Annie. No worries, what you wrote was very informative. I did check the prices online, and to be honest think they are worth the money, if it gives the owner peace of mind, and also help to avolid a tragedy. Good idea too I think for people with Alzheimers/Dementia, as I lost a family member with the condition who once decided to go "Walkabouts" in the middle of the night; but was found safe. Thanks again AnniexxxLast edited: 2014-05-16 22:06:32
Annie
Thanks Janie. I had not realised how much I had written as I was just merrily typing away, lol ! Glad it helps and yes, as you say, if you can get to your dog quickly you will hopefully avoid a tragedy.
Unknown
.Hi Annie. Thank you for explaining to me what a tracking collar is, and how it works. Although costly, is worth it as you say for owners peace of mind. Also may avoid a tragedy if you know whre your dog is. Thanks again for expolaining it to me. Now I understand.Last edited: 2014-05-15 22:14:35
Annie
Hi janiejewel1649, the tracking collar I use is a Retrieva collar which uses a combination of GPS and GRS (mobile phone)to track my dogs. It's a bit like having a sat nav on your dog in the form of a tamper proof collar and it provides live tracking (updated every 30 seconds I think)and can pin point your dogs location to within a few metres.
You set up your mobile phone to link with the collar and then just look at an app on the phone to see where your dog is on a map (or satellite image map), relative to where you are. You can also use your computer to view where your dog is via a website. On both mobile phone and computer you can also view the path he/she has taken over any period of time, so it is useful to see which direction he/she has been travelling in.
Probably the best thing to do is look at their website http://www.retrievatracking.com
Although it is certainly not cheap to buy, I think it pays for itself the first time your dog goes missing - I can't imagine being without it for peace of mind it brings. Of course you should still look after your dog as best as you possibly can whilst on walks and prevent from escapes from the garden etc, However,if you have an escape artist or a head strong dog who just decides that she wants to follow interesting smell rather than you then it provides a reliable way of finding them.
If you think of how accurate your car's sat nav is in knowing where it is, then it is the same for the collar. I have had the situation where my girl broke though our fence in order to go bin surfing around our neighbours' houses. I could see on the phone app that she was in the rear garden of one particular house, whereas without the collar I would have just walked by because I could not see her.
I believe they are also now using the same technology for people with Alzheimers/dementia in the form of a belt.
By the way, I do not work for the Retrieva, I am just very grateful for what they do!!

Brilliant! Welcome home lovely Charlie - what a clever boy to find his own way home. Stay very safe and close now xxx
Jazzdiva
Hi Anne, I wonder if I can help you out here. From what I understand from others that have spoken to your Dad, I fully understand the circumstances of where he came from. I would really love to visit your Dad with one of my dogs rescued from a similar environment and talk through the special needs that they have. I would like to make it clear that this is in no way disrespecting any advice given from Jo. I am positive she would have given very solid credible advice, but more to clarify your Dad's expectations of Charlie. Maybe by meeting one of my dogs (rescued 6 years ago) might allow him to re-think his expectations? Anyway, happy for you to call me on 07870 393401 (away until Friday Evening but free on all weekend to help if I can xxx)
Lady Bird
No, not inappropriate at all. I have been saying the same thing and he has spoken to Jo the dog behaviourist about the problem and hopefully he will have some help with charlie's fear and nerves. My nerves are certainly jangling. It is early days for a young dog as you say and the lengths that everyone went to finding him cannot be repeated!
Butternut
Thank god he has been found quickly this time. It was so distressing following the lengthy search for him before.

This comment may be moderated as inappropriate but could someone have a word with the owner about caring for a nervous/fearful dog? It seems rather too much is being expected of this young fellow too soon?
Unknown
This is wonderful news. I thought that too MillieVW. Perhaps he needed some "Me time" Pardon my ignorance, but how does a tracker collar actually work please? Stay safe now Charlie:-)xxx
mjh
Fab news :) Clever boy to find his way. I would also echo the tracker collar idea, dodging traffic to get home is always a risk. Either that or a lead tied around the waist, like the sort runners use with their dogs.
Annie
So pleased he is home again. I would thoroughly recommend getting a tracker collar - my labradoodle girl has one and it is worth its weight in gold.
Lady Bird
Good idea, I will suggest it xx
AlisonH
So glad Charlie is home. It might be worth getting him a tracker collar in case he decides to go walkabout again.

Lady Bird
This is Anne, the owners daughter. I've just spoken to dad and he said that Charlie had on his full guide dog hi viz harness and his lead. He was frightened by a child on a bike when they were sitting in the park and ran off. Hoping someone spots him soon or he finds his way home. At least he is highly visible this time. Thanks to everyone again for looking. Anne x

Again?!
Okay, please keep us updated. Will do a Tinhead, peartree hill, local plain and erlestoke woods walk tonight and tomorrow. Keep us up to date on sightings please.
mjh
Have done a slow drive by in Five Ash lane, on my way home from work, backs onto smallbrook and where he was spotted before. I'll try and get some posters ready too. Can't believe he wasn't on a harness ! This is the exact same scenario as before. Can only hope he's found sooner rather than later.
Jazzdiva
I will share on Facebook - unfortunately I am working up north until Friday night, hopefully he will be found by then, if not I'll be out on the weekend. Come on Charlie, get home safe

What fantastic news! Welcome home Charlie, home in time for your owners Birthday Celebrations today! Clever boy. A very big thank you indeed to all of Charlie’s amazing helpers, you have been totally brilliant. Can’t wait for you all to read the update! Here’s the email owner sent in the early hours:
“Charlie is home! found by a lovely couple at Seend this evening. home and happy but very thin and tired. please make sure that you all know how grateful I am for all the effort that you all have put in. thank you”
Lady Bird
GOOD NEWS Charlie is home, found tonight by a lovely family in Seend, in a kennel in their barn used by nesting ducks. I am the owners daughter down from Brighton and I took dad to Seend to reunite him with Charlie. We would like to thank all of you for all your unbelievable kindness and time you have all spent out there looking for him and especially to Clem and her family for finding Charlie and phoning us late tonight. Charlie is very thin but we have fed him and now he is asleep on the sofa and happy to be home. My faith has been restored in humanity. Thank you again all from all of us. A fantastic result from all your hard work.
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
Darn, Wootton Bassett, thought it was closer. Don't forget there's a travellers site fairly close to the lamb on the stand (next to crematorium), could have been one of theirs. Will keep on keeping an eye out :-)
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
Hang fire, there was a soaking wet retriever that looked like Charlie shared on my Facebook today which has been reunited, I'll see if I can find it x
Jazzdiva
Thanks Kate ♥ Troublesome area to search, busy roads with few places to stop and flat ground with no high ground to spot from :( Will try again tomorrow morning x
saarlooswarr
Ha must have been following you !!!!!! Have a friend who is at the lamb on the strand so she is keeping her eyes peeled and spreading the word :-)
saarlooswarr
Hi have done seend, seend head, worton, poulshot, great hinton, keevil village, steeple ashton, edington, bratton but nothing given posters out have ran out of laminated ones, boys still on the plain with our three woofers so will go back out in a bit .
Jazzdiva
Sorry guys, no sightings, had to stop search due to family commitments. I searched all around the Seend, Bulkington, Great Hinton, Keevil and Worton areas. I gave a policeman a poster out at Keevil Airfield and he has promised to put it up in the station. Hope the others have more luck tonight xxx
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Just looked on map, activity on the plain, could have pushed him that way. If it's not Charlie that's another dog to worry about :(. Good luck, looking again. Bumping due to possible sighting. Fingers firmly crossed.
saarlooswarr
Def doable off plain brat ton or edington kevil lamb on the strand def could be him , just sorting out dinner and dogs will go out
Jazzdiva
It's worth a shot - I'll head out there now, if it turns out to be a false alarm, can someone txt me please? 07870 393401 - Thank you
mjh
Gosh, but from the last sighting near Chittern/Knook on Wednesday this is basically a straight line accross Salisbury Plain so for a dog and in 4 days doable I'd think. He went this way originally I think, the first sighting wasn't far from here. I hope it's not him as he'd be going the wrong way for posters etc :( would be good to know more though.
Lilybear
This is really random but just to share… I’ve had a call from a good friend …….’ a golden retriever seen on the Seend towards Devizes Road at the bottom of a steep hill near a sharp bend soaking wet through sat at side of road’. Seen at app. 1315hrs today Sun 20/04. This would be the A361, nearest landmark – The Lamb on the Strand BA146LL. This is some distance north with a few obstacles on the way. I don’t think this is Charlie, don’t want to cause any confusion but thought I’d post it just in case. I’m hoping to speak direct to the person that sighted the dog for more info..
Jazzdiva
No worries, I can do it :)
saarlooswarr
Have just got back from the plain, didn't go to by golf course went the other way and into the the plain out to Imber village then shrewton lavington, Stoke hill and tin head so no posters by golf course sorry , will try and stick some up there tomorrow :-)
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Just to second what Lilybear last said: You are all doing an amazing job and doing all the right things. It's frustrating when they suddenly dissapear, keep at it team Charlie - You're all (and that includes you Lilybear) doing a great job, he's out there somewhere.
Jazzdiva
I don't know what it is called, but I have been up to the army area past the golf course entrance tonight, no sign and no posters, so will get up there again tomorrow if you don't get up to that area saarlooswarr
saarlooswarr
I am now up and awakeish so will be heading out later , have laminated some more posters so will be bombarding the country side later and taking a little journey into the plain later to see if any sign my mobile is on if any sightings :-) fingers crossed
Lilybear
I think you've all done an amazing job. Jazzdiva, have emailed, called all agencies I can think of, you've all informed your fab local contacts, posters are up.... hoping the weekend brings news of a fresh sighting. Charlie stay safe. Owners family are not actively searching at the moment.
Jazzdiva
I will be going back out this evening, probably out on the high ground by the golf course to see if I can spot him from up there. Hubby has car so I'm stranded until about 6, if anyone wants me to do any ringing around please let me know.
mjh
Have been back n forth around five ash lane today but not able to go out after work. Hopefully tomorrow will have a look on the plain but that's not my usual stomping ground so not overly familiar and I've got hedgehogs to sort for release too. Hopefully the range wardens are keeping an eye as well.
Jazzdiva
I have just got back from driving all over the Sutton Vrny area but sadly no sightings/

Have shared advice sheets with Alex and your information video link Bobble which has been well received by all the helpers.
Lilybear
I’ve just had a nice chat with owners granddaughter. Alex is visiting close to Wilts for weekend, is taking her grandfather out this afternoon in area he walked Charlie. If any sightings will look to respond. Thanks Alex, good job.
Lilybear
I've just spoken to the Wilts out of hours dogwarden service who knew about Charlie, they were brilliant & confirm they will call if any news of a sighting.
Lilybear
Good morning all. I've spoken to owner, sadly no further sightings. You've all been such a great help. Thank you for all you have done. Am working nights, will be sure to update if I hear anything.
Jazzdiva
I am heading over this evening on a spotting mission, as I have now managed to get hold of some binoculars. If anyone else is going to be out, can you let me know. Thanks Kerry

HI good to speak yesterday, see poppy 66926 may help you, good luck!! i have 2 XL cage traps, once you choose a spot..

One of my work colleagues just happens to be a close friend of the Salisbury plain range warden ! This is good news, he now has my mobile number and has spent the whole day looking for Charlie in areas that we the public are not allowed. He has informed all the guys he works with and they are all keeping a look out as well. They also know not to approach but just observe and report. So with this and the fact that the ranges are open ish over Easter as Kate has said, plus the estate workers on the other side of the A36, there are lots of people in remote areas that know about him.
saarlooswarr
Imber ranges open from 16.00 17th April - 06.00 22nd , larkhill 17.00 17th - 06.30 22nd Must have so map and stay to byways telephone info via automated service to give all relevant routes open is 01980 674763 gives more detail and guidance please ring this number before embarking on a tab across the plain. Also there is a government web site detailing rules and regulations when walking on the plain if you google sailsbury plain open times it will come up . Please do this so you do not go to restricted areas . Thanks Kate
saarlooswarr
I now have a loan phone so once again contactable via mobile
Lilybear
Sorry I lost a day due to ill health, you've all been so busy, so kind. I have again spoken to Highways Agency Ref:17732753 & have emailed Wiltshire Highways details of Charlie appealing for news of any sightings etc. If I should receive any news will send a text alert & update.
saarlooswarr
Just to say my mobile is really having a funny five min so off to get sorted this morning !! So I am not ignoring anyone just can't read txt or send ATM sorry .:-(

Mjh and Saalooswarr your local knowledge is invaluable and some very useful thoughts and info added.
saarlooswarr
I will try and find out tomorrow will whizz up to imber check point and see if signs out or if man landmarc chaps are about. My phone is now playing up !! so if you need me land line number is on here. the OS map has the plain with restrictions on and the public byways not all are open all the time though. Jo has been plotting sightings hope you feel better soon Jo. We walk around the plain all the time with our three and quite good knowledge of where you can and can't go the exercises are usually published in local journals so will try and get hold of one .
mjh
I think we are all singing from the same hymn book :) softly softly gently does it definitely. Just for information if it helps, what may look like a quiet road isn't necessarily so around here, Knook to Chittern is fast and busy but a minor road. A36 A303 and A350 are main roads and they surround where Charlie seems to be. Five Ash Lane and the Great Ridge are all frequented by dog walkers hikers, horse riders, etc. they are popular areas. The Knook to Chittern road isn't on farmland.. it traverses Salisbury Plain Military Training Area and access is limited ! You can't just walk anywhere there. This weekend being Easter means that some of the closed military roads may be made open to the public too so they will become busy. saarlooswarr is going to check that out :) Sorry that you're poorly Reynard, hope you feel better soon :)
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Excuse me Reynard that I added it first! It was all my message too - whoever told you to reiterate must be of the same mind as me. Calm, slow and steady is what is needed. Last edited: 2014-04-17 07:36:43 by Bobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex

I was ask to add that advice Bobbie i am ill in bed and using a Kindle so by the time i update often the good helpers here have beaten me to it.

DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
It is imperative that all helpers out looking keep in touch with each other, please, as already mentioned when you are looking, please keep main roads to your back, the last thing anyone wants to do is push Charlie towards traffic. You have been doing a great job and really need to all be moving in the same direction, away from the road. The estate team were doing a fantastic job, carefully and quietly looking for him. The advice added by Reynard is the same as has already been given and reiterated by Lilybear and myself. Please ensure a softly softly approach if you see him and your hard work will pay off.
mjh
Totally agree Ray, he will just bolt. I live in Sutton Veny He is staying within about a 5 mile radius of here, but he is crossing the A36 which is very busy as is the Knook to Chittern road. Will happily be led by Ray's advice but need to know where he is so we can leave food in the right place and be nearby at the right time :) Maps are good but local knowledge is also helpful :)
Jazzdiva
If we got enough people together, do think it is feasible to keep him in a safe area until the experts can do their bit?
saarlooswarr
yep he is all over the shop atm although in a triangle is a very big one :-( good in a way hes not injured but needs to slow down and stop going over such fast roads :-( come on Charlie stay still !
DogLostReynard
Ray,s advice is and stressed the need for all volunteers going out looking to be completely clear that they must not try to catch charlie as the motorist did tonight but to just ignore him and throw bits of food down and walk away. Need to keep Charlie in a safe area ( he i7s moving around too much and near roads!)
Im just repeaing and updating third hand so agree ALEX could you Call/txt all helpers when owner your Grandad has a sighting please?Last edited: 2014-04-16 21:26:38 by Reynard
mjh
Yes agree with saarlooswarr, we were out and very close at the time Charlie was sighted, but didn't know anything about it until hours later. Could have been there within minutes :( Good news about the not limping, if a little strange.
saarlooswarr
just a thought wonder if admin could send out txts to those who have put mobile numbers on when a sighting comes in ? or if owner phoned perhaps relative can send txt out ? don't know if this is possible at all ?

Hi all good luck today am unable to drive for 24hrs unfortunately but did keep an eye out on route back from Salisbury this afternoon hopefully there will be some more sightings :-)
alexandralorna
Hi grand daughter here. I'm hopefully going to be able to take him up to five ash lane on Friday.
mjh
I'll jump in the car in a bit and head towards five ash lane (the electricity guys are still there @ 3pm), see if I can meet up with Jazzdiva, then maybe we hop over to Haycombe Hill Farm on the warminster side of the ridge, unless anyone else has any suggestions ?
mjh
I think he was saying the boating lake in the park at Warminster, which leads to smallbrook meadows then hensford marsh then eastleigh and southleigh woods in five ash lane.. then sutton veny.. as the crow flies.. It's the route my daughter walks back to sutton veny from warminster sometimes, a direct line rather than the roads.. the owner told me yesterday that he's only done the walk once .. the day Charlie bolted :(
Jazzdiva
I'm about an hour away and I'm going to head for the woods to have a look around. If there any further sightings, please could you text me on 07870 393401 so I can divert off to the area. Many thanks Kerry
Butternut
Great thanks Reynard, hopefully that will be very helpful to people in the area looking. I thought he'd gone missing from miles away at the Lake Pleasure Grounds so I must say I am somewhat confused, but no matter...
DogLostReynard
Butternut :" was from henford marsh BA12 9PA up through woods to five ash lane, down five ash lane to mill (on left) and then cut through field back to henford marsh This is the route Charlie's owner took on last walk. Walked all that way off lead got back to henford marsh and walked up through smallbrook meadows, went to put his lead on and Charlie bolted "

Can the owner say exactly where he has walked him in that area, did he come by car and where did they park, did they always walk the same route etc? If Charlie does know where he is perhaps he might frequent the spots he recognizes and it could be worth just sitting there and waiting to see if he pops out?

Thanks for the links, very helpful. As there hasn't been any sightings today, can anyone suggest which area I would be most useful searching? Thank you
DogLostReynard
It looks like Charlie could be heading back on himself as after extensive searching yesterday he wasnt found :(
Is there anyone clever enough that could do a map of sightings please , and maybey post it to doglost - Swindon and North Wiltshire facebook page as a live link ?

lilybear is ill and indisposed today :(Last edited: 2014-04-16 13:03:36 by Reynard

Been out this morning walking dog from Sutton Veny, along Five Ash Lane and round Southleigh Wood but no sign. He'll probably have taken shelter from the sun now so will go out again later when it cools down. Perhaps we could try Bobble's idea of a nice, smelly BBQ to lure him out?

Butternut: Thanks for the link, could be very useful, Its a free service like DogLost so that's fine.

You can also get it here :http://www.bing.com/maps/#Y3A9NTEuNjUyOTAxfi0wLjE5OTYwMCZsdmw9NiZzdHk9ciZlbz0wJnE9U3V0dG9uJTIwVmVueSUyQyUyMFVuaXRlZCUyMEtpbmdkb20=

Bing maps give you the option of 4 types of map, including OS. On the page above, Five Ash lane is the small diagonal road running between Southleigh Woods and Eastleigh Woods. The great Ridge is the area under the main A36. Hope that helps :)

For people who don't know the area, you can see ordnance survey maps on this site at really good magnification: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/communityandliving/rightsofway/publicrightsofwaymapping.htm
Don't know if I'm allowed to post links here, so sorry if I'm not meant to!

mjh
Thanks Kate for the update, I'm popping out in a mo so will also do a quick sweep all around. I'll be able to have another go tomorrow after work and will drive five ash lane way there as well. Got your numbers so fingers crossed :)

Just got back from walking the ridge for an hour and a half by Haycombe Hill farm sutton veny towards Corton, can see for miles there too, so we were the other side of the ridge, the warminster side. He's around here somewhere.. no sign from me but depends which side of the b road near corton he was seen. The ridge side I take it. I just got in and need to feed hungry daughter! we also drove along five ash lane. After food and a call to Uncle about a dog he's just rescued I'll maybe head out again as the trail is hot. mobile signal around here is bad for my internet but can text if maybe someone can text me and let me know latest (07958616002)Thanks
saarlooswarr
Heading out to fivr ash in a mo so if mjh can do the ridge :-)
Lilybear
Thanks all. So much love for Charlie. mjh, I rang Butternut who is out walking in area of Corton, can see for miles. She is speaking with dog walkers/cyclists who know of Charlie. Met with saarlooswarr earlier who had a reported sighting approx 2hrs ago in the fields to the left of Corton heading towards Warminster direction.

I do so wish I was there to help you. Good luck everyone in the search for Charlie. Keep posting so that we know how you are getting on.

Okay, we're heading out between five ash lane and the ridge, will check both areas before dark. Have spoken to his owner, he has walked him in five ash lane and the meadows where he went missing from join on to five ash lane via a footpath.. its a shortcut avoiding roads..
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Well done everyone, Team Charlie you are doing a great job for Charlie and his owner. Like Lilybear, I wish I were close enough to be there physically, but I am with you in spirit and hoping he shows himself and someone can entice him with a tasty treat or suchlike to get him to a vet.

MJH: You know the area better than I do, could phone owner to see if that is somewhere they've enjoyed walking? Charlie will be looking for the comfort of something familiar.

Keep in touch with each other - especially if you get a sighting or positive report.
Lilybear
Charlies owner is a lovely man, he has good geographical knowledge so may tell you if it's an area they have walked together? Owner always has his phone with him just in case.
Lilybear
mjh, from the sightings we've had that sounds like a good idea, thank you. Butternut is about wearing a high viz tabard! saarlooswarr, well deserved I think! sorry I can't be with you all.
mjh
Wondering if I should head up towards Haycombe Hill Farm in a while, that's between the great ridge and five ash lane ? Anyone ??
saarlooswarr
I have roast in oven so will be heading home in a mo back out later
Lilybear
There were two independent sightings of Charlie this morning on the A303, on The Great Ridge Side. The Police, Estate people & two local DL helpers were soon in the area but sadly no trace of Charlie. At 3.35pm I took a call from the Estate – Charlie had been seen by a grazier running on three legs – the front left leg injured – from Sherrington Down towards the direction of Boyton. Again all locals alerted. Lots of lambs about. I’ve just spoken with Butternut who is visiting Wiltshire today, has followed her map and is in area now! Have text saarlooswarr Butternut’s telephone number. I have spoken to some wonderful people today, thank you all so very much for your offers of help, support and advice.
saarlooswarr
From sherrington to boyton last seen think might be heading back to five ash
mjh
saarlooswarr.. I am not too far away and just in from work.. If my dog and I can help search just let me know where and when, my mobile 07958616002. Is there a number I can call to offer my help. I live in Sutton Veny which would be on the way back towards warminster from the last sighting.Last edited: 2014-04-15 17:37:28 by mjh

Good luck, saarlooswarr - hopefully you will have a better chance of catching up with him tonight when it gets cooler. Let me know if I can do anything to help tomorrow.
saarlooswarr
Have been out for five hours looking and with police dog handler. Very hot out there and feel he wont be wandering atm . All gamekeepers and land owners informed as all private land think heading back towards warminster but i will find a map and try and work out where byway comes out. Going back out later
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Oh Charlie - you have someone with experience of catching dogs and at the moment this is a case for them as you have the sightings, at the moment this is not a case for a tracker dog as you have seen Charlie today and he is still in the same area. I have been asked to help and of course will do but lets see if you can patiently catch him first. If you lose where he is then that is when Tiga can help.
Lilybear don't feel it is too far, just call me again if you need to. www.k9tracker.co.uk Stay safe Charlie

I so wish I could help in the search for beautiful Charlie, but I am out of the area on holiday. I do hope that he is found soon and is not too badly injured. Good luck.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Please, if anyone is in the area and can physically help search, just remember to keep your back to the main road, so as not to push him towards traffic. Also remember your own safety is important and if planning to walk along the A303, do so facing the traffic, ideally wearing a yellow vest or bright clothing and ensure your car is safely and legally parked.

Butternut: thanks for your offer, I'll reply to your message as soon as I can.
Goldenfrodo
Fingers crossed this is Charlie and he's not badly hurt

** Sighting of Charlie ** 0705hrs this morning Tues 15/04 – A303 – single carriageway in area of Stockton Wood. Motorist was travelling eastbound A303. He witnessed an injured golden retriever walking on three legs, head hung low, walking along the hard shoulder towards him (westbound). Described as approx 1.5miles prior to the turning for Teffont Magna & the yellow speed camera. Two reported sightings. Police attending scene now – Log 49.
Lilybear
You've all been so busy, thanks for all you are doing - sadly no update from me just now.
saarlooswarr
Have laminated some posters and will pop about, have we any more possible sightings at all ? Been on nights but able to re commence tomorrow
mjh
jools32.. well done, I've seen some posters around, I'd help with that but my printer is having a domestic with my laptop at the moment. A good place to put a poster is longbridge deverill service station, it's used by a lot of locals and a friend who's greyhound went walkabout for 3 days was spotted and returned home because someone saw the poster there.
I would be happy to help search with my bitch (speyed though) after work. I finish around 3pm weekdays.

Thank you xx

I have news of a suspected sighting of Charlie via local police Log 276-12/04/14
Last evening, Sat 12/04 approx 6.30pm. A golden retriever described as very nervous was seen running stray in fields at Nightingale Wood, just north of Great Ridge. This is a * Private Estate * which runs south of the A36, south of the unclassified road that runs from Corton to Sherrington. The dog last seen towards the general direction of Sherrington.
I have spoken directly to the owner of the Estate who most helpful. I have explained the circumstances and the work of local helpers. The gentleman felt confident this could be Charlie stating that it would be approx 5miles as the crow flies from where Charlie went missing. I have forwarded on Doglost links which have kindly been shared amongst his friends in the area. A very big thank you to all.
The family and friends walked in search of Charlie last evening, talking with a group on an outward bound course. Sadly no further sightings.
The gentleman has kindly given permission for Doglost helpers to visit the area if in search of lost dog Charlie. There are sheep/animals in fields.
I have exchanged contact details and will keep him informed of any developments. I will update Charlie’s owner now, it would be nice to get him to the area if possible as Charlie may respond to him/his voice?

any new sightings?
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
@MJH It's a very good idea to take your dog. Maybe take one of those portable bbq's where he was last seen and cook up some nice smelling sausages to draw him out. Often works a treat. Handy that you are so close.

Nice weather should bring more people out, which could work either way ie more chance of sittings, yet he may well stay hidden.

Like Lilybear, I am just a bit too far to physically help - but good luck everyone who is, hoping he is still in the same area.
Lilybear
You're all brilliant, thank you for all you are doing for Charlie. Sorry I'm not closer to help. Hoping the sunshine brings news of more sightings.
jools32
Have searched/postered Five Ash Lane, Shearwater, Sutton Veny and Battlesbury Hill today. Will head out again later to poster other dog walker sites.

Thanks everyone for your help x Hope Charlie is safely back home soon x

Hi I have been out looking all week, the weekend is a little more difficult but will try and get out. The good news is that the guys who saw him this morning said he looked well but was very muddy.
alexandralorna
MJH - he loves other dogs, hes incredibly reclusive with people but apparently is fond of other dogs. He was bought from a farm that had 10 other golden retrievers too so it may help. In regards to not approaching him, if you can grab him without him being able to run off then do that. Thank you everyone for all your support and help.

''Golden retriever seen this morning at 7.30 running along five ash lane warminster. Spotted by electrical contractors who did stop but the dog was very nervous and ran into the woods. ''
This is very local to me indeed, a matter of less than a mile. I walk there a lot. I hope it's him as he's closer to home! If anyone needs help maybe a walk with my dog ( who looks like a golden retriever) if I can I will. Maybe having other dogs walking will help. Passing this on to my dog walking friends too..

Thanks Reynard - Lilybear is very experienced and knows the area of course help from mjh and jools32 would be great. However, everyone please respect the owners wishes and report sightings as soon as you can whilst not approaching Charlie, this is always a sensible option with a nervous dog. There are a lot of people working hard to get Charlie home.
Lilybear
I’ve just spoken with owner who has been out walking to help share word of Charlie. He’s walked Warminster golf course to Upton Scudamore, Battlesbury Hill talking to all he meets. Sadly no further calls or sightings. He spoke with Range Control on Monday. His family are not local, live out of County some distance away. He has my number to call should he hear anything. Thank you everyone for your help. The local police shared Charlie to their fb page on Sunday & have kindly left posters at local vets and library in Warminster. It could be Charlie has headed to SN10 area?
AlisonH
We do not have any numbers listed for alexandralorna so I have sent her an email requesting the correct number. Will update the page if I get a reply.

Admin please contact alexandralorna as the number she has given is not recognized.

I became aware of Charlie late on Sunday afternoon and made offer to help from afar. I understand that local fb had generated the sightings mentioned and have learnt that friends have been visiting the area since Sunday evening at regular intervals. The last confirmed sighting now was late Sunday evening. I am sorry.
alexandralorna
Hi, I am the owners grand daughter, its vital that if he's spotted not to approach him unless he approaches you. He was rescued from a previous home where he was abused. He isn't violent at all but he'll just run away if you get too close. If you can't get through to the above numbers please contact me at 07595122293 and I can tell my grandpa and dad.
mjh
I agree jools32 I live locally and would have been happy to go looking in that area at the weekend if I'd known. Have posted on FB again and hopefully he's in the same area, lots of golfers around there and villages so fingers crossed.

Charlie registered on behalf of owner who is registered partially sighted. Owner has had Charlie for 10 days having purchased him to train as an aide dog. He came from out of County and is new to area, having previously lived on a farm. Friday was the first time he had been let off lead, all had been well, almost home when Charlie spooked by something and ran off at 1030am.
At 2.30pm the same day the local police took a report of a golden retriever running on the A350, past the Granada Services towards Upton Scudamore. The dog described as very scared and scatty. Police did attend and searched area but sadly no further sightings. The Police Logs relating to Charlie for info are: 110 & 191 04/04/14.
So far the owner has informed the DW & local vets. Charlie is micro-chipped, details are current.
