when i found a dog i took it to the local vets and they scanned it and said no chip, but the kennels found one.

It's so sad to read about this - I have a dog called Buster and I would hate to think of him not being here with me. If only the police had helped esarly on it could have been a different story. Shame the owner not allowed to visually ID the dog - the animal's reaction alone would be a pretty good indicator.

Do we know what scanner they used as the older chips are not picked up by some of the new scanners as we know by the incidences with many other older dogs.

OK we are told that the police visited with the rspca and scanned for a chip, which was not found. However owner remains convinced this is Buster and we all know chips don't always work. Owner was not allowed to visually ID the dog. We're having a rethink.

Oh no! At least you know he is safe. Without knowing if the current "custodian" knew Buster was somebody's dog - yes, I know most right-minded people would check for a chip in the first place - it's a difficult one. Ironic though if the police won't help - let's hope they do!

Thank goodness Buster is safe - that's the main thing. Now the next important thing is to reunited him with his rightful owners. I wish I could be there to help but I am keeping everything possible crossed that this happens real soon. After all Buster is stolen property - this is a living creature not an ornament!! we are trying to work with the police at the moment, bear with us. attacking them at this stage is unlikely to encourage them to assist us. We know where Buster is and we know he is safe, we just need to get someone to accompany us to get him back.

this is stupid police and dog wardens cant do nothing this dog is stolen property for christ sake just because its a living animal and not someones car dosent mean it dont deserve to be reunited there is a web site someone gave me where you can buy scanners i know they are a little pricey but would this be worth a try if so www.pet-detect.com also do courses in micro chipping in differant areas good luck

How ridiculous whats the point in chipping again? You chip your dog and then if someone decides to take it in you cant make the police get it you back? This is just so wrong. The law NEEDS changing. I of course have chipped both my beloved pets but I just cannot believe that the RSPCA, dog wardens and even police encourage chupping but don't enforce scanning.

Owner has located where her dog is but says dog warden and police say there is nothing she can do unless she takes the dog to a vet to scan it- dogs "owner" will not let her near the dog.

I again saw what looks to be a dog very similar to Buster's description coming out of a house in Luton Road at the Arches end. I was driving past this afternoon and a whole family came out of a white house with steep steps with this dog. It was situated on the left driving from the arches where there's a parade of shops on the right.

My attantion was drawn to a staff very similar to Buster being walked today around 2.30pm in Luton Road near Luton Village not far from the church. The man who looked 40ish was talking to a friend and the dog was trying to sit down with quite bad arthritic back legs. I couldn't stop in the heavy traffic.

hi guys,sorry i havent been around computer down at home so have to wait untill im at work i saw this dog im certain on the day he went missing i know the date because i was taking my son to his school leavers disco at around 5.15pm the dog ran across the road by the station and almost got hit by a car i went back around the 1 way system parked up and went to see if i could find him asked a few people who said they had seen him walked around surrounding roads for about 20 mins but there was no sighn of him anyway i will get postering now asap Tracey

Well done guys - especially Mandie! Can you check with owner if he has arthritis whether he walks with a limp and whether medication is required? If so all vets need to look out for this boy - and if he's being walked then he may give himself away with the manner he walks in.

Hi I've added poster to the vets "The Oaks Vet's" in Lordswood they are just over the road from where I work and they still have Tigger and Belle's posters up in there too. I've asked them to keep them up when they are found I will go over and take them down. I'm also going to do the Vets in Anchor Road (if I remember on the way home). I'll also renew poster at Priestfields Park in Borstal today and add Busters and Belles. I can't beleive how many go missing in Gillingham!

There's a very similar dog walks up Jackson's Fileds Rochester in the morning. Fairly new to the area and owner doesn't socialise with other walkers, is about 30 something and scruffy. Think he must live near Rochester High Street, Gundulph Road area
