Any news? Anything more we can do to help search?x
MacIntosh
Such fab looking boys. It's Bank Holiday weekend and loads more folks will be heading out to the area and unaware.Probably already thought of but is it worthwhile checking on/or adding more posters.Even doing a search of local holiday accommodation and emailing them all? Hoping for good news for the owners soon.
Mollychops
Just tragic for the family , I really feel for them
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Sorry Jen & Millypod for pinking you both. I had an overjoyed call from owner who was still at work to say that they were home. Her son had called his mum with the news but after he got over the initial delight he realised that they were both bitches. I feel so sorry for Melanie who was so overjoyed with the initial news and now the distress of the realisation that they are not her boys. Both bitches were picked up so close to where she lives and a neighbour who saw them assumed they were Arthur & Furlong and took them to her home. I am gutted.
DogLostMillypod (Chris) - Administrative Volunteer
What a shame :( The search goes on.x
jen
Oh so sorry
AlisonH
Message just received from Jenny & Tiga the 2 found dogs are both bitches and not Arthur and Furlong.

From the owner: No its not them. omg

wibble58
Hazel, sorry I didn't get back to you. Mollychops, thanks for the update, will wait to see what plan is come up with & whether I can be of any assistance
Mollychops
Thanks Hazel and Wibble , but having spoken with Helen, we are kind of thinking now these two might have moved from the area. They are so people orientated, and why has there not been any more sightings ? The search needs to be spread further afield now . I will speak with owner and see if we can come up with a plan
DogLostSherlock- Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - Avon & South Gloucestersh
What time do you think best to set off ....should be able to fit time on Tues/Wed?
wibble58
Hazel, I would be willing to do the Offas Dyke walk with you but cannot do anything until Tuesday, is that any good?
DogLostSherlock- Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - Avon & South Gloucestersh
Went back up to St Briavels this afternoon armed with plenty of small posters which
I handed out to walkers and visitors ....some were making their way along Offas Dyke and I managed to find a couple who had just arrived back...other dogs being walked but no sightings. Spoke to some farmers, garage owners and local shopkeepers over the river and they will let hikers know. I would do Offas dyke if there was someone else willing to walk as it is thick wood and probably safer in numbers!
Any willing walkers? Tweeting updates so will ask if there are any helpers willing to walk x
Mollychops
Mollychops
Brockweir has been searched and postered already Helen has just said, thanks Butternut
Mollychops
Bumped due to coverage in the review
Mollychops
Thanks Hazel , Butternut and Wibble, you are all going fantasticaly , sorry about your knee Wibble, take it steady X . Waiting to hear an update from Helen we keep missing one another. Maybe like Butternut suggests the Brockweir area needs postering, I will check with Helen as soon as I can get her off the phone !
DogLostSherlock- Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - Avon & South Gloucestersh
I have just tweeted for any local helpers....I am available to help tomorrow and could certainly put up more posters and talk to any walkers around x
Butternut
Hazel - I don't know who is looking but I don't live near there so can't get there often, don't know about wibble. I wish I could hike the Offa's Dyke Path from Brockweir to Monmouth, putting posters up and talking to walkers en route, but I don't have time to do that unfortunately :-(
Butternut
I went to the carpark on Stowe Lane quite early this morning, walked over the road and down the footpath that goes down the drive of the converted barn, I had a wander round the fishing lake/pond there, up to the ridge of the fields behind and into St Margaret's Grove Wood. Its pretty steep dropping down to the brook (an excellent water source) so you get a good view down into the woods from walking along at the highest point. I had to come back the way I'd gone but then went into Lindors. They already have a poster up they said but took another to go in reception. I also spoke to a groundman who had read about the dogs in the paper yesterday. He hasn't seen them in that area. Walked back through the other side (road side) of St Margaret's Grove. Saw plenty of deer, but no trace of dogs.

Has anyone been around the Brockweir area; all the roads that come south out of St Briavels through Coldharbour, Hewelsfield Common, St Briavels Common, Triangle etc? I don't know if there's places to poster round there but that's a very large area, lots of farmland, might be worth exploring that area and making sure farmers and everybody know about them?? Just a thought...
DogLostSherlock- Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - Avon & South Gloucestersh
Can I check if you have plenty of helpers to search or do you need some more? I took a look up there yesterday x
wibble58
will send you a text in a minute and have checked with the number that we got for you and have definitely copied it down right. If don't have a reply text by this afternoon will contact Mollychops again. Hope you have a successful day, fingers x'd
Butternut
Oh no, sorry about your knee. No, never got a text, that's odd?! Try again today and if I dont reply check with Mollychops you got my right number maybe?
wibble58
Butternut. I went out Monday evening and sat in the carpark just past Lindors if you are coming down from Coleford direction. I sat there for a good half an hour in the dark listening and then went across the road to the big open field with a torch but didn't see anything at all. Wanted to go with you today looking in the woods beyond Lindors but I have dislocated my knee and so its really painful to walk up and down hills and I was waiting to see if anyone has any sightings so that I can go direct to that place and look. Its so frustrating as feel they are definitely around but that it is such a rural part that sightings aren't often. Have txted you the other day, did you get it?
Butternut
Any updates on these two boys? I hope to go up early tmrw morning so a recent sighting would be really useful. Come on boys, be seen...

Shared with friends who live near St Briavels x
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
The best time is at daybreak but I would suspect as it gets warmer and I was in t-shirt most of the time that they will be in the cool of the forest during the day especially with their black coats. When they were last seen on Monday they were playing together without a care in the world!
Butternut
That's really useful information Jenny, thanks, you are so fab!! I'm sorry Wibble but I have to work on Tuesday now, damnit. But Wed hopefully I'll be free although PLEASE boys, have found your way home by then!! Instead I took my dogs up there today for a very short walk in Slip Wood (the southernmost part of Bigsweir). The car park had several cars in (it did yesterday too) and there's a couple of posters up around there already, so with any luck there may be more sightings soon. Does anyone know the best time of day to search? Wibble if you think it's worth doing an early morning thing on Wed, please give me a ring today or tomorrow to discuss!
DogLostSherlock- Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - Avon & South Gloucestersh
Tweeting for these two boys....do you need an appeal for any more helpers...as crow flies I live on the opposite side of the Severn to them and could ask local friends?
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Thank you Butternut & wibble58.Tiga tracked here directly from home and then again in that direction from the Offas Dyke car park in Stowe Road at the bridge end and across to a footpath down a track that leads to a converted barn (they are aware the dogs are missing and know the owner) the footpath carries on down and past a fishing pond and then bears left towards the Lindons where there is a fresh running stream which Tiga went to. The puddles in the forest were drying up so this could be a good water source. We spoke to one guy who was going to let the groundsmen know but I don't know if they yet have a poster. This is the only place on that side of the road that Tiga went to and he came back out over a small stone style onto the road on the left hand side of the drive as you look at the house from the road.
AlisonH
It is believed that both these dogs are still in the Briavels area.
wibble58
thanks Mollychops. Received
Mollychops
Texted the number Wibble, defo a good idea to poster together, its so rural in this area. You can go for hours without seeing a soul
wibble58
Great Butternut will get your no. & if the boys aren't back I will give you a call. Thank you
Butternut
Wibble, yes definitely. Can't tomorrow but should be able to on Tuesday. Just really hope they are home before then. Otherwise maybe you can get my number off Mollychops (if she still has it!) so we can arrange it?
wibble58
Butternut, if you are able sometime this week & if the boys aren't back home, we could walk the woods together down near Lindors as I have driven down there loads in the last week or so but was abit worried walking it on my own. Let me know what you think
Mollychops
Butternut , thanks for your help today , Its fantastic of you, lets hope we get some calls in now re fresh sightings, Please see the area that needs covering still on Jennys post, so if you or Wibble could help in that area, it would be much appreciated ,Thanks again
Mollychops
Jenny, you and your dogs are nothing short of magnificent, Coming all the way from Kent to track is just incredibly kind . We wil carry on postering and searching and keep on till the boys are found. We cant thank you enough . Hugs to Tiga and Yogi tonight, bet they are tired .God Bless you Jenny , you are just the bestest xxxx
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Back home after 5 days in the area tracking. How frustrating with the lack of mobile phone signal! Perhaps I can round up what Tiga and Yogi have been doing. Tiga confirmed 100% that the sightings in Woolaston are not Arthur, he picked up no scent at all. To summarise otherwise the post would be too long but on Thursday we went to check out Coxbury farm where there had been a possible sighting on the Sunday evening they went missing, Tiga was tracking back along Coxbury & Wyegate Lane and met a gentleman who we gave a poster to. Soon after this we called it a night to resume from the same place in the morning. As we arrived in the morning we picked up a text message from his wife who said she had seen the 2 dogs in a paddock next to hers, so we promptly went to see her and she confirmed an all important detail which confirmed they were Arthur & Furlong and they were together and happy playing. This was Monday 7th and was in Coxbury and Wyegate Lane. Yogi tracked from the paddock into the forest taking us on a loop. Tiga continued the next day and then Yogi yesterday tracked down into Redbrook and eventually back up into the forest after a delay after hearing about a possible sighting of 2 black dogs in a field with sheep 1.5 miles further on. After taking Yogi off the scent we went to investigate but it came to nothing. So we resumed where we left off and Yogi took us back up into the forest. On several occasions both Tiga and Yogi were following fresh paw prints one set slightly bigger than the other and only this morning I saw some on a deer path where I would expect no other dogs had been and not far from the Monday sighting. The area that needs to be postered is Redbrook, Coxbury & Wyegate Lane and all the footpaths off it, all footpaths on and off the Offas Dyke footpath, the Lindors Country Hotel/House. There are a number of derelict farms and buildings but neither tracked to these. Highbury Wood, Cadora Grove, St Margarets Wood which is near Lindors, Stowe Road. It was a shame that we couldn't stay longer as it is a huge area to cover with surprisingly very few dog walkers about but it was time to get home and hopefuly with lots of posters another sighting will come in and we can get these two home. I met one person yesterday who said I was the first person he had seen for 3 hours!
Thankyou so much to Butternut from your post below it looks like you have covered the area well with posters and Wibble58 who quickly got to the possible sighting yesterday and sorry I didn't meet up again but the signal just went.
Butternut
Spent a couple of hours driving around the area this afternoon - from Tintern direction I turned right off the A466 after Brigsweir Bridge then right at Mork and on into St Briavels, putting posters up as I went (in the few places it's possible), stopping at the odd farm etc, then went out on the B4228 turning left before Sling to head back towards the quarries, did Margery Lane, Rookery Lane and Stowe Lane leaving flyers with some farms and houses along the way before coming back through Stowe and back onto the A466. The posters I put up arent laminated so if it rains they will probably need doing again I'm sorry. No news or sightings to report I'm afraid. If they are still missing in a couple of days I may be able to come back up to the area and have a walk around getting off the road and covering some footpaths instead if it's felt that would be useful.
Mollychops
Thanks Wibble and Butternut.Great to talk to you earlier Butternut. Ive had no internet most of the day. Butternut is contacting Helen to sort areas she can poster . communication is very bad in this areaLast edited: 2014-04-13 16:45:23 by Mollychops

Was at rowing club today with granddaughter, so put a couple of posters up down there. There are always alot of walkers with dogs down there, so have put them in prominent places. Any more news?
Butternut
Do we know where the tracker dog last tracked to? Is she out again today? I will come up to Wyesham area this morning to poster and help search but it would be great to know the best place to focus on - I now have your number Mollychops so will ring you before I set off in case there's any update.
Mollychops
Wibble, thanks so much you are a complete superstar, What an effortXX
wibble58
Just back in, wanted to stay out but need to get back for granddaughter. Walked the river bank side from Wyesham to Redbrook. Posters put up in the shop at Redbrook, in the carpark to the bridge and then over the bridge to the pub and more posters put up. Spoke to Landlady who is aware from reading it in the papers. The pub is the meeting point for all the walkers, so she will make them aware. Met a couple with their dog and they are walking back from the pub through Wyesham woods and will put a poster up at their local shop in Wyesham.
Mollychops
Wibble/Butternut, if you can poster these areas , that would be fantastic. huge thanks for all you are doing
Mollychops
In the last hour a call has comein to say 2 black dogs in a field in WYESHAM, on the road between Redbrook and Monmouth, on the right hand side. 2 black dogs have also been seen outside the Redbrook shop. Jenny and her dog is having really good results, as they are tracking in this direction, she just texted me to say they were onto a strong scent, which is fantastic Trouble being the phone signal is rubbish in this area, so communicating with her is difficult, and vice versa.Im going to get hold of Wibble and inform her
Mollychops
Thanks Butternut, want to give me A call please. Admin will pass on my number
Butternut
Sorry I didn't get up there yesterday and can't today. I have everything crossed the boys will be found today, but if not then I can come up Sunday but can someone tell me exactly where to start, or I could meet up with wibble58 and work together? (Sorry I really dont know the area at all). Good luck today, please be found!!
wibble58
Nice speaking to you Mollychops, I will phone Helen sometime over the w/e. Going out again tomorrow with Hubby in tow if no other info has come in. Will print out some more posters. Have put mine on bright yellow paper to get them noticed but couldnt the laminator to work, so hubby will have a go for me. Lovely of the police to get involved and getting it on the radio. Keep safe little boys and get yourselves found.

Been postering and asking all the walkers I met. Apparantly police have been looking in that area too. Came back and husband came out with me as there was a number of dilapidated barns that I wanted to check out but was too nervous on my own. Is there any info as to exactly where in cox bury lane that they were seen ie., in a field or on the lane itself and by buildings?
Mollychops

Melanie
Thank you RunningNV and mayjul. Not Arthur and Furlong but enormous thanks for getting in touch. xMelanie
RunningNV
I really hope you find Arthur and Furlong - I have just added photos of the labs I found in the South East this morning so you can take a look just to be sure that these are not your two, I'm 99% certain they are not.
mayjul
There has been 2 black male labs found in the found section 67129 today but in the south east...worth checking. Fingers crossed x
Melanie
Hello, thank you everyone again. Your kindness has kept us all going. Out all day yesterday searching Woolaston and Clanna Woods (someone suggested dogs might make for the woods) but absolutely nothing. Perhaps the black lab seen in Woolaston last Thursday and Friday wasn't actually Arthur? It's been suggested by the experts that I start searching closer to home again. Starting from Croxley farm near Stowe, St Briavels / Newland area. Hoping all the local papers will run something this week. Thank you again for your kindness. xMelanie
wibble58
could someone let me know the name of the farm please, so that I know where is a good place to start searching
Mollychops
Yep, we will stay focussed on the farm where Arthur was sighted, and the surrounding area.
wibble58
So sorry Melanie that this was not the news we all wanted. Will start looking again around the Woolaston area. Keep strong x
Melanie
Monmouth sightings of two black labs were NOT Arthur & Furlong. They were re-homed yesterday with their owners in Monmouth. Thank you everyone. xMelanie

from FB. Two black labs seen crossing at the Dixton roundabout in Monmouth earlier this afternoon. They were heading towards the comps playing fields. The traffic had to stop to let them cross. Have been down there all afternoon & have left details at the Leisure Centre and Royal Oak Pub on the Hereford Road. Back out in the morning if they haven't reached home. Stay safe now boys x
Mollychops
Well done Melanie, you are doing a brilliant job. IT may be he is staying in this area. Could you ask the local farmer to check all the outbuildings please, as he may well be holed up someowhere in a barn etc, abd coming out to find food. Ask the farmer if you could possibly leave your dogs bedding there ,and some strong smelling food to keep him there, re my scenting info I sent you. I would concentrate on this spot at the moment , I feel maybe a search might scare him away at the moment if he is scared. and you must try and keep him there. As I explained yesterday, dogs who are lost, very quickly change. He will be frightened and Self preservation kicks in, and he wont necessarily recognise you straight away. Lets hope and keep our fingers crossed for another sighting today.
Melanie
Hello everyone. Sadly still no news of Arthur and Furlong. Arthur was spotted on Thursday afternoon and evening in Severn Vale Road area of Woolaston. Furlong was no where to be seen. Apparently he was really scared and has lost his collar. He was too scared to come when called. He disappeared into a farmers lane. That same evening a young man was shooting rats with his air gun on the farmland and thinks he startled Arthur as he saw a black animal dart away in the distance. I've been to the area much of yesterday and at 6am this morning but can't see him. I've put posters up in many of the pubs and petrol stations. Worryingly the lady reported the sighting in Woolaston to the dog warden and police and neither were helpful on Thursday evening. They said 'unless you can contain him we won't come come out'. If only they had called me. I could have been in the area in 10 mins. I have been calling the dog warden and police every day, twice a day since last Sunday !!! They didn't even mention to the lady who called that two labs were reported missing in the area. Sorry for the rant but surely this can't be right? Having said that about the police, a wonderful Sgt Simon Clence from Gloucestershire Police helped me enormously yesterday . the wonderful Helen suggested i speak to yesterday. Ill be out posting today. Thank you for the offer to join a search party - the area is so huge with much farmland. Do i just focus on Arthur in the Woolaston area? furlong could be anywhere in the surrounding area of St Briavels, Hewelsfield, Lydney, Newland, Monmouth, Coleford, Brockweir, Chepstow .... xMelanie
wibble58
Mollychops, I have been in touch with Melanie the owner by text but if you want my details I will ask admin to forward them to you, just let me know. Have something to do in the morning but will go out in that area again in the afternoon. Just praying that they are both found safe very very soon x
Mollychops
Ive suggested Owner goes to the same spot at the same time Arthur was seen last night, armed with some smelly food in case. She is doing a great job in the search re postering etc. Ive told her to get something asap in the local paper
Mollychops
That's incredibly kind Wibble. Ive passed on your suggestion of a search to owner, Im sure she is still out looking, as I know she has a few days off luckily from work. Can you please ask admin to pass your phone number to me so I can forwards to owner. Thanks very much
wibble58
Have been out for hours, driving round with my Border Terrier in tow. Hoping that there are enough people willing to come on a search if one is sorted. Stay safe now babies x

  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
