- Another big push to find Alfie is taking place within the Border Terrier community. At some point this boy will have to be taken to a vet and, hopefully, he will be scanned. As ALL dogs are required to be microchipped this year by law, maybe Alfie's existing chip will be found at this stage? Fingers crossed.

- Can not imagine what it must be like to loose a much loved family pet and not know what happened to them, also do not understand why anyone who finds a dog thinks it is appropriate behaviour to just keep it. I hope you have news of Alfie soon.

- Lynne has found this one David http://www.strayaid.co.uk/view-details.php?id=2892 Good luck. I scanned a collie dog last weekend which was supposed to be chipped. Couldn't find one, either chip had popped out after being implanted or for some reason it may had been a faulty one. Keep your hopes up David one day when you least expect it he'll turn up xx

- David don't give up hope. I've been microchipping dogs for approx 8 years now. I always double check with my scanner before I microchip a pet. Microchips can migrate so I check the entire dog. Some people with scanners don't always check the dogs hind or chest areas. About two years ago a guy brought a jack Russell in to be chipped. I scanned the dog and I found a chip near its back leg. He had got the dog from a rescue centre, they had missed the chip. Thankfully the guy asked me to get in touch with the previous owners, I did and I was surprised that this little terrier had been lost 3 years before. I was there when they were re-united, I cried buckets, we all cried buckets. I would call the kennels again to check they both were microchipped and the owners brought ID before taking the dogs. By the way the jack Russell was lost in the Cotswolds, he turned up in Scunthorpe. Wish he could of told us his tale. Goodluck and hope he turns up soon.

http://citydogshomes.co.uk/city%20dogs%20home/small%20dogs.htm - 2014-06-25 19:26 david
- phoned the kennels first thing this morn, both borders had been claimed, back to square one!! does anyone know that if dogs are microchipped and they scan them when found do the dog wardens automatically contact the details on the chip and do you have to prove that the dog belongs to you before you retrieve it? i wondered as when i was told today that they had been claimed he didnt actually say by their owners as now i worry that anyone can go and claim a dog that isnt rightfully theirs, also it appears that you only have small window to make a claim before the dogs are re-housed, so what happens if you havent been contacted that a dog similar to yours has been found? more to dwell on!!! wish he would just turn up, its heartbreaking. 9 weeks now, too long to be still roaming around i think....
- 2014-06-24 22:11 david
- thank you for the information, the acorn kennels is the one i've been ringing and no one picks up so i keep leaving my details and they dont return my calls, i will be on to them as soon as in the morning. i see there is two borders on chester stray dog pages, will let u know how i come on, fingers crossed.:)

found these two numbers on the council website hope they help if they are making you wait I would pester them good luck - 2014-06-20 21:56 david
- have looked into this although how difficult is it for dog wardedns just to scan a lost dog? it took ages to find the dog on the animalsearchuk site then i forwarded a message via the site on wed, still havent had e reply, rang the chester council today then they put me through to the dog kennels where border is held its open from 8-6 7 days a week, no one answered the call and here i am still waiting for a call back having left my details 9 hours ago!!! so annoying, we are still so up set at loosing alfie and are almost demented by the whole thing, 8 weeks now and i feel we will have to move on from this as its getting more and more unlikely that we are going to find him. we have done all and more, and people have been so supportive, but it is mentally draining, where on earth can he be?? has someone kept him, is he trapped and has died we really need to know!!

- just put an advert in this weeks journal, chronicle and the sunday sun which covers from teeside up to the scottish borders. dont know if this will help but who knows, atleast we feel we are doing something. havent heard anymore on the sighting near appleby nor have we heard if the other border in that area has been found, so we will continue to live in hope. thanks to u all for the help.

- Stay positive....we are all helping to find Alfie in our own little ways....if someone is holding him, someone else will notice eventually....Poster everywhere and keep looking ...Amazing how long dogs can survive on their own before they are found safe...sending more positive vibes for Alfie and you xx
- 2014-05-26 13:44 david
- heard no more on the possible sighting yesterday, awful, after 4 weeks our hopes were built up again but left bitterly disappointed. a friend has been down country this weekend and issued flyers at a country fair, as we are adament that someone has kept him, i just dont believe he is still roaming the wilds alone. please please keep looking where ever you are in the country, my only hope now is that because he suffers badly with a condition involving his genitals and by now he will need to see a vet, if someone has kept him and cares enough to take him to a vet he will be scanned, but i feel now we are clutching at straws. we keep advertising where ever we can and keep circulating posters, if you relise a neighbour or a friend has recently aquired a border terrier out of the blue please ask the questions where, when and how!!!!! we just have no idea on where to search now he could be anywhere! many thanks to all who have been supportive and has helped with the search.

- There was a sighting of a Border Terrier this morning in Appleby at 9.30, this could also be Jess (69384), missing from CA10, if you are in this area, please keep a look out x
- 2014-05-23 18:16 david
- thank you to those who have printed posters off and sent them to the local vets. we feel if alfie has been taken then sooner or later he will have to go a vet as he suffers with a problem with his genital area, he becomes so uncomfortable with this he cant eat, drink, or settle as he is in so much pain. its so important that as many vets throughout receive a poster to prompt them into scanning dogs.
- 2014-05-22 22:06 tkdowdy

- David, don't give up any hope - these ar e canny little dogs. But please keep looking in the very local area to where you lost him- I say this as I was involved in the hunt for Barnaby a BT lost on Lulworth Army Ranges in Dorset, there were very few sightings reported and as it turned out none of them were him, his owners searched day and night with nothing as reward, we had a heap of volunteers out walking over the ranges whenever there was public access and all the ranged wardens and gunnery crews were aware and actively looking for him but still nothing - until- one month, to the day he appeared, spotted by a fisher man out on his boat and he was on the ground less than a 1/4 mile from where he had last been seen!
So please keep checking the area.
We came up with all sorts of theory's as to which way he would have travelled and how far etc and to be honest got to the point that we just did not know where to look next, we revisited many areas and his owner spent hours just sat up on the ranges looking and calling. I am sorry that I cannot give practical help on the ground but I am willing you all on and looking each day for the post that tells me you are reunited.
Just a thought but is there a local radio station you can contact, also getting the info about him to the Tourist Information centres sounds odd but many people visit them before heading off out and about . All hopes and prayers with you Alfie from us down here in Dorset. xx - 2014-05-05 20:13 dunedog
- Are Keswick and Cockermouth mountain rescue aware? Might be worth a call if not. I work with some of Cockermouth MRT so I'll ask them to keep an eye out tomorrow if they don't know already.

- it was at the top of the pike above the end of the mine road, we have walked the walk 7 times since last sat, been along the mine road several times in the light and the dark and i truely think he has come down from there, because he would of come to us when we shouted. i sincerely hope he does turn up but it gets harder as the days pass by.
- 2014-05-05 17:47 dunedog
- Whereabouts on grisedale pike did he go off? The boxer lost a couple of weeks ago stayed where he was lost within 100m. Do u have a grid ref? A setter a few months back did head down but stayed in cover for days so fingers crossed he'll show up soon.

- been there agian today, nothing. have put poster in booths at keswick the other day. lots of borders in this area, is it alfie that people keep seeing? i now have my doubts, this is a very friendly dog and i'm sure if he was around someone would have him by now. more upsetting everytime we return home without him, 9 days missing and still nothing, perhaps he was taken last saturday after he was lost and maybe not in this area at all. all the family so upset. thanks again to all that have looked and helped.

- I've just spoken to David, they stayed the night again last night but they have just travelled back home to Durham. They have put lots of posters up in the area and while out searching, everyone is stopping them to ask "are you looking for Alfie", so people are aware. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before Alfie is sighted again and his owners get that all important call. Please continue to look out for him and keep sharing his poster. Thank you x

Just spoken to David, the whole family is distraught.
David parked up at 8am on Saturday at the layby just outside Braithwaite, going towards Whinlatter. Alfie went missing at 10.30. Owners are there searching every night but no joy as yet. Some of their neighbours are going up on Saturday to do another search, the weather is going to be nice tomorrow, let's hope he shows his lovely little face :)
Thank you to everyone for your help, please keep spreading the word x - 2014-05-02 15:05 Jayne - Founder Doglost.

- Excellent thank you :)
I have made contact with David tonight, he received a call earlier today to say Alfie had been sighted this morning on the path down from Grisedale Pike. David has been there again today but has not seen him. Posters have been put up in the area and an advert will be going in the local paper, just waiting on confirmation on this. David is thinking of going up and staying overnight in the van tonight, as Alfie loves the van and may come to it. I will update as soon as there is any more news :)
I hope to see Alfie back home asap x - 2014-04-29 19:16 maggiesmam
