No more sightings of Milly.Perhaps it has always been a dog that people thought was her,but in fact it never was.Milly was seen the night she ran away sitting on side of A167,which she would do as she didnt like cars.I dont look on this site very often,as it is too painful,I only hope she is happy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

See if you can get a poster up on that bus-if he has seen her others may have as well. Also let all local postmen know.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Man just phoned tonight to say he gets a bus every morning at 6.30am,and he thinks he has twice seen Milly walked by a man in woodham area of Newton Aycliffe. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Might also be worth putting down a favourite blanket, especially if it has scents of the family on it. Also a bit more expensive than pilchards, but grilled steak is a doggy mouth watering treat that my youngest Dobe will even stop chasing squirrels for. Good luck with MillyxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Right Ann I'm coming down this weekend with my dandie and tins of pilchards Tell me where to meet you or I will just go to Aycliffe anyway. Get your bottles of wee from the household I'm off all weekend Stay positive - she's getting closer Ann xxxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
Get some food down regularly in the area where she was seen, top it with pilchards. The smell will attract her. Start scenting also, urine or vacuum cleaner contents nearby. That she will recognise and return. Don't try and chase her. I have pm'd you...judyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good news, maybe a trap would help if you know roughly what area shes in, maybe doglost know of someone in the area with one?? I dont know if she'll let anyone near her now so maybe food is the best way to catch her! Good Luck! x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Anne, that's brilliant news! What a clever little terrier she is, but....if she's been living wild for a month she'll be more or less feral by now, and it's unlikely that she'll come to you straight away. You need help and advice on how to catch her. Look at Alleyn (GSD) from 24.08.06, and maybe someone from Doglost can give you more advice as well.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Milly has been seen,a few times in Newton Aycliffe,a friend saw her on fri night just before dark, but couldnt get to her,she was looking very hairy and tatty, she seems to be running wild,we have been in the area ever since, walking, and shouting, none of us have seen her yet. I cant believe this lady who has Milly hasnt rang yet, what's she playing at, she obviously doesnt realise how much shes missed or she would have rang by now!! I think you may need to stalk Peters Bakery for any signs of the customer maybe the staff will help look out for her or somone else may call with details after seeing Millys posters. Don't give up hope Anne, i'm sure she'll be home soon xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Any more news of Milly? Have you been to Peters Bakery? Is the woman who said she knew where Milly is a regular customer? If someone is keeping Milly that is THEFT - and surely if this woman knows where Milly is, but won't say she is 'aiding & abetting'? Perhaps if that was pointed out to her she might come up with an address?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Anne hope you and your family are doing ok considering the stress your going through!! I visited a new kennels in tofthill dont think it has a name yet Milly wasnt there but gave poster I didnt get a chance to go to Ramshaw Rescue, its only open half days I've been told? Theres also dogs trust at Sadberge 01325 333114 and Thirsk adoption centre 01845 577759. Maybe its also best to ask to have a look round just incase different people working at the kennels havent seen her come in! Also as cesky 2000 said maybe friend/family can put posters in their car windows. Hope Millys home soon. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What's happening in Aycliffe this weekend, Anne? Car boot sale? Flower show? Church services? Wherever there are going to be lots of people, get out and poster. A5 size handouts are useful - you can get 2 on one page for a start (doesn't take so long to print!) and you can give them out more easily to people.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have resent Millys poster to Darlington Dog Wardens and the rescues in the area. Have you tried Farplace Animal Rescue 01388 834644 and Ramshaw Rescue 01388 834644. Have you tried the local free papers they can be very helpfull. Make sure you mention your story as you have told us. It will make them realise how much Milly means to your family. I really hope and pray that she is home soonxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another thought, what about markets? Ask stall holders to take posters - they will go on to other areas on other days. Put a poster in your car. What about the NFU? Do they have a local office or a website that will publish Milly's details? When Joss went missing form the A1 we thought he would have been taken miles away - but he was found about 20 miles from home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Keep positive Anne, you've got good friends here who will do their best to help you. Have you spoken to the LOCAL papers? They are much more likely to be sympathetic. The secret is to get Milly's details EVERYWHERE. Have you sent posters to all the local vets and rescue kennels? What clubs are there in your area? Even though some will be closed for the summer, there must be some activities still going on - are there any children's summer clubs that would pass the posters out? Give some posters to the postman and ask him to give them out as he goes around. How old are your children? Could they do something - it will help them to feel that they are involved in getting Milly back. We're all rooting for you - someone out there knows where she is, it's just a matter of getting in touch with them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Will try but not sure in which direction to go, as if Milly was picked up on north bound A1m,she could now be in Scotland.I did try Daily Mail, and Sun, but they were very rude.Milly was bought to help family recover from the death of my sister, and brother in law in car accident,my mother dying of heart attack, then my brother aged 36 also of heart attack. The church have now told us to leave our farm after 448yrs,which they did before my father had buried my brother.so all in all not a good time to lose Milly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have you been in touch with local radio? The KC has been pushing the vulnerable breeds - which include the Dandie - and radio might be interested if you can tie in her disappearance with the threat to the very existence of the breed as a whole. Ditto local papers. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Anne we talked on Friday. Sorry to hear Milly is not home yet. Did the game keeper check if she had gone to ground? It is what they were bred for. I have given a workmate posters who lives at Bear park Durham. I will put posters on the main notice board at Freeman Hospital Newcastle. I also visited the dog shelters an Newcastle - she is not there. I also showed them what a dandie looks like...... Good hunting let me know if I can be of further help. Still happy to come down and walk in the area. AnnLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Anne, have you tried asking your local (or even city centre) newsagent if they will put posters in the newspapers so at least this way it gets into households and makes more people aware. I'm thinking of you and your family and hope that milly comes home soon xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree Cesky2000 - I wish it were compulsory for ALL dogs to have a PASSPORT, to accompany them when they are sold and wherever they go. Something has to be done about dog theft soon. Meanwhile everyone, PLEASE CHIP YOUR DOGS! I hope at least Milly will be home with her family very quickly now. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Anne, it's important to get as many posters out there as possible. Someone must know where Milly is, and the more posters there are, the more likely someone's memory or conscience will be jogged. Can the children help? Even though it is school holidays, they can tell all their friends - children are great at noticing if there is a new dog around. And those children will keep reminding their parents - and so the word spreads about Milly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I would have thought that a majority of show dogs ARE chipped - we are offering chipping at our club show on Sunday! (Half the price of most vets!). Any dogs that are shown abroad have to be chipped for their pet passport. Maybe the time is coming when ALL dogs must have a passport (this is the case in some European countries) and it would then be illegal to sell a dog without it....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As the secretary of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club I can categorically say that we actively encourage people to have their dogs chipped - We have run a number of events that have included chipping as part of the day. I hope Millie is returned soon - Please can I add there is no such thing as a Grey dandie - they are either Mustard or Pepper Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I too have never, ever heard anyone say they don't chip because they show. I know a few years ago some people were a bit reluctant to chip because of fears that the chip might 'migrate' under the dog's skin and consequently be lost/un-readable. There were also doubts about the reliability of the system because of incompatibilty with scanners etc. In any case there is always the good old tattoo. My Saluki Shantu was not chipped when he was stolen (he is now though) but he was identified by his tattoo. However, this does not help Milly. Hope she comes home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That does not make sense at all. As I said it will make no differece to the dog at all in terms of showing it at open, champ shows ect. I have never met anyone who has said that they would not chip because they show. Then again the people I know all love their dogs as part of the family first and foremost and are reputable breeders and owners. Don't give those of us who enjoy showing dogs a bad name!!!!!My youngest Dobie loves it...and is chipped and tattooed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Polly that's a first for me! I show my youngest Dobie, so know quite a few people of various breeds who show and they most certainly do chip. No reason not to really, not as if it will spoil the outline of the dog...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
