Now that Bertie is under the care of Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue, should the details above of the previous shelter who allegedly did not carry out all necesssary treatment, be removed?

the latest update on the hearthounds facebook page, relating to Bertie, posted 17hrs ago (they mainly help homeless people and their dogs normally, I think):
"The good news is were only £100 away from Bertie's target. I could cry I'm so emotional and overwhelmed at how people have rallied around. We will of course need to keep fundraising for him as his after care is going to be quite a lot. A minimum of £40 to see the specialist every 3 days for first month plus medication and repeat ultra sounds. But if we do one last push we might just do it. I thought that figure was impossible but u guys have been amazing. I'm in the middle of the thank u cards, they will be with u next week. You should all be proud, you've given this little boy two of the most precious gifts, that of life and soon that of sight. I can't wait until after the op we will have a huge BBQ and Bertie can finally see his rescuers, and we will have a HH day out at the coast so we can show him and all the other rescue dogs the ocean."

Any up-date on Bertie - how is he - do you now have enough funds for the eye op. Sending lots of kisses to Bertie xxx

Hi everyone, sorry for the late update. I've been so snowed under as always and really down since I found out about Bertie's sight. I just felt sickened firstly because of what he's been through. With no sight at all he had no chance when they through him over bridge, he couldn't have seen the shore and secondly with the tears and cuts all over him and his ears, if they e fought him he's had no chance to defend himself. I just felt sickened with that and how much else we had to raise to give him his sight. He's had such a rubbish life I so want him to see life as it is now, to go to the beach see the ocean and run chasing a ball. Thank u so much to all of u who are donating, were doing so well and still have two weeks to raise the amount needed. It's a scary operation taking upto 6 hours.. They have to paralyse him and it paralyses all his respiratory system too so he is kept alive manually while they operate by a vet nurse pumping his heart. I know the vets who are doing it very well and u trust them. They love Bertie and will only do what's best for him but with the huge risk of secondary glaucoma plus the inflammation and irritation only getting worse we have no choice but to try. His drops are already taking down the redness and swelling so that's good. I set an alarm on my phone to remind me. Also we finished the stables first kennel today. These are the photos and the chicks got a new run. Alex is over tomz to spend the day with max, and ill write more about tomz plans in next hour. Also ruby went off to an amazing foster who will do her the world of good and she's in a very calm quiet home with the most amazing gentle lady who will adore her until her season stops. Please keep sharing Bertie's story, sorry I haven't updated much. You'd think I would get immune to the things I see but I don't and it still gets to me and when it does I have to get my head down and occupy myself. Thank u so much for all ur all doing for Bertie, yr amazing xxx

Last word tonight is from our Bertie, who has now just walked into a plant pot in the garden and is enjoying his bedtime jumbone. I'm soooo nervous for Friday, lets just pray that we can sort this with his eyes. Thank u again to all those who are donating - u are just incredible. Bertie says a huge thank u. Chat more tomz I need to sleep now xx

Hello everyone, it's Bertie here. My mummy told me to tell all my friends on here about how I'm doing. ive been to vet this morning and got my referral to the special vet my mummy said, so i have to go there at 5.30 on Friday. Me vet said there was definitely a serious problem with my eyes but it could be many things so i have to see the special ver. it does bother me sometimes with my eyes, mummy said I looked like a right wally when i walked straight into the glass at the vets. duh! i just cant see in front of me. I'm so so happy Even my dad says im a pleasure to watch. I have a routine Like mums other doggies. I get up then go in garden for a stretch Abd a run then breakfast time - yippee. i love my breakfast time because its moist balls with half a tray of nature diet, mixed in with chicken, cocktail sausages, hot dogs Abd ham hock. Yum yum. Then if i sit patiently, mum gives me a dental stick to chew while i have a little snooze on sofa. Then its my walkie time. i have such fun with dad chasing the lead and running in fields. Plus when i come home from my walk if i sit like a good boy i gets gravy bones and smackos. Then i go with mum to the stables. i love the car and sit up front with mum. she clicks my seatbelt on for me. I have to do some work at stables learning how to make friends. i go for a few hours so dad can spend some time with my new brothers and sisters. then i have Lots of playtime at stables before home of tea which is my favourite cos I get lots of chicken and ham plus left overs. I have a little cuddle on sofa then go up to my new bed and mummy gives me a jumbones to chew throughout the night. It is almost as big as my head but i love to chew it while i wait dor mum and dad to come tp bed. Im mesnt to sleep in my bed on floor but i squeeze in between mum and dad and they laugh at me. I wanted to come on and say thank you to all of you my friends, for helping my mum to fix me up and give me a family. I know you all have lots of things you need to spend your pennies on and am very grateful that u have been sending me pennies for my eyes. Thank you everybody and love u all lots. Bertie xxxx

Hi all. Well talk about snowed under. I'm burried under an immense work load and getting drowned with it all lol. Today I am on with the kennel conversion in the garage. I used to have my garage done out as a room with laminate flooring, sofas and heating, radio and even a tv. It's there for dogs who need to come into us but aren't sociable with other dogs, but too delicate to put in kennels. Something like Bertie or maisey for example. It's great if they get on with other dogs because they can run with the pack at the stables and lounge on sofas and watch tv with dave. When they don't they need to be seperate but kennels can be quite lonely. This way if we get anything that's been thru a major ordeal it can come to mine where it can stay in home from home and be checked on all time. I want all the kennels to eventually look like the garage one but this takes a lot of time and money and will have to get done when my livery business picks up. Where possible ill take abuse dogs into the house but I can only do one at once and I imagine Bertie is going to be with me for a long time yet. I'm also turfing the lawn today in and amongst working so they've a large area to run and play in if they're using the kennels. I hope so start an appeal soon for a little van. Something for about £500. It's getting pretty desperate now with my car, I've put 24000 miles on it in 6 months and I'm only allowed 10000 per year. When it gets to 25000 it has to retire because otherwise I will end up owing lots of money on it. It's also just not suitable for the drop, we can't get everything in it and so were having to do several trips to one person rather than have everything on board when we do the drop. Anything we make from the event on the 1st will go towards a little van for HH. If anyone knows of one for sale please pm me. Anyone wanting to contribute towards the van please visit PayPal hearthounds@outlook.com.
I pray we can raise it as most of my volunteers don't drive, I'm terrified were going to get to 25000 miles and then we can't continue with the drops as we have no vehicle.

Bertie boy is doing fab. He slept with us last night and has just settled. He cracks me up because he's so so so happy. He's always smiling, always kissing, playing or snoozing. Tomz eve we will see what were up against with his eyes. He does fine during day but on a night he really struggles and gets scared all time as things make him jump and he walks into things. I thought a paddling pool might be a good way to start to get him over his fear of water. If we make a game out of it it might help. Maisey is doing well in foster and I've just been to get the cats some play stations to build them a play room and their own den at the stables. We've a new stray coming this week I think. I'm back on the drop tomz and then Birmingham tomz morn to collect supplies. Going to crack on now.

Huge thanks to all who are donating for Bertie. It's slowed down a lot now with the donations for him but were nearly 3/4 of way there and hopefully Sam is going to do us an auction for him. We've had some food donations in which will be a big help towards the drop. That fund is looking a bit grim at the moment so we need to do a big push and get some packs sponsored. Andys deposit fund is also 3/4 of way there now. A bit more then we can move him and Lucy off the streets. It's a lot of hard work at the moment, I'm heading out on the start of the drop tonight. It will all be worth it, we will keep plodding on and hopefully start to make

Hi all, Bertie had a bad experience last night. He had to be left for half an hour and when we came back he had messed himself all over in a panic and was covered in dog muck. He had to have a bath which was so upsetting because he went into a crazy panic with the water. His face was utter fear and he was clambering out of the bath. So it's going to take repetition and lots of hard work to get him over his fear of water now. However after that he had a huge bowl of chicken and has been snoozing in his new bed ever since. We're not sure but we think he might be a little bit deaf too which makes me think there's something behind the blindness. We are amazingly over half way to raising what's needed for his eyes. Huge pat on the back to everyone that's a phenomenal amount in short space of time. Please keep sharing and lets give this beautiful boy his sight so he can live the life he deserves.

Hi all, just comf back from carboot where we raised £150 towards Bertie's eyes. Bertie has really settled over the last 24 hours. He is getting a giddy kipper which is lovely. We slept downstairs with him last night as he loves laying in front of the fire. Boy does he snore! His vision is better during the day, at night he really struggles and bumps into things all the time. I think he has more vision long sighted as he can see us from few feet but if u put yr hand in front of his face he can't see it. Especially when is dark. We will know more what up against on weds after the appointment. A lot of people are asking for the vet account. I paid yesterday's bill and have appointment booked at eye specialist at Calder vets in mirfield on weds. The normal vets said it requires a specialist opstretician vet as could be something causing the cloudiness that presents like cataracts. Once we know what it is we can then get prices. Roughly speaking and speaking to other rescues who have had similar done at cheap rates, were going to be looking at a minimum of £2000. We do have an account at Calder, they are very good and have brought my own dogs back from the brink several times but I'm also aware that we need to make a pound stretch as far as it can so if anyone has had their dogs eyes done and know of a vets who does good deals for rescues please pm me. Thank u to all of u who are donating, I cannot thank u enough for sending your hard earned money, for sharing Bertie's story and for supporting me. I am truly blessed with the most amazing supporters. Bertie boy says thank u to all of u. He's had a mad half hour and is now snoozing on the sofa snoring his head off. He's had cooked chicken for breakfast and is now passing fatal smelling wind in my direction lol. He's just cracked me up, he passed wind, shocked himself with the smell and then got up gave me a dirty look and went to sit at other end of sofa. It's like he's forgotten the last 48 hours. Thank u so much to all of u for helping us to save Bertie and his sight, I love seeing him like this, such a difference already from the little chap we raced to the emergency vets who was suffering from long lasting drowning, only 24 hours ago.

Please keep sharing

Had to show u guys this. Bertie's first day in pets at home. He found a whoopie toy that wudnt let go of so lovely lady gave him it for free and as soon as we picked a bed down he laid in it and we had to carry him to check out in it. This lad has had nothing, not even a bowl to his name, now he's for everything of his own and that was just magic to see. He's sat in his bed with his whoopie in the car now. He made everyone laugh. I could cry I'm so happy watching him happy. Pets at home are going to put in a collection box for his eyes x

Bertie just been for last walk and finally settled. Eyes red raw so going to ask vet for some drops tonight. His vision very poor in dark and he gets spooked and scared really easily. He's settled in lounge so were bringing douvets down to sleep down here. He panicks everytime one of us leaves the room. Bless him he's been thru it this last few days. I just wanted to say a big thx again to all of u who are donating, supporting and sharing his story. I'm so proud to be part of this amazing crowd of people. Please do keep sharing his story. Every share that leads to a donation is a step closer to saving Bertie's sight. I have so much more to tell u, new clients I found today and exciting news from dave but bugger lugs has just got comfy and I'm shattered as didnt sleep for worrying last night so will write more tomz. He's very tired. Breathing still very girggly, and still very very tender. Just hope were not back at vets tonight. Watching him like a hawk. Those poor eyes are so red and he keeps rubbing them with his paws. Have to take him back if gets any worse. So worried about him maybe he will feel better after a little sleep. He's starving hungry as vets couldn't feed him with X-rays and sedation etc. just can't get over what they've done to him. Going to write to papers tonight and hopefully we can catch who did this and appeal to the public to raise the money for his eyes. its a lot of money to raise but hes only 4 and i feel for what hes been thru we should at least try to raise it. i cannot imagine life when u cannot see. Someone must know who's done this. Maybe papers will encourage someone to come forward. It's a busy bridge with bars at either side there must be CCTV. I hope so much we get the evil person and get him thru this x

We have Bertie and are on our way home with him to start his new life. He has to go back for check up tomz and is still very sore but chest clear now. He has appointment next week for his eyes and we will do all we can to raise the money to save his sight. He's very lucky to be alive. I past the bridge today where he was thrown off from and it's a good 30ft. He's not too friendly with other dogs at moment but given that it looks like he's been fought and has limited vision its not surprising and it's fear. Hr will start rehabilitation with the other dogs as soon as he's well enough and will be running with the pack in no time. Thank u so much to all of u who are donating towards his vet bills, u are all Bertie's Heros and I am so grateful for your help towards his bills. I cannot believe the ordeal this little lad has been through, he cowered on the floor when the rain just hit him as Adam carried him to car. He's so loving, despite all that humans have done to him he still has a kiss for anyone who doesn't mind a stinky Staffy tongue lol. I promise u all I will do everything in my power to give him his sight, his health and ensure his safety for a long happy life ahead. I'm going to do a carboot tomz morn to raise money for his vet bills. Ill walk on hot coals, jump out of a plane or bear my backside out of harrods window if it raises money to give him is sight. Thank u to all of u who are supporting and donating, it really means so very very much xxx

I am going to tweet for him regularly and encourage more to donate....I will donate again....let's raise the amount we need to give him sight....we have 2 weeks.....by god he deserves all our support for the vile, cruel act he has endured xx

Bertie's progress is regularly updated on the facebook page "Hearthounds uk".
Here is the latest (rather sad) update. (but he has been making good progress staying in his foster home, and enjoying life otherwise):
"In vets now, but its bad news in that Bertie is completely blind. The cataracts are very advanced and may be caused by something caused pcpv I think he said. We can still operate but it's going to be complicated and a lot more expensive being £3000 for one eye £3900 for both plus ultrasounds, medication and repeat appointments. Luckily tho the success rate is 90 percent and if we do nothing it's likely he will have severe inflammation which will cause him to have his eye out. We will have to just go for one eye but he says we have two weeks to raise the extra money while he given us this medication to take down the inflammation in his eye. Then the ultra sound is booked in. So please please keep sharing his story we need to raise a minimum of an extra £1500 before we can give Bertie his sight back. Everyone loved him at the vet. It's a big op he has drops upto 25 times a day and thru the night for weeks after but ill commit to doing whatever it takes if we can raise the money. Bertie thinks he's won the puppy lottery at the moment, i so feel after the ordeal he's been thru he deserves to see life now it's good, even if it's only through one eye. To donate towards Bertie please visit PayPal - hearthounds@outlook.com.
Gonna sign out for a bit now am bit upset xx really hoped we had done enough x"

Subhuman you mean Clare. Whay type of lowlife would do this? I donated to hearthounds@outlook.com via PayPal. Just mark it for Bertie. They will need funds for vet bills so far, food, bed etc then his eye op when he's seen the specialist. If u are on facebook look on hearthounds page for the video of Bertie. It's like he knows he's found his saviours, they took him to pets at home to choose a bed and he just hopped in with a toy he had picked- really heart warming after his ordeal

My original posts have been edited so I've deleted them. On hearthounds uk Facebook page are the details for paypal donations and bank accounts. I will leave it to admin to update as required. Last edited: 2014-05-24 20:43:04 by Bo

A vet has not yet been established as regards his eye condition. this update taken from the hearthounds page.
"Just to say that £2000 is just an approx estimate if is only cataracts but we won't know until we have seen doggy optician as could be much more complicated it's very rare in such a young dog. We will find out exactly what is and then shop around the vets I trust or have been recommended for prices. But we really won't know what were up against until we see specialist"

Thank you for the update Bo.
We will need to find out the vet details for Bertie, so that if people wish to donate for his care they can do so directly x

What the hell is wrong people! So cruel to such an innocent beautiful dog. I will donate, can we pay direct to the vets concerned or does it have to be through PayPal? X
HelperHelen - Dog SOS Derbyshire
Cruel and evil person , should be named and shamed, already donated via PayPal, at least he will now be loved and have the life he deserves, hope he feels better soonXxx
