- I looked at Benji but he's too light. The fur was dark brown.

- Could this be Benji, 56605, missing from the HD6 area in July? If so, would be nice for the owners to have closure. So sad. Run free at the bridge, dear boy xxx

- Just wanted to add this is the second deceased dog we have taken from the canal in the last 3 months. It makes me so cross to see poeple throwing balls etc into a canal and allowing and encouraging dogs to jump in! There are undercurrents from outlets and overflows that will pull a dog down not to mention hazards below the surface. My own 2 wear life jackets when sailing.

- I rang doglost admin on Saturday as we have no internet when on the narrowboat for help so couldn't access this site.Unfortunately he was not in a condition to to taken anywhere. On their advice we rang the RSPCA at Halifax to see if an inspecter in a van could come with a mobil scanner and check for a chip. It was the RSPCA that contacted Calderdale council to collect him as a public health risk not us. The workman said the body would be checked on the Monday for a chip before being disposed of.I would not be surprised if this didn't happen given his condition. I only regret I didn't take photos of some of the identifying features like the tail. We managed to place him in a woven bag that was to hand as this is a public place and children were about. We wouldn't have been able to get him out of it again. I couldn't leave him in the water but also it was important he was dealt with quickly. Not sure if anyone from doglost could ring Calderdale council waste disposal to see if scanning happened?

- Has the dog been collected and taken to ?vets to see if it has a chip do you know? If it hasn't then maybe a dog warden might help to retrieve the dog as he/she may have somebody on her patch looking for a lost dog that perhaps isn't on Doglost. Last edited: 2014-02-26 19:01:18 by ClaireC

- On Saturday 22nd February we removed the body of a young male un-neautered dog from The Calder and Hebble canal. He had been in the water for sometime so may have been missing for weeks or months. He had a full mouth of clean undamaged teeth so we are saying this is a young dog.The fur that remained was dark brown but may have had other colours. He had a long sweeping tail that was shaggy. He was bigger than a Jack Russell but not over big. A similair size to my border terrier.Because of where he was found at the end of the canal he could have travelled anywhere from Todmorden/Hebden Bridge/Sowerby Bridge/Halifax/Elland/Brighouse. He was collected by Caldercale council who told me he would be scanned on Monday 24th February (but I don't have much confidence they will) I hope this information brings closure to an owner.
