Agree with all you say Jayelle
BorderCol
so had Jack been stolen from his owner by her ex partner and then sold? And then had he kept quiet while she went mad for four years wondering what had happened to Jack? Surely that is a crime.
fh
I have fostered a lot of dogs over the years and I have been to the vets on numerous occasions with dogs that were not my own. None were ever scanned routinely. I could have stolen them, or found them and not reported them. The only time the vets scan a dog is if someone takes a stray in and they are trying to locate the owner. They did scan a dead cat I took in and found his owner, but I think if someone turns up with a dog they claim is theirs the vets accept that in good faith. I am not sure how you change that culture. They are not being paid to police chip registration is correct, or track down stolen dogs.
ClaireC
Fleur but vets have easy access to chip companies and tell them they’ve got a dog with chip no! They will tell Vet who, what and where and make the necessary Fone call to owners and advise where Dogs is very possibly. What they won’t do is give out this info to any general member of public! I believe this is how it works!
Unknown
So pleased original owner has closure and very kindly allowed new Owners to keep Jack , lets hope more get home soon x
Fleur
re all the comments about the vet not scanning - the vet could well have scanned and seen a microchip, entered the chip on the records even. Scanning will only bring up the chip number on most machines (I believe Halo will also show "lost"). Without logging in to a database if just the number is shown on scanning the vet cannot see any notes re lost, stolen, even whether the chip has been registered.
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
Jacks registered owner has now met the current owners. they apparently bought Jack off Gumtree innocently (looks like from the ex husband of owner) they have loved him/cared for him & owner is happy for him to stay where he is.
Registered owner is going to arrange for chip details to be changed to current owner.
Still a mystery why he was never scanned by the vets where he is registered (no names being mentioned, but may have a word with them)
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I have been told that Jacks owner has only temporarily left Jack with these people who have had him, until she gets back off holiday & can sort it out.
#stoppettheft
Oh, Seeks, I Hope this gives you lots of Hope to one day be reunited with beautiful Pup xx
I too am amazed that this Dog has never been scanned - well, some Vets don't do they :(
but surely an owner would take a 'new' dog to be checked over & inoculated annually ?!
I DO Hope that Jack's new owners can help with the details of how they acquired Him
Unknown
So pleased Owner now has closure lets hope others are as lucky and get to know their dogs are safe ......

njd I agree totally as IF he has seen a vet how come (not shocked at this at all mind) the vets didn't scan him and WHY in 2016 when the law changed didn't they chip him?

Saying that we have shared and tweeted this boy so often in the last 4 years... Postered for him and looked out for him so I very glad he IS found :)

He has proved 2 things...

When scanned they get found

and best of all.... HE is the very first long term missing EVER found in Cornwall

Jack from my heart be safe and happy little boy.... I looked for you so often sine you were taken I just so glad your alive and well.. I am so glad you have proved the Cornish long term ones CAN BE FOUND at last... I been praying one could since up was stolen and we found out none had been xxxxx
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
njd, I don't know the circumstances yet. Sadly a lot of people still don't get dog chipped. Not everyone takes their dog be to scanned automatically & wouldn't necessarily go to vets unless dog was ill & then the vets don't always scan a dog when it goes in to them.
njd
Even if the new owners came across him innocently, why have they never had him scanned or chipped? So many Cornish dogs missing, people need to be made aware you can’t just keep a dog that belongs to someone else.
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
It seems Jack was found today at Par Beach, St Austell & taken to local vets to be scanned. It turned out to be Jack. Some people came in to claim him. It seems they have had Jack for about 4 years (possibly came by him innocently). The registered owner on the microchip was contacted (currently away) & was happy for Jack to go back to these people.
I will leave the post pending, as wish to find out a bit more info, when vets open tomorrow.

Hope lovely Jack is soon back home, safe and well xxx
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
Have spoken to Jacks owner & she is aware of a young scruffy looking spaniel that lives off the trail near the school. it does have a tendancy to get out occasionally. She thinks it is that one.
She has recently (Thursday) had a report of a black & white spaniel seen at Portreath harbour. this was seen by a couple of people. I have advised that it may be wise to put perhaps some worn socks in a safe place where they will be undisturbed by humans, where Jack may smell them. (Not sure if he will remember her scent after this length of time, but no harm in it) & then perhaps go early one morning when quiet, & see if he turns up.
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I will go over there early in the morning & have a look around, unless any further info comes to light tonight (i.e a definitive answer to the colour).
Will inform Jacks owner just in case.

Bless you Esther.... His Mum and I have hatched a plan......

Going to meet her on Monday and give her a load of posters then she will grovel to her friends in the area to put one in their windows.....I will possible knock on doors in Northcountry to see if anyone there will too.....Might have to fly post too as not many telegraph poles left without one now.......or even 2 in one section....

I sort of thinking what else can we do to turn up the heat and get him very hot if he is there and we know a dog very like him is there....

Really would like to see that dog..... xx
Esther
Wish I was close enough to help, but really thinking of you all, got everything crossed here in Derbyshire.

ITS HIM i am sure....It so sounds like him...Pleased keep everything crossed...

Hit North Country (where they think they seen him) really hard with posters...We put two on some telegraph poles...one each side lol I think its called turning up the heat ;-)

We so need help on the ground....I 35 mile away and didn't get back till gone 02.30.....

I got about 100 or so fliers so tomorrow will go back an put them through that whole street and just hope someone can actually confirm its Jack.....

I put some more posters up yesterday (Cycle hire place), & camp site at Cambrose & around & some on tram way at back of Cambrose where people walk dogs.

Max I shared him and pushed him as from the very beginning I thought he was stolen. It wont hurt to poster as it can lead to the name of the thief...... We have that bit but can't get them to tell the police the name yet.

He was taken on a Saturday too... We are told Pup was upcountry by Sunday but we don't know its true..... it still doesn't hurt to poster he may not have gone far yet...... Will push him again via Pup's page x
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
Seeks, I have spoken to Jacks owner, there has been no sightings or info.
There are posters up in Portreath (put up by Tiana) & I am going to put more up tomorrow (just got some printed off), will have another look around area.
I have advised the owner to ring the rehoming centres in the area (given a list), as they will often only deal with the dog owner. (she can explain the full circs of it going missing & leave all her contact details).
Unknown
has anyone contacted St.Francis, the R.S.P.C.A. and any other rehoming centres in the area?
Seeks
Jenny I just doing some posters and so hope your right ... but..... Ours was 100% stolen so I always think that others are too now. We will get the posters to his Mum if we can't get over to help but is there anyone locally that can help?

Its a lonely place with a lost dog so sending a hug to his family x
Unknown
Is it possible this dog wasnt stolen and someone just forgot to bolt the doors?Hence how is most probably not far from home bouncing around doing what Spaniels do best and having the time of his life?
Get lots of posters out , hopefully someone will be able to grab him soon.can anyone get a BBQ going on the beach? That may entice him down.
Tiana
Sent posters to local businesses in Bridge asking for them to display for their customers. Potential sighting but need to investigate whether another local dog. Hoping to get more factual sightings soon when posters go up.
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I will get some posters done & get up there Sunday morning, if I can go earlier I will do.
Tiana
Jack is still missing, just spoke to owner (who has no PC/printer so more help needed postering locally please??)
Once removed (from where he was sleeping last Friday night) there is still a possibility that he was released nearby and is still running around Porthreath backing onto fields near old airport.
If anyone local can help with search please concentrate on area coming out from the beach in Porthreath down Penberthy Rd, TR16 past the Primary School towards Bridge. Believe chance he may be in fields to the left on main road, down the pathways.

Please re-share with anyone you can locally to help look out. Thanks.Last edited: 2014-05-22 17:11:24 by Tiana
