact with original finder karen-just to clarify he has gone to right owner
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
I don't think so as person who originally posted Rufus as missing posted today screen name Cherelle.
Shelagh
It seems as posted on her Facebook page this dog was reunited with an owner same evening it was found.
Shelagh
As posted by cherrelle she is dogs owner. She thinks dog could be Rufus and trying to get contact details for finder
Bo
I've just spoken to Shelagh who has contact with Rufus's owner. I sent Shelagh an email with the photo of the found Yorkie which she's checking in a moment when she gets back home .

Bumped so owner can see comment below.
Cherrelle
I think this could be Rufus but I can't get in contact with the lady, her name is Karen Proctor. He looks so much like Rufus and she thinks she's found the owner but she didn't take him to the vet to see if he's chipped and I'm worried she's giving him to the wrong person. I've message her and all her friend that have commented/liked the post to try and get someone to respond to me.

Hi cherelle I am giving out flyers in chingford and Edmonton as discussed yesterday. Good luck searching today. I will try get info on one found in chingford.
Cherrelle
I just received a call from a young man saying that he saw a small dog running around Albany park 2-3 days ago. I will check it out in the morning.
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
No worries. I know a girl who works in chingford kennels where the warden takes them- ill ask her if she knows anything :-)
Cherrelle
I've just got home from handing out flyers.
We've had a call that to yorkie was handed in chingford but as everything is closed we can't check till Monday. Fingers crossed! As for the allotments there was no sign of Rufus this morning. Family went back later every few hours just to be sure.
I want to personally thank Shelagh Savage for coming out to help today. You are truly a wonderful person! Thank you primopetservice for looking around brimsdown and thank you to the people who have posted and shared on FB.

Hi there, put on fb and asked people to share, chatted with you in Morrisons today, can't imagine what you r going through. Will put posters up hampstead Heath tomorrow.
Shelagh
Have contacted highways agency as discussed with owner
Shelagh
I have just got back from searching for Rufus with cherelle. We spent couple of hours searching cemetery allotments and durants park. The whole area is swamped with posters and we spent couple of hours at retail park handing out flyers. cherrelles dad and boyfriend were handing out at different locations.Several people stopped to say they had put him on their Facebook pages and at least 90% knew he was missing.Worryingly I discovered railway close by brinsdale(I think) also another a little way on.
DogLostNina
Good luck to you all in your searches.
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
I live next to durants park I can do a check while walking my dogs today.
Shelagh
OK will call you this morning.
Cherrelle
Apologies Shelagh Savage we would love the help and we have plenty of flyers to give to you. If you can call or txt me in the morning (number listed in add) we can get something arranged 😄

I've only just got home from a possible lead. I had a call that the allotment next to Durants park a couple heard whimpering near the gates. It was locked and very dark, even with flashlights there was minimum visibility. Back tomorrow!

Shelagh
I can do angel corner for her that is next main shopping center coming away about 4-5 miles from Enfield. I would need to pick up flyers as my printer not working.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
It sounds like someone could have taken Rufus. Owner is assuming he got out but usually they get back home unless something stopped them. It is very possible that 1) someone has kept him and is unaware of the law that you must report to a dog warden or 2) someone has actually stolen him deliberately. We really need all eyes out for Rufus. With so many flyers out there we should have heard something by now so maybe we need to widen the area. I'd suggest postering up 10 miles out in each direction (even further). Come on Rufus sweetie, let's find you. x
Shelagh
JUST saw on map cemetery close by has anyone checked there?
Shelagh
I have family ordinance way so sent his picture over. I'm in Waltham forest not far from you if you want any help with your flyers I am available tomorrow .

Albany Rd, Shaftesbury Ave & Green Street - sightings of a dog like Rufus. Please, please work on these areas. Any rails lines here? Any roads & bushes to be checked. House to house in these estates may be a good idea. x
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Owner has given out over 5,000 flyers and posters. Still going. Please, if anyone can help her do more, it will be appreciated. She is so so worried. x
DogLostNina
Just thought has anyone from doglost mentioned scenting or given you instructions on what to do if not ask HQ or maybe a co-ordinator can help.
DogLostNina
Do you have a local paper or local radio that you could ask to help. Not sure if Battersea Dogs Home comes under your area.
Cherrelle
hi Primopetservices,

we dont know which direction, HE slipped out without us realising. i have a suspicion it was towards brimsdown.

The last clear sighting was on the corner of Shaftesbury ave facing Green Street.
later a call of a sighting of a small dog with no lead following a woman with a pram thowing sticks to fetch.
the last was a call of a sighting in Albany Park but times clash with other sightings.

we are putting up posters and flyers everywhere to compensateLast edited: 2014-02-08 00:49:20 by Cherrelle
Primo Pet SevicesElite Dog Training
Sorry to hear he's still not been even sighted. Which way down caterhatch did he run?
Cherrelle
Hi Nina. We've been at school gates giving out flyers to families on their way home. I also spend time at the entrance of a few supermarkets as well as sneak a few posters on their grounds when no ones looking.

Sadly no one has mentioned any sightings since Tuesday. The weather is terrible so people are reluctant to stop and talk and theirs hardly anyone to approach at the park.
kay1blonde
anymore news on rufus???? x
DogLostNina
Might be an idea to find a busy place to stand with a megaphone and let everyone know that Rufus is missing. Hand out leaflets at the same time. Contact amy local schools and offer a reward towards schhol funds. Good luck.
AlisonH
800 poster distributed yesterday. owner has just ordered 1000 more and 5000 flyers.
