Glad Jake is back home again.Maybe he can lift the latch on the gate or just jump the fence to get out? Only when you aren't looking! Or maybe a child is helping him escape? Or has he dug a tunnel or made a small hole somewhere and is squeezing out under or through it it-or under the gate by lying flat.I had a dog who did that-unbelievable till I saw just how flat he got...Only one thing is certain-Jake will do it again while he realises you don't know his secret! he's a lovely dog= hope you find him out- dogs like him are so smart... all the best of luck with him.
