Delighted that she is home, but all that heart ache that could have been averted and Jenny and Tiga could have been off helping another family and so on...... Dog Wardens are supposed to be professional, this is just not good enough. However, we must focus on the positive and that is that Yipse was and is SAFE x

I think you are right to pursue this Terry. The unnecessary stress you and your family have suffered was completely preventable. And what a shame the veterinary staff didn't try their own scanner on your pup. It might have worked!

No doubt you'll all enjoy a good sleep tonight, with everyone in their rightful place.

Regarding tags, I buy mine from www.collarsandtags.co.uk. The deeply engraved "paw print" style. They are far superior to your average tag, you can add extra text (such as "chipped"!)they are chunkier, and the link is far stronger. They are a bit more expensive but worth every penny because they last years without the engraving fading. I used to have to replace my tags once yearly for them to remain legible. These special ones are now about three years old and still almost like new.

Any chance of a glimpse of that reunited piccy Admin? :)

Well done to the amazing Jenny and Tiga, Sue and all involved.Last edited: 2014-07-15 23:40:52 by Baydogs

Glad there was at least a happy ending :) Welcome home Yipse
Terry
Hi all, Yipse asleep next to me on the sofa ;-). What an emotional journey it has been! It seems Yipse found her way off the hill after all, and on the Saturday that I reported her lost! She ended up in the garden of one of many rather splendid thatch cottages which line the approach lane to Bredon hill. The kind owners resisted the urge to keep her and in the absence of any obvious identification (dog tags being printed as a matter of urgency) called the local council who I. Turn sent a dog warden to collect her. This individual judged a five month old westy to be so young that he would have to deliver her to a vets rather than kennels. Upon scanning her chip he reported the chip was not registered. The vets is literally 4 mins drive from my house, I basically have been driving past Yipse every night to go looking for her 6 miles away at Bredon hill! Suffice to say the chip is registered to us, the council department had all my details to check my claim and were very helpful up until the point of me requesting a copy of the dog wardens report in order to claim against the chip company for not holding our contact information! I have given them two days to supply the report and then I will raise a formal complaint. It has nothing to do with the money you understand, rather the emotional heart ache of my family which need not have happened.
But in the end we have our little lady home safe and I have learnt a number of key points.
1. doglost, is a fantastic resource full of dedicated genuine and concerned humans my thanks to you all.
2. Jenny & Tigga set off on a three hour one way journey to help us find Yipse following contact made via this site. Despite them not being needed Jenny sat in a service station and assisted my final location efforts.
3. Sue our local Doglost contact has been fantastic with updates and advice.
4. The doglost community support has been a massive help to me and my family.

Our sincere thanks to all of you!
Kindest regards from Yipse and the Smith family xx

Terry will tell the full story when he has had a bundle around in the garden with Yipse - watch this space I am totally flabagasted!
Before Terry tells the story - look at the photo above and bear it in mind as to how old you think Yipse is! Last edited: 2014-07-15 17:09:17 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

Fergal's servant- yes, it certainly seems to pay to be inefficient! The really scary thing about this whole scenario is that if the found dog isn't properly scanned or the DW isn't aware a matching dog has come in, what happens next?

Does it go to the nearest rescue kennels? Do they scan again there? If those local kennels are full to capacity, does the dog get moved to a centre in another part of the country? And if proper records aren't kept or the DW can't recognise a westie puppy (for instance) then how are the owners meant to trace/find it?

Why does Terry have to wait until after six for collection? Isn't there anyone at the pound with the dogs until then?

This really is disgraceful. I personally think a complaint to the council is in order anyway, out of hours service or not.

But no doubt you are elated that your girl is safe Terry, despite all the frustrations. Bet you can't wait to get her home :)

Terry, did the Warden never tell you they had picked up one of the same breed and sex, when you first enquired? It would have been 'out of hours' and I don't know what the arrangement is in your area but as Jenny says it's Tuesday today. If there is an out of hours service, then you really need to follow this up, preferably with the Environment Dept of your Council who by law have to run the service, and make an official complaint to them. Lack of efficiency and communication, Baydogs, seems to be quite lucrative. Welcome home Yipse X

Despite having paid £130 - Terry has to wait until 18.00 hrs before he can collect Yipse and has taken the afternoon off work. Yipse not long now your daddy is waiting outside for you.Last edited: 2014-07-15 16:40:24 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

So good to know that Yipse is safe and will be back home later today. Such a tremendous pity that a lack of efficiency and communication caused all those days and nights of unnecessary worry.

I have "Chipped and Spayed" engraved into my dog tags in the hopes that, should they ever get lost, maybe the person holding the scanner will keep scanning until they get a response.

Agree with Jenny that new scanners are clearly needed. If they don't work, what is the point of having pets microchipped? The whole system fails!

Will be giving a cheer when this thread goes blue :)

Maybe the Dog Warden should use the £130 to buy 3 new Halo scanners that are sure to work next time. I feel sorry for Terry who has had to suffer for the last 4 days fully believing he wouldn't find Yipse alive and all the time she was with the Dog Warden. Today is Tuesday not even Monday! Terry had also been contacting Dog Warden to see if they had had Yipse handed in.
Yet again we have gone to track a dog that is in Dog Warden care. I have met some really fantastic dog wardens but sometimes I despair. I will be so pleased when I get the call to say that Yipse is in Terry's arms and she goes over to blue.

Great news!

Ive been sitting here with baited breath waiting for the outcome. Fantastic news. Please update when you have her back Terry and she can go into the blue reunited section !Though its a shame you had to pay that !! That cant be right . Its happened so may times, when Jenny and Tiga get on the journey to track, they get a call to say the dog is safe !. Thanks Jenny XXXLast edited: 2014-07-15 13:24:25 by Mollychops
Terry
Thanks all. She was found the day she went missing, running around in someone's garden about a mile from where I have been searching. The dog warden says the chip did not have our details I have asked for a copy of the scan report to validate this as we have proof that the chip is fine and registered to us! We have endured four days of frantic worry! I had to pay £130.00 to get her location detail from the dog warden! But still she is safe and will be back with us this afternoon x special thanks to Jenny for today's guidance x
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
If anyone is out searching for Yipse please stand down! I was on my way to track Yipse with Tiga when I received a call from Terry and hopefully Yipse is safe but we won't know until this evening. All will be revealed as soon as. I was confident enough to turn around and head back home.
