As Lisa says Well done that vet! What a great result and hopefully the other people can rehome an unwanted dog assuming they came by Gypsy innocently of course! Thanks for the reunited photo's - lovely x

What a fantastic result...I am so pleased the vet checked the chip. I feel really strongly about this...Thank you for the link Majorjet and please everyone sign.My dogs are 12 years old and see a vet regularly. I am a military wife so they have been registered with a dozen vets in the past 12 years as we have moved around alot with postings.. Not one ever checked their micro chip...Not one...What is the point of micro chipping if no one checks...Well done Regans vets xxx

Compulsory Microchip Scanning on pets to be introduced alongside Compulsory Microchipping with a microchip proving ownership.

Responsible department: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

We want the Government to introduce legislation to get VETS to scan all dogs and cats for a microchip at registration in their practices and all ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANISATIONS, RESCUE CENTRES, COUNCIL KENNELS to scan all strays as well as cross check surrendered pets. We do not want Scanning neglected with the introduction of Compulsory Microchipping on 6th April’16.

The microchip system can only be fully effective if animals that have been microchipped are routinely scanned, this is vital for animals that have been found as strays and kept by the finder, or stolen animals that have been sold on to unsuspecting new owners.

Re-registration of microchipped pets on microchip databases should be made illegal if, when scanned, the pet shows as being registered lost or stolen.

We need your signature to show the Government that we want a full reunification service available to protect us and our pets, otherwise what is the point of us microchipping our pets?

CROSS POSTED: Posted by owner on the REUNITED fb photo/details share

I Totally am 100% behind you with your campaign , the stress of the last couple of weeks was horrendous , Thank God the lady vet at Regans vets in Bury scanned our puppy Gypsy . she was very suspicious of the people who took her into the vets , and she was right , it turns out they are local people who live in the next town to us , so they must have thought they could steal our puppy and take it to a vets miles away from where we live and claim she was theres !! but they left that vets empty handed because as soon as Gypsy was scanned their game was up ! please EVERYBODY get your pets microchipped , and lets have more vets like Regans , it would save so much heartache if it was the law to scan every animal that came through their doors . i mean lets face it , how long does it take , literally seconds , and how many families would be happily united with their beloved lost pets ! love from julie , Dek , and family and most of all GYPSY !! CROSS POSTED from Regan Veterinary Group:

Regan Veterinary Group shared a link.

22 March 2014

We were delighted recently to have reunited a gorgeous lost puppy with her rightful owners through scanning her and finding a chip when she was presented to one of our practices. You can read more here http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=65943... This highlights the importance of chipping all pets and is the reason we have signed up to the Dogs Trust Free microchipping campaign starting on 1st April (more details to come soon). We would also like to say a huge thanks to the staff at www.doglost.co.uk for all the hard work they do to reunite pets with their rightful owners. Please share this with all your pet loving friends so we can get this important message to as many people as possible.

Surely this is how the system should work. New patients are scanned as a matter of course and the details checked. It wouldn't take much time to do and It would save so much heartache for people who have lost their beloved pets. Well done to that vet - if only there were more like you!
Spindle
Wonderful vets, if only they all scanned new patients so many would get home.
