Hi everyone! I am Leon's wife Amy. We finally got back yesterday and were reunited with about gorgeous girl! It was a bit emotional for all involved and I have to admit I she'd a few tears of pure joy! Ruby had her check up today and has a clean bill of health. She's been treated to a new bed and a new collar so is being spoiled rotten! She was a little quiet yesterday but last night decided to do her usual trick of lounging with her head on my knee and her whole body on my feet so we knew she was getting back to her old self! Today she is more animated and wolfed her dinner down on no time. It's such a joy to see her especially when there was that awful hour last week when we feared the worst.
I want to say a huge thankyou to everyone who was involved in Ruby's rescue from the very bottom of my heart. Without people like you who knows what would have happened you kindness and care that you have shown will not be forgotten, you went above and beyond without even knowing who we were, such actions from strangers is rare in today's world. You have reunited a family and my two little girls are over the moon, I'm glad I didn't have to explain why Ruby wasn't here when we got back as there would have been serious heartbreak Ruby is all they've ever known since they were born. And I'll finish there as I'm starting to tear up again! Hopefully the photos will go up soon!

So looking forward to the photos - well done Bazil.

Hi everyone.

Ruby's family arrived back home yesterday and we had a lovely, emotional reunite. Ruby was somewhat calm but so happy to see her owners Leon and Amy. When they took her to the car where their children were, Ruby jumped in the back seats immediately as she was so happy to see them. She did not want to leave the children when she had to get in the back where she sits when travelling. It was so nice to meet Amy and Leon. They have had Ruby back to the vets this morning for another check up an she is fine :-)

I have sent Jayne some reunited photos, I am sure she will add one soon.

Leon will log on later and add an update for us all.

Welcome home Ruby, you are such a gorgeous girl xx
SallyTB
Looking forward to seeing a reunited Ruby and her owners - hope she is settling back in well. I live just a couple of miles from you, I'm so pleased you have her home. S

Wishing Ruby's owner a very happy return. I am sure all of Ruby's family will be delighted to see their girl. Look forward to seeing some reunited photos.

Thanks again everyone for all the kind comments. It is what doglost is all about... helping to Reunite owners with their lost/stolen pets.

Ruby is settling well with her carers and being spoilt rotten.
Not long now for the BIG REUNITE with her family :-) :-)

We would be ever so grateful if anyone is in the area and see any of Ruby's posters, can you take them down please.

I have just called the Ship Inn at Low Newton, Joiners Arms in High Newton and the Spar shop in Longhoughton as they were all displaying posters for us. They are all so pleased to hear that Ruby has been caught and is safe. I have met and spoken to so many nice local people these past 2 weeks and really appreciated all their help. I have been following this story everyday as a RR owner but lived so far away to be able to help. I am so delighted to read such fantastic news (tears of delight), team Bazil what truly amazing brilliant caring people you are. I can only imagine the emotions of Ruby's family. Congratulations thank god for people like you.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Tx Jukesy! Have just spoken to Bazil who told me all about it...if only you had been informed earlier we could of used the scent of you to bring her in...it worked a treat as soon as she smelt your fleece and the babies blanket she wasn't going anywhere...so glad you managed to get hold of someone with a key to your property...saved our volunteers doing the rabbit option....see earlier posts if anyone wonders what this means! This is such an amazing story of how people can help each other and in the true spirit of why I set this site up....Do pick up a copy of may dogs today magazine and you can read the full story on us....and would you be willing for us to do an article about Rubya nd our wonderful helpers in a forthcoming publication please?
angi
this is really brilliant news :) Fantastic result from an amazing bunch of people but such a shame that if the family had known earlier the scenting etc may have got her in weeks ago.A very happy reunion at the week end coming up :) xxx
Jukesy
That is now done Jayne, and seriously we would like to promote and actively support this great organisation in anyway we can. When I return if you don't mind I will contact you directly to discuss this further. It is the least we can do.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Your welcome...there is one thing you can do for us and that's tick the receive poster box on your account so we can send you details of any missing dogs in your area. when we did this with details of your dog that's how we got everyone aware of missing Ruby and help came forth.
Jukesy
I can only echo the comments below to all those involved who have rescued our girl, to know there are people out there who volunteer their own time to do this service for strangers is extremely heartening. After finding out in the manner we did that she was missing in the first place we had an agonising 12 hours. The fact she is now safe and being cared for by someone we have never met but has shown more compassion than we have come to expect of society today goes along way to easing our worries though nothing will beat stepping off that plane and getting her home with us. I will do everything possible to show our appreciation for everything that people have done, however nothing we could ever do will match the debt we are in to you all. Thank you to all, and in particular those directly involved in noticing Ruby was AWOL, who spent days and nights assisting us with out us even knowing anything untoward was occurring and to those still involved in ensuring she is safe until we return in a few days.

Wonderful news. Amazing work by team ruby. So happy she is safe. Welcome home sweet Ruby

TEAM RUBY win on the night!
RUBY IS CAUGHT AND SAFE. She is shattered but seems ok and is having a check up at the vets this morning.

We got the family items with their scent on and put them in trap. Ruby got so excited bless her when she picked up their scent. She still would not go into the trap but lay sleeping very close to it.
At 11.30pm we drove cars across fields, closer to the trap and she did not bolt away. Full beam on, one of us got out armed with slip lead and after 3hrs of barking and running about but never going far away, she lay down and allowed strokes then slip lead on. It was bloody brilliant to watch. She was exhausted and so were we.

I am in contact with Ruby's family and we cant wait until they are home at the weekend to reunite Ruby with them.

Thank you to everyone who has helped 'Team Ruby'
Both online and ground work really helps get a lost dog home safe. Postering, watching (when a dog is being sighted)family scenting and lots of lovely smelly treats really do work ;-) ;-)

Lovely to meet you Ruby x

A big thank you to all who have helped us both online and out on the ground, get this lovely girl safe.

I have added a new photo of the 'real Ruby' that Jukesy sent to me.Last edited: 2014-04-22 10:52:19 by BBKM

My wife and I a eternally grateful for all the help everyone is being so far, I have spoken directly to both Bazil and Jayne, not an easy fete with a 7 hour time difference to take into account. Jill I have email you and from latest updates from Bazil Ruby does at least recognise the smells of home and hopefully we can get the rapid and safe resolution we all hope for. As I said before and direct to Bazil it is so nice to know there are people out there still willing go above and beyond to help complete strangers, thank you to all.
sarahw
Thanks so much Bazil and everyone else for all you are doing to help Ruby.

hello Leon . I am so happy we have been able to make contact with you ,I have been helping with catching Ruby Locally as I have a house at Beadnell. I go home today to Shotley Bridge so can't help on the ground again Sadly. as you know she has been spotted today and hopefully only a matter of time before she is caught. I just wanted to tell you what I have done today. I am happy to give you more details via email as I did go round to boarding kennel today and spoke with Owner directly . As you said there will be a time and a place for you to deal with her direct and ruby is the priority. I have been to your home today to leave Dog lost uk contact info and spoken to your next door neighbour who is keeping a eye open for you returning. I was told from Kennel owner you were returning today so I was a bit gutted to hear not till Sat. She is Safe and well watched by a dedicated bunch of people. I also spoke to a lady called Jill who lives at No. 18 on your street she will be happy to verify my presence today and had advised contacting the liasion officers tomorrow if we hadn't manage to contact you. We all share your worry and hope she will be caught soon. . Please email and a will give you some more details .
BBKM
Ruby has had her head in the trap so many times yesterday we lost count :-( today she is circling it and keeps walking past it. Great to get to speak to her owners hopefully with their help (and they are doing all that they can from Singapore) we can get her into the trap asap. We will be collecting items with the family's scent on. Ruby has lay down and is sleeping not far from the trap at the moment. I will update when I can, hope next one is the news we all want to hear. Sun is still shining, not very warm but bright, if she follows her routine she should be up and moving again any time now.
Clare
What a terrible situation to be in so far away. Rest assured the helpers on DogLost are the best and from what ive see of Bazil you couldnt be any luckier. Fingers crossed for you that Ruby is caught and home soon x
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Spoken to owner...no one has keys to his house BUT They have a rabbit that fascinates Ruby so I suggested (sorry Bazil and helpers) above and beyond ! a trail could be left of the rabbits poo...luckily for you girls...he said the person looking after the rabbit has a grooming brush...he will be contacting them and will call you. You could not make this up could you?
sarahw
Your welcome Leon, if my either of my dogs were lost I would want Bazil searching for them! It's good news that Ruby is staying in the same area and hasn't been scared away by people with good intentions chasing and trying to catch her! It looks like plenty of posters are up too. Sarah
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Jukesy has anyone keys to your house so we can lay a scent trail for ruby...ie the contents of your hoover bag...all that dust is your dead skin which the dog would pick up...also the dogs bed favourite toys etc would really help our wonderful helpers to gain her trust...and dare I say it any dirty socks work the best...also do you have a treat tin that they can shake....a favourite squeaky toy...a whistle...all would be of great assistance tou our wonderful experienced helpers.
How did you find out your dog was missing?
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I really hope that she is reunited soon. How awful for the owners to be in this situation.
There are lots of good doglost people looking out for Ruby.
Jukesy
Thank you Sarah, I have spoken with Bazil tonight and neither my wife or I can get over how much help is being provided. I would rather not make comments about the boarder we used at this time, there will be time for reflecting on that once Ruby is retrieved she is the priority at this time, needless to say we are more than disgusted. We are in Singapore with our two young daughters visiting my father, at the moment we are due to fly back Saturday night, so frustrating not only finding out so late after the initial absconding but being so far away. We have let as many people as we can know but we don't want Ruby scared any further away (she is shy and nervous, hence home boarding) as by the sounds of it Bazil and partner are in best position and are confident ruby is staying in same location.
sarahw
Leon my heart goes out to you, such a worrying time for you and being so far away, Bazil and I have said from the start that you should have been informed immediately so at least you could ask friends and neighbours who Ruby knows to help out. If you could make the friends and neighbours aware of this site we can all work together to get Ruby home safely. Personally I am disgusted that the kennels have not been in contact with you! Please try to take some comfort from knowing the people on this site are fantastic, very knowledgeable and will help in any way they can. Sarah
Jukesy
Hi all, I am Ruby's owner and am currently in Singapore, I have only just learned that she missing this evening. I have attempted to contact the kennels and have left my contact details to find out what is happening. Does anybody on here have any news for us? Ruby is a very shy and nervous dog though not at all aggressive, if approached by strangers she will avoid you, but if you do spot her and just sit she will come to you in her own time usually not long she just needs to do it in her own way. We are flying back from Singapore later this week, and have now asked some of our neighbours and friends to keep an eye out as they know Ruby. Any information we can get is greatly appreciated, obviously this is extremely hard for us to deal with only finding out tonight the 21st, being so far away and with 7 hour time difference. Thank you in advance, Leon
BBKM
Two calls today of sightings of Ruby. First she was in the top field near main road, caller was watching her through his binoculars then about 2 hrs later another call from a man who had seen a Ridgeback run through Beadnell Static Caravan Park heading towards Seahouses. He said she looked lost. Jill heading there now to check out latest sighting :-)
BBKM
Thank you to everyone who is helping to look for Ruby and reporting her sightings. As previously said we have been putting food and water down in the same place for the past week and it seems to be keeping her close to where we want to set the trap. If you see Ruby please let us know the time and place asap and do not try to catch her or chase her. Everytime someone calls her name or gets close she bolts. We need her to stay in the area and not be scared away. Unless there are lots of people in a group who can corner her (even then that will be difficult as she can jump walls/fences) then we really think a trap is the only option or her owners when they return from Holiday next week. We will be up there again tonight and tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Julie
Would it be worth asking the owners from the Ship Inn to put some food out in the same place each evening, but not approach her, then after a few days use a trap?
BBKM
Ruby was sighted at about 6pm tonight in the fields at the back of the Ship Inn. A lady on her horse was in the same field as her but Ruby kept her distance. Thank you to caller for reporting sighting.
dunedog
Walked up and down from ship to golf clubhouse but not a sign apart from what looked like a RR down on the beach but seemed to be with people. Very busy area today with a lot of huts occupied in the dunes. Posters at the clubhouse/ beach access rd might be handy. Hope she is caught soon.
BBKM
We would be grateful if people could keep a look out for her and report any sightings immediately or as soon as possible. You can call the mobile number above and on her poster. Please do not chase Ruby if you see her. We are trying to establish her movement times and locations of sightings to give us some idea where to put a trap, in a safe and secure place and that can be monitored from a distance. Food and water is being put down for her every day/night. I have postered Low/High Newton and a few other places nearby and on route. Ruby seems to be staying in the Newton-by-the-Sea area. We appreciate everyone's help.
gingernuts mum
Sharing on facebook....but on holiday in the area and heading home. I did notice a dog warden van on the road between Seahouses and Beadnell.....looked like they had gone to beach......that was on Wednesday....could it have been for a sighting of her ??
gingernuts mum
Saw the poster this morning in Newton by sea. Any word on Ruby yet? On holiday in the area and have walked Beadnell to Newton twice this week, coastal. in fact been walking this area for a week and ..haven't seen Ruby. Is there anyone local that could poster surrounding villages ? Just to alert other walkers. No access to printer, so I can't do any. I only knew of this when I saw poster in Newton, sadly...otherwise I would have spread the word when I met people on my walks. Hope she is found soon :-(
dunedog
At the ship will have a look around with my ridgeback pup

Sorry again for the delayed response basil. Yes I just live nearby and have friends who regularly dog walk in the area. Obviously she is proving very difficult to catch and runs off when approached.
DogLostJytte - Area Volunteer - West Yorkshire
It might be time to get a trap, and put food in it, start a feeding station, in the area she is mainly sighted. Last edited: 2014-04-17 06:10:43 by Jytte - Area Volunteer - West Yorkshire

Thank you for response anth006. Are you local to area and helping look for her?
I will be up there after 3pm ish to get some posters up and have a look about for her.

Sorry for the delayed response basil. She was sighted about 9.00 a.m.

Thank you Alison.

Bumped due to the sighting.

I am heading up there today with posters. Any idea what time she was sighted this morning please?

Can we have Ruby bumped again please?

Sighted this morning in cover around Newton Pond.

RUBY SIGHTED again today.. early evening running along the sand dunes. People have been out daytime and tonight but have not seen or caught this poor girl.
Hoping to get posters up tomorrow or Wednesday.
Stay safe Ruby.

Please bump for new sighting.
blue4190
With regards to this dog, it seems she escaped from a person who was home boarding her, obviously her owners are away. Chances are this girl may head for her home address (has anyone been there and checked alerted neighbours etc) Ridgebacks are naturally aloof with strangers, they will usually do anything for food, if seen best to crouch down and talk very quietly to her and have plenty of Scooby snacks to offer. I do so hope she is found soon.
missy
Hope she is caught soon, a lot of ridgebacks love their food, so maybe that's why she is near the ship inn
BBKM
My friend has been up there again most of today... no sign of her and no reported sightings :-(
He will not be able to go back for a few days so anyone in the area please keep looking for Ruby and if possible can anyone print a few of her posters off and put them up. The carpark at Low Newton needs some on ticket machines and also the carpark up at Linkshouse Farm where she was seen Sunday. If the Ship Inn and Joiners Arms could maybe display a one each and ask people to put the contact numbers in their mobiles so if they see Ruby they can call straight away that would be a great help for us. Any Posters put up in local areas would really help.
I am going to try and drive up again Tues/Wed but can't promise. I live over 45 miles away and wish I lived much closer so I could be out there helping every day.

Stay safe Ruby but please be seen x

Fingers crossed she is seen again very soon... and to the woman who she bolted from, if you haven't yet contacted her owners... you should hang your head in shame! Disgusting!Last edited: 2014-04-14 18:14:59 by BBKM
SallyTB
Yes - still missing but has been seen this morning at Links Farm area. Apparently, she seems to be fine, not too thin so she is either scavenging or catching. She seems to be very nervous of people and will actually speed up when her name is called. If someone who knew her better was searching there might be a chance to catch her but otherwise she seems to be just keeping on the move. At least she is sticking near the coast and not heading for the railway / A1. Will try and get up there later today.
BBKM
As far as I know Sally, Ruby is still missing :-( My friend has been up there again since early morning searching all the fields behind the Ship Inn up to the main road and is still there.
The area is very very busy with people today so she could be
laying low. She could have moved on or even be hanging out at the old quarry that has not been checked out yet.

If anyone local can start postering the area that would be a great help.

People could be seeing Ruby in different areas but do not have any contact details.
Thank you for everyone who is looking out for this poor scared girl.

Star isn't Ruby, she's been in rescue in Hull for at least 7 days and ruby has definitely been seen in newton by the sea, last reported sighting was Friday, as far as I know, its all gone quiet. Going to call alexa and see if she's been found.
Donzo Findmydog Canine
Fb post from Kerry Rhodes 8th April. 'Star, female rhodesian ridgeback picked up by DW in Hull. 'Star'is now up for rehoming having served her 7 days in the pound. Not sure if this could be Ruby but worth checking out. I have put this profile link on the post so someone can look into it further

**UPDATE**
A neighbour who knows Ruby and her owners has tried to catch/coax her to him but she run off. As far as I know a few people are out trying to find her. My friend Marny is up there helping to look for Ruby.
She was SIGHTED at 11.20am behind the Ship Inn then on the Golf course at 11.59am. Man tried to catch her at about 12.30/45pm.

Good luck everyone who is up there helping to get this girl caught and safe x

SIGHTING of Ruby behind the Ship Inn this morning. Can we have her page bumped please?
SallyTB
Ive been up again this morning but still no sign. Spoke to someone at the Ship Inn brewery who has a bunch of students visiting him /the dunes today and he said he would post on here if she is aeen
DogLostJytte - Area Volunteer - West Yorkshire
Eve, I have asked the lady who told me about the home boarder, if she can give me more info for you.
BBKM
Hi SallyTB, the contact number is my mobile because I still do not know the name of the boarding kennels and I don't know if Ruby's owner knows she is missing. So still have no other contact numbers.

If there are any sightings I can pass the details on to someone I met up there who was helping to look for Ruby.

Maybe the area around the Holiday Huts on the beach front down passed Farm Road. That is a good area for her to lie low and will be warm and sheltered if she can get under any of the huts. This just my suggestion from looking on the map. As far as I know there have been no reported sightings since yesterday about 4pm :-(

I am hoping to come up late tomorrow afternoon to have a look about and put some posters up.
SallyTB
Bazil - who does the mobile number belong to? Would they be able to tell me if Ruby has been sighted? Both Gill and I have been there tonight to have a look but need somewhere to start! Thanks SallyLast edited: 2014-04-10 21:41:24 by SallyTB

Thanks for info Gill and SallyTB. Hope this girl is found safe very soon x

Spoke to Alexa who confirmed thw sighting at around 4. I've offered assistance and also had a drive around but looking in a rural location with plenty of hiding places. The dog is very nervous and wouldn't let potential rescuers get near. Will try to speak to someone tomorrow and update.

Alexa's dog rescue no is 01665 576677....Eve Fullard x

COMMENT ON DOG TNEFT AWARENESS .......I am up in Beadnell very close to area sighted so I will keep a look out . A lady called Alexa runs a dog rescue in High Newton village very close to where she was spotted might be worth giving her a ring as she has a lot of contact with the Dog community including dog Warden in this area.Get her number off Alexa's Animals website.

Positive sighting at 4pm... hoping to get exact location. People on Facebook offering to go and help search for Ruby. She is running scared and is near railway lines.
SallyTB your help on the ground would be much appreciated.

If seen please do not chase, anyone helping, you can contact the mobile number above by calling or text. Last edited: 2014-04-09 18:31:11 by BBKM

Escaped from home boarder, where she has been before ,walked into garden and jumped the gate. Sighted at 4.00pm near Newton-by-the-Sea
DogLostJytte - Area Volunteer - West Yorkshire
SallyTB, I would telephone the above No and ask... it is the DL main phone No.
DogLostJytte - Area Volunteer - West Yorkshire
From what I understand, it is a rescue kennels, and a rescued dog, she has been sighted, but too scared to come to anyone.
SallyTB
Is there any news about this dog and where she might be? I live only a couple of miles from Embleton and can help if necessary.
BBKM
I agree sarahw..... they should have been informed immediately. Like you say even if they are away out of the country their family and friends could be out searching for her. Please keep sharing on FB. I am trying to find out the name of the kennels...
Unknown
sharing on dog theft awareness County Durham and other FB pages hope ruby is found safe soon xx
sarahw
I agree Bazil shocking if the owners have not been informed yet. Even if the owners are away on holiday abroad they should have been informed, they would be able to send someone to search who the dog is familiar with is and more likely to trust. This happened to my friend last year who had handed her dog over to the care of the Rhodesian Welfare Trust, he escaped and is still 'lost', if she had been informed immediately it's more than likely she would have been able to go to the area and 'bring him in'! Hope this girl is soon safe.

I live near here - can I do anything to help? Have there been any more sightings?

An anonymous caller has informed us that the dogs name is Ruby and they are concerned that this dog is running around near the main trainline and feels owners are not aware their dog is missing....and should be notified as the dog may come to them. will add a similar photo sso alerts can be sent out.

I have added all over Facebook, on Rhodesian Ridgeback pages, and to someone I know lives in the area.
