So pleased to see that Frank has settled so well. I have seen a lovely photo somewhere of him giving James his paw but can't find it again now. If I come across it I will add to the page or maybe James knows the one I mean and can add it himself. I think they are in for a lot of long walks together but maybe staying more local to home from now on.

Hi. Just an update (repeated for DogID = 73604). Thank you for everyone who contributed to Frankie's veterinary costs. We'll be paying the remainder next week.

Frankie is doing well, putting on weight, enjoying walks, getting lots of positive attention, has recovered fully from his neutering operation, and so on. He's bonding quite well with our other dog (black Lab, 13 years old). His infection had cleared before we brought him home more than 2 weeks ago, and his facial wounds are no longer that evident, apart from the site of the (tooth) puncture wound in his cheek area. His right eye, though, remains of some concern to us. The eyeball is sunken within its socket, and rotated out of its normal orientation. We'll be getting further advice from our local vet next week, but at present we are waiting for his facial muscles to continue to heal/bulk out further.

There has been a certain amount of press interest in Frankie's story, although not all of the reporting is entirely accurate. (He wasn't anxiety ridden when we first got him, but my running after him as he ran towards a nearby farmhouse (where there was a bitch in season) did not help ... clearly he had been chased at some stage, earlier in his life. His leg was not noticeably injured in his travels, although early photos at Kingston Veterinary Group Surgery in Sherborne did show blue bandaging of his leg so as to keep a drip in place)... Anyway, Frankie's got a home now. We'll try to recreate for him some of the positive experiences of being in the countryside, without the hazards to him of traffic, risky food sources, disease and the like.

We did wonder if we had done the right thing when we agreed to re-home Frankie at the beginning, after he had run off. Had we taken 'too much' on board? Since getting Frankie back home, he has more than proved to us what a 'great' dog he is. Now, he's part of the family.

Doglost, and the conscientiousness of many individuals, proved instrumental in us getting Frankie back. Thanks again.

So pleased that he survived his ordeal - had us worried there for a while. What an adventure he must have had! Quieter life now lovely boy - almost cannot believe that 2nd photo is the same dog. Frankie (Frank) (71125, 73604) is now back at our home, after having been picked up by us this afternoon from the Kingston Veterinary Group's Sherborne (Dorset) Surgery. He was very well looked after there, by everyone (but particular thanks to Gemma), and continues to make a good recovery from his wounds and subsequent infection. He may retain some partial sight in his right eye. He'll be further assessed by our local vet, next week. Many thanks, again, to everyone who has helped with reuniting us, or who has contributed to his treatment costs. (He is lying down on the carpet next to me, as I write this). No doubt we'll be walking some of those routes he has already travelled, in the next few months.

Hi, all. Apologies again for my delay in posting here, but we were quite late getting back from the South West. And then I dropped my phone, but it is now working again.

Dog Lost 71125, now named 'Frank' or 'Frankie' (but known to others as 'Rex' or 'Sonny'/'Sunny'), is found, and is indeed Dog Found 73604.

Frank has made a remarkable progress in his recovery since my last update. The facial swelling has gone down quite a bit, but is still noticeable, and the wounds he suffered will take a while to heal. Frank's right eye is damaged, but will require further assessment to see whether its functionality is impaired. He is still receiving antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment but is off the intravenous drip (so he no longer wears a blue bandage on his leg). As he is now fit enough for an operation, he is to be microchipped and neutered.

Frank has been following his vet around inside the Surgery for the last couple of days or so. Indeed, we met him outside being taken for a walk by her. He feels more comfortable near people, after the care he has received from Kingston Vets staff, and and has reacted positively to other dogs he has met since he arrived at the Surgery.

We are very happy to be reunited with Frank, and will be taking him home with us on Thursday. Frank travelled from Oxfordshire to Dorset, via Wiltshire and Somerset, with an earlier excursion to West Berkshire. Quite a remarkable dog.

Thanks for everyone asking about this dog (71125) and found dog (73604). Over the past few days I have been in contact with Millie (who first reported seeing found dog 73604 in the Batcombe/Bruton area of Somerset on 14th August), with Poochpal (DogLost's South West Regional Coordinator), with the West Dorset Dog Warden, and with the vet treating '73604' at Kingston Veterinary Group, Sherborne, Dorset, after it was taken there in very poor condition on 19th August. This dog appears to have been attacked by another dog, while already malnourished and thin.

Although I believe that found dog 73604 is our rescue dog, we will confirm this when we see the dog at the veterinary surgery. At the moment, this dog is being treated for severe infection, and facial and eye injury. His condition is, at least, relatively stable now, and slowly improving. His face is still very swollen, which makes identification from photos difficult.

We will contact the vet again early next week, and visit when the dog's recovery has progressed a bit further. Keen as we are to see this dog (who after all does not really know us), we believe this is the best course of action until he is fitter.

In the meantime, thank you for everyone who has contributed to searching for our dog (there are some very dedicated people out there), reported sightings, or has otherwise supported us. We'll post again on this website soon.

That's a shame, I hope whoever it is that it is reunited soon. We are still looking into the possibility of the found, 73604, but till the swelling reduces it is not possible to compare. Hopefully his collar is being taken to the vet today so that may help. Whatever the outcome we wish the injured dog a speedy recovery and support James with whatever decisions are made.

I've just spoken with the woman who saw this cream-coloured retriever (thanks for reporting the sighting, and then for getting in touch!), and she does not believe that this is our dog, based on its appearance. This newly sighted dog is, rather, more likely a flat-coated retriever, or similar, not a Labrador.

The sighting for ID=73604 MAY refer to our dog, according to its lister. She now believes that her sighting of a dog in the BA10 / BA4 area (Bruton / Batcombe area of Somerset) yesterday evening more closely resembles our dog than a different missing dog seen earlier in that area. She also believes that dog ID=66441 (DUKE) is not the dog she saw yesterday.

We investigated. This is a large cream-coloured cat, with no identification tags or chips that I could detect, that was killed recently at the location mentioned by me earlier below. (I'll look to see if there are any reports of a missing cat matching this description from this area).

Had a call from a lady thinking she was ringing about Conker to say that a dog was in her field at the farm between Great Coxwell and Faringdon. She rang me immediately and the time was around 21.40. Informed James. In addition, one of Conker's followers posted on Missing:Conker FB page that she had informed the owner that he had been spotted at Great Coxwell just before the sighting at the farm.

Well, I've just eaten my hat! Dog ran down the lane past our house ca 14.30 today. We've not seen him since, but have alerted our neighbours and put down food and cooked up meat in the garden. Sightings most likely in Stanford-in-the-Vale, Hatford and Faringdon area, perhaps. Dog is still running, so please do not chase him. Thanks.

Thanks, Patti. Yes, they have been in touch with me ... So, this dog is probably headed in the Baulking direction. The dog may be attracted to food, but is wary of humans and will run or at least take action to avoid contact.
We'll visit this area early tomorrow, to see if we can pick up his trail.

Just seen a post on FB (posted at 8.50pm) saying "hi i live on challow station my son just spotted a labrador type dog with black collar by our bins ..soon as we went out towards fields" It was on the Wantage Dog & Cat Watch page.

Please, this dog is NOT called Rex.
I walked around various public bridle ways in the area of the last sighting, this afternoon. Some shade, even a few puddles in the shadier parts. There are some patches of woodland in the area, but I did not have access to those. I talked to a few locals, including the source of today's sightings, but no sightings have been reported to me since this morning's.

Just a second thought, everytime there is a sighting get posters up on the local roads around wherever seen. Drivers often see dogs running across roads, may bring in calls. More posters equals more calls.

Really glad to see regular sightings of this dog now. Have dealt with lots of loose dogs and really think its imperative this dog is not chased by anyone. Best plan is to map all sightings, set up only one regular feeding place, and monitor. If he thinks hes being chased he will move on and then I will be a case of starting all over again. Remember, dogs have an amazing sense of smell and hearing and a dog on the loose is extremely clever. Good luck.

This dog was last seen by local woman Tina and me near Beechdown Farm, Sheepdrove Road, Lambourn, about 8 p.m. or so yesterday 14th July, heading in the direction of Eastbury? Fawley? We drove home via Eastbury but did not see him. He may return to Lambourn, seeing as we know he found food there yesterday.

We (doglost Volunteers) have been plotting sightings and see latest sighting (Farncombe Down SN8) is near Upper lambourn looking at OS map, so where he was seen by dog walker on Sat 12th , & that is at the back of Lodge Down, Ermin St Lambourn RG17 where we think this skip is, at the beginning of the road that leads to lodge Down ( & that was the sighting on Fri 11th) so hopefully he has turned back, lets hope so!
We note there are campsites in the area and one at the back of Valley Equine, so good food hunting places for Rex x

It may be unrelated but the M4 was closed for 6 hours early this morning due to a collison. Maybe worth investigating whether the Land Rover braked suddenly due to a dog in road? The last reported sighting I have been informed of was on Saturday morning (12 July) on/near the gallops at Farncombe Down, between Lambourn and Baydon. (I alerted Membury Services about this dog, this morning, and sent them a poster by e-mail). Thanks everyone for your help. We've not had any sightings of this dog today reported to us.

My husband works at Membury Airfield & he's notified the airfield owner & will keep an eye out when flying or at the airfield. It may be an idea to put posters on both sides of the services, as there's a road that he may follow over to the otherside of the motorway & he may be tempted by the fast food smell if hungry - good luck!

I update this web page as soon as I am able after a sighting is reported to me. I go to the area and talk to people, and then update this site again if there is more news. The local people are aware of the missing dog, and have said that they will contact us if they see the dog again. If I get a real-time sighting I will contact you.

This dog was last seen on Thursday and Friday 10th-11th July in the vicinity of Lodge Down and Farncombe Down, Lambourn, near Baydon, Wiltshire. He is very thin, still wary of people, and has been seen taking rubbish out of a skip in the search for food. We spoke to several people who had seen him, or knew of a sighting, and asked them and others we talked to locally to keep a look out for him. This area is near to Membury Services, within sound of the M4, so we hope he will keep away from that.

I went to Upper Lambourn today, but there have been no further sightings since late afternoon yesterday. I spoke to a number of people there, including those who had updated us with sightings (thanks for those) and/or kept him in their sights. I walked cross country from Upper Lambourn to Wayland's Smithy, and back by a different route. Maybe he has now gone in Baydon direction. Who knows? Please can I ask that sightings be routed by the phone numbers above, in the first instance. Best to consider trapping and tracking as options when this dog restricts his movements to a relatively smaller area. Thanks.

Try taking a bitch on heat to lambourn,maybe drive around with her in car,windows open then park up.If possible leave door open or back of car so he can jump in. You never know it might just work. Make sure to secure your female . DDon't want to loose her.

PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND CATCH THIS DOG. Please report location of sighting as soon as you can to Imoore 07738594067 or owner James 07769700490 who are coordinating the search. Trying to catch him will just make him more nervous and harder to sight. This dog needs a gentle approach of a feeding station to gain confidence and keep him in an area. Plenty of help is great and what is needed, but calm and gentle will win the race.

He is Happy & greatful for Trappers and Trackers to help but he can not yet define where REX is staying put, there is chance that a lady in Woolston has seen him in her garden , if you are that lady please call owner.

IMoore and myself went there last night but unfortunatly did not see him, however we did speak to locals and the word was spreading , we suggest Posters go up here and beyond so people passing through can contact owner quickly , if anyone can help with this and or has contacts with the media that would be a great help. We did speak with owner on the mobile whilst we were all there but missed each other ( we went down a Bridle Path and ended up in a very nice locked Stable Yard LOL) we got the impression the owner was understanable stressed and finding all this very difficult :(

In answer to people who have asked what this dog's name is, we have not named this dog yet. He is a rescue dog, and we do not know what he was called in his previous life. He was given the name 'Rex' when he was in the pound for a week or so, but I doubt that he answers to this. We may call him 'Ray', but that will have to be agreed with the family.

We went to Upper Lambourn yesterday evening and looked around a bit. I'd like to establish rough timeline for the dog in Upper Lambourn. Maddle Road late morning? Road near Park Farm ca early afternoon? Upper Lambourn village mid afternoon? I'm going to this area again today.

Just got back. Went everywhere but no luck. even down a bridletrack and ended up behind the locked gates of a training yard and couldnt get out. Had to find someone to let us out.Came back a different route incase he was heading back toward Faringdon.

It would be great if the feeding station could be set up to lead him to the Powell's yard if that is were he is near. Maybe gradually move it closer to the yard?

He is still in Lambourn, he was running very scared on the Maddle Road in Lambourn this morning. He was scaring the horses but equally is terrified. Rachel Powell (of Brendan Powell Racing) tried to catch him and also entice him with food. He is very thin and very scared, she was unable to catch him. She has put food down :-( I don't know if you can contact me but our postcode is RG17 8QP, Upper lambourn, Berkshire. Dont' want to put my phone number on here

This dog has been seen, mid-day today (9th July) on Ashbury to Upper Lambourn road, nearer Upper Lambourn and heading in that direction. He is now in West Berkshire.
Like previous sightings, he is running away from people.

This dog (definitely him) was in a bean field near Woolstone from about mid-morning to early afternoon. Thanks everyone for sighting reports, and for on-the-ground help. We returned this evening, and walked around the general area, but did not see him. We saw a fox, though.

Great your getting sightings James, Nicola Conkers (60337 SN6 ) owner I see went out also & saw him !
Feeding station is being set up as he must be kepted in the area in order to be trapped , he is running scared so i suspect will not come to anyone.
He must not be chased it will make matters worse!
Try Ray Dedicote the trapper or you can borrow a trap but it MUST BE MONITERED

Taken a call from Wicklesham farm around 11am to say that this dog is running around the fields at Wicklesham. I have contacted owner and put in contact with Wicklesham Farm. They are out searching for dog now. let's hope they manage to catch this poor boy this time.

He has been spotted today (ca 11.30-12.30, mid-day) by at least 3 different people near where A417 joins A420, and road/track opposite Charney Kennels, and at Bowling Green Farm. He may have been clipped by a lorry, but last reporet was of him running fast, back onto A417. I just checked but could not see him in any of these places.

I have spoken to the owners and offered to hand out fliers whilst I am out and about looking for Conker. I will be collecting some this afternoon hopefully. I was out looking for Conker yesterday in Hinton Waldrist and asked a farmer whether he had seen a stray dog. He said he had heard a couple of barks coming from the woods whilst he was checking his cattle. It is not a wood that would have walkers as quite overgrown. We searched for Conker and didn't find anything, but it has occurred to me that could also possibly have been this dog. It is not far at all across the fields from Hatford.

I am so pleased this dog is now on Doglost. I have shared this morning the poster onto Conker's FB page. There appears to be have been quite a lot of sightings so hopeful this poor boy will be found quickly. He must be petrified with being chased and coming from the pound. There is a post on I live in the town of Faringdon about him being sighted on Friday evening in Faringdon.
