- Where Found Southrop and Eastleach, Gloucestershire
- Found In Region South West
- Found In Post Area GL7
- Date Reunited
- Other Info During a walk along the Leach river between Southrop and Eastleach in Gloucestershire we spotted a very sick looking, emaciated CHOCOLATE MALE Labrador. The dog was in appalling condition, very thin, and clearly distressed. We tried to make contact with the local horse owner and pub landlord to no avail. The dog was also accompanied by a smaller terrier (possibly cairn cross border) which was hunting nearby although we were unsure if/how they were connected.

- Been following postings of this poor dog. Do you think they/he could change times because of so much activity. Maybe they coming out early morning or late at night to avoid so many people.
- 2014-04-21 21:34 Mollychops
- Thanks Snoopdog I think they should be left up for the meantime, maybe a week or so. If you could take down then , great, thankyou
- 2014-04-21 21:28 snoopdog
- Hiya do you want me to take down the posters or shall we leave them up...? There aren't that many but just let me know I can do that for you ...?

- When I searched yesterday I textd Reynard the fact that the sheep were very quiet

- Was fabulous to meet Abi and Snoop...both great girls..and it was really good to see help! One thought I've had this afternoon: the first 100yards or so (after going over 2nd stile from narrow part of access to fields by the cottages) were 2 smallish paddocks and a small copse rammed full of rabbits ..with a field of sheep further right as you head away from Southrop. No sign of nervousness or disturbance with either this morning...if a dog was about the other animals wouldn't have been so relaxed. I wonder if it has moved on to outskirts of Southrop somewhere, or back towards Eastleach.

- Thanks JO Snoopdog and Abi, for your tremendous effort today. Ive a feeling that these two are local and what I label as free range . If that Lab was as poorly as was seen , he coundnt have made his way to that field on his own. If he had been dumped, as I first thought, he would still be there

- It's interesting that travellers have been mentioned as it has always been strongly suspected that Brook was stolen by them or passed onto them. It would be brilliant if someone could put a few of his posters up near by to remind them that we are still looking. Maybe after 3 years they are ready to give him back!! x

- Just got home with no sighting of stray dogs:(( I walked from Fyfield to wards Southrop across the fields, then back up the river. On the plus side there were plenty of local people out and about, great to meet up with Jo who had better scouting skills than me, and Snoopdog. I feel pretty confident that if the dogs were still in the area they would be picked up by a caring dog walker. A lady who walks a 4 mile loop with her cocker every day says she always has a spare lead. Just hope these dogs have lead us on a wild goose chase and are safe somewhere.

- Good luck to all of you searching and thanks for trying
- 2014-04-21 11:16 snoopdog
- Met Jo and Zoe out walking think these 2 dogs have either split up weren't a duo or have moved on or hoping they've been picked up..? Just back took out my 4 hounds armed with cheese, bacon and posters but nothing..:( will keep an eye out .. We know most of the dogs that live in the locality and none of the descriptions fit any locals hounds ..:( hoping they have been picked up or found by their owners but will continue to keep an eye out... Can we email local vets and blue cross at Burford to get their details distributed I wonder .. Thanks for trying just disappointed we didn't see them today :(

- No sign at all...Met Abi (Zoe) and her pocket of cheese (!) for a dual search then we split in different directions. I spotted lab' sized footprints (made in last 24hrs) on footpath leading from those two cottages on the photo..about half mile towards Eastleach - several in the mud - but they were heading back towards Southrop..no dog footprints heading the other way. I postered the village hall notice board and to a man at a house bordering the fields where the sighting on Saturday was- he has bene up a ladder painting for last 2-3 days and saw nothing. Met Snoopdog and her own dogs at about 10.15am..she was heading out with posters and searching towards Eastleach. Sorry..really wanted a result. Jo

- I live by the river Leach our home overlooks the footpath at Fyfield which is in between Southrop and Eastleach. I have printed off a couple of posters so will put these up... There is a farm that isn't too far away that may know these two dogs I will check but there is an awful lot of travelling activity going on at the moment as Stow Fair is coming up ... Southrop has a field where some of the travelling community and their families keep their horses and foals so there's a lot of coming and going to check on them. Perhaps these 2 dogs have been left behind by mistake ...? I am going to be walking this footpath with my 4 in about 40 minutes so will keep an eye out for them .. If I see them I will let you know but as it's Easter weekend a lot of people are passing through and as it's been the school holidays maybe they have simply taken themselves off hunting and got really lost ..:( ? - Well done Molly...I will see what can be done about heading over to that side of Cotswolds tomorrow. If anyone else can spare time in Southrop please let this list know. Weather this evening and tonight is wet and miserable.. worsening an already bad situation for this dog.

- I nearly missed the footpath entrsnce , its squeezed between two cottages opposite the manor . There is two stiles and then a fenced walkway which leads into a field where the dogs were seen Easy to miss this. Then the fields are permitted for the public, lots of right of way here off to various areas, such as Eastleach Fifield etc
- 2014-04-20 17:33 Jot cotswolds
- Just seen updates: that poor dog. On google streetview there seems to be a triangle/layby opposite Thyme Cookery school/, Southrop Manor entrance...is that the entrance to field where it was seen? is it a public footpath? How much or the riverside there can be accessed without permission?

- Lots of very helpful stuff going on here, thanks everyone. Update....The lab is male and Chocolate, Ive updated the poster. Just got off the phone to the kind lady who saw them and reported them to us. I was there for a couple of hours earlier, and wandered around the area where they were seen. Sadly no sightings. Ive postered Southrop village, the village pub, who took a poster, the adjacent village Fifield, and the Fairford Stores. I met a solitary dog walker in the fields who took my number. Lets hope we get some fresh news soon

- I have spoken with the lady who spotted the dogs, and will head out later on to see If I can see them. The lab sounds in a very bad way
- 2014-04-20 07:02 labradorloopy
- The nearest Labrador Rescue is 'The Labrador Rescue Trust'. Please make contact with them, I'm sure their members will help - they might also know who these two belong to. A thin lab is not good - sounds like he's too ill to hunt for himself. Good luck with capturing them. It sounds like time is running out.
