I am just hopeful that the dog was retrieved from the river as they said they would try and do! Do please let us know and thank you for alerting us at doglost.

Just to update, I walked over that side of the river this morning, the body has now gone, it has probably floated further down the river, the river level did rise during the week, and the current is very fast, (there are always dead cows and sheep floating down the river), if it has floated further down it would be more likely to be seen and more easily recoverable, as it will no longer be in the middle of nowhere. I will walk another stretch of the river later today and will keep an eye out.Last edited: 2014-03-29 10:47:05 by tailwags_treats

I've just spoken to the Parks Team this morning again and although they went out yesterday they were in the wrong place!. Hopefully they will be able to get to the dog today. I will update when I know more.

Hi Lizzie do you want to give me a call and I can update further 01296 613835.

Ok Claire....just rang waterways but they didn't know who the River Dove belonged to, so was told to phone the council.
ClaireC
I do believe that somebody from Parks & Countryside at the Staffs Borough County Council Dept is/has going/gone out to hae a look to see what he can do. As soon as I hear from him I will post again.
ClaireC
Message for Lizzy I knew you were busy this morning and I had some spare time, I have phoned the following bodies: Environment Agency, RSPCA, Wildlife Investgations Team, Staffs County Council and now local County Council. I have left them trying another government body and they have my phone number and hopefully will be able to contact someone to remove the dog. This area apparently does not have a Dog Warden and I wouldn't be too sure if this dog (if and when recovered) will be scanned. I will post again when I have some further news. Hope this helps. xLast edited: 2014-03-26 11:00:31 by ClaireC

Jasper's owner said that he would not have got anywhere near the river as it is too far away.

Willow Dood. Makes you wonder. Hope it can get be checked out.

If no one has spoken to Glenthorne vets in Tutbury I will ring them tomorrow. If a dog is missing close by they may know.
ClaireC
Just wondered if you were able to contact any of my suggestions as posted below today?
Willow Dood
Is there any chance that this poor dog could be Jasper, a Border Collie ID 63875. He has long hair and a cream underbelly too. He was lost south of Macclesfied, which is not that far from the River Dove and upstream from where this dog has been found.

I've had a look at 64611... I think the colouring is wrong and Gwent is south of the River Dove source (starts in Buxton and flows south). I've been out today but it was still dark so couldn't see if it was still there, will have a look again tonight

A long shot but has missing 64611 been checked out?

Hi tailwags_treats, you could try the Waterways Authority for River Dove @ Tutbury. You could also try the The Derby Railway Angling Club based near there Secretary Tel 01332 792807 who might just be able to tell you who the actual Water Authority is as I think it is bordering two counties. They may even be able to help retrieve the dog also with the assistance of Dog Warden. The Water Authority I would have thought be responsible for retrieving the dog as well. You could also talk to your local Dog Warden (through your Council I presume) and make him/her aware as she might have better contacts to see if they can retrieve and scan the dog for a microchip. I would think, sadly, this dog may have been a victim of the floods as there were quite a few that will have sadly been drowned. Hope this helps and thank you for alerting us but sadly I am too far away to offer any physical help. x

So sad. Hope an owner can be traced to have closure. Run free at the bridge, dear dog xxx

I have already mentioned it to local police, but was told it would just be logged and they wouldn't go and retrieve it. I have already checked the missing pages, as far as I can tell it isn't listed, its so hard to say though, the dog could have gone in at any point along the river, unlikely to be local, the River Dove is often swollen with water from Dovedale and beyond. I have contacted local RSPCA. We don't have a local canoe club, I walk the river daily and have never seen anyone canoeing in the vicinity, with the right equipment the body could be retrieved from the bank. Maybe the RSPCA officer would do this.Last edited: 2014-03-23 12:52:40 by tailwags_treats
Abe babe
Good idea Nina... Don't suppose the authorities will be inclined however, but perhaps finder could speak to local canoe club?...having googled I notice that the weir in question is a favorite with many clubs.
DogLostNina
Are there any river craft that could help with the recovery of the dogs body or is it to dangerous
