- 2014-04-16 18:30 fionap58
- Bless her heart! So pleased they've managed to do something for her. It looked as though it could cause her lots of problems in the future, getting caught and stuff while playing etc so it's good it's been tidied up.
- 2014-04-16 18:23 Clare
- What a lovely man Ralf sounds to care for her in this way. Short term pain and discomfort for long term comfort. Well done everyone who has made this possible. Onwards and upwards for this beautiful girl i hope x

- From Facebook
"Ralf has rung. Emmie has had 2 1/2 hours of surgery this morning and is now coming around from the anasthetic. Ralf is not usually one to blow his own trumpet but repeatedly emphasised how pleased he was with the results and said that he thinks we will be over the moon to so I am looking forward to seeing it. There was a lot of deep painful scar tissue that was pulling tight and he says he has been able to cut this back and remove it and move most of the facial skin that was left hanging back to where it needs to be. He has high hopes that it will not only look much better but she will be a much happier more comfortable girl when it heals. I have never felt guilty about a surgery before but this I do although of course I know it is for the best and needed doing. This girl must have been in so much pain when this first happened and without the right medication and veterinary intervention it must have been living hell for her. I feel awful now that she is once again probably back in a great deal of discomfort and I hope is not to mentally aware of her past. Ralf has also spayed her, x rayed her chest which is clear and taken some of the tail off to rid her of the old tail injury which was also left un treated and getting necrotic. She has gone through all of this gently and with a wag of her tail and everyone has become enamoured with her. Thanks also to Steve for committing to looking after her and I know he will have his work cut out over the next couple of weeks but I have every faith she will get tip top care. Once again I can not thank Ralf and his staff enough for the care and compassion he has shown to one of our dogs. Giving up his day off was above and beyond but he was committed enough again to make sure she got 100 per cent." - 2014-04-15 16:36 Bo
- Update from facebook
"Just spoken to the vets. Emmie went in today for her spay and Ralf has had a good look at her and does think that he might be able to make some facial reconstruction repairs. It looks like the chin area may be able to be moved to give her gum line better protection and the same with the skin at the sides. She also needs her tail amputating as that is not brilliant and her chest x raying because whilst in foster with Steve he has noticed that her breathing is quite fast. This again may be down to badger damage to her nasal area, something else that will be checked. He has decided to keep her in overnight tonight and to go in himself tomorrow on his day off so that he can operate with the luxury of time whilst Orianne gets on with the other stuff. Our little lass has quite a bit to go through tomorrow so good thoughts will very much be appreciated."
Thanks to everyone who contributed towards her vet treatment tomorrow. X - 2014-04-12 08:28 duffs54
- Bless her she looks so happy now, fingers crossed she keeps doing well in her foster home xx

- Today's update;
Emmi's first couple of nights have gone well !! The kids have met her at home for the first time. She's been having some crazy play time with Dougal and she's another mad tail wagger it looks like I've being slaughtering something in the kitchen where she's sprayed blood off her split tail !! Going well though, really pleased with how everyone's getting on.
She keeps pee'ing in the house as soon as I go in the other room, dribbles all over the place with the lack of the bottom lip and it does get a bit mad when they all charge round together but we don't need to mention those minor issues do we lol. She ace though, a lovely not so little slobber chops !! 😊"
I've updated with a photo of her lovely face.Last edited: 2014-04-09 18:53:05 by Bo - 2014-04-09 18:23 fionap58
- Oh poor thing! How she must have suffered at the time and yet, like you say, still manages to forgive and be a sweetheart!
- 2014-04-09 16:22 Bo
- Fiona - it seems that this is an old injury, there's not much they can do apart from trim and make sure there's no infection but she manages to eat and drink okay despite having half the skin under her jaw off as per the photo. When she's settled and put on some condition with good food and TLC she will be spayed, vaccinated and up for rehome with a new family. By all accounts she's a bit of a sweetheart and a very good girl. Amazing what they put up with yet still manage to love humans. Xx

- So cruel. Poor, poor Emmie, and poor badger too. Do hope this lovely girl finds a loving forever home when her injuries have healed. Just donated xxx
- 2014-04-05 13:28 Unknown
- Shelagh. These so called people are not human, they are sub-human. This type of thing makes my blood boil: a so called sport. As well as the dog, of course it is cruel to the badger too. I am sure that Emmie will find a loving home, because of the coverage, and circumstances of her predictament, she most certainly deserves the sumpathy vote. Sending emmie healing thoughts, and ((((HUGS))), and kisses for her injuries. GET WELL SOON Emmie. We are all rooting for you. Will definitely be sending a donation very soon. Whoever you are remember (As someone has said) Karma.

Poor girlie she deserves more in life than this, I hope she can be found a home, Greyhound Gap are marvellous and eking out homes out of xxx - 2014-04-05 06:59 Shelagh
- Omg that poor dog. Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a 'human'. What the hell is wrong with these sick people. I will share her details with as many as possible. Sending her positive energy, for a good recovery. Also small donation to gg.
- 2014-04-05 06:36 Bo
- Thanks everyone - she's an older girl which will make her very difficult to rehome especially as she is black (I'm saying this based on what GG say about their experiences of this colour). The likelihood is that she may be a long term stayer so if anyone knows anyone who is looking for a big soft older lady to live out her days in kindness and much love - do contact them as they are already >20 dogs over their "we can afford this" quota.

- How awful for this beautiful dog, can't believe someone would put this dog through such a cruel act. X
- 2014-04-04 21:24 Harvey boy
- Poor girl, is the area correct as Stoke on Trent would be central at it come under Staffordshire x
- 2014-04-04 20:08 Bo
- Direct quote from Lisa at Greyhound gap
" Half of the flesh on her jaw has been ripped off at some point meaning there is absolutely no coverage to the jaw line or jaw bone near her teeth meaning its all exposed. The flesh was not treated for injury or infection so there is bulk clumps of skin left and a lot of scar tissue. At the best they may be able to cut it back but not sure if the left over tissue can be stretched to make any form of covering. Its the worst badger related injuries I have seen to date. Totally un necessary and heart breaking. Even still she is a beautiful gentle waggy girl who wants to play with you and give kisses and was fabulous with my german shepherd cross boy trying to get him to play with her and chase her. She would make a real heart dog for someone if someone can see past black, older and bull x"
End of quote x - 2014-04-04 19:50
